Stephen Hawking’s Dire Warning: “Humans Have 100 Years Left on Earth”

Cuddly physicist Stephen Hawking thinks doomsday is almost upon us, telling a new BBC documentary Expedition New Earth (airing on June 15) humans have just 100 years left on the planet — and we need to get off PRONTO!

Of course, this isn’t the first time Hawking has tried to light a fire under our asses.

Via WeForum:

In recent years, he’s warned about how super artificial intelligence (AI) would end humankind and how contacting extraterrestrial life would go bonkers for humanity. Then in November of last year, he said we have 1,000 years to leave Earth. Now, he’s cut it down to 100 — leaving us to wonder just how bad the past six months have been. They’d arguably have to have been pretty bad for Hawking to drastically cut our time on Earth by 900 years in one fell swoop.

Well, let’s see. There’s Trump, North Korea, climate change, asteroid strikes, epidemics, and overpopulation. And that’s just THIS WEEK’S problems. Hawking suggests we need to change planets, and fast.

A lot could happen in 100 years, and we’ve proven that we’re capable of discovering and developing many things within a century. But could we really go multi-planetary in that timeframe?

Tesla and SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk thinks so, and he’s already outlined plans to make it happen. The destination for humanity in his mind? Mars. And while the Red Planet isn’t exactly that near, neither is it too far. Musk intends to land people to Mars by 2025 and set up a colony by 2033 — which is well within Hawking’s timeline. However, reaching Mars and setting up a stable habitat could take a couple more decades at least. Fortunately, there are others working on it, too: NASA already has a program for getting to Mars, and China’s also working on its own mission to the Red Planet.

Save us, Elon!

Nico Tortorella Talks Polyamory, His Evolving Sexual Identity, & Thrift Shopping with Courtney Love

Scrumptious wowlebrity Nico Tortorella sat down with PrideSource to discuss, oh, just about everything under the sun. It’s a doozy of an interview – and you have to read it in full – but I’ve include a few choice excerpts below:

Your sexual identity has really evolved over the last year; In 2016, you revealed you were label-less and “emotionally fluid.” Then, you said you identify as bisexual.

I really like the term bisexual, and I fall somewhere under the umbrella that is bisexuality. I use the word bisexual because people have fought for so long for this word and the fact that it even exists in part of the LGBTI-etcetera is just a beautiful thing, and I’m not gonna be the person to take, like, fluidity or emotional fluidity or pansexual. I’m comfortable somewhere under the bisexual label, and I’m proud of it.

After you revealed that you’re open to dating men, did you hear from more gay male admirers?

I think it was actually more when I came into touch with my own sexuality – not in terms of who I prefer, but just me as a sexual being. I just became more aware of different energies.

When did you embrace your bisexuality?

Honestly, I think with the work that I’m doing on my podcast – really exploring sexuality as a human condition has educated me on many different people’s lives and the importance of labels and the unimportance of labels, for that matter. I’m in a really interesting place where I can talk about these things, but I’m really doing the work outside of myself on it.

Recently, on your Instagram, you posted a pic of you sporting a shirt that says, “The Future Is Non-Binary.” What’s the story behind that shirt?

I bought it when I was shooting the “Menendez” movie up in Vancouver at this little thrift store. And yes, the future is non-binary, but I am a hardcore believer that so is the past. It has been forever, but for whatever reason, during these past 300 years, we have – and it probably has to do with religion – created the binary. And listen, nothing else exists. But finally, over the last 50 years there’s been this amazing breakthrough and clearly now it is the zeitgeist. I’m just so fascinated by that whole story.

How do your views on sexuality influence the roles you choose as an actor? Are you looking for roles that challenge people’s views on sexuality?

Yeah, for sure. It’s a natural thing that happens once I put myself into the role, and those types of projects seem to be floating in my direction, which I’m all for. But I think as an actor it is my job to transform, and as obsessed as I am with the community and our stories and everything, I’m obsessed with people in all facets of life. It’s my job to become them. So, I really think that there’s always gonna be a whole slew of different characters I play.

