As Promised, Trump and the First Family are No-Shows at Last Night’s Kennedy Center Honors

The 40th annual Kennedy Center Honors were held last night. The awards honor people in the arts who’ve made lifetime achievements in American popular culture and in some cases, have brought something new to the traditions. This year’s honorees are: dancer/choreographer Carmen de Lavallade, musicians Lionel Richie and Gloria Estefan, rapper and actor LL Cool J, and television pioneer and political activist Norman Lear.

Brown people, women and liberals, no wonder POTUS did not attend. It was only the fourth time in 40 years that a sitting president was a no-show at the gala, and the first time that the absence was not because of a national crisis. Our current president said he would skip the event ”to avoid a political distraction”.  But, maybe it was because he would need to refrain from tweeting while in front of the cameras. His statement simply emboldened presenters and honorees to speak their minds last evening

Caroline Kennedy began the evening with a an especially appropriate quote from her father:

”The men who create power make an indispensable contribution to the nation’s greatness, but the men who question power make a contribution just as indispensable, especially when that questioning is disinterested, for they determine whether we use power or power uses us.”

While speaking about the life and career of her friend, the Cuban-American Estefan, Academy Award-winner Rita Moreno quoted a segment of the State Department’s Mission Statement: ”…to foster conditions for the betterment of people everywhere.” Moreno, who is Puerto Rican went on to remark:

”Some of us have rattled the chains for issues of justice, well, mi amiga, Gloria, it is not lost on me tonight that one immigrant girl will honor another.”

Accepting her honor, Estefan said:

”People here think you can never lose this, but you can lose this. We all have to stand up for what this country is, for its values.”

LL Cool J is the first Hip-Hop artist to receive the Kennedy Center Honors. With a three decades-long career, he is a pioneer of the Rap genre. He is also, like the president, a native of Queens. Speaking of queens, fellow rapper Queen Latifah paid tribute to LL Cool J on stage before he received his award, along with Busta Rhymes, DMC and DJ Z-Trip. LL Cool J has earned many awards for music and acting, including two Grammy Awards.

Estefan is the first Cuban-American to receive a Kennedy Center Honor. She was the singer and co-songwriter for the Miami Sound Machine for nearly two decades. Her song, Get On Your Feet, was also the title of last season’s Broadway musical based on the singer’s life.

At 95-years-old, writer and producer Lear is the oldest Kennedy Center Honoree so far, and LL Cool J, at 49-years-old, became the youngest to receive the honor.

The president announced he would be missing the ceremony back in August after Lear and de Lavallade said they would boycott the awards if he was present.

POTUS’s 2018 budget proposal calls for eliminating the National Endowment for the Arts. Last summer, all 16 members of the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities resigned after the president embraced the White Nationalists during the events in Charlottesville.

Estafan:

“I’m thankful he chose not to come. All it does is overshadow the accomplishments of people who spent a lifetime trying to do something.”

De Lavallade, one of the first black dancers at the Metropolitan Opera, said she felt good about deciding she would decline to honor if POTUS would be there:

“This is the first time in my life I said no, and something in my soul, I’ve never felt that before — said no, no more.”

Lear:

“Trump is the middle finger of the American right hand. Why is this happening? Whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat, can we all seriously agree this is bad for America?”

The Kennedy Center Honors will be aired on December 26 on PBS. I love to watch them. I will really miss The Obamas. They would have really have dug this night.

#WTF?!?: Trump’s Plan to Ruin Everything Just Got One Step Closer!

Photograph from Federal Bureau Of Land Management

Hey, queens that like to hike and camp: President Obama designated several new National Monuments under the authority of the 1906 Antiquities Act, including The Stonewall Inn, the first National Monument to honor the LGBTQ Rights Movement, and far away in Utah, the Bears Ears National Monument. The monument encompasses more than 2,000 square miles.

It has long been fought over by environmentalists, native tribes, and energy, ranching and development interests.

Now, POTUS plans to roll back the size of Bear Ears by as much as 90%.

Secretary of Interior and noted White Nationalist Ryan “Stinky” Zinke claims that the monument designation is “not the best use of the land”. Potus and Zinke plan to roll back the boundaries to protect only the areas that include historic and prehistoric structures, such as archaeological sites and remains of ancient dwellings. The monument, as it stands now, is a vast area of red rock canyons named for two towering buttes called the Bears Ears. It is home to 100,000 archaeological sites.

