Oliver Stone Drinks the Russian Kool-Aid, Goes On Colbert to Spout Pro-Putin Inanities

$

This is just vomitous nonsense. Absolute twaddle. Formerly respected director Oliver Stone goes onto the Colbert Show to try and gin up some interest in his upcoming Putin interview. And if you thought Megyn Kelly cozied up to the brutal dictator, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Stone has the absolute nerve to say he respects the “socially conservative” (!!!!!) leader who simply wants the best for his nation. The audience groans, then out-right guffaws at his pathetic pandering. Colbert rightly calls him on his Trumpian idiocy. Stone bristles but stands his ground. It’s all absolute HERESY! TREASON! SEND HIS ASS TO RUSSIA IF HE LOVES IT SO MUCH!

Apparently there was A LOT more to the interview that didn’t make the cut, either due to the fact that it was too controversial or because he was third and final guest and they went into overtime. Anyway, TJ Miller, another guest, went on a Twitter tirade about what went down (that has since been removed). Read it below, then watch the interview.

All this normalizing of idiots and democracy-killers in the media is absolutely terrifying.

“Mr Gay Syria” Doc Highlights LGBTQ Abuses in War-Torn Counry

Ayse Topeka’s new documentary depicts the lives of gay and bisexual Syrians in Istanbul as they compete for a place in the Mr Gay World competition and “makes a persuasive case that visibility is a vital weapon in the fight against oppression.”

Via The Guardian:

Toprak’s film presents the lives of a handful of the contestants, all of them refugees living in Istanbul, as they prepare for the big event. The main focus is on Hussein, a hairdresser who is closeted from his family and has the added complication of an infant daughter. There is also Omar, an infectiously jolly cook, and Wissam, who plans to win over the judges with a combination of Minnie Mouse ears, heels and hot pants. Such tomfoolery serves a vital function. Though the picture begins with a Gay Pride parade being violently disrupted by police, the instances of oppression and homophobia are outnumbered by scenes depicting matter-of-factly the lives of these resilient men who have, as Hussein puts it, arrived at courage by way of despair. “The contest itself was really celebratory,” says Toprak. “It’s part of their struggle that they want to laugh and have fun in order to stay alive. Everyone in that room felt proud of who they were.”

The pageant is a defiant stand against ISIS, who have killed countless gay men by throwing them off the top of buildings in Syria.

Speaking to the Daily Mail from Istanbul, where he has sought sanctuary, the newly crowned Mr Gay Syria Hussein Sabat insisted he hates the terror group more than he is scared of them.

‘I want to show that Syrian gays are not just bodies thrown off buildings by ISIS; we have dreams and ideas and we want to live our lives. Of course we were nervous but we we’re excited – we all wanted to be Mr Gay Syria to do something empowering,’ he said.

The 24-year-old knows firsthand the pain and terror of Isis – his first boyfriend was beheaded by the terror group and the execution video sent to family and friends.

Unfortunately, Hussein couldn’t represent Syria at the Mr Gay World competition in Malta because he was denied a visa.

My happiness was not complete,’ he said. ‘It was a wonderful title but then I found out on my birthday that they had denied my visa.’

The winner was due to fly to Malta day after he was given the crushing news and had already had a make over in preparation for the big event, which they had hoped would highlight the plight of gay Syrian refugees.

A reluctant stand in, event organizer Mahmoud Hassino was determined that his country would be represented and while he gave it his best he dropped out on the third day – not keen to take part in the swimwear challenge.

‘Mahmoud went to represent everybody – but he quit on the third day because he said it wasn’t for him – he’s a spokesman, and it’s not his way of doing activism. All the competitors were very supportive of him and more than willing to let him join in when he wanted,’ said Bradley covered the competition in Malta.

All of the Syrian competitors remain in Istanbul, apart from one who smuggled himself to Greece before the March 20th deadline agreed between the EU and Turkey.
For Hussein, he will spend the year fighting for LGBT rights in Syria and beyond.

