Jay-Z’s Mother Comes Out on His New Album

$

It’s the last day of Pride month, and we all got a tingle-inducing little bonus: Jay-Z‘s mother Gloria Carter just came out on her son’s new album 4:44.

In the song “Smile,” (which samples Stevie Wonder), Jay raps about his mother’s sexuality:

Mama had four kids but she’s a lesbian
Had to pretend so long/she’s a thespian
Had to hide in the closet so she medicate
Society’s shame and the pain was too much to take
Cried tears of joy when you fell in love/Don’t matter to me if it’s a him or her
I just wanna see you smile through all the hate
Marie Antoinette, baby, let them eat cake

Then, at the end of the track, Mama Carter delivers the following spoken word interlude describing the pain of her life in the closet:

Living in the shadow, can you imagine what kind of life it is to live?
In the shadows, people see you as happy and free, because that’s what you want them to see.
Living two lives, happy but not free. You live in the shadows for fear of someone hurting your family or the person you love.
The world is changing, and they say it’s time to be free.
But you live with the fear of just being me.
Living in the shadow feels like the safe place to be.
No harm for them, no harm for me.
But life is short and it’s time to be free.
Love who you love, because life isn’t guaranteed.
Smile.

Beautiful. Come out of the shadows, Gloria, and be accepted for your authentic self!

Elsewhere on the album, as I’m sure you’ve heard by now, Jay-Z (yes, he’s back yo using the hyphen – it’s so confusing) apologizes to Bey in the song “Kill JAY-Z”:

You egged Solange on, knowing all along all you had to say you was wrong
You almost went Eric Benet, let the baddest girl in the world get away…
I don’t even know what you woulda done, in the future, other niggas playing football with your son.

And on “Family Feud,” which features vocals from Beyoncé, he acknowledges “Becky with the good hair”:

Yeah, I’ll fuck up a good thing if you let me
Let me alone Becky!

Jennifer Tilly Returns for “Cult of Chucky” (& It Actually Looks Kind of Fun)

Chucky, the foul-mouthed killer doll, is BACK! In the eighth installment of the horror series, Chucky runs amok in an insane asylum where he once again squares off against his longtime foe Andy (the now-adult Alex Vincent). Also returning are Jennifer Tilly as Chucky’s twisted bride Tiffany, Fiona Dourif as Nica, and Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky.

“Confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years, Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic “tool” to facilitate his patients’ group sessions – an all-too-familiar “Good Guy” doll with an innocently smiling face – a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all. Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), Chucky’s now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child’s Play, races to Nica’s aid. But to save her he’ll have to get past Tiffany (Oscar-nominee Jennifer Tilly), Chucky’s long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll.”

Fun, right?

Universal has revealed that Cult of Chucky will arrive on Blu-ray and DVD on October 3rd. Additionally, Chucky: Complete 7-Movie Collection will also drop on Blu-ray™ and DVD on October 3, 2017 in the United States only. Watch the Red Band trailer below (which looks like it’s heavier on the horror this time around).

From the collection of S. Rutledge

IT’S A SIN

When I look back upon my life

It’s always with a sense of shame

I’ve always been the one to blame

For everything I long to do

No matter when or where or who

Has one thing in common, too

It’s a, it’s a, it’s a, it’s a sin

It’s a sin

Everything I’ve ever done

Everything I ever do

Every place I’ve ever been

Everywhere I’m going to

It’s a sin

At school they taught me how to be

So pure in thought and word and deed

They didn’t quite succeed

For everything I long to do

No matter when or where or who

Has one thing in common, too

It’s a, it’s a, it’s a, it’s a sin

It’s a sin

Everything I’ve ever done

Everything I ever do

Every place I’ve ever been

Everywhere I’m going to

It’s a sin

Father, forgive me, I tried not to do it

Turned over a new leaf, then tore right through it

Whatever you taught me, I didn’t believe it

Father, you fought me, ’cause I didn’t care

And I still don’t understand

So, I look back upon my life

Forever with a sense of shame

I’ve always been the one to blame

For everything I long to do

No matter when or where or who

Has one thing in common, too

It’s a, it’s a, it’s a, it’s a sin

It’s a sin

Everything I’ve ever done

Everything I ever do

Every place I’ve ever been

Everywhere I’m going to – it’s a sin

It’s a, it’s a, it’s a, it’s a sin

It’s a, it’s a, it’s a, it’s a sin

Confiteor Deo omnipotenti vobis fratres

quia peccavi nimis cogitatione

Verbo

Opere et omission

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa

Christopher Lowe / Neil Tennant

It’s A Sin was the lead single from Pet Shop Boys’ second album, Actually. It was released on June 30, 1987. It became the boys’ second number one single in the UK. It was the best-selling European single of 1987. In the USA, It’s A Sin reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it Pet Shop Boys’ third Top 10 hit in America

