Coming out can be an excruciating experience that can involve losing friends family or even your self-esteem. Instagram user thetravelinbum seeks to help those who are struggling with this process by having his followers “moon the world” as they come to accept theirselves.

The 24-year-old who conceived the popular Instagram account aimed to spin the typically stressful process of coming out into one that was therapeutic and inspiring — one that celebrated the exposure… right down to the crack. The Travelin’ Bum himself (who wishes to remain anonymous) tells Elite Daily, The nudity is something that makes light of what may be a difficult situation. The concept of nudity behind The Travelin’ Bum was to allow people to ‘free’ themselves from their secrets they have been holding in. [It allows] them to bare it all and be their true self, finally. #ThrowbackThursday: “Sparks” by Hilary Duff is One of the Best Songs You’ve Never Heard

“Sparks” by Hilary Duff is only a couple of years old, but I don’t think it ever got it’s due for some reason. So I’m posting it as my #ThrowbackThursday.

One of the writers and producers of the song is Christian “Bloodshy” Karlsson who is one half of Miike Snow (when performing) and Bloodshy & Avant (when producing). The duo have written songs for tons of people, but they’re responsible for Britney‘s “Toxic” and most of her album Blackout, so they’re legends IMHO. Hilary first released a version of the song’s video which is basically like a big commercial for Tinder, SO she released the “Fan Demanded Version.” It’s so good! Watch both!

Lisa Kudrow Recalls Sexist ‘Friends’ Guest Stars’ Comment On ‘Watch What Happens’

If Romy White had heard what a guest star on Friends said about Lisa Kudrow at the time, she’d sucker punch them in the face! While appearing on Watch What Happens LIVE, a fan phoned in to ask Kudrow what was the worst behavior a guest star portrayed when they were on the show. She describes a comment that one individual said to her and it will have you shook at how sexist it was, hunties.

Check it out:

“The worst behavior, off the top of my head?” she asked, after a fan called in to ask Kudrow what the worst behavior she’d seen from a guest star had been. “I rehearsed without makeup most of the week, and then on show night, I’m in hair and makeup, and I was told, ‘Oh wow, now you’re f—able.’ That’s bad behavior, I’d say.”

O.M.GAG?!

Davey Wavey Interviews 95-Year-Old Man On Coming Out and We’re LIVING

The famous Queer Youtuber Davey Wavey recently sat down with Roman, a 95 year-old-man that shares his story of coming out gay at such a late age. Roman recalls knowing he was homosexual from a young age and the pressures of remaining in the closet for nine decades.

Wavey met Roman through his grandson Brandon Gross, who is currently making a story about his grandfather’s story called On My Way Out. The interview is humanistic in nature covering a gambit of topics from Roman’s 67-year marriage,  acknowledgement of his homosexuality from a young age and his want to connect with a part of himself that was kept hidden for so long.

Via Huffington Post:

“I think there’s a lot to take from this video,” Wavey told The Huffington Post. “There’s a sense of history in understanding how far we’ve come, and the struggles that this man must have experienced. There’s gratitude for the LGBT people who marched and rallied and bleed and sweat so that today’s world is different ― and that fewer people feel compelled to live in the shadows or closets.  But there’s also raw humanity. Whether you are queer or not, listening to Roman stirs something in all of us. And at a time when the world often feels divisive and divided, it’s good to be reminded of our common humanity.”

As for Roman, now that he’s out and proud, he told Wavey that he is certainly open to finding a boyfriend. When asked what kind of guy he’d be into, Roman said, “I don’t care! I don’t look at their face ― I look at their heart… I want to go to sleep [and] have somebody close to me. Not for any other reason but to be sure that someone cares.”

#BornThisDay: Poet, James Merrill

merrill 2

March 3, 1926James Merrill:

He was a beautiful man who wrote beautiful, accessible poetry. His work was autobiographical in source and theme, but never actually confessional.

Merrill was the only child of Charles E. Merrill, one of the founders of financial services giant Merrill Lynch. His extremely wealthy family had estates in Southampton and Palm Beach, plus a penthouse at the Carlyle Hotel in Manhattan. Poor little James never lived in one place for very long.

