A shadowy figure in a billowing black cloak appeared at the San Jose del El Rosario Cemetery in Albuquerque last month, causing local citizens to lose their damn minds. Cars along the highway stopped, crowds gathered, pictures were taken, old women fell to their knees and prayed to the Santa Madre for help… Then – JUST LIKE THAT – he was gone. Into the mists of time. Possibly back to his DEATHLY REALM.

He then showed up at the cemetery again this past weekend and agreed to be interviewed by the local news station. You can watch the interview in the bottom video.

He says his name is the “Light Wanderer” and that he comes to the cemetery to pray.“There is a place where sleepers sleep and dreamers dream and patiently await,” he told the station, adding that people shouldn’t fear him.“There’s nothing to be afraid of except those who seek to cause harm, pain, destruction,” he said.

Supermodel/trans icon Andreja Pejic is looking to fund her autobiographical documentary Andrej(a), tracing her journey from “from the Serbian refugee camps of her childhood to the glamorous life of international fame and fashion she now leads.” She needs $200,000 to get it up and running. So far, she’s raised 20,000 with 30 days to go. More information after the jump.

Andrej(a) is a feature-length documentary tracing androgynous trans supermodel Andreja Pejic’s journey from the Serbian refugee camps of her childhood to the glamorous life of international fame and fashion she now leads. Her rise to popularity past is remarkable: her ability to successfully navigate two such disparate worlds while silently struggling with gender dysphoria is even more so. In the summer of 2014, Andreja came out as a trans woman, and her life will never be the same. She’s crossed into unprecedented territory, and as she learns to navigate her post-op life and career, we’ll be along for the ride.

Through Andreja’s life story, Andrej(a) will explore gender politics in-depth around the globe, and the beauty industry and its attitude towards diversity, will be a focal point. From a refugee camp in the Balkans to the world’s biggest runways, from boyhood to androgyny to womanhood, from hiding to the highest level of self-acceptance this documentary captures an individual whose biggest dream is to live an authentic, happy and normal life. To be accepted and respected as the person she has always known herself to be. It is a public struggle by a brave person for the most basic of human needs.

We have been shooting for the past two years and have captured some of the biggest milestones in Andreja’s life, including her last photo shoots as an androgynous boy, the experience around the surgery that made her feel complete, her coming out to the world as a “transgender woman,” and emotional encounters with her mother. Our goal now is to capture “life after transition.”

How will Andreja’s personal decisions affect her career and public image?
How will the industry react to her newly disclosed truth?
Will her personal relationships be compromised by this revelation?

Questions like these for the most part remain unanswered, and to have a shot at answering them, it is crucial that we continue filming for another six months. To finish this project we need your help! We have turned down offers from large global networks to maintain creative control and taken the road of independent filmmaking. We felt that this was a story of immense social importance that needed to be approached in an educated, objective and truthful way, without layers of approval or requests for product placement. We wish to grow what started out as a “love project” between Eric and Andreja to a film with the potential to offer courage to millions that are not living their true identities. When it came time for Melissa to deliver the eulogy at her mother’s star-studded funeral on Sunday, she managed to find just the right words in a funny note she had written to her mother, which will be included in her upcoming book A Letter to My Mom, which will come out next April. Here’s the text of the note in full;

“Mom,
I received the note that you slipped under my bedroom door last night. I was very excited to read it, thinking that it would contain amazing, loving advice that you wanted to share with me. Imagine my surprise when I opened it and saw that it began with the salutation, ‘Dear Landlord.’ I have reviewed your complaints and address them below:

1. While I appreciate your desire to ‘upgrade’ your accommodations to a larger space, I cannot, in good conscience, move [my 13-year-old son] Cooper into the laundry room. I do agree that it will teach him a life lesson about fluffing and folding, but since I don’t foresee him having a future in dry cleaning, I must say no.
Also, I know you are a true creative genius (and I am in awe of the depth of your instincts), but breaking down a wall without my permission is not an appropriate way to express that creativity. It is not only a boundary violation but a building-code violation as well. Additionally, the repairman can’t get here until next week, so your expansion plan will have to be put on hold.