‘We need to be more public about our sexuality so we can demand our rights. I can’t give advice because some people just can’t leave Syria,’ he said sadly.
‘I think we would have been an inspiration to them if we had been able to go to the final in Malta, but now… I don’t know.’

It was Michelle Visage to the rescue when doctor’s orders prevented Sharon Stone from emceeing the Drever Family Foundation’s annual Hotbed gala in Tiburon, California.

Stone was expected to emcee the super-prestigious gala with Kinky Boots star Todrick Hall, but when that couldn’t happen, Hall rang The Lady Visage.

Via Page Six:

“She dropped everything, packed a bag and flew to San Francisco. She said, ‘OK, I’m here to help. What can I do?’ ” an insider told us.

That’s our girl!

Country legend Tanya Tucker [was also there and] performed “Amazing Grace” and was the life of the after-party. “She was in great spirits, gushing over her horses to guests,” a spy said.

These Wandering Handmaids Are Creeping Everyone Out in Los Angeles

Red-robed handmaids from the hit series The Handmaid’s Tale have been spotted walking in Los Angeles, WeHo, and Beverly Hills ahead of the series’ season finale Wednesday. It’s all part of an Emmys “for your consideration” campaign by Hulu, and it’s been weirding everyone the eff out.

Via LA Times:

“Looks like some handmaids are having lunch at the Beverly Wilshire,” real estate agent Heather T. Roy wrote in a caption on a video of a few handmaids walking past the awnings of the famous hotel (and movie location).

Hulu’s handmaids have appeared elsewhere previously, including in April at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, where author Margaret Atwood spoke. According to the Hollywood Reporter, some of the handmaids — in total this time around there were 38, split into half a dozen groups — were asked to leave the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Hollywood Forever Cemetery because those facilities were not affiliated with the streaming network or the show.

“It was fun to creep people out for the #HULUFYC,” actress Gabriela Ortega said on Instagram. She definitely wasn’t the only one having fun.

LA-based/Native American fashion designer Bethany Yellowtail creates clothing combining traditional Native American representation with contemporary silhouettes, “that all walks of life can wear and enjoy.”

From The LA Times:

“I realized there is so much [cultural appropriation] going on that I decided I am not even going to get mad anymore, but I decided I was going to do something about it,” Yellowtail said in a recent interview with The Times. “Ultimately, I want to let my work become a learning opportunity and design pieces with cultural integrity.”

Yellowtail, who hails from the Crow Nation and Northern Cheyenne Indian reservations in southeastern Montana, moved to Los Angeles in 2007 to study fashion design. She graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in 2009.

In 2014 she started her fashion label in L.A. The brand celebrates her heritage and ancestral tradition through the creation of dresses, tops, skirts, pants and accessories that bear patterns and motifs such as the elk tooth and Crow rose prints that are adaptations from the Northern Plains tribe’s original prints. The re-imagined fabrics are then paired with modern silhouettes such as off-the-shoulder tops, wrap dresses and flare pants. B.Yellowtail releases new items about every month with prices ranging from $50 to $1,500. Yellowtail’s line is available online at www.byellowtail.com.

#RIP: Model, Actress, Rolling Stones’ Muse, Anita Pallenberg

With Brian Jones

Anita Pallenberg, actress, model and former girlfriend of the Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards has died of unknown causes.

Pallenberg was born in Rome on Jan. 25, 1944 to German parents and was expelled from boarding school at age 16. She spent time in Rome and New York ande was part of Andy Warhol’s Factory scene. She lived in Paris became a model and in ’65, she and a friend went to a Rolling Stones concert in Munich where she met manager Brian Jones.

Keith Richards wrote in his autobiography, Life,

My first impression was of a woman who was very strong. I was right about that. Also an extremely bright woman, that’s one of the reasons she sparked me. Let alone that she was so entertaining and such a great beauty to look at. Very funny. Cosmopolitan beyond anyone I’d come across. She spoke three languages. She’d been here, she’d been there. It was very exotic, to me.

