A new six-part web series called Queens of Kings is showcasing some of the star drag queens of the Brooklyn, New York scene…and believe me…these girls go HARD! The first episode features the brilliant Merrie Cherry, creator of the Brooklyn Nightlife Awards, in and out of drag, talking about hooking up with straight trade, her first time seeing her uncle in drag, and getting naked in public.
“I used to have a lot of body issues”, says Merrie. “I definitely would never get naked in front of anyone. If I was having sex with them, I would normally do it in the dark. But now you can ask most people in nightlife, and they will tell you that they have seen Merrie Cherry naked. That’s because since doing drag in New York, I have become more comfortable with myself. One of the most important & pivotal moments in gay history happened on this day, June 25, in 1998. John Lawrence & Tyron Garner were arrested in Lawrence’s Houston home & jailed overnight after officers responding to a false report found the 2 men having sex. Lawrence & garner were convicted of violating Texas’s Homosexual Conduct law, which made it a crime for 2 people of the same sex to have oral or anal sex, even though those sex acts were legal in Texas for people to engage in with persons of a different sex.
Lambda Legal quickly responded & agreed to represent Lawrence & Garner. Battling for years in the Texas courts, LAMDA sought to overturn the criminal convictions, which made the 2 men registrable “sex offenders” & to have Texas’s law declared unconstitutional. When the highest court in Texas eventually refused to even hear the arguments, the US Supreme Court to took the case.
On this day in 2003, in a stunning victory, the highest court in the land found the Homosexual Conduct law unconstitutional & established, for the 1st time ever, that gay citizens share the same fundamental right to private sexual intimacy with another adult that straight people have.
Antiquated sodomy laws often have often been used to justify discrimination against gay people. In striking down those laws, this historic ruling removed a major roadblock in the battle for Gay Rights. Gay people can no longer be considered “criminals” because they love someone of same sex. Even more important, laws that deny gay people liberty or equal protection can no longer find justification on moral grounds alone. This distinction cannot be overstated when arguing with the haters.
The impact of this landmark case is extraordinary. SCOTUS declared all sodomy laws unconstitutional, putting an end to the sodomy laws that remained on the books in 13 states at the time of the ruling, including laws that criminalized only same-sexual conduct & laws that criminalized oral & anal sex for any consenting adult. SCOTUS also reversed Bowers v. Hardwick, its 1986 decision that upheld Georgia’s sodomy law that had been a huge setback to gay people’s fight for equality. The decision’s sweeping language about gay people’s equal rights began a new era of legal respect for LGBT citizens of our country. Until now, Lawrence v. Texas is considered the most significant gay rights breakthrough of our time.
I think I may have to celebrate this historic anniversary with some hot & very legal man sex.

I like to think I was blessed with a certain savviness for discovering things on the Internet that I never knew existed but after finding, I can’t live without, and this Vine account (with an impressive 248.k followers) is one of those things. It belongs to a pair of eighteen-year-old Brazilian twin brothers Gustavo and Tulio (who go by Brothers Rocha on social media) and mostly features homemade videos of them dancing shirtless together. So yes. They are totes adorable, and apparently know a thing or two about synchronized dancing (though I suppose that could be due to the fact that they’re, you know, twins.)

June 26, 1970– Sean Hayes is a talented, award-winning, cutie-pie actor & producer, & he is an out & proud gay man.
Some of you kids are probably too young, but I found true solace, pride & lots of laughs by having gay characters appearing in a primetime sitcom, even if his Will & Grace character, Jack McFarland, generated controversy & a some push back by the LGBT community for being “too gay”. For me, there really is no such thing. It took a while for him to open that closet door, but in 2010, Hayes told The Advocate:
“I am who I am. I was never in, as they say. Never. I feel like I’ve contributed monumentally to the success of the gay movement in America, & if anyone wants to argue that, I’m open to it.”

Hayes won a bunch of statues for awards shelf for his turn as the scene-stealing sidekick on Will & Grace (1998-2006), part of NBC’s Thursday night “Must See TV” powerhouse line-up, including an Emmy & 4 SAG Awards. Will & Grace shared NBC’s Thursday night with Friends & Seinfeld. I used to tape all 3 using a device called a VCR.
Chicago born Hayes was raised by his mother after his father abandoned spit when Hayes was just 5 years old. He claims that humor was a big part of his growing up with his 4 older siblings play pranks, including frieghtning friends with his mother’s prosthetic eye. Always creative, he was drawn to music during high school. He studied voice & acting at Illinois State University, & took gigs as a pianist to make money. He began performing at Chicago’s Second City improv group, along with Tina Fey, Steve Carell & Amy Sedaris.
I first took note of Hayes in the sweet, funny, gay-themed indie film Billy’s Hollywood Screen Kiss (1998). His work as gay photographer Billy Collier brought him the role on Will & Grace. He held his own with seasoned comedic co-stars Debra Messing & Eric McCormack, & had red hot chemistry with Megan Mullally as Karen Walker.
Hayes kept working after Will & Grace said goodbye in 2006. On TV he had guest roles on NBC’s 30 Rock, Parks & Recreation, & IFC’s Portlandia (I don’t watch it, I live it). In 2010, he starred on broadway in the musical Promises, Promises with Kristin Chenoweth, earning a Tony Award nomination. Playing real life people, Hayes was SAG nominated for his excellent work as Jerry Lewis in the TV film Martin & Lewis (2002), & he portrayed Larry Fine in the feature film The Three Stooges (2012), which was a bit of a mixed bag, not Haye’s fault. He had a swell story arc on the much missed Smash in 2013, reuniting with Messing & NBC. Hayes produced & starred in Sean Saves The World which lasted just 15 episodes in 2013, but let’s not discuss it on his birthday. He has better luck as executive producer series Hollywood Game Night, Grimm & Hot In Cleveland.
Always intensely reserved about his private life, Hayes married his adorable, slightly bearish BF, music producer Scott Icenogle last winter. They make an adorable couple. They make funny, sweet videos for YouTube. Happy looks good on Hayes. I think he is adorable.

On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court finally announced its marriage equality ruling in a 5-4 decision: Gay marriage is now a guaranteed civil right in all 50 states. Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote the majority opinion, saying “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family,” he wrote. “In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were.”
Following the announcement, President Obama stated to the nation that the Supreme Court’s ruling “is a victory for gay and lesbian couples who fought so long for their basic civil rights.” He added, “Shifts in hearts and minds are possible.”
Obama also noted that those celebrating today’s victory should be “mindful” that others in the country who oppose the decision hold “sincere and deeply held beliefs.” He urged people to “recognize different viewpoints; revere our deep commitment to religious freedom.”
In a touching moment, the President acknowledged those who endured “bullying and taunts” and who “slowly made an entire country realize that love is love.” (You can watch the speech in President Obama’s tweet below.)
Of course, however, there is still much work to be done in order to extend America’s promise of absolute freedom to each and every American. As the President said, though, “Today, we can say in no uncertain terms that we’ve made our union a little more perfect.”
