Trans Teen Attacked by Mob at Phoenix Pool Party

Phoenix police are investigating a report that a transgender teen was assaulted at a pool party by a mob of up to 20 people.

Dakota Kern, 18, says she was invited to a pool party by people she knew, but once she got there she was repeatedly harassed by partygoers. As she and her two friends started to leave the pool area, a man yelled “get it, get it” and a group of up to 20 people attacked her.

“Then one of the guys, he ends up grabbing me by my head, grabbing me by my hair and then he hit me a few times,” says Kern.

One of her attackers captured the scene on a cell phone video and circulated on social media, Kern says. The footage shows Kern being shoved to the ground and kicked repeatedly.

“I passed out, hit my head on the concrete,” says Kern. “My friend was above me like slapping my face like ‘hey, come on come on, get up so we can go.’”

Anyone with information is urged to call police.

Anchorman Frank Reynolds showed live images from Washington state’s Goldendale Observatory, with live reports from former science correspondence Jules Bergman and reporter Bob Miller.

“So that’s it,” he concluded, “the last color eclipse to  be scene on this continent, this century. Not until August 21, 2017, will another eclipse be visible…. May the shadow of the moon fall on a world at peace.”

Variety Reports “All Stars” Season 3 Is a GO and Will Air on VH1 Alongside “Untucked”!

Yes, squirrel friends, the rumors are true! Variety reports today that RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars will officially be back for a third season. Additionally, VH1 has greenlit another season of the behind-the-scenes sister show RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked to be aired on the network, rarer than on the WOWPresents digital platform. YAY!

“The world is calling out to see more of these beautiful queens and I am going to give them every bit of it they can handle,” executive producer and host RuPaul says. “‘All Stars’ represent the best of the breasts, legs, and thighs. They are giving everything and you’re not going to want to miss it!”

The third installment of “All Stars” will mark the return of “Drag Race” to VH1 after moving there from sister Viacom network Logo. This will be the first time “All Stars” will run exclusively on VH1, which executive producer Tom Campbell tells Variety will give the competing queens a new and larger platform. “I think there’s going to be queens that the audience who’s just discovering ‘Drag Race’ may not know, as well, or may be discovering for the first time. It’s going to be exciting to see queens get a second bite of the apple and get some exposure

Social media is a key factor at this time in the show’s history. “We’re incredibly lucky that we have a cast who is already well-known, and right when we announce it people are going to be jumping up and down with joy,” executive producer Randy Barbato says.

However, Barbato says the priority when putting together the cast for “All Stars” is not the size of the queens’ followings, but who has “the chops.” “It’s either talent that we think wasn’t fully recognized during their previous season, talent that we think have demonstrated improvement – there’s a variety of things we look at when we’re putting together the cast,” Barbato says. “What makes ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ so unique from so many other competition shows is that there is this cornucopia of incredible talent, so we have this amazing canvas of drag queens to choose from.”

Of course, the producers want to surprise their core audience and welcome new fans to the show, as well. Bringing the Emmy-nominated “Untucked” onto VH1 is just another way to do that. Though the companion series started on Logo, it has most recently lived in the digital space. Putting it back on television will open the platform up further and give the audience deeper insight into the contestants. “This is the show, watching the queens. It combines our love of drag with our love of documentary, and we just let it happen,” executive producer Bailey Fenton says. “As it plays, it’s very real, and that’s the joy of it.”

All Stars will will begin airing on VH1 in early 2018. Untucked will return just in time for the milestone 10th season of Drag Race, which is set to premiere in spring 2018.

Coy Stewart and Nolan Gould (of Modern Family fame) are gay classmates and BFs struggling to come to terms with their sexuality in this beautifully shot music video which takes its title from the phone number of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Their fathers, played by Don Cheadle and Matthew Modine, are less than supportive when  when the boys are caught in bed together. Stewart’s character is then bullied by classmates, runs away from home, and contemplates suicide.

He tells Too Fab:

“I learned how it feels to kind of carry that weight when the world doesn’t accept you and that’s a scary weight to carry,” Stewart says of his performance. “I understood, once I put myself in that mind state, how scary it can be to be alive in this world when you have so many people in this world condemning you for just being who you are.”

Adds Gould:

“With everything happening under the Trump administration, the LGBT community needs to see this video, learn about the hotline, and know that there are people that care about them. They need to know they are loved and even though this a trying time, things are going to get better and we here for them.”

“I think the biggest message you can take away is to not only love yourself, but to also love everyone else around you,” continues Stewart, who says he has gay friends and family. “If you, yourself, are going through anything, anything, anything just know there’s always someone who wants to listen and wants to help you.”

“I lived a very ‘Don’t-Ask-Don’t-Tell’ life.” – Tab Hunter . Picture: Tab Hunter (b. Arthur Andrew Kelm; July 11, 1931), c. 1955. . Tab Hunter, who turns eighty-six today, is an American actor, singer, and author, best-known as a leading man in Hollywood during the 1950s and 1960s, and for his work in John Waters’ “Polyester” (1981). . In September 1955, as he skyrocketed to fame based largely on his striking “All-American” good looks, the tabloid magazine “Confidential” published a piece on Hunter’s 1950 arrest for disorderly conduct (i.e., being at a gay house party); it later was revealed that Hunter’s agent, Henry Wilson, cut a deal with “Confidential” to out Hunter (and Roddy McDowall) in exchange for protecting another of Wilson’s gay clients, Rock Hudson. . While the news did not immediately impact Hunter’s career, he largely faded from the public eye by the mid-1960s. . Hunter’s career enjoyed a revival of sorts in the 1980s, when he starred opposite Divine in John Waters’ “Polyester,” and appeared, as Mr. Stewart, in “Grease 2.” . In 2006, Hunter released his autobiography, “Tab Hunter Confidential: The Making of a Movie Star,” later released as a documentary film, in which he acknowledged, for the first time, that he is gay; he also confirmed that he had long-term relationships with actor Anthony Perkins and figure skater Ronnie Robertson. . Since 1983, Hunter has been in a relationship with film producer Allan Glaser. #lgbthistory #HavePrideInHistory #TabHunter

The Village Voice Ends Its Print Edition Due to Declining Ad Revenues

It’s the end of an era, definitely. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting today that the iconic NYC alt-weekly newspaper The Village Voice is ending its print editions and will only be available online. Owner Peter Barbey, who purchased the VV in 2015, cited declining ad revenues in its free print edition as one of the primary reasons for the production halt.

“For more than 60 years, The Village Voice brand has played an outsized role in American journalism, politics, and culture,” Barbey said in a prepared statement. “It has been a beacon for progress and a literal voice for thousands of people whose identities, opinions, and ideas might otherwise have been unheard. I expect it to continue to be that and much, much more.”

The Village Voice, like most historically print-focused publications, has struggled with the shift to less-remunerative digital advertising. The paper was once reliant largely on classified advertising.

“That business has moved online—and so has the Voice’s audience, which expects us to do what we do not just once a week, but every day, across a range of media, from words and pictures to podcasts, video, and even other forms of print publishing,” Barbey said.

“The most powerful thing about the Voice wasn’t that it was printed on newsprint or that it came out every week,” Barbey said. “It was that The Village Voice was alive, and that it changed in step with and reflected the times and the ever-evolving world around it. I want The Village Voice brand to represent that for a new generation of people—and for generations to come.”

“Whole Nine Yards” – Adore Delano SLAYS In her New Music Video

The children are LIIIIIIIIVING, omgomgomg, for Adore Delano‘s new look, new sound, and brand spanking new music video.

Watch it below.

The season six standout spoke to Brandon Voss of Billboard magazine about the release of her new album, Whatever.

What sets Whatever apart from your first two albums?
I wanted to give more of the vibe of the s–t I liked as a kid, so I tapped into all the bands I listened to when I was younger, like L7 and Babes in Toyland. I’m super into chick bands.

You made headlines earlier this year when you filed a lawsuit against your management company for alleged mishandling of funds. Are you working with a new record label?
No, this is my first independent project. I flew out to Arizona and teamed up with my friend Nathan [Morrow], who produced the album, and we just rocked out with his band.

Did you feel like you couldn’t be your true self on your other albums?
I think I was in different headspace. It’s the same book, different chapter. In a year’s time, traveling the world and having so many experiences, I feel like I’ve grown five years. I’m like Catwoman — I’ve died, like, four times.

Your young fans have really responded to your electro-pop anthems. Do you worry whether or not they’ll get on board with your harder punk sound?
That’s the gamble, man. You never know what the kids are going to react to, but a lot of my fans like the same bands that I like, and they know my vibe. I created this music to go with my performance style, so I think they’ll be receptive. If not, they still have my old s–t. Whatever.

Hence the album title?
Exactly. People will take it or leave it. Yeah, it’s a different sound that won’t be easy for everybody to swallow, but that’s OK. RuPaul once told me, “They’re either going to like it or they’re not. That’s life. Get over it.”

Many Drag Race alums release parody and novelty songs. Does that make it harder to get people to take you seriously as an artist?
Yeah, and it also makes it harder for me to sell some of the hardcore Drag Race fans on my music. As I evolve as an artist, I get more serious about my craft, because I’m smoking more weed. [Laughs] No, but I do feel like I’m evolving as a serious writer, and I’m tapping into cool s–t that the kids need to hear right now. So, yeah, it’s hard when my competition goes the parody route, but, you know, there are a lot of colors in the rainbow.

Punk and drag make sense together. I’m surprised we don’t hear more of that sound from the queens.
I know, right? I’m completely baffled, because the idea of drag itself is punk rock, total rebellion, going against the grain. We need to bring that back.

A lot of anger comes through on the album. What personal issues influenced your songwriting?
This entire year has been a rollercoaster, from the political climate down to my legal battles that I shouldn’t talk about. There’s a lot going on that’s helping me grow up really quickly and see life from a completely different perspective. I’ve been reading, learning about what’s going on, and it makes me angry, man. I had to get some aggression out. But there’s some heartbreak and sex on the album too.

You also recently moved to Seattle. Has that influenced your sound?
I’ve always been inspired by Nirvana and that whole vibe, but yeah, just living here, walking down the street in the frickin’ rain, has been a big influence — especially for my song “27 Club.”

And what about “Whole 9 Yards,” which we’re premiering?
There’s a sexual double meaning there, like, I’ll take your whole nine yards and I’ll take you for everything that you are. We wanted a young, summer thing for the “Negative Nancy” video, but the “Whole 9 Yards” video is completely different — sexier, more grownup, more makeup.

You opened up this year about identifying as nonbinary. What has the response been like from your fans?
They’ve been really receptive and loving. We’re in this weird, cool sexual and gender revolution with people broadening their horizons and trying to figure out where they’re at. It’s a ’70s vibe right now that I’m in love with. I’ve been picking my mom’s brain, like, “How were the ’70s? Were the ’70s like this?” She’s like, “No, b—h.”

How has embracing your gender identity influenced your music?
I remember growing up with Mechanical Animals by Marilyn Manson, seeing that imagery and being like, “What the hell? He’s literally on MTV with tits!” That really influenced me, so I want to explore that whole idea that gender isn’t a real thing — that it’s just something they came up with to categorize and control people.

Do you see yourself ever releasing more music as Danny Noriega?
Yeah. I don’t even know where it starts and ends anymore — Adore is turning into Danny, Danny’s turning into Adore, and pretty soon I won’t know the difference. There’s some Pete Burns s–t about to happen next year.

You expressed some regrets last year after quitting RuPaul’s Drag Race: All-Stars 2. Would you consider returning for another All-Stars?
Like the next one? Hell no! In the future? Sure, probably, yeah. But I’ll give you the PC answer and say, “Right now I just want to focus on my music.”

Freak Show star Laverne Cox hinted at an upcoming collaboration with Queen Bey on yesterday’s Access Hollywood.

“So, I have no idea [how this came about] to be perfectly honest,” Cox told the entertainment news show. “I’m like, does she pick out her biggest fans ever and work with her? It’s pretty amazing.”

So… still no clue as to what the two could be cooking up…

Omg, is it a remake of Single White Female? Oooooh please let it be a remake of Single White Female! (Except…. let’s change the title. Never really noticed how racist and cis-centric it was until now….)

Martin Scorsese Is Producing a “Gritty, Grounded” Joker Origin Story

This could be interesting.

The Guardian is reporting today that Martin Scorsese will produce a ‘hard-boiled crime film’ about the early days of The Joker that will pay stylistic homage to his films of early-80s.

The film – an origin story of the character, which won’t be attached to any other iteration – will be directed by The Hangover’s Todd Phillips, who will co-write the film with Scott Silver (8 Mile, The Fighter).

While Jared Leto is currently playing the character in the DC expanded universe, including in the forthcoming Suicide Squad sequel and Gotham City Sirens, the new film, according to Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr, “will launch the character with a different actor, possibly younger”.

“The intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-80s Gotham City that isn’t meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorsese’s films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy,” he writes.

#SpaceBling: It’s Raining Diamonds on Uranus and Neptune

It’s incredibly poetic to think about: Sparkling diamonds raining down from the heavens, covering the ground in a glittering, gazillion dollar carpet.

For years, scientists have theorized that’s what happens on the ice giants at the farthest reaches of our solar system, when the high pressure in the atmosphere squeezes carbon atoms into diamonds.

Now scientists say they have managed mimic conditions found within these planets to produce tiny diamonds in the laboratory.

A team from the US, the UK, and Germany recreated the conditions found deep inside Uranus (HA!) and Neptune and watched as tiny diamonds formed.

Via The Telegraph:

To create the ‘rain’, scientists used a sheet of polystyrene which contains similar intense quantities carbon and the shocked it with extreme soundwaves to recreate the high pressure of the outer planets.

Nearly every carbon atom turned into a small diamond of a few nanometers wide. On Uranus and Neptune, the study authors predict that diamonds would become much larger, maybe millions of carats in weight.

“We can’t go inside the planets and look at them, so these laboratory experiments complement satellite and telescope observations,” said Dr Dominik Kraus, scientist at Helmholtz Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, Germany, and lead author on the publication.

“Previously, researchers could only assume that the diamonds had formed. When I saw the results of this latest experiment, it was one of the best moments of my scientific career.”

Researchers think it’s possible that over thousands of years, the diamonds slowly sink through the planets’ ice layers and assemble into a thick layer around the core.

The experts say that the nanodiamonds made on Earth could potentially be harvested to make the tips of precision medical instruments, or used in electronics.

KKK Fliers Urge People to Support Gay Bashing

Fliers from the Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan have been popping up in the Hidden Pines subdivision of Mandelay, Louisiana with messages like “Stop AIDS: Support Gay Bashing,” “Homosexual men and their sexual acts are disgusting and inhuman,” and “Our race is our nation.”

The flyers include a web address and telephone number, where interested parties can join the effort to kill gay people. Calling the number gets you an automated message that says, “Save our land, join the Klan, white power” before redirecting you to a KKK chapter in North Carolina.

Via Queerty, via WWLTV

Sonja Chaves, found one of the fliers outside her home.

“It’s hurtful, it’s scary,” she says. “I have a little boy. We have neighbors. They have kids.”

Residents in her development have also found paper bags with either a rock or candy in them along with one of the fliers.

“I mean, I guess it’s kind of repulsive, you know,” says resident Patrick Sarver.

“I mean, I don’t discriminate against any group and I don’t feel like anyone around here should be discriminated against either.”

“I’m extremely hurt by it,” says one woman, who wished to remain anonymous. “As a member of the gay community… I think it shows the ignorance of society still.”

People have been finding the flyers all summer long. Some KKK organizations claim it’s part of a massive recruiting effort.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating.

Meanwhile, the local FBI office claims it’s monitoring the situation and keeping a look out for possible federal violations.

LAPD Now Investigating Death of Sex Worker Allegedly Killed By Democratic Donor’s Creepy Drug Fetish

Crime Watch Daily reports that the LAPD may FINALLY be launching a probe into the July 27th death of a 26-year-old man at a wealthy Democratic donor’s home in West Hollywood. Initially, the circumstances surrounding Gemmel Moore‘s meth overdose had been labelled accidental, although his mother, LaTisha Nixon, told The WeHo Times she suspected something more nefarious happened to her son at the hands of high-rolling Democratic donor Ed Buck.

LaTisha Nixon says she learned that her son, who was unemployed, had recently been doing sex work. She told the WeHo Times that her son’s friend was also engaged in similar activity—and that they had a client in common.

“He told me that Ed Buck was one of my son’s clients and that Ed Buck was one of his clients as well,” Nixon said. “[Buck] would have my son to go out to… Santa Monica Boulevard looking for young gay black guys so he could inject them with drugs, see their reaction and how [they] would react and take pictures of them.”

Nixon says a detective from the West Hollywood Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department who called her following her son’s death said no drugs or paraphernalia were found at Buck’s home.

Nevertheless, Nixon is steadfast in her accusations about the activist’s alleged fetish for getting young African American men high.

“[He] would supply heroin, meth and other drugs to him to smoke or use with a needle,” Nixon alleges. “Buck would pleasure himself at the sight of my son using drugs…”

She asserted that Gemmel Moore’s friends told her, “the bigger the cloud of smoke,” the bigger the reward from Buck, who “would excitedly encourage [Gemmel] to increase his dosage by saying, ‘more, more, and I’ll give you $500 more.’”

Via KTLA news:

The circumstances surrounding Gemmel Moore’s death have been called into question, and the man’s mother, Letisha Nixon, spoke at a West Hollywood City Council meeting Monday. Nixon said people have come forward with incriminating information about Ed Buck, the wealthy political donor whose home is where Moore was found dead on July 27.

At the council meeting, officials from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said they needed the cooperation of other alleged victims but acknowledged some have been reluctant — possibly due to their own involvement in illegal activity.

The Sheriff’s Department announced last week that homicide investigators were, in “an abundance of caution,” reviewing Moore’s death, which the department said had been determined to be the result of accidental overdose. An Aug. 15 sheriff’s news release stated “responding deputies revealed no suspicious circumstances of foul play.”

Nixon, however, requested the council put pressure on agencies to look into her son’s death. Nixon wants the council to ask the county District Attorney’s Office to offer immunity to other escorts if they come forward with information about Buck, according to Jasmyne Cannick, an activist and writer who has been promoting Nixon’s concerns about Buck.

“I just want you guys to please put pressure on whoever needs pressure, so that these people can get immunity and I can get justice for my son,” Nixon told the council.

One alleged victim, who remained anonymous, told KTLA last week that Buck has instructed escorts to ingest drugs so he can watch their reactions.

“He gets his thrills just based off you getting high,” he said. “He wants to see your reaction. He wants to see how can you take it — if you can handle it or not.”

For now, homicide investigators are still looking to hear from other alleged victims while Nixon continues to fight for a thorough investigation.

“I’m asking for justice for my son — regardless to the fact of whatever he did,” Nixon said during the meeting. “He still was my son. He still was a person.”

Malcolm Forbes and The Curious Case of the Closet Case Capitalist Tool and His Beautiful Beard: A Republican Mystery

“Men who never get carried away should be.”

Malcolm Forbes

The personality trait I most deplore in others? Entitlement. Here is a little tale:

Today, Malcolm Stevenson Forbes probably means nothing to anyone under 60-years-old. Yet, when he died 28-years ago at 70-years-old, he was one of the most famous men in America, the result of his shameless, showy smarts at self-promotion.

Forbes inherited Forbes Magazine from his father, its founder, B.C. Forbes, in the late 1950s when he was 38-years-old. The magazine had long been a successful business magazine with a strong personality identification with B.C. Forbes. By the early 1970s, Malcolm Forbes, now sole owner, turned it into a hugely successful business monthly magazine. One of his great sensations was the magazine’s annual Forbes 400 Richest People.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Forbes lived a luminous, lavish lifestyle, separate from his sedate base, on an inherited estate with his large family. In those years, he became more prominent and he took to being a big deal among the bright lights of NYC. His very public image was defined by his large yachts, his private jets, his residences around the world, and his planeloads of famous, powerful friends.

On a weekend in late August 1989, Forbes threw himself a 70th birthday party in Tangier, where he owned a palace, the Palais Mendoub. 800 guests were flown in on a chartered Concorde: famous friends, wealthy associates, USA Governors and other politicians, CEOs of multinational corporations, Henry Kissinger, Barbara Walters, Robert Maxwell, and the birthday boy’s “date” for the event, Elizabeth Taylor. Not the first time Taylor had been a beard.

It was a party of glitter, glamour and guise, comparable to Truman Capote’s Black And White Ball 23-years earlier. It was well publicized in the fashion and society pages, with a big whack of fairy-dust in the daily newspapers. The event was good for business, mingling advertisers and potential advertisers with the elites of London and Manhattan and of course, Elizabeth Taylor. It was good for his social reputation, transporting and taking care of his very rich friends for free and in style in an exotic country with a Mediterranean climate. The party entertainment was on a grand scale: 600 drummers, acrobats and dancers, a fantasy with a cavalry charge which ended with the firing of muskets into the air by 300 Berber horsemen. The cost of this shindig was more than $5 million.

Forbes died less than six months after his party, at home on his estate in Far Hills, NJ. Shortly after he died, he was “outed” as gay by journalist Michelangelo Signorile. Forbes was long known to be gay by some and unknown to many. In his later years, he became quite the partyer, making up for lost time. The “outing” was a shock, especially to his friends who were not aware, or chose not to believe, that he was gay. Signorile published the story with the intention of showing how acceptable a gay man could be without the predictable pale of prejudice. In Forbes case, the band did not play on.

When Forbes died, he was held up by Conservatives as The Great American Capitalist. Signorile felt that the historical record also needed to show that he was queer. He interviewed many people who knew Forbes as gay, some of them were men who’d been intimately involved with Forbes.

Highlighting how heated it was, at that time, to report on the gayness of a public figure who was dead, let alone living, many newspapers viewed Signorile’s story as shocking and scandalous and it took months for some papers to report on it. The NY Times ran the story four months after the fact. But, it was an article about the act of outing, and they still would not identify Forbes by name, saying that a “recently deceased businessman” had been outed.

Years later, the NY Times finally reported that Forbes was gay, in a story about his son Steve Forbes’ run for POTUS. Steve Forbes had courted the Conservative Christian Right and had come out publicly against Gay Rights and Marriage Equality while campaigning.

Too bad Malcolm Forbes didn’t live in our era. He could have married the closeted Koch brother and been at the very top of FORBES 400 list.
