Recently beleaguered chanteuse Taylor Swift has a new video that many are saying is a blatant frame-for-frame rip-off a 2016 Kenzo fragrance ad directed by Spike Jonze and starring The Leftovers’ Margaret Qualley. As Kenny Wassus from New York magazine points out, the video contains “the same lonely/contemplative look off-camera, the same silly wink faces, the same angry gorilla dance, the same gesturing wildly at man’s head not paying attention to her, the profile tracking shot of militant walk, and the same ballet leaps.” Even the location and the green dress seem similar. Is it a loving homage to a revered artist or the crass rip-off of a desperate wannabe? Check out both videos and decide for yourself.

Are you ready for When the Beat Drops?

WOWlebrity and incredible choreographer Jamal Sims makes his directorial debut in our new documentary, produced alongside Jordan Finnegan, When the Beat Drops. We’ve premiered clips and the trailer (below) but this past weekend in Miami was the world premiere of the film at the Miami International Film Festival.

Following the screening, the room was filled with raucous applause and Jamal & the cast were met with a standing ovation! The film “immerses viewers in the growing culture of bucking—and if you’re unfamiliar with this hyper-athletic, wildly creative dance phenomenon, prepare to be electrified by When the Beat Drops!”

Per the Miami International Film Festival:

“Atlanta has recently become an LGBTQ haven, but when Anthony was growing up there as a heavy-set, gay black kid with a love of dance, the Gate City was a harsh place. Nevertheless, talent and tenacity prevailed, and Anthony spearheaded a buck sensation, launching flash buck performances in clubs. Anthony’s crew, comprised largely of other gay African-American men, grew into a family and, eventually, a national movement incorporating fierce competitions and becoming a force of education and affirmation.

There are bumps on the road—like a small-town Alabama Christmas parade that outraged spectators—but the story Sims so deftly tracks is ultimately one of triumph, artistry and togetherness.”

The UK answer to GI Joe, Action Man, is featured rocking out in his blue underwear to CeCe Peniston‘s 1990’s gay anthem Finally in a new commercial for website MoneySupermarket. He is joined by his pals Action Man Astronaut, Action Man Cricketer, and Action Man Polar Explorer as they throw down at what appears to be an all-gay desert dance party.

The ad premiered over the weekend during Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Take Away on British ITV1. It was directed by Tom Kuntz through MJZ and the brand partnered with licenser Hasbro for the campaign.

My mom was the first one to put me in drag. I was 9 years old. I performed as Britney Spears at my school, at a talent show. Of course, I had know idea it was called drag, but after that, it just took a turn!

At the age of 13, I started playing around with makeup; but it wasn’t until I was like 18-19 that I realized that Hey, I’m pretty good at this! I’ve always painted, so I just started to act it out on my face instead.

Drag, to me, is so much more than just a female impersonator. Drag has stretched out so much this last decade. Now I’m really into changing cartoon characters into real life people. I love, for example, Cruella de Vil. She’s a real drag, for sure! I live for these really evil, charismatic, ego-tripped queens…cause that’s so far away from my real personality…I love to play around in that bitchy bubble, haha!”

RuPaul’s Drag Race season 3/Allstars 1 fan fave Mimi Imfurst (Braden Chapman) will star in an upcoming revival of Hedwig & the Angry Inch at the Ruba Club in Philadelphia.

The reTHEATER’s production of the 4th wall smashing gender bending rock musical will begin June 1st in Philadelphia at RUBA CLUB, and will be set as the backdrop for this new immersive production of the cult pop-culture phenomenon. With its incredible score and hilariously heartfelt book, this 20th anniversary production re-examines John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask’s explosive rock musical with a fresh eye while paying homage to its iconic flair.

Here’s what Mimi has to say about the importance of Hedwig in her life and taking on the iconic role:

This week director Jake Wilson dropped a visual cover of Troye Sivan’s music video “My My My!” with his signature  gender-reversal trademark and it’s kind of everything we wanted.

The original provocative visual stunner directed by Grant Singer became a provocative visual hit in early January that is now complete with it’s own ‘girl version featuring the gender-bending RuPaul’s Drag Race star Milk.

The family of bullied 12-year-old Andrew Michael Leach, who committed suicide last Tuesday, have posted a photo of their son in his open casket in the hope it would encourage bullies to understand the effect it has on their victims.

“I’m heartbroken, I’m heartbroken,” his mother said, adding that she and her ex-husband “are not going to stop with the anti-bullying. We are going to make sure that Andy’s voice is heard and his death is not in vain”

Andrew left a couple of suicide notes saying he took his own life after the bullying at his Mississippi middle school became unbearable.

‘I want them to know what they’ve done and how it affects other people,’ he wrote in one of the notes.

The boy’s father Matt Leach told WREG that the bullying intensified after his son came out as bisexual.

‘He was struggling a lot internally with sexual orientation,’ he said. ‘He finally came out with the information at school that he thought he may be bisexual. I think that really amped up the bullying.’

[His mother] Cheryl said she went into his school to speak with teachers but said she didn’t feel like the school did much about it.