In 1979, a 17-year-old boy, Scott Cantrell, shot himself in the head with a gun owned by Keith Richards, while in Pallenberg’s bed, at the South Salem, New York house shared by Richards and Pallenberg. The youth had been employed as a part-time groundskeeper at the estate and was involved in a sexual relationship with Pallenberg. The death was eventually ruled a suicide.

In 1981, after Richards and Pallenberg had split up, Richards stated that he still loved Pallenberg and saw her as much as he ever did, although he had already met his future wife Patti Hansen.

Pallenberg appeared in more than a dozen films over a forty-year span. Most notably, as The Great Tyrant in Roger Vadim‘s 1968 cult-classic sci-fi film Barbarella, and as the sleeper wife of Michel Piccoli in the film Dillinger Is Dead (1969), directed by Marco Ferreri.

Pallenberg appeared in a 1968 documentary about the Rolling Stones, Sympathy for the Devil, directed by French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard. In a March 2007 interview, she related her encounters in Rome in 1960, while La Dolce Vita was being filmed, with Italian filmmakers such as Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti and Pier Paolo Pasolini

In 1985, for the video of Wild Boys, Duran Duran used the clip of Pallenberg from Barbarella.

Actress Stella Schnabel, the daughter of artist Julian Schnabel, wrote on Instagram.

I have never met a woman quite like you Anita. I don’t think there is anybody in this universe like you. No one has ever understood me so well. You showed about life and myself and how to grow and become and exist with it all. I was a little girl thinking I was big but I became a woman through knowing you. The secret lyrical you. My best friend. The greatest woman I have ever known. Thank you for the most important lessons – because they are ever changing and definitive. Like you. We are all singing for you, how you liked it. Go in peace my Roman mother, you will always be in my heart.

Anita Pallenberg was 73.

In the mid-90s, wowlebrity Laura Kightlinger had a World of Wonder cable show called TV Pizza in which interviewed classic television stars such as Tammy Faye Baker, Barbara Eden, Linda Blair, and Charlene Tilton. We dug up an old 1997 episode from the vault in which she sits down with  Adam West, tries on the legendary bat cowl, and listens as he regales her with the time he and Frank Gorshin (The Riddler) were kicked out of a Hollywood Hills orgy for acting like their TV counterparts. Sigh. What a guy. He will definitely be missed.

First Look at Matt Bomer Playing a Transgender Sex Worker in “Anything”

$
0
0

Cis-gendered star Matt Bomer‘s ill-advised turn as a trans woman – and a sex worker, to boot! – in the upcoming Anything, gets a trailer. Watch below.

In the movie, which is based on a play by Timothy McNeil, John Carroll Lynch plays a man who is suicidal over the death of his wife. He moves from Mississippi to Los Angeles, to be with his protective sister, Laurette (Maura Tierney), and begins an intense new friendship with Freda (Bomer), a transgender sex worker. The unlikely new couple must reconcile their vastly different backgrounds as they fill the void in each other’s lives.

Says executive producer Mark Ruffalo:

“I’m very happy to be part of this daring project. Love is at the essence of great storytelling and transcends all discrimination and politicization.”

Of course, casting a Cis male to play a trans woman is raaaaather problematic these days, as internet commenters are all too happy to tell you. Not to mention the fact that the trans woman is a sex worker and a drug addict. Because OF COURSE SHE IS. A few examples of the fury the movie’s announcement provoked:

“Casting a cis man to play a trans woman is already an issue, and it’s not good to see trans actors continually marginalized in Hollywood while literal men are cast to play literal women.”

“Excuse me while I vomit. Just what we need, more cis guys playing trans women. And she’s a sex worker and a drug addict because what else do trans women do with their lives? Didn’t y’all get this out of your systems with Dallas Buyer’s Club? How many more of these pieces of shit do we have to endure?”