Jacob Wells, your character on FOX’s serial-killer thriller “The Following,” enjoyed the company of both men and women. What was your read on his sexuality?

It’s funny – at that point in my life I had a boyfriend in L.A. and a girlfriend in N.Y. and it was pretty intensely life imitating art. Granted, we weren’t killing people (laughs), but I was living that and wasn’t comfortable with myself to the fullest extent probably because that was before I got sober. I was somewhat of a mess. But I was really navigating what that meant to have two lives, almost.

How have [the guests on your podcast] “The Love Bomb” enlightened you and your approach to your sexuality?

It really is an extension of who I am. My sexuality is a part of my story – it’s not all of my story – and to just normalize things that are deemed abnormal is really important. That’s my driving force at this point, so it affects everything that I do because it is me.

What was it like sitting down with Courtney Love for “The Love Bomb”?

I love her so much, and I’m just gonna open with that. The second we locked eyes and had, like, an exchange, it was magical. We’re kindred souls, and we spent a lot of time in Vancouver (shooting “Menendez” together). We went to a native-led sweat lodge and were just in interesting parts of our lives at the time and really opened up to each other. So, when it was time to sit down with a microphone – I mean, I felt like we were having the “Love Bomb” conversation for months before we even had the real conversation in the studio. It was amazing. We had gotten so close by that point that there wasn’t a wall, and she has such an incredible story. I mean, she’s an icon, she’s royalty. People are really gonna see a softer, human side to her that I think is just so lovely.

Did she go thrift shopping with you?

We did! We went shopping together a couple of times. She’s kind of like a gay man just in general, and I think she stands by that. I love that about her.

T.O.P. Update: His Mother Lashes Out at Media for Wrongful Reporting, Says He Might Have Brain Damage

Yesterday, when I reported that K-Pop superstar T.O.P. of the band BigBang had overdosed and was in the hospital fighting for his life, I was accused by more than few superfans of exaggerating the rumors and spreading #FAKENEWS. I argued that perhaps we shouldn’t take the official South Korean news sources at the word, as they miiiight be downplaying the situation. And that it seems like something the band’s notoriously over-protective management label YG Entertainment would do.

Today, a series of conflicting reports are surfacing about T.O.P .’s status.

Via DigitalMusicNews:

The Korean Herald said that TOP had overdosed on muscle relaxants and that he had regained consciousness. Police later confirmed that the rapper had overdosed on tranquilizers. Then, a police rep said that TOP had not lost consciousness at all; he merely fell asleep. The Big Bang rapper had taken anti-anxiety medicine, which had sleeping pill ingredients. Then, speaking with allkpop, another source said that the singer remained unconsciousness and may have suffered brain damage. With the hashtag #StayStrongTop, stunned and worried Big Bang superfans (or VIPs) waited for new developments.

Earlier today, doctors at the Ewha Womans University Medical Care held a press conference. With permission from the rapper’s mother, they explained TOP’s current medical condition. Referring to the rapper by his real name (Choi Seung-hyun), one doctor said,

“Choi’s condition is very bad.”

Another doctor told reporters,

“He has not fully recovered from lethargy and is unable to make normal eye contact.”

The doctor added that it could take a week for the rapper to recover.

Following initial news reports that the rapper merely slept, TOP’s mother slammed the media. Sharing a real update on his condition, his mother tearfully declared,

“My son is still unconscious and to read articles that say he’s “deep in sleep” is hurtful. Please edit and refrain from saying such things. We don’t know how things will turn out. My son is in critical condition. I see my son dying but I also see reports saying he’s just sleeping. Isn’t that wrongful reporting?”

Confirming an insider’s claim to allkpop, the Big Bang rapper’s mother stated that he may have suffered brain damage.

“Due to the lack of oxygen, he may have possible brain damage.”