The song is a comment on Tennant’s Catholic education at St. Cuthbert High School in Newcastle Upon Tyne, implying that he was taught that everything pleasurable in life is to be regarded as sinful. When it was released, the school complained about the song to the press.

The song uses samples from the Latin Mass. Many of song’s sound effects were recorded in Westminster Cathedral. Tennant has said that he wrote the lyrics in 15 minutes, purging his emotions in a moment of frustration and anger.

The Latin passage near the end translates: “I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers, that I have sinned exceedingly in thought, word, act and omission, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault”.

The Baroque over-the top production is filled with synthesizers plus full orchestra, and is bookended by a non-sequitur sample of a NASA countdown.

Pet Shop Boys nearly always include It’s A Sin in the concert set list; one of only two songs, alongside with West End Girls, that has been played during every Pet Shop Boys tour.

When it was releases, British DJ Jonathan King accused the Pet Shop Boys of plagiarizing the melody for It’s a Sin from Cat Stevens’ hit Wild World (1971). He made the claim in The Sun newspaper, where he was a columnist. Pet Shop Boys sued King, winning out-of-court damages, which they donated to charity.

It was bounced out of the Top 10 by I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) by Whitney Houston in early July.

The original video for It’s A Sin was directed by gay artist / filmmaker Derek Jarman, their first of several highly experimental collaborations. It is not available to post, but here they are in concert from 1989:

“Hookers for Healthcare” Are Worried About Trumpcare’s Impact on their Livelihood

A group of about a hundred brothel workers in Nevada have joined “Hookers for Healthcare,” a group that’s helping to raise awareness about how Trumpcare could harm their lives and careers.

Says Alice Little, who works at the Sagebrush Ranch brothel near Carson City, Nevada,

“These ladies are often stereotyped and I want to bring some humanity to their stories. We are people. We have families. We have the same health concerns as other Americans.”

“A young woman entering our business who in some cases may also be a single mother with limited financial means will also need time to build her customer base,” Little wrote. “Expanded access to Medicaid for her or her child may be the only way that she is able to know that they will be covered for health care until she can increase her income.”

And it’s not just the sex workers who might be adversely affected by Trumpcare. Brothel cashiers, bartenders, housekeepers, and drivers could also lose access to health care if the law no longer required many employers to provide insurance.

“If Obamacare were repealed, that mandate would be lifted, and these hard working parents and grandparents would lose access to coverage for themselves and their families,” she said.

People over the age of 65 make up a very large percentage of Nevada brothel clients. If these clients are forced to pay unfairly augmented health care costs, they will not have money on hand to spend on the things that make life worth living in the first place — like sex with a beautiful and talented working girl.

That will in turn have a devastating effect on our entire industry, and negative impact on small businesses is the antithesis of what President Trump campaigned on.

Native American Designer Bethany Yellowtail on Cultural Appropriation & Making Dresses with a Message

There was a great LA Weekly write-up of Bethany Yellowtail‘s Native American  pop-up art gallery/fashion show at the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery earlier this month. Bethany spoke of collaborating with other Native makers and designers to “mash up cultural styles, and bring a contemporary feel to sometimes ancient art forms.”

“[We’re] celebrating what’s happening now, right now in indigenous America and indigenous communities,” she says.

The importance of true Native American creators such as Yellowtail cannot be overstated at a time when “Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters steal indigenous design, small-time ‘makers’ on Etsy or Instagram are complicit in cultural appropriation, and the persistent Coachella headdress still summons groans across the internet.”

“Native culture, when it’s authentic, it comes from within,” says Navajo/Diné model Siera Begaye (who showcased a dress she designed). “It comes from within your spirit. You put out something, when you make something. You put your spirit into it, and you give it life. And that’s something I see in Bethany’s work.”