“Oh for shits sake, this isn’t “daring” is creative masturbation. Stop with the tired trans women = sex worker trope already. Also, there are lots of great Trans women actors, how about not discriminating against them just to hire some random cis-het-bot.”

“What can I say about this that hasn’t been said a million times?
– Cis-male playing transgender women is offensive in most situations.
– Transgender women being protrade as drug addicted sex-workers is lazy writing that relies and outdated tropes.”

“The last paragraph of this story is the most revealing of all:
“Some may see Ruffalo’s comment above as an attempt to head off possible criticism about casting the cisgender Bomer in a transgender role, and also possible stereotyping around the fact the trans character is a sex worker.”
– This seems to imply that those behind the film KNOW that what they are doing is going to be offensive to the transgender community, yet are moving forward anyway.”

“It’s a bit early to know if these will become issues, but there’s no doubt it’s good to see more trans characters in film.”
– While I understand that increased transgender representation in film can be a good thing, we already have dozens of films telling this exact same story, using the exact same offensive and outdated tropes. I would, personally, rather that they just didn’t make films like this, because they ARE NOT helpful to the transgender community whatsoever.”

“this is bullshit. hire actual transexual actors it’s not that hard”

“Hollywood is so precious about acting. The way it’s held in such high regard is nauseating. Kids and unknown actors do well all the time, sometimes without any training. So, so much for the “we hired the best actor” argument. And it’s not exactly like Matt Bomer is Daniel Day-Lewis or Meryl Streep.”

“Matt, Jared, Eddie…this looks like it’s becoming a trend for cis men to “bravely” take up those roles and then get pats on the back and Oscar nods for it while actual trans women barely get jobs as actresses and can be murdered simply for existing. Fuck tired-ass, faux-progressive hollywood tbh”

#LGBTQ: Chadwick Moore Claims, “Most Gay People Aren’t Political… They Care About Pop Music & Going To the Beach.” Watch

Chadwick Moore is the gay writer who penned OUT‘s Milo Yiannopoulos profile that everyone hated so much.

Moore was recently invited to once again talk with Tucker Carlson. This time, Moore was a guest to discuss a vigil that took place at Stonewall Inn to remember the 49 people killed in the Pulse massacre, which was organized by Gays Against Guns. The invitation described the event as,

“a solemn and joyfully defiant experience as we remember the tragedy that brought the fight for gun violence prevention directly into our LGBTQ nightlife community. on the one-year anniversary of the Pulse massacre in Orlando, in which Omar Mateen murdered 49 people.”

Moore attended the vigil and said when asked if the vigil “became something else?” he responded,

That’s right. I think most people showed up, the Stonewall is sort of gay, it’s a gay holy site, right. It’s the equivalent of Mecca for Muslims. It’s where everyone goes when there’s a large event that has affected the community, whether that’s tragic or celebratory. It’s where people would have instinctively shown up to commemorate the one-year anniversary. What happened is this far left anti-gun group essentially got the permit, I’m assuming, to hold a rally that day, outside, yesterday outside of Stonewall. They were the sponsors of this event. So people who were coming to mourn, who were coming to be together to reflect, who wanted to give politics a break instead were being subjected to this sort of anti-gun propaganda, all of these signs, all of this anti-Trumpism.

Most gay people aren’t political. Most gay people, you know, they care about pop music and going to the beach. They probably don’t know what the Second Amendment is. And so they show up to be together, to celebrate the community, to mourn together and instead they are fed this anti-gun nonsense.”

Barf.

Watch. That is, if you can stand the sight, let alone the sounds coming out of his mouth.

Why don’t we just turn this into something positive, huh? Click here to find out more and if you want, to donate to Gays Against Guns. GAG!

Toot It or Boot It: Jaden Smith’s New “Batman” Music Video

$

I go back and forth with the Smith kids. Sometimes I find them to be annoying, over-privileged space cadets, other times the seem like genuine cultural influencers with something to say. I’m not quite sure where I land on Jaden‘s new music video “Batman” in which he plays both Bruce Wayne and a ghost-white Batman. It’s pretty bonkers, and weirdly visually striking, although the song itself is pretty standard.