Big Bang’s label YG Entertainment confirmed his mother’s statement. Revealing the true extent of his critical condition, YG said,

“When T.O.P’s mother saw the police quote she was furious. T.O.P is currently wearing an oxygen mask and he is unconscious. Visitation rights are restricted and only close relatives are looking over him.”

The alleged police source had told the media that the rapper hadn’t fallen asleep. He merely stayed in the intensive care unit for privacy. The “source” claimed,

“Reports that he is unconscious are not true, he is in a state of deep sleep due to sleep-inducing substances in his sedatives and the test results on his blood, urine, and CT all came back normal and the family has been notified.”

Cited by multiple South Korean media outlets, including Seoul News, the source said,

“T.O.P was responsive when pinched and called by his name he wasn’t carried when he was being transported to the hospital but someone was supporting him out.”

When pressed about why it took so long to get the Big Bang rapper to the hospital, the source explained,

“He was snoring and mumbling so we were trying to be considerate thinking that he was tired.”

TOP remains in critical condition. A team of doctors will continue monitoring his condition.

All of this comes on the heals of T.O.P.’s indictment for smoking marijuana four times. He was discharged from his mandatory military service to deal with his legal issues, but less than a day later after being  police found the rapper lying unconscious. From the police station, they rushed the rapper to a Seoul medical center yesterday.

James Comey’s Bombshell Statement Says Trump Asked Him To “Lift the Cloud” Hanging Over His Presidency

There’s not much to say. Below is former FBI director James Comey statement that was given. Read it. It is RIVETING!

Statement for the Record

Senate Select Committee on Intelligence
James B. Comey
June 8, 2017

Chairman Burr, Ranking Member Warner, Members of the Committee.

“Thank you for inviting me to appear before you today. I was asked to testify today
to describe for you my interactions with President-Elect and President Trump on
subjects that I understand are of interest to you. I have not included every detail
from my conversations with the President, but, to the best of my recollection, I
have tried to include information that may be relevant to the Committee.

January 6 Briefing
I first met then-President-Elect Trump on Friday, January 6 in a conference
room at Trump Tower in New York. I was there with other Intelligence
Community (IC) leaders to brief him and his new national security team on the
findings of an IC assessment concerning Russian efforts to interfere in the
election. At the conclusion of that briefing, I remained alone with the PresidentElect
to brief him on some personally sensitive aspects of the information
assembled during the assessment.

The IC leadership thought it important, for a variety of reasons, to alert the
incoming President to the existence of this material, even though it was salacious
and unverified. Among those reasons were: (1) we knew the media was about to
publicly report the material and we believed the IC should not keep knowledge of
the material and its imminent release from the President-Elect; and (2) to the
extent there was some effort to compromise an incoming President, we could blunt
any such effort with a defensive briefing.

The Director of National Intelligence asked that I personally do this portion
of the briefing because I was staying in my position and because the material
implicated the FBI’s counter-intelligence responsibilities. We also agreed I would
do it alone to minimize potential embarrassment to the President-Elect. Although
we agreed it made sense for me to do the briefing, the FBI’s leadership and I were
concerned that the briefing might create a situation where a new President came
into office uncertain about whether the FBI was conducting a counter-intelligence
investigation of his personal conduct.

It is important to understand that FBI counter-intelligence investigations are
different than the more-commonly known criminal investigative work. The
Bureau’s goal in a counter-intelligence investigation is to understand the technical
and human methods that hostile foreign powers are using to influence the United
States or to steal our secrets. The FBI uses that understanding to disrupt those
efforts. Sometimes disruption takes the form of alerting a person who is targeted
for recruitment or influence by the foreign power. Sometimes it involves
hardening a computer system that is being attacked. Sometimes it involves
“turning” the recruited person into a double-agent, or publicly calling out the
behavior with sanctions or expulsions of embassy-based intelligence officers. On
occasion, criminal prosecution is used to disrupt intelligence activities.

