Taylor Swift has decided to remove ALL her music from Spotify, prompting the streaming service to create some playlists begging her to come back. That means some of us who aren’t part of the 1 million + people to buy her album may actually need to do the same!
“Music is changing so quickly, and the landscape of the music industry itself is changing so quickly, that everything new, like Spotify, all feels to me a bit like a grand experiment,” Swift told Yahoo!. “And I’m not willing to contribute my life’s work to an experiment that I don’t feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists, and creators of this music.”
The singer said she tried to stay “open-minded” and put her lead single “Shake It Off” on Spotify to “see how it feels.”
“It didn’t feel right to me. I felt like I was saying to my fans, ‘If you create music someday, if you create a painting someday, someone can just walk into a museum, take it off the wall, rip off a corner off it, and it’s theirs now and they don’t have to pay for it.’ I didn’t like the perception that it was putting forth. And so I decided to change the way I was doing things.”

During his first public Q&A session at Facebook HQ, CEO Mark Zuckerberg was asked why he wears the same gray T-shirt every day. His answer? To limit the number of decisions he makes each day, saving himself – so to speak – for the important stuff.
“There’s actually a bunch of psychology theories,” he says, “that claim even making small decisions – what you wear or what you eat for breakfast, or things like that – kind of make you tired and consume your energy. I’m in this really lucky position where I get to wake up every day and help serve more than 1 billion people, and I feel like I’m not doing my job if I spend any of my energy on things [like deciding what to wear],” Zuckerberg said. “Even though it kind of sounds silly that that’s my reason for wearing a gray t-shirt every day, it also is true.”
I get it. It seems vaguely Asperger-y to me, but I get it. I’ve rationalized to myself that having no hair is one less element to factor in to dressing each day. Whether that makes me a better dresser, or better writer, or better person, is up for debate. I’m not sure that if you take away the one, you compensate the other (like blind people and their other heightened senses). Also – and this is just a snap theory that I really haven’t thought through – but people who wear uniforms are usually assholes, and not the kind of people I would ever want to hang out with. Mao Tse Tung, (author) Tom Wolfe, Slash, and Simon Cowell all come to mind. So…. not for me, thanx. (via The Laughing Squid)

The Instagram Art of Mathu Andersen “is my odd interior world of light and shadow, gods and monsters,” Mathu tells LAist of his upcoming show at the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery. “A place where villains are sympathetic and the heroes are idiots.”
Andersen has many stunning images to choose from, and when it came to selecting which would be featured in his show, he admits it was “a bit of a trial.”
“Initially, I was rather cavalier about the whole process,” he told LAist. “However, when it came to the crunch, it was not easy to be objective about my own image. After a couple of days of unbecoming petulant behavior, I settled for a mix of images that were popular and images that were personal and particular to me. I did wonder how the images would work outside of the context of Instagram. Hopefully, I have chosen well.”
The gallery event is hosted by RuPaul and Svedka Vodka, who will be providing specialty cocktails. There will also be beer from ABK Beer, Zevia soda, and Sprinkles Cupcakes.

As a former graphic designer, the Pantone Color Matching System –or as we always called it, PMS– was part of my daily life for years. But it was always an insider-y sort of industry thing. But in the last 10-15 years, Pantone has taken branding to new levels to produce paint, products and now a hotel experience in Brussels. The Pantone Hotel, designed by architect Olivier Hannaert and outfitted by interior designer Michel Penneman, has 57 rooms that uses seven different colors, one for each floor. Of course, to make color pop, you need a lot of white. Personally, I think they wimped out a little. I could see each room done in 20 different reds or greens, but nevertheless, this is a designers wet, PMS dream. Color me ________.

Wow Air, the three-year old discount air carrier, is going across the Atlantic now and it’s going to be cheaper than anyone else, it seems. Wow, based in Iceland, announced last week that it will begin flying passengers non-stop from both Boston and Baltimore to Reykjavik, Iceland for $99 each way. Beginning in March 2015, the airline will also offer one-stop flights from the two U.S. cities (not NY or LA) to London and Copenhagen, starting at $228 for a round trip. Hey, how about hiring RuPaul to be your spokesman/brand ambassador and charter a VIP flight with Drag Race gals as stewardesses! Or maybe a DR stewardess challenge in the air…? the airplane already has runway aisles and lands on one… this could be good. But we have to talk about that purple…