2. Re: Your fellow ‘tenant’ (your word), Cooper. While I trust you with him, it is not OK for you to undermine my rules. It is not OK that you let him have chips and ice cream for dinner. It is not OK that you let him skip school to go to the movies. And it is really not OK that the movie was Last Tango in Paris. As for your taking his friends to a “gentlemen’s club,” I accepted your rationale that it was an educational experience for the boys — and you are right, he is the most popular kid in school right now — but I’d prefer he not learn biology from those ‘gentlemen’ and their ladies, Bambi, Trixie and Kitten. And just because I yelled at you, I do not appreciate your claim that I have created a hostile living environment.

3. While I’m glad to see you’re socializing, you must refill the hot tub after your parties. In fact, you need to tone down the parties altogether. Imagine my surprise when I saw the photos you posted on Facebook of your friends frolicking topless in the hot tub.

I think it’s great that you’re entertaining more often, but I can’t keep fielding complaints from the neighbors about your noisy party games like Ring Around the Walker or naked Duck, Duck Caregiver.

I’m more than happy to have you use the house for social gatherings, but you cannot rent it out, advertise as ‘party central’ or hand out T-shirts that say ‘F*ck Jimmy Buffett.’

In closing, I hope I have satisfactorily answered your complaints and queries. I love having you live with me, and I am grateful for every minute Cooper and I have with you. You are an inspiration. You are also 30 days late with the rent.

As a result of a series of court cases, by the mid-1960s the U.S. post office could no longer interdict books that contained homosexuality. Gay writers were eager to take advantage of this new freedom, but the only houses poised to capitalize on the outpouring of manuscripts were “adult” paperback publishers who marketed their products with salacious covers. Gay critics, unlike their lesbian counterparts, have for the most part declined to take these works seriously, even though they cover an enormous range of genres: adventures, blue-collar and gray-flannel novels, coming-out stories, detective fiction, gothic novels, historical romances, military stories, political novels, prison fiction, romances, satires, sports stories, and spy thrillers—with far more short story collections than is generally realized. Twelve scholars have now banded together to begin a recovery of this largely forgotten explosion of gay writing that occurred in the 1960s.

Descriptions of these pulps have often been inadequate and misinforming, the result of misleading covers, unrepresentative sampling of texts, and a political blindness that refuses to grant worth to pre-Stonewall writing. This volume charts the broader implications of this state of affairs before examining some of the more significant pulp writers from the period. It brings together a diverse range of scholars, methodologies, and reading strategies. The evidence that these essays amass clearly demonstrates the significance of gay pulps for gay literary history, queer cultural studies, and book history.

Because it’s never too early to start planning your Halloween outfit, I’ve come up with a list of nine costumes RIPPED FROM TODAY’S HEADLINES. All totally tasteless, of course, but we’re celebrating in the spirit of Joan Rivers this year, who never met a tragedy she couldn’t make fun of. Check them out after the jump.

1. Isis. From the old Shazam/Isis Hour? BECAUSE OF THE TERROR GROUP? Oh ha ha ha ha. Of course, only old people will get it, but I’m always looking for an excuse to bust out my forehead jewels.

2. An Ebola health worker. Super easy to do. Rubber gloves, rubber apron, goggles….The more advanced costume idea is to be an actual Ebola victim, but that takes mad makeup skills to get the boils just right. Trust me.

3. Mrs Doubtfire, of course. Perfect for first-time-in-drags who want to pay a little homage.

4. Who’s had the worst year EVER? Malaysian Airline stewardesses, of course. Show them you care with a tasteful Halloween tribute. A floral patterned dress… maybe a “missing” sign over your head… or a wildly spinning compass….

5. Carry a stuffed snake and be Nicki Minaj’s dancer who got bit at the VMA rehearsals. Hmmmm. That was really funny in my head, but it’s doubtful anybody will remember by next month.

6. An ice bucket? Like: from the ALS challenge? I haven’t really thought this one through yet.

7. Can we talk? Joan, Joan, Joan. Pick any period: ’60s housewife Joan, ’80s ballgown-and-big-hair Joan, or the Muppet-faced octogenarian from the Fashion Police. (God, I miss her!)

8. Of course you could always be the MOST TASTELESS QUEEN OF ALL, Bianca Del Rio. All it takes is 40 pairs of lashes and some industrial cement to glue them on.