A public man and a giant figure in the world of finance, Charles Merrill worried about having a sissy son. When he discovered his son’s first lover, the Greek poet Kimon Friar, he hired a hooker to convert James to heterosexuality. Yet oddly, he was quite accepting and proud of his son’s poetry. His father published his son’s first book of stories and poems himself when Merrill was just 16 years old. He was taught German and French by his Prussian nanny. He had the money to go where he wanted, study where he wanted, and to meet the very best people.

Merrill graduated from Amherst College in 1947. His first book, First Poems, was officially published in 1951. In 1953, he met David Jackson, an artist and writer who would be Merrill’s partner for the next 40 years, even if they were anything but monogamous.

Jackson was thought of, as anyone would have been in his place, of being a gold-digger. Truman Capote once asked him:

“Tell me, David, how much do you get a throw?”

The special quality and luminescence of Merrill’s poems was noted from an early age. His verse is formal, but witty, with a depth of real feeling beneath a coy facade. His poetry meant a great deal to a lot of readers.

But early critics wrote that Merrill’s poetry was brittle, neurotic, and unworldly (like that’s a bad thing). Some of that had to do with the era’s pronounced homophobia and even class resentment.

Merrill was a big fan of the opera. He and Jackson would get stoned during intermission at the Met.

Both men had a longtime obsession with Merrill’s homemade Ouija Board, where they communicated with spirits on the other side, including famous dead poets.

Merrill (L) with Jackson

Merrill and Jackson would bring out the Ouija board after dinner along with the brandy. Their two decades of séances were the inspiration for Merrill’s famous epic 560 page poem The Changing Light At Sandover which won the 1983 National Book Critics Award. Merrill took the Ouija Board sessions seriously. They made him feel frightened, but exhilarated. He strongly believed in a spirit world, but he sometimes simply dismissed them as mere entertainment. I understand, having spent some time moving that planchette around on an Ouija board myself. There might be something to it.

Merrill lived in a pre and post-Stonewall world and he felt the new shifting backdrops of a life in the closet, Gay Liberation, and HIV/AIDS, with the slang, choices, and conditions for being a queer changing with the times.

Merrill had an enormous appetite for sexual encounters. He had many lovers. He also had many STDs. He was ultimately taken by complications from HIV. Even though he was fully out of the closet by then, he did not speak publicly about his diagnosis. Merrill:

“In my opinion there cannot be too much denial.”

His poetry never shied away from his life as a queer. Merrill won nearly every major American prize for poetry: two National Book Awards,Library Of Congress’s Bobbitt National Prize, Yale University’s Bollingen Prize, and the Pulitzer Prize.

Merrill and Jackson shared a famous, much written about house in the village of Stonington, Connecticut, and the couple spent part of each year in Athens. Greek themes, locales, and characters occupy a prominent place in Merrill’s poetry. Later, Athens was replaced by Jackson’s own 300 square foot home in Key West, a far cry from the houses he had grown-up in. Merrill’s poem Clearing The Title is about this cottage at 702 Elizabeth Street.

Though Merrill was very wealthy his entire life, he lived a rather modest life and he understood the financial situation of artists of all kinds. He founded the Ingram Merrill Foundation, a permanent endowment created for writers and visual artists.

As Merrill grew older, the polished and taut brilliance of his early poems changed to an informal, relaxed style, even though he had already been established in the 1970s as one of the finest poets of his generation.

Merrill served as a Chancellor of the Academy Of American Poets from 1979 until his passing. He contributed generously to literary causes, the arts, and PBS.

In his memoir A Different Person (1993), Merrill writes a very candid portrait of gay life in the 1950s, and about of his relationships with lovers past and imaginary, including writer Claude Fredericks, art dealer Robert Isaacson, and Jackson. At one point, Jackson and Merrill lived in a fairly long three-way relationship with actor Peter Hooten.

For over 30 years of Merrill, Jackson and friends used that special Ouija board for Merrill’s writing. The sessions brought many ghosts into their lives. But, near the end of his life, Merrill discouraged other people from ever using or playing with the Ouija board.

Merrill put down his pen for good in 1995, taken by complications from HIV, while vacationing in Arizona, where he had gone thinking the hot dry air would be good for his health, just a month before his 69th birthday.

If you want to know more, and you really should, try James Merrill: Life And Art (2015) by Langdon Hammer.