The Antiquities Act, signed by Theodore Roosevelt, gives presidents the authority to protect designated areas as public monuments. In the past 110 years since its passage, presidents have used the law to protect millions of acres of public lands, including the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, The Everglades, The Great Smokey Mountains, Muir Woods and NYC’s Ellis Island.

Republicans have criticized Obama for what they view as overuse of the act. They claim that the monument designation stifles the right of locals to hunt and graze cattle. But, that is a lie, of course; they can do both with only some limitations. The move to reduce the size of Bears Ears and nearby Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument by nearly half will open both up for oil drilling, mining, logging and other development. President Bill Clinton created Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in 1996.

No president has ever used his authority to eliminate or drastically reduce the size of a monument. POTUS is determined to undo everything that his African-American predecessor accomplished.

Obama created Bears Ears National Monument in the final days of his presidency. It was the result of a years of lobbying from a coalition of Native American tribes and conservation groups. The designation was vehemently opposed by Utah’s congressional delegation, with Republican lawmakers vowing to undo the designation. The GOP also said they would attempt to repeal the 1906 Antiquities Act.

Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye said:

“The decision to reduce Bears Ears is being made with no tribal consultation. The Navajo Nation will defend Bears Ears. The reduction in the size of the monument leaves us no choice but to litigate this decision.”

Groups that oppose the president’s move include: National Parks Conservation Association, National Audubon Society, Defenders of Wildlife, The Conservation League, the Center for Western Priorities, and others. The groups have promised to sue.

What’s next, open up the Stonewall Inn to fracking?

This Administration’s plans would mean the largest reduction in federal land is history. Remember, this is public land. It belongs to us!

English writer Juno Dawson was born James Dawson. She worked as a school teacher, where she began writing books aimed at young adults including Hollow Pike, Say Her Name and Spot The Difference. Her six YA novels feature LGBTQ people, and Dawson has advocated for more young adult books to feature more prominent queer characters.

In 2014 Dawson wrote This Book Is Gay (2014), a non-fiction book aiming to be a “manual to all areas of life as an LGBTQ person”. The always delightful Sarah Palin was part of a petition drive to remove the book from the public library in Wasilla, Alaska, upset the profanity and sexually explicit elements of the book. Dawson responded by saying: “There is still such small-mindedness and hatred left to contend with”.

In 2015, Dawson came out as transgender. She wrote a column in Glamour Magazine documenting her experience of transitioning.

In 2017 Dawson published The Gender Games where she explores themes of gender as well as her own life experiences.

Madame Heinz

Age: 39

Location: Stockholm, Sweden

About:

Madame Heinz was the result of a series of coincidences. Had you told me three years ago that I would be a well known drag queen in Sweden, I would just have laughed. It started as a fun thing with my boyfriend of the time, where we went out in drag a couple of times. One thing led to another and after three months of doing drag, I was the official hostess of the Stockholm gay club King Kong and people wanted to book me.

And why the beard? When I started, I had never heard of bearded queens or Mathu Andersen (who many think inspired my drag)…I had just starting growing my beard and didn’t want to remove it…so, another coincidence. As time went by, I realized I really got inspired by all kinds of gender bending and I stopped wearing fake boobs and hip padding and stopped tucking. Also, people of all gender expressions started thanking me for being a role model for them, showing the world that you can be and look like whatever you want to or feel like. I even got a message on Instagram telling of a person who decided not to end their life after seeing my Instagram. So, what began as a fun thing is now a part of the fight of letting everybody decide who they are, who they wanna be and what they want to look like.
Behind all the bearded fabulousness, I’m a classically trained professional singer and conductor, who works with customer service 9 to 5 at an office…”

Fired Director Bryan Singer Claims FOX Wouldn’t Let Him Deal With Parent’s Illness

Much-gossiped-about director Bryan Singer has been let go of the highly anticipated Freddie Mercury biopic after reports he had “behaved erratically as director, not showing up for shooting on several occasions and reacted to tensions with actor Rami Malek by throwing an object on set.”

Singer has released a statement to THR, claiming none of that is true, that it was all because 20th Century Fox refused to allow him to deal with the illness of one of his parents.

“I wanted nothing more than to be able to finish this project and help honor the legacy of Freddie Mercury and Queen, but Fox would not permit me to do so because I needed to temporarily put my health, and the health of my loved ones, first….Bohemian Rhapsody is a passion project of mine. With fewer than three weeks to shoot remaining, I asked Fox for some time off so I could return to the U.S. to deal with pressing health matters concerning one of my parents. This was a very taxing experience, which ultimately took a serious toll on my own health. Unfortunately, the studio was unwilling to accommodate me and terminated my services. This was not my decision and it was beyond my control.”

Singer claims he asked Fox for some time off which the studio had refused, saying “This was not my decision and it was beyond my control.”

I have a feeling another shoes about to drop on this story, so stay tuned for further developments…

Robbie Williams Covers “9 to 5” and It’s Pretty Damn Perfect

It shouldn’t work. Dolly Parton‘s 1980 mega-hit “9 to 5” is one of those generation-defining hits that still stands up almost forty years later. It doesn’t need updating. It doesn’t need re-iterpreting. And it’s feminist message really shouldn’t be co-opted by a MAN. But put all that aside. I strongly urge you to give Robbie William‘s version a chance. It takes a second for your ears to adjust to the quickened pace and the general weirdness of Robbie’s voice singing the lyrics. But by the time he hits the first chorus, it all starts coming together in a glorious burst of Scissor Sisters-eque nuttiness and from that moment on, I guarantee you’ll be hooked. Listen below. Randy Travis’ Naked DWI Arrest Video Is Released

This is pretty painful to watch. Country singing legend Randy Travis was arrested in 2012 after crashing his Trans Am. He was found naked at the crash scene, after walking to a convenience store (also in the nude). His arrest video – three hours long! – shows him to be rambling, incoherent, exhausted, intoxicated and obviously medicated. It was released yesterday after a federal judge denied his request to keep it private.

According to his rep:

“Randy’s behavior was extremely altered the evening of his arrest due to the state of his mental health, and substances in his body, causing him to do and say things that were entirely out of character,” adding he suffered a severe concussion as a result of the crash.

The rep goes on … “Randy is deeply apologetic for his actions that evening. A man of integrity with a good heart, Randy does not and will never condone these type of actions that distort the true beliefs of Randy Travis and his entire family.”

Watch an edited 4-minute clip posted on TMZ below. Or don’t. Poor little guy. Hope he’s received the help he needs.

Chloë Savigny, Dakota Fanning, Elle Fanning, The Perks of Being a Wallflower star Julia Garner and Stranger Thing‘s Sadie Sink star in a new holiday campaign for Miu Miu. PAPER magazine calls the short fashion film “a wistful, intense reflection on the unexpected surprises and reunions that holidays can bring” and describes it as “overheard whispers [that are] reinterpreted as an inner monologue shared between the characters.” It’s either fabulous or annoying depending on your mood. I guess I’ll go with fabulous because when has Chloë ever done anything annoying? Watch below.

Daily WTF: Woman Caught Smuggling 227 lbs of Bologna Across Mexican Border

Hmmm. Is there a bologna shortage I’m not aware of? Is Mexican bologna somehow a higher grade of meat than American? And why would someone need 227 lbs of the stuff unless they were selling it on the bologna black market? Stories like this offer up more questions that answers, don’t you think? According to the US Customs Border Protection website, Field Operations officers and agriculture specialists working at the El Paso port of entry seized 23 rolls of Mexican bologna from a female driver attempting to enter the country with 227 pounds of tubed meat under the floor mats of her car.

When asked by the officers if she was bringing any fruits, vegetables or meat products across the border, the woman said “No,” she certainly was not. Of all the nerve. Upon further inspection it was revealed that she hadn’t been telling the truth, the meat was seized and destroyed, and she was given a $1,000 civil penalty.

Mexican bologna, the site reminds us, is a prohibited product because it is made from pork and has the potential for introducing foreign animal diseases to the U.S. pork industry.

Still, seems like a lot of meat to toss when they could have donated it to a nearby food bank or orphanage.

#BornThisDay: Actor, Wally Cox

$

December 6, 1924Wallace Maynard Cox:

“The one thing I hate about acting is the loss of privacy, I can be anonymous if I take off my glasses, no one can recognize me. But then I can’t see.”

After Wally Cox was taken by a heart attack in 1973, Marlon Brando kept Cox’s ashes close to him, usually in a drawer at his Mulholland Drive house or under the front seat of his car. This went against the wishes of Cox’s widow, who considered suing Brando for selfishly keeping the ashes. Brando had received them after saying that he would scatter them in the hills where Cox loved to hike. When Brando died in 2004, his family scattered both men’s ashes in Death Valley, where the pair liked to hike and explore.

Brando and Cox were 9-years-old when their parents introduced them. Brando’s mother and Cox’s stepfather were friends in Chicago, where the stepfather worked for NBC. The boys became fast, albeit unlikely, friends.

A few years later, Cox’s family moved to NYC. The Brandos, followed in the 1940s, so that Brando’s sister Jocelyn could studying acting. Cox made jewelry, lugging around his work in a pillowcase to sell at parties. Cox had a little act that he performed at those parties, and people encouraged him to put together a nightclub act. He was a hit in clubs in NYC and Hollywood and performed on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Cox’s career really took off in 1952, when he starred as the bookish high school science teacher Robinson Peepers in the television series Mr. Peepers, which aired live for three seasons on NBC. A decade later, he was a regular on The Hollywood Squares and the voice for the animated superhero Underdog, who would famously declare:

“There’s no need to fear! Underdog is here!”

At the same time, Brando’s career, of course, was hot, hot, hot. He was considered to be America’s finest actor, an actor’s actor. He electrified audience with his performance in A Streetcar Named Desire on stage. He became an icon with The Wild One (1953), and On The Waterfront (1954) brought him his first Academy Award. Although Brando and Cox were often the toast of NYC and Hollywood, the pair always found a way to be back in each other’s company.

Brando was fascinated with how funny Cox was, and Cox was fascinated by how handsome Marlon was; they envied each other for what each didn’t have. They had the same philosophy about fame and publicity. They were part of a new generation of actors who ignored the press and shunned the public. And, they were both extremely intelligent, and Brando and Cox liked to wrestle like kids. They’d do all sort of athletic things together, like swimming, motorcycles, hiking.

Brando could be both a first friend and a moody bully. He was charming, gracious, jealous and exasperating. Brando was temperamental and didn’t hesitate to take it out on everyone else. He was possessive of his friendships and had a reputation for breaking up relationships.

Cox, who married three times, also struggled with Brando’s demanding nature. Brando didn’t want any women to marry his best friend.

At the time of Cox’s death, Brando was at his compound in Tahiti. He rushed back to the USA when word reached him.

Three years after her husband’s death, his widow, actor Patricia Tiernan,  read an article about Brando in Time Magazine  where he recalled Cox:

“I can’t tell you how much I miss and love that man. I have Wally’s ashes in my house. I talk to him all the time.”

She said that wanted to sue, but the lawyers wouldn’t do it. They laughed.

Brando had affairs with Cary Grant, Rock Hudson, Stewart Granger, Montgomery Clift, John Gielgud and James Dean. He turned down Elizabeth Taylor and Sophia Loren. But, were Brando and Cox lovers? Brando claimed:

“If Wally had been a woman, I would have married him and we would have lived happily ever after.”

Plus, there is that photograph that surfaces on the Internet from time to time of Brando sucking a large dick, always attributed to being Cox’s cock. Brando had a history of tempestuous relationships, and much has been made of  his many liaisons with both women and men. Some friends and family of both men insist Brando’s relationship with Cox was platonic.

Brando:

“Homosexuality is so much in fashion, it no longer makes news. Like a large number of men, I, too, have had homosexual experiences, and I am not ashamed. I have never paid much attention to what people think about me.”

Cox was diminutive and diffident, and described himself as “a harmless preoccupied guy in a constant state of reduced effect”. He was especially good at playing the small, inhibited character who fights back at the world.

Photograph via YouTube

Cox was a talented writer. His published books include My Life As A Small Boy (1961), Ralph Makes Good (1966) and The Tenth Life Of Osiris Oaks (1972) about a boy and his 2,000‐year‐old cat.

During 110 episodes of Mr. Peepers, Cox charmed audiences playing the shy science teacher with a high-pitched, quavering voice. But, he never really liked doing the show:

“It was during the days of live programming and we had to remember the whole script. It was just too rigid and tense.”

It also bothered him that he would forever be associated with the role:

“I just wish people would forget Mr. Peepers since the shows weren’t recorded they are lost to history anyway.”

Cox also starred in The Adventures Of Hiram Holiday (1956-57), where he played a proofreader at a big city newspaper. It ran for one season on NBC. Then he used his mischievous wit in guest appearances on Hollywood Squares, talk shows, and as the voice of Underdog.

His film credits include: State Fair (1962), Spencer’s Mountain (1963), and The Yellow Rolls-Royce (1964).

“Acting is a rather simple thing which does not worry me too much.”

Brando:

“Wally was my friend. Nobody else’s.”

Photograph by Lawrence Fried, 1953, from UCLA Film Archives

Marlon and Wally. Wally and Marlon. A handsome, rebellious film icon and his droll, owlish comic bestie. Their bond survived decades, from their boyhoods and even beyond Cox’s unexpected death in February 1973, taken by a massive heart attack. He was just 48-years-old.

#QueerQuote: “I Loathe Narcissism, But I Approve Of Vanity.” – Diana Vreeland

In the more than 40 years that Diana Vreeland (1903 – 1989) was part of the fashion world, she was an oracle, the high priestess of fashion, a myth maker. She was the fashion editor of Harper’s Bazaar from 1937 to 1962, when she moved to Vogue. There, she was editor-in-chief until 1971.

Instead of resting on her laurels, she went on to become director of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, with a new career staging annual exhibitions that drew more than one million visitors a year and made the museum a center of fashion excitement for NYC and the world.

In her memoir, D. V. published in 1984, she did not restrict her pronouncements to fashion: ”Chutney is marvelous. I’m mad about it. To me, it’s very imperial.” And ”Lettuce is divine, although I’m not sure it’s really food.”

Sometimes her quips had a remarkably practical slant:

”Whatever the fashion, the important thing is time for upkeep. We take it for granted that a girl gets the best she can for herself. But, if she doesn’t keep it up, if it isn’t in beautiful condition, if the shoes aren’t cleaned before she wears them every day and her bag isn’t cleaned and everything in it cleaned, she’ll never look like anything.”

#WOWPresents: 10 RIDONKulously Inexpensive Gifts That Will Make You Go WOW! (Most Under $40)

$

Yes, I gave you 20 RIDONKulously Expensive Gifts That Will Make You Go WOW! and promised the budget version. I’m not just randomly picking cheap stuff, this is my own secret guide of things that cost next to nothing that people (especially me) love.

GOOGLE HOME
I recently bought some new appliances and got a FREE Google Home. I thought,

“Why do I need this? Whatever.”

Now I’m trying to see how I’ll EVER live without one in every room. You’ve seen the TV ads (and my Google is confused by them. “Hey, Google”, if it’s not me asking for the 47th time today;

“What time it is?” “What’s the temperature?” “Play Moon Boots.”

It’s basically a speaker that’s connected to Google. Ask it anything. Really, ANYTHING. Just come in from putting shrimp on the barbie? Say, “OK, Google time 10 minutes.” It mutes INSTANTLY, if the phone rings. I love it. Can you tell? And it’s on sale now. Regularly, $129, you can get it at Target and Best Buy for $79.

HARRY’S SHAVING SET
I’ve been using Harry’s razor blades for years now (it’s the same guys who founded Warby Parker, the eyeglass company that started the cheap prescription movement.) Harry’s design is great, the blades are cheaper than Gillete and the shave is closer. Their gift sets are well-priced and nicely packaged. Dads, bosses, boyfriends, brothers and besties will be thanking you for years for introducing them to Harry. $30 gift set.

HARRY & DAVID’S RIVERIA PEARS
Different Harry. You may know this company as it is decades old. I send their gift towers every year to my Mom and step-mother and they look forward to them. Last year I sent their Riveria Pears to my neighbors and they never stopped raving about them. For people who don’t even like pears, this stuff is the CRACK of pears. You’ll be getting thank yous until Easter. $34.99

TRADER JOE’S TREATS
I’m picturing these Dizzled Triple Ginger Biscotti because they are new (haven’t tried them) but ALL of Trader Joe’s cookies, candies, chocolates and treats are REALLY good and they are cheap too. Gift baskets are always a fortune, but not if you shop at Joe’s and put it together yourself. (Frozen cakes and pies are amazing too.) $4.

WEST ELM CANDLES
I know. Candles. Kinda boring. But these aren’t, they smell great and they are on sale right now. You won’t get any awards for originality, but you will be remembered every time they light up. $14

KAWS X PEANUTS FOR UNIQLO
As I type this, it might be selling out online. The KAWS collaboration with Peanuts & Uniqlo, especially the stuffed all black Snoopy I want. See what’s online and if it’s not available sign up for an email to notify you when it’s back in stock. Small plushy KAWS x Peanuts Snoopy, on sale $14.90.

IKEA PET BLANKET
Ikea has a whole new pet area and it’s not nose-bleed expensive like most well-designed pet store stuff is. If your giftee has a four-legged friend, then chances are they can use a pet blanket. It’s nice enough to be used as just a regular throw and there’s tons of matching beds, leashes, and accessories if you decide to got dog wild. $19.00

TWO GREAT BOOKS
Trust me, I know both of these authors, have read both books and am even in The Vanity Fair Diaries, believe it or not. I worked at VF in the early 80s and I was one of the first Americans Tina Brown met at the magazine before taking over the reins as editor in chief. (She calls me a “smart Texan”.) It’s a great read and really gives you the inside scoop on how a magazine ACTUALLY works. (Hint: It’s not the way it does in The Devil Wears Prada. I know, I worked at Vogue too) $20 Audio book, $32.

It was actually the author of The Price of Illusion, Joan Juliet Buck, who alerted me to the fact that I was made mention of in Tina’s book. I first met Joan at Vanity Fair and we’ve since become aquainted again through mutual friends. I’m not exaggerating just because she might read this, but Illusion is one of the top 5 memoirs I’ve ever read. I’m not alone in singing its praises. Moms, sisters, gay bf’s, yes, even straight guys will like this book, although females will REALLY love it. It crosses celebs, the fashion world, Hollywood, London, Paris and New York City life, sex and more. Get both if you want to really impress. Barnes & Noble, $20

20×200 PRINTS
Always great prints of art, illustration and photography for not much $$. They’ve been selling my prints since 2008 and still have 5 of them here. This print, Big Magic was created by Riverhead Design Labs for a book jacket for a new book by Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love). There’s tons to choose from, and just two 8 x 10″ prints of Big Magic left for $24.

THE WORLD ACCORDING TO WONDER
It’s not a new book, but now it’s a classic, soon to be VINTAGE! It’s a company I work for, detailing movies and TV shows I love, photographed by the fantastic duo Tony + Idris, written and produced by Fenton Baily and Randy Barbato, who I’ve know for 4 decades, and designed by ME! All 400 pages. If you don’t have it, or know a RuPaul’s Drag Race or WOW fan who doesn’t, get it. It comes in its own special box, too. $40.

#MeToo: Time Magazine’s “Person Of The Year” is the Silence Breakers

I am so relieved; Time Magazine’s Person Of The Year 2017 isn’t an accused sexual predator like last year. The magazine announced that their annual Person Of the Year honor is being shared among The Silence Breakers, the brave women who lit the fire that started the growing public movement against sexual assault and harassment.

The feature starts with  Ashley Judd, the first person in the film industry to go on the record, recounting her 1997 meeting with Harvey Weinstein. Judd:

“Literally, I exited that hotel room at the Peninsula Hotel in 1997 and came straight downstairs to the lobby, where my dad was waiting for me, because he happened to be in Los Angeles from Kentucky, visiting me on the set. And he could tell by my face—to use his words—that something devastating had happened to me. I told him. I told everyone.”

Judd also says that, at the time, there was only a “whisper network” within the industry that allowed for women to occasionally warn each other.

Judd:

“Were we supposed to call some fantasy attorney general of moviedom? There wasn’t a place for us to report these experiences.”

Other Silence Breakers in Time’s piece include Rose McGowan, art curator Amanda Schmitt, Taylor Swift, actor Terry Crews, housekeeper Juana Melara, farm worker Isabel Pascual, and many others. Some of the women remain anonymous, with fears of their livelihood being threatened or being ostracized in their communities.

Time’s editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal writes that the magazine’s decision to:

”…spotlight one of the highest-velocity shifts in our culture since the 1960s. For giving voice to open secrets, for moving whisper networks onto social networks, for pushing us all to stop accepting the unacceptable, the Silence Breakers are the 2017 Person of the Year”

Time’s Person Of The Year, was called Man Of The Year or Woman Of The Year until 1999. The annual issue profiles a person, a group, an idea, or an object that “for better or for worse… has done the most to influence the events of the year”. Pairs of people such as married couples and political opponents, classes of people, The Computer (Machine Of The Year in 1982), and Endangered Earth (Planet Of The Year in 1988), American Women (People Of The Year in 1975) have all been selected for the special year-end issue.

Last year, the honor went to the most prominent sexual predator on the planet, Donald J. Trump. Time could have named that issue “Pussy Grabber Of The Century”.

It Seems Jeffrey Tambor Might Not Be Leaving “Transparent” After All…

As I reported weeks ago, actor Jeffrey Tambour was stepping away from Transparent following accusations of sexual misconduct from his former personal assistant Van Barnes and his co-star Trace Lysette —although he categorically denied committing any sexual impropriety.

But now it looks like he doesn’t intend to leave after all. According to The New York Times, a representative for Tambor recently indicated that he has no plans to quit, despite the statement he made weeks ago, following Lysette’s accusation. ambor said then. “

“Playing Maura Pfefferman on Transparent has been one of the greatest privileges and creative experiences of my lifeWhat has become clear over the past weeks, however, is that this is no longer the job I signed up for four years ago. I’ve already made clear my deep regret if any action of mine was ever misinterpreted by anyone as being aggressive, but the idea that I would deliberately harass anyone is simply and utterly untrue. Given the politicized atmosphere that seems to have afflicted our set, I don’t see how I can return to Transparent.”

Now, his publicist, Allan Mayer, has clarified that comment to the Times:

“What he said was that given the toxic atmosphere and the politicization on the set, it’s very hard for him to see how he can possibly return. But no final decision for next year has been made, either by Jeffrey or by Amazon.”

The Amazon series had reportedly been contemplating a future without its repeatedly awarded star —but now it’s unclear whether Tambor will actually go the way of Kevin Spacey, or stick around.

Barnes, who is transgender, was the first to accuse Tambor of behaving inappropriately toward her in a private Facebook post. Amazon launched its investigation as Tambor denied the remarks, saying in a statement,

“I am aware that a former disgruntled assistant of mine has made a private post implying that I had acted in an improper manner toward her. I adamantly and vehemently reject and deny any and all implication and allegation that I have ever engaged in any improper behavior toward this person or any other person I have ever worked with. I am appalled and distressed by this baseless allegation.”

One week later came trans actress Lysette’s allegation—that the actor made lascivious remarks to her and tried to touch her inappropriately on set. Lysette was also Barnes’s roommate when she worked for Tambor; as she made her own accusation, the actress recalled, “She would come home wrecked and stressed. I saw him break her down. She for the most part kept it to herself. She was just like, ‘Girl, he is a piece of work. If you only knew what I’m going through.’ But I knew.”

Guess Where That $450 Million “Salvator Mundi” Is Going…?

The Louvre Abu Dhabi tweeted out a very simple message today:

“Da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi is coming to #LouvreAbuDhabi.”

The museum’s official Twitter account posted the message in three languages: English, Arabic, and French.

An odd way for such a big piece of news to be revealed. The somewhat contested painting has been the subject of intense speculation since its sale at Christie’s two weeks ago to a mystery buyer made it the most expensive painting EVER.

Following the Louvre’s initial tweet, Christie’s retweeted the message, adding their own:

“Congratulations — the Salvator Mundi is going to its new home the @LouvreAbuDhabi.”

All a Christie’s spokesperson would say was,

“We are delighted that the work will again be on public view. We have no further information.”

The Louvre nor the Louvre Abu Dhabi replied immediately when asked for further details on the social media posts. Last week, Louvre director Jean-Luc Martinez set the art world rumor mill abuzz with his comment to a radio interviewer in France suggesting he was looking forward to seeing Salvator Mundi hanging alongside Mona Lisa soon. At the time of that story, a Louvre spokesperson told artnet News:

“The Louvre is currently working on the list of the loans for the Leonardo da Vinci 2019 exhibition. It is too early to communicate on that list.”

The Louvre Abu Dhabi opened last month just days before the Salvator Mundi sale.