Because the nature of the hostile foreign nation is well known, counterintelligence
investigations tend to be centered on individuals the FBI suspects to
be witting or unwitting agents of that foreign power. When the FBI develops
reason to believe an American has been targeted for recruitment by a foreign
power or is covertly acting as an agent of the foreign power, the FBI will “open an
investigation” on that American and use legal authorities to try to learn more about
the nature of any relationship with the foreign power so it can be disrupted.
In that context, prior to the January 6 meeting, I discussed with the FBI’s
leadership team whether I should be prepared to assure President-Elect Trump that
we were not investigating him personally. That was true; we did not have an open
counter-intelligence case on him. We agreed I should do so if circumstances
warranted. During our one-on-one meeting at Trump Tower, based on President Elect Trump’s reaction to the briefing and without him directly asking the question, I offered that assurance.

I felt compelled to document my first conversation with the President-Elect
in a memo. To ensure accuracy, I began to type it on a laptop in an FBI vehicle
outside Trump Tower the moment I walked out of the meeting. Creating written
records immediately after one-on-one conversations with Mr. Trump was my
practice from that point forward. This had not been my practice in the past. I
spoke alone with President Obama twice in person (and never on the phone) —
once in 2015 to discuss law enforcement policy issues and a second time, briefly,
for him to say goodbye in late 2016. In neither of those circumstances did I
memorialize the discussions. I can recall nine one-on-one conversations with
President Trump in four months — three in person and six on the phone.

January 27 Dinner
The President and I had dinner on Friday, January 27 at 6:30 pm in the
Green Room at the White House. He had called me at lunchtime that day and
invited me to dinner that night, saying he was going to invite my whole family, but
decided to have just me this time, with the whole family coming the next time. It
was unclear from the conversation who else would be at the dinner, although I
assumed there would be others.

It turned out to be just the two of us, seated at a small oval table in the
center of the Green Room. Two Navy stewards waited on us, only entering the
room to serve food and drinks.

The President began by asking me whether I wanted to stay on as FBI
Director, which I found strange because he had already told me twice in earlier
conversations that he hoped I would stay, and I had assured him that I intended to.
He said that lots of people wanted my job and, given the abuse I had taken during
the previous year, he would understand if I wanted to walk away.

My instincts told me that the one-on-one setting, and the pretense that this
was our first discussion about my position, meant the dinner was, at least in part,
an effort to have me ask for my job and create some sort of patronage relationship.
That concerned me greatly, given the FBI’s traditionally independent status in the
executive branch.

I replied that I loved my work and intended to stay and serve out my tenyear
term as Director. And then, because the set-up made me uneasy, I added that
I was not “reliable” in the way politicians use that word, but he could always count
on me to tell him the truth. I added that I was not on anybody’s side politically
and could not be counted on in the traditional political sense, a stance I said was in
his best interest as the President.

A few moments later, the President said, “I need loyalty, I expect loyalty.”
I didn’t move, speak, or change my facial expression in any way during the
awkward silence that followed. We simply looked at each other in silence. The
conversation then moved on, but he returned to the subject near the end of our
dinner.

At one point, I explained why it was so important that the FBI and the
Department of Justice be independent of the White House. I said it was a paradox:
Throughout history, some Presidents have decided that because “problems” come
from Justice, they should try to hold the Department close. But blurring those
boundaries ultimately makes the problems worse by undermining public trust in
the institutions and their work.

Near the end of our dinner, the President returned to the subject of my job,
saying he was very glad I wanted to stay, adding that he had heard great things
about me from Jim Mattis, Jeff Sessions, and many others. He then said, “I need
loyalty.” I replied, “You will always get honesty from me.” He paused and then
said, “That’s what I want, honest loyalty.” I paused, and then said, “You will get
that from me.” As I wrote in the memo I created immediately after the dinner, it is
possible we understood the phrase “honest loyalty” differently, but I decided it
wouldn’t be productive to push it further. The term — honest loyalty — had helped
end a very awkward conversation and my explanations had made clear what he
should expect.