Via StereoGum:

Last month, Netflix canceled The Get Down, its crazily expensive rap-prehistory melodrama. That leaves Jaden Smith, one of the show’s stars, unemployed. So he’s done what any deeply strange, overwhelmingly rich and famous young person would do if he suddenly found himself with time on his hands. He’s made a very silly music video in which he plays a tortured superhero.

Smith famously wore an all-white Batman costume to Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s wedding, and now he’s brought that suit out again in his music video for “Batman,” a song that’s a barely-disguised rewrite of Drake and Future’s “Jumpman.” In the clip, we see Jaden, in full Batman gear, attempting to brood, lurking above the Los Angeles skyline at the golden hour, and getting into dance-fights with other superhero-costumed lunatics on Hollywood Boulevard. Director Moises Arias is the guy who played Rico on Hannah Montana. It’s really something.

(Fun fact: Jaden Smith is now 18, which is the same age that his father was when DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince released “Girls Ain’t Nothing But Trouble.”)

Director Joel Schumacher Apologizes for “Batman & Robin” 20 Years Later: “It Was Like I Had Murdered a Baby”

$

0

It’s one of the most god-awful movies of all time, and one of the biggest bombs in Hollywood history. Even if you overlook the bat nipples and the ultra corny dialogue from Mr Freeze (“Ice to see you!”), Joel Schumacher‘s Batman & Robin is a muddled mess of too many plot lines, too many villains, and too many wtf moments to even consider it camp.

It HAS been 20 years, though, and recently Schumacher was asked by VICE to reflect on the anniversary of the debacle. His response? A big “mea culpa” to the fans.

“Look, I apologize. I want to apologize to every fan that was disappointed because I think I owe them that.”

Schumacher also talked a bit about his journey as a filmmaker to making Batman & Robin which seriously hurt his career, on par, he claims, with someone who had “murdered a baby.”

“You know, I just knew not to do a sequel. If you get lucky, walk away. But everybody at Warner Brothers just expected me to do one. Maybe it was some hubris on my part. I had a batting average of 1,000, so I went from falling down a bit after Lost Boys, to a kind of a genius with The Client, a big blockbuster with Batman Forever, then had great reviews with A Time to Kill, so my batting average was good. I never planned on being, that dreadful quote, “a blockbuster king” because my other films were much smaller and had just found success with the audience and not often with the critics, which is really why we wrote them. And then after Batman & Robin, I was scum. It was like I had murdered a baby.”

Ouch.

Says VICE:

Those are some pretty harsh words, but fans can be brutal. As Joel Schumacher explains, the Batman franchise has gone through some serious changes over the years and, back when he was making the movies, the audience was into something a bit lighter.

“I guess I’ll say, I hope no fans moved on from Batman upon first seeing my movie. When I was first approached to do Batman Forever, I said that it was Tim Burton’s franchise. At the time Danny Devito’s character with The Penguin was causing a ruckus among parents. Also, Michelle Pfeiffer with her fabulous bondage outfit didn’t help matters. People across America were objecting to everything. Tim, who is a great friend of mine, begged me to take the franchise. Because of the pressure and he was ready to walk away. What’s interesting to me is if you see Tim and my version, you can see how innocent viewers were back then. It’s really interesting to me is, because if you see Tim’s and my [films], you’d understand how innocent the audience was back then when it demanded to have more of a family-friendly Batman. Then when you see Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, the last one especially where he’s dealing with real class and economic problems, you see how the audience has changed in the fact that they can accept and want darker and darker subject matter.”

VICE also reminds readers: The movie did poorly at the box office, bringing in just $238 million against a $125 million production budget. Over on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a truly poor 11 percent approval rating from critics, with a 16 percent audience score. So it’s a nice gesture to fans for Joel Schumacher to make this apology. Just a matter of fans deciding to accept it or not.