Yellowtail says that her design work “transcends normal fashion shows because of what we’re trying to tell through our clothing and our stories.” She uses tradition, history and her own lineage as a jumping-off point to create something new and distinct. “I’m from the Northern Crow and Cheyenne nations. This collection is inspired by old-style Crow and Plains beadwork. I love floral designs from the early 1900s, and a lot of our beadwork and traditional designs were influenced by that.”

Everybody’s fave LGBTQ icon the Babadook has gotten a faaaaaaabulous drag makeover in this super-fun new music video by New Jersey drag queen Pissi Myles.

“I think queer people have always identified with the isolation and power of the monster or villain in a horror movie, especially when they’re as fabulous as Babadook. As a gay person, there have always been people who made me feel like my actions were wrong or evil, when I knew that I was just pursuing my goals and desires. While many movie villains actually do have bad intentions, I’ve always had an understanding for the villain and their plight for understanding.”

“Babashook” was co-written by Myles and Topher Cusumano, with an original track by producer B. Ames. The video was directed by Joe la Scola with drag photographer David Ayllon serving as creative director.

July 1st: It’s YOUR Birthday, Bitch!

#BornThisDay: Actor, Farley Granger

Granger

July 1, 1925– Farley Granger:

“I never felt the need to belong to any exclusive, self-defining or special group. I find it difficult to answer questions about “‘gay life” in Hollywood when I was living and working there. There were, of course, gay cliques, but I had no close friends who belonged to any of them, and I had no desire to become involved with any of them . . . I was never ashamed, and I never felt the need to explain or apologize for my relationships to anyone.”

I recently was sacked out on my sofa as I watched back-to-back Hitchcock films on TCM. I thought I had seen all of Alfred Hitchcock’s Hollywood films, and most of his British silent films and early talkies, but I had somehow missed Marnie from 1964. I finally watched this movie in amazement and afterwards I felt I needed to put together a post on my impressions of this nutty psychological thriller about a frigid and fragile person, who is raped by Sean Connery, but then I thought: “Why, when I live it every day?” Immediately following Marnie, I caught Rope (1948). I am always up for a little Farley Granger.

Granger had a career on stage and on screen from the early 1940s into our new century. He is especially noted for starring in a pair of films Hitchcock with legendary homosexual subtext: Rope and Strangers On A Train (1951).

His first starring role in They Live By Night (1948), directed by bi-sexual Nicholas Ray, is probably my favorite of his film performances. Granger’s sensitive portrayal of a bank robber on the lam grabbed the attention of Hitchcock. While preparing to shoot Rope, a film inspired by the notorious Leopold and Loeb murder case, Hitchcock had the great idea to cast Granger. He chose as Granger’s co-star, John Dahl, whose gayness was also well known in Hollywood. They play a pair of affluent young men who set out to commit a “prefect murder” just for the thrill.

The two characters sexuality is never made explicit in the film, but the relationship between the young men has an extra strong dose of homoerotic subtext, skillfully sewn together by Hitchcock and his actors. The film is famous for its continuous, uninterrupted 10-minute takes, the amount of time a reel of Technicolor film lasted. It was a difficult feat and Hitchcock ran into numerous technical problems which frequently brought the action to a halt throughout the short 21 day shoot. I find Rope to be a brilliant film, and not just as a technical marvel. It is probably Hitchcock’s talkiest movie. It also seems underappreciated by film fans, never on any list of Hitchcock’s greatest, but the time is long overdue for it to be appreciated as a masterpiece of suspense and art.

Three years after starring in Rope, Granger again worked with Hitchcock in another classic thriller about a perfect murder, Strangers On A Train, based on the first novel by acclaimed lesbian writer Patricia Highsmith, author of The Talented Mr. Ripley and a series of other Ripley books, plus the groundbreaking romance novel The Price of Salt, adapted to film as Carol (2015). Hitchcock was dissatisfied with the end result of Strangers On A Train, but it proved to be an unlikely box-office hit and the first major success of Granger’s career. It remains one of my favorite of Hitchcock’s films.

Granger had affairs with both men and women. Unlike most other actors who were gay or bisexual, Granger refused to get married just to keep film fans off-guard. When producer Samuel Goldwyn took him to task for dating gay composer Aaron Copland, Granger declared:

“Copland is one of the most important composers in America and a gentleman. I met him at this studio when you hired him to write the score for The North Star. I’m not going to be told who I can or cannot see in my private life.”

Granger had flings with Leonard Bernstein, writer Arthur Laurents, and actor Robert Walker, and he remained close friends with all three of them until each of their deaths. I like that. I remain friends with most of my liaisons. It’s so civilized.