During the dinner, the President returned to the salacious material I had
briefed him about on January 6, and, as he had done previously, expressed his
disgust for the allegations and strongly denied them. He said he was considering
ordering me to investigate the alleged incident to prove it didn’t happen. I replied
that he should give that careful thought because it might create a narrative that we
were investigating him personally, which we weren’t, and because it was very
difficult to prove a negative. He said he would think about it and asked me to
think about it.

As was my practice for conversations with President Trump, I wrote a
detailed memo about the dinner immediately afterwards and shared it with the
senior leadership team of the FBI.

February 14 Oval Office Meeting
On February 14, I went to the Oval Office for a scheduled counterterrorism
briefing of the President. He sat behind the desk and a group of us sat in
a semi-circle of about six chairs facing him on the other side of the desk. The
Vice President, Deputy Director of the CIA, Director of the National CounterTerrorism
Center, Secretary of Homeland Security, the Attorney General, and I were in
the semi-circle of chairs. I was directly facing the President, sitting
between the Deputy CIA Director and the Director of NCTC. There were quite a
few others in the room, sitting behind us on couches and chairs.

The President signaled the end of the briefing by thanking the group and
telling them all that he wanted to speak to me alone. I stayed in my chair. As the
participants started to leave the Oval Office, the Attorney General lingered by my
chair, but the President thanked him and said he wanted to speak only with me.
The last person to leave was Jared Kushner, who also stood by my chair and
exchanged pleasantries with me. The President then excused him, saying he
wanted to speak with me.

When the door by the grandfather clock closed, and we were alone, the
President began by saying, “I want to talk about Mike Flynn.” Flynn had resigned
the previous day. The President began by saying Flynn hadn’t done anything
wrong in speaking with the Russians, but he had to let him go because he had
misled the Vice President. He added that he had other concerns about Flynn,
which he did not then specify.

The President then made a long series of comments about the problem with
leaks of classified information — a concern I shared and still share. After he had
spoken for a few minutes about leaks, Reince Priebus leaned in through the door
by the grandfather clock and I could see a group of people waiting behind him.
The President waved at him to close the door, saying he would be done shortly.
The door closed.

The President then returned to the topic of Mike Flynn, saying, “He is a
good guy and has been through a lot.” He repeated that Flynn hadn’t done
anything wrong on his calls with the Russians, but had misled the Vice President.

He then said, “I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn
go. He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.” I replied only that “he is a good
guy.” (In fact, I had a positive experience dealing with Mike Flynn when he was a
colleague as Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency at the beginning of my
term at FBI.) I did not say I would “let this go.”

The President returned briefly to the problem of leaks. I then got up and
left out the door by the grandfather clock, making my way through the large group
of people waiting there, including Mr. Priebus and the Vice President.

I immediately prepared an unclassified memo of the conversation about
Flynn and discussed the matter with FBI senior leadership. I had understood the
President to be requesting that we drop any investigation of Flynn in connection
with false statements about his conversations with the Russian ambassador in
December. I did not understand the President to be talking about the broader
investigation into Russia or possible links to his campaign. I could be wrong, but I
took him to be focusing on what had just happened with Flynn’s departure and the
controversy around his account of his phone calls. Regardless, it was very
concerning, given the FBI’s role as an independent investigative agency.

The FBI leadership team agreed with me that it was important not to infect
the investigative team with the President’s request, which we did not intend to
abide. We also concluded that, given that it was a one-on-one conversation, there
was nothing available to corroborate my account. We concluded it made little
sense to report it to Attorney General Sessions, who we expected would likely
recuse himself from involvement in Russia-related investigations. (He did so two
weeks later.) The Deputy Attorney General’s role was then filled in an acting
capacity by a United States Attorney, who would also not be long in the role.

After discussing the matter, we decided to keep it very closely held, resolving to
figure out what to do with it down the road as our investigation progressed. The
investigation moved ahead at full speed, with none of the investigative team
members — or the Department of Justice lawyers supporting them — aware of the
President’s request.