May our new prince and princess be long-lived, happy and glorious, and one day reign over us, God Save the Queen!

Let us all take a moment and let the news wash over us. BREATHE, INTERNET. BREATHE.

Now. On to the pressing matter at hand: WHAT SHOULD BEY NAME HER LITTLE HEIRS?

I’ve heard calls for Red and Yellow Ivy, but what do YOU think?

#LGBTQPrideMustWatch: “Love! Valour! Compassion!”

Love! Valour! Compassion! owes a lot to the works of Anton Chekhov, and to films like Jean Renoir’s Rules Of The Game (1939), Ingmar Bergman’s Smiles Af a Summer Night ( 1955), Woody Allen’s A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy (1982),  and Lawrence Kasdan’s The Big Chill (1983); a group of friends gathers during the summer, a stranger upsets the dynamics of the group, people make love.

It is structured like a rather old fashioned three-act play, made fresh by the fact that all the characters are gay. It is gay playwright Terrence McNally’s story of a gathering of a group of friends on a June weekend at a country house. They gather again in July and again at the end of summer. In Act One, the characters are introduced and their problems are established. Act Two brings conflict and crisis. Act Three, truth is revealed and there is resolution; some of their relationships dissolve and some strengthen, and new ones are formed.

It is all very conventual; new ground is not broken. But, the specter of AIDS hangs over the story, which is one of the ways it makes it so different than Mart Crowley’s The Boys In The Band (1970), its spiritual cousin. Some of the characters are on their best behavior and others behave badly, and at the bittersweet ending, it is revealed who will die, who will live, who will live happily and who will be sorrowful and sorry. It is all sort of traditional.

Yet, Love! Valour! Compassion! is dynamic and penetrating. It is all about the characters and dialogue, filled with excellent performances.

The great Joe Mantello, directed the play Off-Broadway in 1994, and when it transferred to Broadway the next year, and here he makes his film directing debut. He is more focused on performances than visual flourishes, although it is a handsome movie. It is also touching record of gay life during second decade of the plague, but it also comes across as universal. That is its strength, I think.

At the start, the narrator, Gregory, a famous choreographer, played by Stephen Bogardus, gives a tour of his rambling old lakeside home. He’s proud of the architecture and the furnishings, saying: “I hope you appreciate the details”. Gregory lives there with his blind lover Bobby, played by Justin Kirk. Their guests include the caustic British composer John Jeckyll, played by the always excellent John Glover, and John’s new boyfriend Ramon (Randy Becker), who is a Latin hunk. There is also a Musical Theatre queen, Buzz (Jason Alexander); and a couple, Perry (Stephen Spinella) and Arthur (John Benjamin Hickey), who are celebrating their 14th anniversary.

Ramon becomes the catalyst for the drama. In an early scene, he encounters the blind Bobby feeling a tree, and then quietly puts himself in Bobby’s way. Soon the two of them are grappling in the kitchen at night, and when Bobby confesses his infidelity to Gregory, their relationship is put into turmoil. Ramon continues to find trouble, although he is not a bad person, just a young and more concerned with pleasure than commitment.

John’s and Ramon’s relationship is only about sex, John is a bitter misogynist who likes to be apart from others, smoking cigarettes and brooding. In the second part, his twin, James, arrives to join the group. Both characters are played by Glover, who won a Tony Award for his dual role on Broadway and gives the two best performances in the film. Both Jeckyll brothers are so perfectly acted that we easily see them individuals, even in their scenes together.

James is sweet, the twin that one everyone likes. John is bitter and caustic. John tells James: “You got the good soul, I got the bad one”. Later, he says: “What’s the secret of unconditional love? I’m not going to let you die with it.” It’s Alexander’s Buzz who finds and shares that secret, and the film’s sweetest scene is a hushed conversation on a shaded porch between Buzz and James.

The Boys In The Band, the first frank big studio movie about uncloseted gays, is all about how the characters ”became” gay, how they feel about being gay, and how they accept their gayness. It is a kind of group therapy session with cocktails. Love! Valour! Compassion! has no angst over its characters’ sexuality, their gayness isn’t an issue. It is simply how they love, or fail to love each other, not who they love.

As we have more and more television series where LGBTQ characters are not in conflict with their sexual identity, Boys In The Band plays as a period piece. Although Love! Valour! Compassion! is 20-years-old, it remains a touching, insightful film with themes we can all identify with: loneliness, jealousy, need, and generosity.

I give it an A. Love! Valour! Compassion! is a perfect Pride film experience.

YouTube Star Austin Jones Arrested on Child Pornography Charges (and It’s Not His First Time Getting Caught)

Emo-esque singer/YouTube phenomenon Austin Jones faces child pornography charges for allegedly instructing two 14-year-old female fans to send him sexually explicit videos of themselves. Each of the two counts of production of child pornography carries a minimum 15-year prison sentence.

Via THR:

Twenty-four-year-old Austin Jones of Bloomingdale, Ill., appeared Tuesday in a Chicago federal court wearing orange jail clothes and ankle chains. He said he understood the charges.

Jones was arrested Monday. A bond hearing was set for today. Prosecutors say they will oppose his release. Jones didn’t have his own lawyer Tuesday. He will enter a plea later.

This isn’t his first time getting caught soliciting videos from young girls, either.

Flashback 2015: Austin Jones Posts Apology for Requesting Videos from Minors After Getting Pulled from Warped Tour

In 2015, the popular YouTube singer came under fire after several fans accused him of lying about his age in order to get underage girls to send him twerking videos. A Change.org petition calling for Jones to be dropped from the Warped Tour lineup nearly reached its 10,000 signature goal, and when complaints about the singer eventually reached Kevin Lyman, the founder of Warped Tour, Lyman decided to pull Jones and all other YouTubers from his lineup.

Lyman then retracted his original statement but issued a follow-up statement reassuring concertgoers of a more stringent background check before allowing YouTubers to participate in that year’s tour.

“The word ‘pedophile’ is a strong, strong term,” he said at the time. “While the world can be screwed-up at times, there is a criteria for things. In the court of the Internet, people’s lives are being dragged out in front of the world with no due process. People throw very strong words out onto the Internet and when it is old news to them, it leaves a trail of destruction in other people’s lives. This country was built on the concept of ‘innocent until proven guilty.’ Are we going to go back to this Salem witch hunt mentality? Communication needs to happen. I am actively encouraging that If women and girls feel they are being victimized, tell your parents, go to the police, talk to counselors.”

In response to the controversy, Jones took to YouTube to issue an apology for his behavior, assuring fans that nothing happened beyond a few funky dance moves.

“Hi guys,” he kicks off the nearly 17-minute-long video. “I know a lot of you probably have some really harsh and negative opinions towards me right now, and I understand if you do. But I’m asking you to please put those opinions aside for a few minutes and listen to everything I have to say.”

The singer then goes on to admit that he “used to ask fans for twerking videos,” adding, “It’s not something that I’m proud of, it’s not something that I think is right and I shouldn’t have done it.”

But, Jones continues, “Nothing ever went further than twerking videos. There were never any nudes, never any physical contact, it never happened.”

In the apology video, Jones details the harsh circumstance of his upbringing that may have caused him to do what he had: the death of his older sister during his childhood, his estranged father’s drug and alcohol addiction and even his own history of self harm.

“All of these life events, all of these deaths, this loss, left me with really deep depression and I was an insecure depressed guy and I began searching for attention in the wrong ways, asking fans for those things,” he says. “It was because I was desperate for attention, I was desperate for reassurance, I wanted to feel good about myself. At the time I thought it was just fun and goofy. I was young, I was stupid, I wasn’t thinking clearly. Over time, I’ve began to see it was wrong and I shouldn’t have done it.”

Hmmm. Two times, your out, dude. No sympathy. No more chances.
