Jess opted this time to take the extensions out and go for a long, blunt, chic bob. Jessica Simpson posted a pic on her Instaglam with the saying, “short hair, don’t care”. J Lo’s long time colorist Rita Hazan did the blonding up of Jess’s hair. I am sooo itching to chop mine off, the time is coming real soon. Love this.

Tattooed Irish Dude Surprises His Mom – Watch Now

Watch a tattooed Irish dude give his mom the best surprise of her life in this viral video where he “appears” literally out of the blue (ocean)! Heartwarming AND thrilling, not to mention a guy who’s easy on the eyes…

Stephen ‘Jimmy’ Nolan told his mother he was not going to make it home to Ireland for a family wedding. Little did she know this wasn’t true, and that Jimmy already planned his surprise return.

Jimmy lived and worked in Australia for many years, so he wanted to do something special to surprise his mother. He got his sister Nicola to take their mother to the beach. It was there when Jimmy’s mother watched a video of Jimmy jokingly saying that maybe if he started swimming from Australia, he might make it home in time. As she looked up from the video, she saw something in the distance. She realized after a moment it was her son, appearing out of the ice-cold sea after ‘swimming’ from Australia.

Big News!: The Neil Patrick Harris Variety Hour?

Vulture Variety show Saturday Night Takeaway NPH Neil Patrick Harris NBC Howard Stern

According to Vulture, Neil Patrick Harris has been tapped to host a U.S. version of Saturday Night Takeaway, the long-running U.K. variety show. The show (which will not be called Saturday Night Takeaway or air on Saturdays) is also expected to originate from New York, given the actor’s roots here. Harris says;

“As I watched the show, I couldn’t stop smiling. Now that I’ve seen many seasons, my face hurts. It’s a game changer. Nothing like this has been done before, and it’s unique structure fits right into my random skill set. I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and have some fun!”

Just a few months ago, NPH told Howard Stern that he’d been talking to CBS about such a gig;

“I think if it’s weekly, and people really want to see it, and you trust that there’s a lot of really great shit on there, then you’re gonna get the guests to want to come on there. A weekly thing, you’d have more time to prep for stuff, you could pretape stuff that would be really exciting, you could flesh it out more.”

NBC alternative TV head Paul Telegdy told Vulture that he’s been looking to get a variety series on the network for a long time, and that Harris was always at the top of his list.

“We have a natural affinity for this type of show. It’s in our DNA. There’s a natural progression with this. This is something we felt was undeniably an NBC proposition. We’re not going to rush this. We’ll take our time and make a great show.”

Can’t you just see it? “With Special Guest Star, RuPaul!” (Photo, Instagram; via Vulture)

Shamir Bailey On The Regular Northtown EP Neneh Cherry Cakes Da Killa

Las Vegas just got a lot more fab (Britney and JLo who?)! Androgynous singer/songwriter Shamir Bailey, aka Shamir, recently put out EP Northtown, and now he’s released another pop/disco hit On The Regular. Being that he’s only about 19ish, there’s a lot of youthful feistiness and angst being worked out here, with lyrics like “Don’t try me. I’m not a free sample. Step to me and you will be handled”. That’s a lot of gumption coming from the 120lbs soaking wet Nevadian. But the countertenor has a huge voice, delivering rapid fire verses like NYC rapper Cakes Da Killa, and poptastic groves reminiscent of late 80s Neneh Cherry. Check out the vid below, replete with cowbells and a Fisher Price phone…too cute!

Last night WOW’s very own Omar Hernandez attended opening night of the Hello Kitty Con which celebrates Hello Kitty’s 40th Anniversary! Hello Kitty Con runs through November 2nd at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA in Los Angeles. Click over to check out photos from the event!

Omar says:

Hieeee, omg it was so fun! I was in heaven! It was more kawaii than I could handle. The event was amazing, full of a happy-fun-loving-hello-kitty crowd! Music, drinks, great finger food and cute little treats!  It was everything a gay little boy who has loved Sanrio since he was 6 years old, could dream of! My favorite part was the “Art Corner” where there was so many cute 3D photo opportunities! The staff that were working the event were decked out in Hello Kitty gear and were friendly enough to take a picture  of you and your guest, almost everywhere. If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with Sanrio, so I truly treasure the special time I had at the opening party of Hello Kitty Con 2014!

Nick Jonas at The Satellite

I’ve never been a fan of the Jonas Brothers. James St. James always blogged about them, so I figured we were covered here on the WOW Report for the Jonas Brothers beat. But last night I had the chance to go see the youngest Jonas, Nick, at The Satellite in Silverlake for the first show of his current tour. Read about it after the jump!

The Satellite Silverlake Nick Jonas Jonas Brothers Gnarls Barkley

I decided I’d go because the tickets were free, it was a small venue, and Nick Jonas is fucking hot. The show was supposed to start at 8PM, but everyone was still waiting around for the show to start when we got there around 8:30. Around 9PM, whatever song was playing cut off midway through and Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” started blasting throughout the place. I’m still not 100% sure this was part of the show, but I’m assuming it was. Soon after that, Nick came on stage. He wore jeans, a green plaid shirt, and a sort-of cheesy fedora, but alas, I still would. After a couple of songs from his newest album, Nick did a cover of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy.” I’m sure there are still people that love the song, but I thought he could have picked something a little more relevant. Next must have been a couple of old Jo Bro’s songs, because all of the twenty-something girls in the audience sang along. Nick Jonas may not be my FAVORITE, but I’d totally take him over Justin Timberlake any day. He has a great voice and he’s just so damn cute! If you’re into pop music, you can pre-order Nick’s self-titled album now on iTunes.

Friday Flashback: Gregory the Gay Ghost on Ring My Bell Halloween Edition

Save the Date: Party Monster Shockumentary Screening (with SPECIAL SNEAK PEEK of After Party: the Party Monster Sequel) MONDAY EVENING

It’s going to be quite a night. THIS MONDAY at the Arclight in Hollywood, a rare screening of the shockumentary that started it all: PARTY MONSTER at 7:30PM with a Q&A afterwards (featuring Randy Barbato, Fenton Baily, and ME!). Then, hold on to wigs, it’s a sneak peek of the UPCOMING NEW DOCUMENTARY After Party, in which Michael and I talk (and talk and talk) about everything that happened AFTER the documentary was shot – his arrest, his time in prison, and how he’s acclimating to the 21st century. You don’t want to miss it.

AND BE SURE TO COME DRESSED IN YOUR CLUBKID FINERY: THERE WILL BE A PRIZE FOR THE BIGGEST PARTY MONSTER!

Party Monster, the original documentary directed by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, tells the story of the rise and fall of Michael Alig. A kid from Middle America who aspired to be the next Andy Warhol, Michael quickly rose to become the biggest party promoter in New York City, and King of the so-called Club Kids. Alig created his own reality—a “surreality”—one without rules.  But the charming freedom of this world eventually mutated into something darker, where getting away with murder would prove to be the ultimate thrill. After spiraling into drug addiction, Michael brutally murdered his roommate Angel Melendez and was sent to prison for 17 years. Alig was released from prison this year on May 5th, 2014 and is back in New York, living on parole.

After its release to critical acclaim in 1998, Party Monster won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in News and Documentary Program, and was an official selection for the Sundance Film Festival. The Club Kid documentary Party Monster was later reworked into a cult movie of the same name starring Macaulay Culkin and Seth Green, written, directed and produced by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, and co produced by World of Wonder and Killer Films. The 2003 film was based on the memoir Disco Bloodbath by Club Kid James St. James.