‘The school that he went to has got an abundance of bullying. The kids can’t even go to the bathroom without fear,’ she added.

The parents are demanding to know if the school district’s zero-tolerance bullying policy was enforced.

‘From what we are hearing, there was a group of kids that would go around calling him fat, ugly and worthless,’ the grieving mother said.

Asked if she’d ever approached school administrators about the bullying issue, Hudson told the station: ‘I only spoke with the school’s 6th grade principal. I didn’t know how to handle it. His dad did talk to a teacher one time.’

Andy’s mother described him as ‘a sweet natured, fun loving kid who was easily a Momma’s boy.’

‘He was only 12 when he took his own life. I, as a mother, am absolutely crushed. I say I’ve cried all I can cry, but then moments later, I break down again.

‘I don’t think I’ll ever get over this.’

The alleged bullies are being investigated by police.

A GoFundMe campaign set up in Andrew’s memory had raised more than $11,400.

Sotheby’s is auctioning off an undergarment once worn by Russell Crowe that’s technically being referred to as a “vintage boxer protector” but looks like a used leather jockstrap to me. He wore it in the 2005 film, Cinderella Man, 

… in the scene depicting the Heavy Weight Championship bout, James J. Braddock vs. Max Baer on 13 June 1935, brown suede leather with elastic support,” the official description states.

It’s estimated to fetch in the neighborhood of $500-600, with the highest bidder receiving a letter from Russell Crowe stating his ownership.

The ever-iconic Amanda Lepore has a new EP out “Lepore,” a follow-up to her 2011 musical debut – five years in the making!

Producer Bill Coleman from Peace Bisquit explains their aim was to marry Amanda’s love of Hollywood glamour and vintage bombshells with a fearless kick up your Louboutins humor and a showgirl-worthy groove. The songs needed just the right amount of camp that would compliment the canon of classics Amanda performs in her nightclub shows. “We think we nailed it with this e,p. Amanda’s fans expect her to not only be glamorous but to also buck trends,” he says. “We’re excited for fans to hear the next evolution of music from the hardest working gal in nightlife. There’s more already in the works!”

Says Amanda:

“It why I love nightlife people because there is nothing better than a good kiki. Kisses to my musical collaborators who worked hard and captured the energy I wanted to deliver on LEPORE.. It’s for my fans around the globe that love the nightlife and love to boogie. I cannot wait to share the songs and perform them live.”

The e.p. begins with “Buckle Up,” a playful single with a burlesque, retro-pop swing. “My goal at shows is to whip naughty boys and girls around and leave ‘em asking the questions they don’t want their mothers knowing the answers to,” coos Lepore. She sings about it in ‘Buckle Up,’ written and produced by RedTop (“Convertible”), Knifekick, Ted Ottaviano (Book Of Love), DJ Angelo “Pepe,” indie-pop ingenue Megan Vice and Lepore’s long-time musical collaborator, Bill Coleman. The song is a reflection of Amanda. As she takes on the night, so does ‘Buckle Up’. And as easy as Amanda is on the eyes, the song is on the ears.

It is followed with “My Panties,” a saucy track co-written with perennial collaborator and Lepore bestie, gay hip hopper Cazwell, “He really gets me and knows how to write songs I’ll love and enjoy singing,” she says.

Next up is Amanda Lepore’s cover of David Bowie’s classic single, “The Jean Genie”. The song is a favorite of Amanda’s and one she has performed at live shows and burlesque events. After Bowie’s death two years ago, she made the decision she would cover the record as a tribute to her favorite legendary icon.

LEPORE. wraps with “Too Drunk To Fu*k,” a pop track that Amanda admits took her several recordings to perfect. Written by the Aussie DJ/producer/songwriter twin duo, NERVO (who recently scored a Top 10 with Sofi Tukker’s “Best Friend”) and co-produced by RedTop (who Amanda collaborated with on “Convertible,” her duet with Mya on I..Amanda Lepore), she was adamant to get the song on the album. “We recorded several different versions over the years but could never get it quite right. It finally clicked when we decided to take it an almost ’60’s, go-go box direction; as a throwback that was more in line with the rest of the e.p.”

Director Barry Jenkins

La La Land was infamously named the winner of Best Picture at the 2017 Academy Awards. But Moonlight, a loving portrait of a gay African-American man, was ACTUAL the winner.

Director, Barry Jenkins, was robbed of his moment to deliver the acceptance speech he had planned. But this week at the SXSW film festival in Austin – where Jenkins he got his first big break as a young filmmaker a decade ago– he got his chance.

The speech pays tribute to the playwright whose work Moonlight is based on, Tarell Alvin McCraney. He said:

“Tarell and I are Chiron. We are that boy. And when you watch Moonlight, you don’t assume a boy who grew up how and where we did would grow up and make a piece of art that wins an Academy Award — certainly don’t think he would grow up to win Best Picture.

I’ve said that a lot and what I’ve had to admit is that I placed those limitations on myself. I denied myself that dream — not you, not anyone else — me. And so, to anyone watching this who sees themselves in us, let this be a symbol, a reflection that leads you to love yourself.

Because doing so may be the difference between dreaming at all and somehow, through the Academy’s grace, realising dreams you never allowed yourself to have.”

Trump’s inauguration was presided over by Franklin Graham (son of Billy) who said that Moonlight is an attempt to convince young people to make “homosexual lifestyle choices”. He claimed:

“Many who had never heard of the film Moonlight, which received best picture, have heard of it now. From the reviews I have read, Moonlight portrays a young gay African American coming of age and it stereotypes him as violent, a drug dealer, and a convict.

Hollywood is notorious for glorifying sin. This is just another example of the LGBT’s agenda to make lifestyle choices that God defines as sin seem more and more culturally acceptable. I warn families and the church–don’t allow your young people to be sucked into Hollywood’s dark plan.

We love all people, but we have to be honest about sin’s consequences. Sin is sin—it doesn’t matter if it gets an Oscar or not.”

Like Trump, Graham gets it all wrong. You can bet he’s never watched the film. As you likely know, the main character, Chiron, gets an awkward handjob on the beach as a teenager and then abstains from sex for the rest of the film. And it does the opposite of glorify drugs, by showing harm they do to the community. So fuck Graham.

ConDRAGulations, Barry!

All across the East Coast waves of students have just marched out of class to demand stricter gun laws and an end to school massacres.

The National School Walkout started Wednesday at 10 a.m. ET and will continue across the country at 10 a.m. in each time zone. The protest was sparked by last month’s school massacre in Parkland, Florida, and fueled by years of anger about what many say are inadequate gun laws.

Those participating have three main demands for Congress:

• Ban assault weapons

• Require universal background checks before gun sales

• Pass a gun violence restraining order law that would allow courts to disarm people who display warning signs of violent behavior

Students will stay outside for 17 minutes — one minute for each of the 17 people killed in the Parkland massacre exactly one month ago.

Jackson Mittleman was an 11-year-old sixth-grader when a gunman killed 20 first-graders and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary, two miles from his school a tragedy that changed the course of his life. Now at 16, he’s a co-chair of the Jr. Newtown Action Alliance, who is organizing the walkout at Newtown High School,

“A message we’re trying to send to Parkland is we stand behind them. We are motivated and we are fired up to push as hard as they push and fight as long as they fight.”

Abigail Orton, a junior at Columbine High School, said she was inspired to take action on Wednesday by the quick progress of the Parkland students.

“I am absolutely amazed at the amount that they’ve already accomplished, getting their voices out there and being able to speak on this so recently after the event, and to be able to use their status to start bringing about change. I’m honored to be able to call this my generation and to be part of this movement.”

We can’t ignore the issues of gun control that this tragedy raises. And so, I’m asking – no, demanding – we take action now.

Parkland shooting survivor Cameron Kasky is one of hundreds participating and leading the March For Our Lives in Washington (and nationwide).

Today at 10:00 am PST students, teachers and allies will march out in demand that politicians take the mass shooting epidemic seriously. The 17 minute protest is to pressure Congress to approve gun control legislation. On the east coast many students have already began the protest –

Hundreds of students sat in the middle of West 62nd street for several minutes before the crowd rose to their feet and shouted, “No more violence.” A cry of “Trump Tower!” sent dozens of protesters marching toward the Trump International Hotel and Tower across Broadway. The lovely and talented Trixie Mattel visited Billboard to perform three songs from her new album One Stone –  “Solder,” “Moving Parts,” and “Break Your Heart” – as well answer some interview questions.

Her album One Stone is set to be released this Friday, March 16, following the finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.

In a wide-ranging interview with PrideSource, the always quotable Sandra Bernhard talks extensively about Roseanne‘s support of Trump, the historical impact of her bisexual character, Nancy, and what plans she has for upcoming seasons of the reboot. But it’s when she goes OFF on Kathy Griffin that things get REALLY interesting.

Did you think Kathy Griffin went too far with the picture of her holding Trump’s decapitated head?

It’s not about going too far – it just wasn’t funny, and she’s not political. Why is she suddenly jumping on the bandwagon? That’s not what she does. And it wasn’t smart enough or interesting enough. That was its biggest crime.

Mixing politics and comedy is a thin line, but Kathy Griffin has been politically engaged and an activist for the gay community.

She’s an activist? I don’t know. I don’t think she’s an activist, frankly. I mean, that’s – she certainly takes advantage of the gay population in her way, but I don’t think she’s done anything earth-shattering for … I mean, I don’t agree.

Who would you consider an entertainer and an activist?

I mean, I’m an activist for being a human being. There’s bigger fish to fry, and my work is inherently political, and it’s been inherently LGBTQ-informed because it’s who I am; it’s what I’ve done from the beginning. I don’t call my audience “my gays.” My audience is my audience and everybody in it forms an alliance every night. You perform for the entire crowd – it’s not about singling anyone out. And if your work is very, very daring and interesting, then smart people come to it, whether they’re gay, straight, black, white, men, women. I mean, you gotta be able to get underneath what’s really going on culturally, and then you’re always gonna have a smart audience sitting in front of you.