Shortly afterwards, I spoke with Attorney General Sessions in person to
pass along the President’s concerns about leaks. I took the opportunity to implore
the Attorney General to prevent any future direct communication between the
President and me. I told the AG that what had just happened — him being asked to
leave while the FBI Director, who reports to the AG, remained behind — was
inappropriate and should never happen. He did not reply. For the reasons
discussed above, I did not mention that the President broached the FBI’s potential
investigation of General Flynn.

March 30 Phone Call
On the morning of March 30, the President called me at the FBI. He
described the Russia investigation as “a cloud” that was impairing his ability to act
on behalf of the country. He said he had nothing to do with Russia, had not been
involved with hookers in Russia, and had always assumed he was being recorded
when in Russia. He asked what we could do to “lift the cloud.” I responded that
we were investigating the matter as quickly as we could, and that there would be
great benefit, if we didn’t find anything, to our having done the work well. He
agreed, but then re-emphasized the problems this was causing him.

Then the President asked why there had been a congressional hearing about
Russia the previous week — at which I had, as the Department of Justice directed,
confirmed the investigation into possible coordination between Russia and the
Trump campaign. I explained the demands from the leadership of both parties in
Congress for more information, and that Senator Grassley had even held up the
confirmation of the Deputy Attorney General until we briefed him in detail on the
investigation. I explained that we had briefed the leadership of Congress on
exactly which individuals we were investigating and that we had told those
Congressional leaders that we were not personally investigating President Trump.

I reminded him I had previously told him that. He repeatedly told me, “We need
to get that fact out.” (I did not tell the President that the FBI and the Department
of Justice had been reluctant to make public statements that we did not have an
open case on President Trump for a number of reasons, most importantly because
it would create a duty to correct, should that change.)

The President went on to say that if there were some “satellite” associates
of his who did something wrong, it would be good to find that out, but that he
hadn’t done anything wrong and hoped I would find a way to get it out that we
weren’t investigating him.

In an abrupt shift, he turned the conversation to FBI Deputy Director
Andrew McCabe, saying he hadn’t brought up “the McCabe thing” because I had
said McCabe was honorable, although McAuliffe was close to the Clintons and
had given him (I think he meant Deputy Director McCabe’s wife) campaign
money. Although I didn’t understand why the President was bringing this up, I
repeated that Mr. McCabe was an honorable person.

He finished by stressing “the cloud” that was interfering with his ability to
make deals for the country and said he hoped I could find a way to get out that he
wasn’t being investigated. I told him I would see what we could do, and that we
would do our investigative work well and as quickly as we could.

Immediately after that conversation, I called Acting Deputy Attorney
General Dana Boente (AG Sessions had by then recused himself on all Russiarelated
matters), to report the substance of the call from the President, and said I
would await his guidance. I did not hear back from him before the President
called me again two weeks later.

April 11 Phone Call
On the morning of April 11, the President called me and asked what I had
done about his request that I “get out” that he is not personally under investigation.
I replied that I had passed his request to the Acting Deputy Attorney General, but I
had not heard back. He replied that “the cloud” was getting in the way of his
ability to do his job. He said that perhaps he would have his people reach out to
the Acting Deputy Attorney General. I said that was the way his request should be
handled. I said the White House Counsel should contact the leadership of DOJ to
make the request, which was the traditional channel.

He said he would do that and added, “Because I have been very loyal to
you, very loyal; we had that thing you know.” I did not reply or ask him what he
meant by “that thing.” I said only that the way to handle it was to have the White
House Counsel call the Acting Deputy Attorney General. He said that was what
he would do and the call ended.

That was the last time I spoke with President Trump.”

Campy Good Fun or Problematic & Offensive? Watch the “Fags in the Fast Lane” Trailer

I can’t quite figure Fags In the Fast Lane out.