But nothing’s lost. Or else: all is translation

and every bit of us is lost in it

and in that loss a self-effacing tree

Color of context, imperceptibly

Rustling with its angel, turns the waste

To shade and fiber, milk and memory.

Celine Dion has given us many gifts in life: the chest punch, singing ‘Feliz Navidad,’ and the backwards white suit to name a few…but when she stepped out in a timeless powder blue Christian Siriano frock for the LA premiere of the live action Beauty & The Beast. Brace yourselves and breath because the sleek, classic, dress was SO sickening, we here at the World of Wonder Headquarters can barely handle the pure gag of it all.

Check it out:

Looking like the goddamn Headmistress of Beauxbatons, she SLAYED the red carpet.

Darkness Ascends to the “Wizard of Oz” Universe in New Horror Flick

Even though the 1939 version of Wizard of Oz is filled with bright colors and a happy ending, its theme tends to lean on the gloomy side. Now, New Line is in early development on a horror film staged in the world of L. Frank Baum‘s The Wonderful Wizard of OZ universe.

The studio, a division of Warner Bros., has bought an untitled pitch by screenwriter Mike Van Waes. The project isn’t set up with a producer yet.

“The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” was published in 1900 and adapted into a successful musical in 1902. As with the 1939 movie starring Judy Garland, the story follows a girl named Dorothy in Kansas who lives on the prairie with her Aunt Em, Uncle Henry, and dog. A tornado carries Dorothy and Toto to a magical land to battle the Wicked Witch of the West.

(via Variety)

I wonder what dark and twisted worlds will be created out of the already perverse land of Oz!

First Look: Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins in Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns”

Get your spoons full of sugar ready, Disney just released the first image of Emily Blunt as the reimagined Mary Poppins for their upcoming film Mary Poppins Returns!

The photo shows Poppins from behind on a leafy London street, complete with hat, stylish blue and purple coat, and of course the mixed-patterned handbag. All that’s missing appears to Mary’s broomstick alternative, her signature parrot-topped black umbrella.

Although as fans of the super-nanny know, the umbrella could well be stashed away in her bottomless bag which in the original stored a large plant and an ornate lamp among other eclectic items. The role was originated by Julie Andrews.

The latest version also boasts an all-star supporting cast including Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack, a street lamplighter who could well be an updated version of Dick van Dyke’s lovable “chim chimney” sweep from the original, Meryl Streep as Poppins’ cousin Topsy, who wasn’t in the 1964 classic, and Colin Firth as William Weatherall Wilkins. Angela Lansbury will also appear.

The movie is set to reunite the director and producing team behind Disney’s hit musical “Into the Woods,” with Rob Marshall in the director’s chair and Marshall, John DeLuca and Marc Platt all down as producers.

The Mary Poppins sequel hits theaters Dec. 25, 2018. (via Variety)

Ellen DeGeneres Gives ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Shout Out When Describing Her New Game Show

The queen of daytime realness, Ellen, spoke candidly about her new show she is developing “Ellen’s Game of Games” where she described to fans and viewers on what to expect for the busy host and the show’s content. And, how sickening that she gave a special shout out to RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Check it out:

“I’m so excited to be hosting a huge prime-time game show for NBC. We’re pulling out all the stops—gigantic sets, hilarious games. It’s going to be like a combination of American Ninja Warrior, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and a water park. Okay, it’s nothing like that, but you should still watch,” DeGeneres said in a statement.

In quintessential game-show form, “Ellen’s Game of Games” will draw contestants from the audience and give them the opportunity to win some cash by . . . well, basically by being silly. Participants are expected to perform stunts and answer trivia questions, and—we can only assume—dance.

The show is expected to be lighthearted and fun (i.e., precisely what the viewing public could use right now), but—as with everything Ellen—it will likely make a point of being inclusive and engaging. In other words, an Ellen-hosted game show will be a nice reminder of all the quirky goodness that still manages to exist in the world.

“Ellen’s impact as a daytime icon is unprecedented, and we can’t wait to see her bring that amazing spirit to Game of Games,” Paul Telegdy, president of NBC Entertainment’s Alternative and Reality Group, said in a press release. “She is among the very best at engaging with her devoted audience and we are all in for a treat when her antics hit prime time.”

NBC has not yet announced when Ellen’s Game of Games will debut. In the meantime, here’s a taste of what’s to come:
