Fenton Bailey talks with Yahoo! Movies about James St. James and Michael Alig‘s reunion, sending a camera crew to capture Michael as he reintegrates into society, and his advice for Michael.
Fenton talks sending James to NY to see Michael:
“It’s a story that has interested us, and we think it continues to interest other people too,” says Bailey. “Alig’s story has reached a kind of fever pitch recently with his release. There’s something very archetypal about it. So we thought maybe we should send James and see what that would be like.”
On the footage of Michael getting out of prision:
“We’ve decided to capture [this experience],” he adds. “We don’t have any solid plans for the material yet. Whether we recut the original documentary, or do it as an online original series, I’m not sure. But I think it is indeed interesting to see someone regroup after 17 years. It’s really like a time-capsule experience, isn’t it?”
Fenton’s advice for Michael:
“He should not go to clubs, drink, or do drugs, He is a Class A addict, and he needs to stay sober.”

I was shocked and thrilled when I picked up Jacquie Lawrence‘s debut novel Different For Girls.
The first gay novel I ever read was ‘Make Me A Lesbian’.
And it almost did.
It was so hot. The steamy encounters in elevators between professional working women were incredibly hot even for this gay teen. But in the years that have ensued, nothing I’ve read has really come equal to that amazing piece of prose. Until now.
A review of a Jackie Collins‘ novel once said it was “so hot it should be printed on asbestos”. The same goes for Different For Girls. Perfect summer beach reading, make sure you have quick access to the ocean – because in between chapters you will need to take a plunge to stop yourself bursting into flames. And it’s not just packed full of delirious unashamed and unabashed and ever-inventive sex, it also has a plot with fabulous twists and turns and cliffhangers aplenty – especially the end, that will leave you panting for the sequel! Jacquie used to work at World of Wonder, and headed up the development department in the UK where she unleashed on British viewers a string of saucy same-sex docs about the secret lives of lesbians that would make ‘The L Word’ blush.
Now a devoted – but not demure – mother of two, Jacquie has turned to fiction – tho’ I suspect some of the stories between the covers have a non-fictional origin.
“Different For Girls” is a novel all about the intricately entwined lives of lesbians. But that doesn’t really do justice to the plot.
As Jacquie herself explains: ”Different for Girls originated as an idea for a television drama series about a group of women whose lives and loves were different. It was a project that I put on hold, whilst looking after my two pre-school age daughters. When my youngest started nursery, I took the original concept of these six single women, whose love lives were entangled, and thought about how they would be living their lives seven years later. During this seven-year hiatus, changes in family law, fertility treatment and gay marriage has given an even different context to these different girls so I created relationships for them and, in some cases, families.”