The camp sci-fi grind house film bills itself as a “truly trashy, pansexual rock-and-roll adventure” filled with “magic golden cocks, amyl nitrate sniffing giantesses, badass police, disco mutants, androgynous Elvis assassins, kickboxing drag queens and loud muscular men with big exhausts.”

Which sounds great in theory but….. I don’t know….

Is this wonderfully subversive or wildly inappropriate? My gut tells me if I even have to ask, I should probably stay away from it and not post it. And yet… and yet… It has an early John Waters/Doris Fish/Vegas In Space vibe that I used to enjoy A LOT. Now it all feels slightly dated and culturally insensitive.

Watch the trailer below and decide for yourself. (Check out some PROS and CONS about it over at Unicorn Booty)

Fags In the Fast Lane stars cult icons Kitten Natividad and El Vez, as well as The Mummies, King Khan, Chris Asimos, Sasha Cuha, Matt Jones, Hot Wings, Sugar Fed Leopards, Ollie Bell, Justine Jones, Aimee Nichols... and many more!

It opens at St Kilda’s Astor Theatre in Melbourne on Tuesday, 27 June, and possibly streaming later in the year.

Chrissy Metz & The ‘This Is Us’ Cast Take To The Streets Of NYC With Billy Eichner!

I recall watching Billy Eichner perform Billy on the Street videos on a genky bus in Los Angeles two years ago. He made me laugh and I thought the video would be a one-off skit. Then, to my surprise and delight, the videos kept coming. I watched idly as more and more people on my social media shared his hilarious videos.

Now, he has star after star after star on Billy on the Street and I love every single one of them. Hell, he had icons like- heyyy Sarah Jessica Parker!

My latest obsession is This Is Us, because who doesn’t like to cry themselves to sleep on a Tuesday night? Billy is now such a powerhouse that he has the leads of one of Primetime’s best televisions show walking the street with him.

Watch as New York citizens fan girl over the This Is Us cast or have completely no idea who they are. There is literally no in-between and it’s hilarious. Mandy Moore turns down a date and for some reason no one wants to “objectify” the hunky Milo Ventimiglia. Rude.

Check out the hilarious interactions between New York citizens and the This Is Us cast, including my favorite, Chrissy Metz below!

Kesha Wants a Hug From Seinfeld. He Tells Her, “Yeah, No Thanks.” Twice. Watch.

Kesha found out the hard way some people don’t like to hug on Monday night when she asked Jerry Seinfeld for one. Both were attending the David Lynch Foundation’s National Night of Laughter and Song when the singer spotted Seinfeld, who was being interviewed by radio host Tommy McFly. She’s apparently a big fan.

“I’m Kesha, I love you so much. Can I give you a hug?”

“No, thanks.”

She must have thought he was joking, so she tried agin.

“Please? A little one?”

“Yeah, no thanks.”

After she walked away Seinfeld and McFly laughed about it as he said.

“I have no idea who that was…”

After being told he said,

“Well, I wish her the best.”

Awkward. Do you think he was being rude or maybe just doesn’t hug people he doesn’t know, famous or not?

Watch.

Putin Says He Doesn’t Want to Shower with a Gay Man Because “Why Provoke Him?”

Well, somebody has a high opinion of themselves….

In Oliver Stone’s upcoming interview series The Putin Interviews, the director and the uber-manly Russian president discuss whether or not openly gay Russians are allowed to serve in the military and how he feels about that.

“If you’re taking a shower in a submarine with a man and you know he’s gay, do they have a problem with that?” Stone asked, according to the Daily Beast.

“Well, I prefer not to go to shower with him,” Putin allegedly responded. “Why provoke him? But you know, I’m a judo master and a SAMBO master as well. And I can tell you this, that as head of state today, I believe it’s my duty to uphold traditional values and family values. But why? Because same-sex marriages will not produce any children.”

He went on to say that because God has “decided” that LGBT people can’t have children, it’s his duty to “reinforce families.”

“But,” he added, “that doesn’t mean that there should be any persecutions against anyone.”

Nah. No persecution of gays in Russia. Move along, nothing to discuss here.

