Featuring a supporting cast of some of Los Angeles’ best up-and-coming comedians and performers, Fagabonds is an unapologetic peek into the contemporary queer scene of Los Angeles. Last night the LGBTQ and entertainment worlds collided in a major way with the series premiere of Ryan Murphy‘s Pose on FX. The show tells the story of LGBTQ community members in the late 1980s as they live their lives trying to fit the mold of the “American Dream” and make it big in the ball room scene of New York City. If you haven’t heard of it, check out the trailer here.

Before it premiered, I was excited for a plethora reasons. The main one being that a show about people of color in the LGBTQ community was airing on a major network… and not on the basis of flashy, stereotypical dramatic tv. The show aims to tell the stories of people that we haven’t seen on such a mainstream platform.

SPOILER ALERT!

My biggest take away of the pilot episode is that I LOVE it! . Blanca is by far the greatest character. Honestly, I wish that every young LGTBQ person could have a Blanca in their life. Blanca isn’t doing what’s she’s doing solely for her own gratification and glory, she is doing it to help others.

The show truly tells real life stories and opens people’s eyes to the struggles, trials, and triumphs of so many LGBTQ people; especially transgender people. Not to mention the face that the cast consist of multiple transgender actors, actresses and soon to be gay icons.

One of the best things about this show is how it speaks on the problems the LGBTQ community still faces today. Pose showcases the history that has so greatly influenced our LGBTQ community and premiering at the beginning of Pride month is perfectly timed. This show makes me proud to be LGBTQ and proud to continue learning even more about the history of the LGBTQ community.

I cannot wait for next week’s episode and all this season has in store. If you haven’t already seen the pilot episode go watch now and tune in for the rest of the season!

As reported last week, the cover for Travis Scott‘s Astroworld album originally featured trans icon Amanda (with laser beams shooting out of her ass!), but later her image was mysteriously removed.

While initially Scott remained silent on the matter, he has since come forward and released a statement via Instagram:

“Thank you David Lachappelle and Amanda Lepore and everyone that came out to make all the covers and the vision come to life!!! ASTROWORLD IS ABOUT LOVE AND EXPRESSION NOT HATE!
This is very important for me to speak up about:

Growing up I’ve been taught to accept everyone, not to cast people away but bring them in your home! I have nothing but respect for the LGBTQ community. I want to use my voice to make it clear that everyone on this planet is as equal and fucking awesome to the next. Me and Lachappelle set out tooo (sic) create images that i grew up watching him create for years that inspire me today. Yo Amanda you did upstage everyone even me and i can’t wait for everyone to see the booklet that me and Dave put together that includes all these images. thank you for being apart (sic) of it. Sorry for the misunderstanding Love you guys and THANK YOU ALL!!!

Lenore recently also wondered on her own Instagram why she wasn’t on the cover, although David LaChapelle explained (through HIS Instagram) that the choice was purely aesthetic,

“Amanda was taken out because she just upstaged everyone.”

Afterwards, Lepore added “A girl can’t help itToo distracting for the eyes Upstaged everyone in the photograph Oh well……….. I love @david_lachapelle and @travisscott Love and kisses ” to her own Instagram post.

Page Six has put on their detective cap and come up with a surprising conspiracy theory. Could it be, they ask, that Kanye West is behind the deletion of Amanda Lepore from the cover of Travis Scott’s latest album?

The scandal was ALMOST already forgotten, after both Scott and photographer David LaChapelle explained that it was simply the fact that Amanda’s fabulousness upstaged everyone and they felt they didn’t want to pull focus from the album’s star. Case closed right?

Not so fast.

YES! Hallelujah! Wigstock, the legendary outdoor drag festival, will be returning to New York for the first time in almost 20 years (2001, to be exact).

Lady Bunny, of course, is spearheading the revival alongside Neil Patrick Harris and husband David Burtka who, according to the New York Times, reached out to her and said they’d like to help get it up and running again. The three of them then brought in other partners, including the Oscar-winning producer Bruce Cohen (American Beauty, Milk), the production company Matador (Banksy Does New York), Gay Men’s Health Crisis and Pride Media, which publishes Out magazine and The Advocate.

Tentatively booked so far?

In response to remarks made by Victoria’s Secret chief marketing officer Ed Razek that the lingerie brand wouldn’t cast transgender models because they don’t sell the “fantasy” of skinny, white cis womanhood the company promotes, queer cultural visionary Love Bailey dreamed up a list of 18 transgender models who should be cast in the next VS show, or better yet on a runway where they are welcome and celebrated.

Those models included: Valentina Sampaio, Nakita Dragun, Yasmine Petty, and of course the ever-iconic Amanda Lepore.

Amanda, though, let it be known that while Victoria’s Secret might not want her, she definitely doesn’t want THEM.