9. And the easiest outfit of all? A name tag with “Adele Dazeem” on it.

Be on the lookout at American Apparel starting September 29th because RuPaul’s Drag Race superstars Alaska, Willam Belli, and Courtney Act will appear on a line of ‘80s-inspired concert T-shirts! ONLY 500 of each totally sick t-shirts are being produced. These glam-rock tees were inspired by AA’s partnership with artist Petra Collins for the “Support Artists, Support Ethical Manufacturing” campaign. The collection is meant to celebrate each drag queen’s amazing talents!

The partnership with the three former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants came about when Jonny Szymanski, a.k.a. Johnny Makeup, worked with Courtney and Willam on the online makeover series, Transfashionable. “It was only natural to get them involved with American Apparel,” Szymanski tells Out. And being self-proclaimed “huge fans” of Alaska, they added her to the campaign. “You know what they say, three’s a charm!”The collection is meant to celebrate each drag queen’s talents and allure. Back in 1995, St. Martin’s Press published an exhaustive, unofficial A-to-Z on the life and career of Madonna called Encyclopedia Madonnica. It was written by Boy Culture’s Matthew Rettenmund and featured a massive archive of “Madonnabelia,” documenting the incredible phenomenon of the girl from Bay City who in her first 13 years on the pop scene had become one of the greatest music icons (and one of the most controversial public figures) of all time.

That was 20 years ago, though, and since then A LOT has happened. Now, Matthew has started a Kickstarter to make a definitive update of the ultimate, unauthorized Madonna fan book a reality! Help make it happen! He’s needs to raise $22,500. So far, he’s gotten $1,625 with 29 days to go!

The original Encyclopedia Madonnica was a paperback of about 200 black-and-white pages, with a color insert.

In keeping with Kickstarter’s motto of underpromising and overdelivering, I can promise that the update will be at least 200 pages, black-and-white, heavily illustrated and will contain some amazing, never-before-published photos of Madonna.

Depending on how much money I raise, my personal goal is to make the book quite a bit longer, in full color and to create a 500-copy initial run for collectors with a unique cover and some special content, as well as at least another 500 copies beyond that. Money permitting, I would like to offer the book not only to my generous Kickstarter donors (you get a physical copy of the book starting at the $45 donation level), but would also like to make it available via traditional outlets, like Amazon.

With your generous donations, I plan to create a sequel that will not only live up to the high expectations created by the first book, but will surpass it in scope, humor, imagery and design.

There’s a memorial this Monday evening for LA drag legend Killer aka Ryan Rorie, who passed away suddenly last week of suspected organ failure. He was 38. Killer was well-known performer at Trannyshack, Bears in Space, and Dragula (where he won the Miss Dragula contest in July). The memorial will be held at the Abbey with tribute performances by Alaska Thunderfuck, Cupcake Canne, Cake Moss, Glen Alen and more. All money made through out the night will be donated to help Killer’s family pay for funeral arrangements.

Killer was a close personal friend of RuPaul’s Drag Race supervising producer Michele Mills who had this to say: “I came to him as a fan, but we really clicked right away. He was so funny, so special, and we loved each other so much. I’m going to miss him every day.”

There are, of course, MANY returning cast members this season on American Horror Story, but only one will revive her role from another season. PEPPER! Yay! The fan favorite from “Asylum” will be featured as one of the freaks in the freak show.

Explains Entertainment Weekly:

The events of Freak Show take place approximately 12 years before the start of American Horror Story‘s mental institution installment. It would not be uncommon for Jessica Lange’s Elsa Mars character to travel around to mental hospitals and offer to take on the responsibilities of the patients for profit. Elsa Mars’ intention has a more matronly tone to it as Murphy explains,

‘What Elsa has done for 20 years is she goes around to hospitals and jails and rescues these ‘freak’ circus performers who are going to be shipped away to asylums and she signs the waivers and she becomes their guardians.’

We may not know the fate of anyone else in the series thus far, but fans can take comfort knowing that Pepper will make it out alive. (That is until she is accused of a violent crime and sent away to Briarcliff where she lives until her death in 1966.)

This is the first time in four years of American Horror Story where a character from a previous season has popped up in another, and Murphy says he and the producers did not make the decision lightly. Admits Murphy, “We thought about it long and hard and we decided that it was interesting to do.”