In 1995 Granger was one of the actors interviewed for Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman’s ground-breaking documentary The Celluloid Closet (1995), discussing the depiction of homosexuality in film, in particular, Rope and Strangers On A Train.

“I never hid. I never considered myself in the closet. When I had my relationship with Arthur Laurents during the filming of Rope, all of my friends knew about it. We went out to dinner together and went to parties together. It was the crowd we hung out with – it was a New York music and theatre crowd. None of those people cared a fig about whom you were having sex with.”

Granger was a profoundly good-looking guy and an actor of considerable range and style: Broadway, films, musicals, light comedies, dramas and film noir. He made more than 50 films and he worked in a dozen Broadway shows, plus daytime soap operas on television. Laurents:

“As striking as Farley’s looks were, he seemed unaware of them. Once you knew him, what you marveled at was his sweetness. He was generous with praise for his peers and with presents for friends, as though he himself wasn’t enough to give.”

Granger (L) with Calhoun and dogs in 1972. Photograph courtesy of Farley Granger

I find him to be the epitome of how to age with class and distinction. He was in a 49 year romantic partnership with producer Robert Calhoun who left this world in 2008. The couple lived in the same Greenwich Village apartment for all those decades. I said hello to them once on a spring day in 1977 when I was on my way to an acting class at HB Studios. The three of us chatted on the sidewalk for a moment about acting schools. He mentioned that he had also studied at the Actors Studio along with his BFF Shelly Winters. At the time he was in his early 50s, and I must say, Granger was just about the handsomest man I had ever laid eyes on.

You really should read Granger’s dishy memoir, deliciously titled Include Me Out (2007).

“I looked forward to the time when I could be myself. And, that’s how I have lived and still continue to live my life. Fortunately, it has been many years since I felt the need to be secretive.”

Granger took his final bow in the same week as Elizabeth Taylor in spring of 2011.

#HappyBirthday: At 101, Olivia de Havilland Sues Ryan Murphy Over Her Portrayal in “Feud”

Today is the 101st birthday, of two-time Oscar-winner Olivia de Havilland and she just announced that she is suing FX and producer Ryan Murphy over the unauthorized use of her identity in Feud: Bette and Joan.

According to the L.A. Times, her attorneys filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against FX Networks, LLC and Ryan Murphy Productions,

“based on the unauthorized commercial use of Dame Olivia’s name and identity in the FX hit series.

Miss de Havilland was not asked by FX for permission to use her name and identity and was not compensated for such use. Further, the FX series puts words in the mouth of Miss de Havilland which are inaccurate and contrary to the reputation she has built over an 80-year professional life, specifically refusing to engage in gossip mongering about other actors in order to generate media attention for herself.

“A living celebrity has the right to protect her name and identity from unauthorized, false, commercial exploitation under both common law and the specific ‘right to publicity’ statute in California. FX was wrong to ignore Miss de Havilland and proceed without her permission for its own profit.”

Catherine Zeta-Jones, who played de Havilland in the series was asked whether she had ever met her,

“No, I didn’t, unfortunately. I was going to try and get to see her. I was in the south of France this last summer. Then, unfortunately, there was the horrible tragedy that happened there in Nice, so I didn’t get the chance to.”

Ms. De Havilland is no stranger to lawsuits. In 1943, she filed a landmark lawsuit against Warner Bros. that resulted in the collapse of the binding long-term contract studio system and put the de Havilland Law on the books.

Her team plans to file a motion seeking an expedited trial date because of de Havilland’s age. (via L.A. Times)

Kendall and Kylie Jenner’s new “vintage” Rap vs Rock tees are a line introduced by the sisters as part of their latest Kendall + Kylie collection. The T-shirts are a limited edition capsule collection that will sell for $125 each.

The shirts feature photos of Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Metallica, Pink Floyd and the late Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac with “K.K.” initials overprinted. One features Kendall’s Instagram pic over a photo of Biggie and his mom, Voletta Wallace, was NOT too happy about it and took to Instagram to tell them,

“I am not sure who told @kyliejenner and @kendalljenner that they had the right to do this. The disrespect of these girls to not even reach out to me or anyone connected to the estate baffles me. I have no idea why they feel they can exploit the deaths of 2pac and my Son Christopher to sell a t-shirt. This is disrespectful, disgusting, and exploitation at its worst!!!”

Kendall apologized on Twitter for herself and her sister.

“These designs were not well thought out and we deeply apologize to anyone that has been upset and/or offended, especially to the families of the artists. We are huge fans of their music and it was not our intention to disrespect these cultural icons in anyway. The tee shirts have been pulled from retail and all images have been removed. We will use this as an opportunity to learn from theses mistakes, and again we are very sorry.”

Kendal ha posted a pic of Biggie in April that got a lot of comments after the tee controversy. And Twitter was quick to react too, with Sharon Osbourne, a bonafide rock star wife/manager chiming in,

“Girls, you haven’t earned the right to put your face with musical icons. Stick to what you know…lip gloss.”

Ouch. Ya burnt! What do you think? Are the Jenner girls being disrespectful and trying to cash in on others’ fame or are they just paying homage to their rock and rap heroes? Tell us on Facebook?

A music coordinator, named Kylie, at a station claiming “over 100,000 unique listeners each month” wrote to Annie Lennox on Facebook to say,

“I came across your music on line and really like what I heard! I find artists who I think have potential and get them in rotation on our station.

If you’d like, please send over the MP3 for your latest single. I’ll forward it to Glenn our program director here to see if he’s interested in putting it in rotation.”

FYI, Lennox, has had a gold and two double-platinum albums in the U.S. as a solo artist and three gold and three platinum albums, and one double-platinum album, as a member of Eurythmics. The four-time Grammy-winner and 15-time nominee said on Facebook,

“I think I’m in with a chance ??!!!”

Annie added to the post,

“Whilst it’s obviously a bit of fun sharing the email I received telling me I had ‘potential'” sadly up and coming musicians are sent these kinds of scams every day. My digital team receive hundreds of them every year.

I’d urge any new (or indeed established) artists to send that kind of email straight to your trash. Companies reaching out cold to help you, sending emails that are clearly formulaic with links asking for cash to upload your tracks are a very dodgy business indeed and not one I want to see anyone fall foul of”

What she said.

But DO keep at it Annie, you’ll make it someday –Kylie likes your stuff!!

Sweet dreams!

July 2, 1984– John Garvin Weir:

“Love myself I do. Not everything, but I love the good as well as the bad. I love my crazy lifestyle, and I love my hard discipline. I love my freedom of speech and the way my eyes get dark when I’m tired. I love that I have learned to trust people with my heart, even if it will get broken. I am proud of everything that I am and will become.”

In February 2014, I was in my fourth month of cancer treatment. I don’t know if you kids are savvy to the ways of chemotherapy. I hope you never have to experience this wonder of the medical world. I did lose 50 pounds on the Amazing Cancer Diet, but it left me without strength, appetite, libido or interest in the subjects I love the most: television, books, films, music, whiskey, and shirtless male film stars. I was on a morphine drip and I initially I thought the drugs were making me hallucinate because each day I would turn on the television to catch the Winter Olympic Games in SochiRussia because I have always had a grade A Olympic fever. There on the screen were Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski all dressed up in the craziest outfits, giggling their way through some sort of skating commentary. I felt like I was off my rocker. It could not possibly be real.

The two-time Olympian Weir spent each day of those Winter Olympics in Russia hurling fairy dust and sequins in Vladimir Putin’s homophobic face while announcing the figure skating for NBC Sports. I really did think that I might be hallucinating as this transcendent couple babbled on about flutzes, death spirals and camel-toes while providing the very best possible fashion show.

It seems nutty to me, but Figure Skating’s gay angle is rarely publicly discussed in the sports world or its commentary. It has been complicated long before Weir came on the scene. Who would have guessed that there were homo skaters? Weir didn’t come out of the closet until he had left the sport. So when Weir, who, at the time, was married to a man of Russian descent, was on television behaving as flamboyantly gay as he pleased in Sochi, his implied political message was as brave as it was fun.

When Weir competed in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver BC, he was made to endure many derogatory comments about his implied gayness and even the question of his gender. Some sports writers speculated that Weir did not receive a medal that year, even with excellent technical scores, because of his crazy costume and music choices, and his on the ice attitude. Weir responded:

“I’ve heard worse in bathrooms. I don’t want 50 years from now more young boys and girls to have to go through this sort of thing.”

But he wasn’t always so forthright. In 2006, Weir stated:

“I don’t feel the need to express my sexual being because it’s not part of my sport & it’s private. I can sleep with whomever I choose and it doesn’t affect what I’m doing on the ice.”

In January 2011, he changed his position:

“With people killing themselves and being scared into the closet, I hope that even just one person can gain strength from my story. In a sexual way, I’m gay.”

In his memoir Welcome To My World (2011) Weir writes:

“I’m not ashamed to be me. More than anyone else I know, I love my life & accept myself. What’s wrong with being unique? I am proud of everything that I am and will become.”

About the controversy over his decision to work at the Sochi Games rather than join a boycott:

“I risk jail time just going there, but the Olympics are not the place to make a political statement. I’m not a politician and I don’t really talk about politics. You don’t have to agree with the politics, but you have to respect the culture of a country you are visiting.”

“It’s pretty obvious that I’ve been gay my whole life. I don’t need to break any laws or wear a rainbow pin to show people that I support gay rights. I think I’ll do that just by being in Sochi and supporting our people there & letting them know they are not alone.”

“The gay community has not reacted well to me because some people think it’s my responsibility to be an activist. They’re expecting me to hate Russia because I haven’t been given equal rights in Russia. If it’s good enough for Elton John, it’s good enough for me. Every country’s going to have its issues.”

Weir has provided some of his own choreography for his routines and designed his own skating costumes, plus he has designed Ice Dancing costumes for Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov, along with costumes for skaters Oksana Baiul and Yuzuru Hanyu.

In 2010 Weir started his own fashion label, Be Unique. He has appeared in fashion spreads for Vanity Fair and Vogue, and he has walked the runway in shows for the fashion label Heatherette. He has been a terrific, smart and entertaining guest judge on World Of Wonder’s own RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Weir and Lipinski have continued on as NBC Sports correspondents, and perhaps most importantly, they continue with the over-the-top fashion that you just have to see to believe. The last time I saw the fun couple was at the 143rd Kentucky Derby in May. I was off the morphine, but it still felt like a drug trip. Last summer Weir and Lipinski covered fashion at the Olympics in Rio for NBC Sports. They now host Tara And Johnny, a podcast for NBC Sports, where the duo talks about sports and fashion, of course. Their other NBC duties have included providing commentary for the Super Bowl and the Purina Dog Show.

Weir served as one of Lipinski’s bridesmaids at her wedding to sports producer Todd Kapostasy in Charleston on June 24.

Weir is a World Competition medalist and three-time USA National Champion. I enjoyed getting to know him from his television series show Be Good Johnny Weir (2010-12). If you are still a bit icy about him, check out the documentary Pop Star On Ice (2008).

#TinyBloodyHands: 5 Reasons TRUMPCARE MURDERS LGBTQ PEOPLE (Call Your Congressman!)

No exaggeration. This is murder. This list of what will happen if the GOP new Healthcare bill passes by Unicorn Booty‘s Matt Baume is no joke. It’s bad.

1. Goodby Medicaid

People with HIV obtain health insurance through Medicaid more than through any other source. The Republican’s proposed bill would destroy Medicaid. According to the CBO, 32 million people are expected to lose coverage. In the previous system HIV positive people could not access Medicaid until their HIV progressed to AIDS.

Childless people will face additional challenges to getting Medicaid and LGBTQ people often have no children. They would be barred from obtaining care. Obamacare fixed that — Trumpcare breaks it.

2. Planned Parenthood Access Denied

The bill bans Medicaid repayments to Planned Parenthood — and that will be potentially disastrous for transgender Americans. For many, Planned Parenthood is the ONLY place they can gain access to medical care. People in rural settings will have almost nowhere to go if they don’t have access to local Planned Parenthood clinics.

Planned Parenthood is often the only place where people in remote areas can get HIV testing. VP Mike Pence caused a massive HIV outbreak as Gov of Indiana after the only available Planned Parenthood in one particular area was shut down by the state.

3. It Will Be MUCH Harder to Get Covered

The House version of the bill imposes a yearlong 30% surcharge on anyone who went two months without coverage. The Senate version is even worse, blocking people from insurance for six months if their coverage lapsed.

LGBTQ people have been disproportionately under-insured and Obamacare balanced that, in large part due to Medicaid. But that will go away too.

4. It’s Even MORE Expensive

Coverage costs will go up for everyone. Trumpcare does away with with the individual mandate that requires everyone to be covered. Young, healthy people will opt-out of the system and it will be flooded with people who need expensive care. So, premiums will go up.

LGBTQ seniors are especially screwed. They have special needs and will end up paying much more for much less coverage.

5. Wealthcare for the Rich

One group that will benefit from the GOP plan? The super-rich. Getting rid of the Medicaid expansion will allow for more tax breaks for the richest Americans. It is not a health care bill — it’s a tax cut. Period.

Thanks, Trump Voters. Your President is obsessed with blood. If this bill passes, you’ll have it on your hands too.

#RealEstatePorn: Married Couple PJ & Thomas Are Bringing Sexy To HGTV with “Down to the Studs”

Married couple PJ and Thomas McKay are bringing their decorating and flipping skills (and the sexy) to HGTV with their new show, Down to the Studs, which just aired. The men flip houses in Chattanooga, Tennessee, of all places.

“The Property Lovers” are hoping the show’s a hit. Right now it’s in a test run so along with other HGTV pilots, they are competing for ratings and social media engagement.

Given the network’s history with anti-LGBTQ hosts, they could use a gay hit. Remember that Chip and Joanna Gaines of Fixer Upper went to a church that opposed LGBTQ rights, and Flip It Forward, a show starring anti-gay twins David and Jason Benham, got pulled.

The pilot will re-air soon, check your listings and you can show your support in the meantime by using the hashtag #HGTVDowntotheStuds on social media. And if you like cute guys and a married couple talking about farting in front of each other, you’ll love this YouTube Q&A below.

Watch.

Well, there it is! The "secret project" y'all have heard us go on and on about over the last year and a half has finally come out! Keeping this from y'all has been so hard but we wanted to make sure we were giving you the best product that we could. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into making this show for you guys and we just want to say thank you, thank you, thank YOU. We have been reading every comment, hashtag, and tweet that you guys have put out there and the support is honestly overwhelming us with gratitude and thankfulness. We are proud to call each and every one of you our friends. If you want to know how you can continue to help us, you can still comment and tweet your support on @HGTV's Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook pages with the hashtags #DowntotheStuds or #HGTVDowntotheStuds, letting them know why you want to see more of this show. It is very important and will make all the difference on whether or not there's more episodes of Down to the Studs. It was such an honor to get to air during pride month and to show the world how strong of a community we are 🌈. This is for you guys. We wouldn't be here without you ❤️ #HGTV #pridemonth #LGBTQ

The next airing of #DownToTheStuds is 15 days away! Monday, July 17th at 1pm/12pm C on HGTV! We know most of you will probably be at work at that time, so it's very important that y'all record/DVR the episode and watch it the same day! Because we only had about 20 hours to promote the show last time, we didn't get the ratings we needed to get a full season, so this episode is the most important to watch! If the ratings aren't good this time, there won't be any more episodes of Down to the Studs. Oh, and it's also very important that you watch the episode all the way through! HGTV cares more about retaining viewers the whole way through the episode than anything. LGBTQIA representation matters on TV, so tune in if you would like to see a full season! Thank you guys so much for your support, we love you y'all too much ❤️ #HGTVDowntotheStuds #hgtv @HGTV #LGBTQIA #representationmatters

Today is the day! Our pilot "Down to the Studs" airs today at 2p EST on HGTV! It's so important that you guys watch, record, and tweet your support for this show, and be sure to tag HGTV with "@HGTV"!! We have worked so so so hard on this entire project for over a year and a half and are beyond excited for y'all to finally see the finished product. If this show succeeds, it could be huge for the LGBTQ community because this is the first show of its kind on HGTV. And again, how cool is it that it gets to air during pride month?! We want to thank y'all from the bottom of our hearts for supporting us this whole time and we hope y'all tune in and enjoy the show. We love you ❤️🌈 @hgtv #hgtvdowntothestuds #downtothestuds #hgtv #husbands

#ArtDpt: “Torso” by Étienne-Barthélémy Garnier

Torso (1788)

Étienne-Barthélémy Garnier (1759 -1849)

Garnier was the son and the grandson of cabinet-makers to the aristocracy. He was born in Paris. He received first prize in the Prix de Rome in 1788 with his painting The Death Of Tatius, winning over his boyfriend Louis Girodet. That had to have been awkward. Girodet and Garnier lived in Rome until 1793.

He was elected member of the Academy Of Fine Arts in 1816. He exhibited many paintings during his lifetime. His painting Éponine Et Sabinus (1810) was acquired by King Louis XVIII. In 1824, he delivered the eulogy at the funeral of Girodet.