Watch the trailer for The Putin Interviews below.

June 8th: It’s YOUR Birthday, Bitch!

#BornThisDay: Joan Rivers

June 8, 1933– Joan Rivers:

“People say that money is not the key to happiness, but I always figured if you have enough money, you can have a key made.”

Hey, you might not have been a fan, but she never did a photo shoot with a fake severed head, although she unabashedly wore fur.

Joan Alexandra Molinsky’s death, sudden and unnecessary, continues to shock me two years later. I have been a fan for 50 years and I must admit, I miss her very much. A true comedy pioneer, Rivers was transgressive and transporting, brash and bold. The first time I saw her was on The Tonight Show in 1965 and her shtick was the message that I needed to hear as a little gay child:

“Life is very tough. If you don’t laugh, it’s even tougher. I’m in nobody’s circle. I’ve always been an outsider.”

rivers carson

Rivers was never afraid of controversy in the service of her comedy. That is just one of the many reasons that I love her. I am not going to write about that current comedienne who brought down the wrath of the masses on social media, but, for me, speaking a truth, saying out-loud what most other people are thinking, is the very essence of what is funny. There is a gasp… and then there is the laugh. Rivers:

“I am thrilled that Anderson Cooper finally came out of the closet, because this explains why he never tried to date me. I saw him as the perfect package. I would have loved Gloria Vanderbilt as a mother-in-law. This explains everything.”

For six decades Rivers changed how women were to be considered when they tried careers as stand-up comics. From her first appearances with Johnny Carson to the Fat-Fingered Vulgarian’s Celebrity Apprentice television series (which she won and gave a boost to her career) to the E Network’s Fashion Police, Rivers continued to lambast the sexual double standard. She was an Emmy Award winning talk show host, Tony Award nominated actor, bestselling writer, jewelry designer, and a balloon popper of the pompous and the phony.

I always anxiously waited for her wrap-up of any award show best and worst dressed. I laughed and wondered at the brilliant and brutally honest documentary, Joan Rivers: A Piece Of Work (2010), again with a gasp and then the big laugh. This documentary follows one year in the life of Rivers, with her calendar full of engagements, sometime several each day, working to support her opulent lifestyle, and to bolster her own sense of self-worth. Rivers was a basically insecure person who is better known now for her overuse of cosmetic surgery rather than her own work as a comedy professional. She worked that full schedule up until the day she was killed.

I loved Rivers because she unapologetically skewered everyone and everything that came in to her orbit.  She injected crass and controversial cracks into the world of buttoned-up, male-dominated network television shows and the boys’ only world of comedy clubs.

It might surprise some of my friends to know that she was one of my writing idols, even though I try to keep my humor smaller and with a gentler touch. She did inspire me to be unafraid to say ANYTHING.

In 1989, Rivers became the host of The Joan Rivers Show, the first woman to host a late show. She won her Emmy Award, which famously got her barred from appearing on Carson’s TheTonight Show where she had served as permanent guest host. After a decades-long shut-out, Rivers was invited back to The Tonight Show in 2014 by Jimmy Fallon.

In 2013, Rivers launched In Bed With Joan, a weekly Web series of interviews with celebrities. Rivers even got cozy with World Of Wonder stars RuPaul and James St. James.

Rivers continued to cook up controversy in the last year of her life. She stormed out of a CNN interview after being asked whether there should be boundaries on her jokes, particularly when it affects public figures. But, maybe she tore down women to help them grow thicker skin. She was a complicated feminist.

“Life is very tough and if you can tell a joke to make something easier and funny, do it.”

Rivers ignored the whole notion of “too soon”. Days after her the funeral of husband Edgar, who had committed suicide, she claimed that she’d scattered his ashes at Neiman Marcus, so she could visit five times a week.

Rivers always wanted to be taken seriously as an actor. She stated that comedy was her fall-back profession when she had trouble finding work on the stage. In 1959, at the very start of career, she was cast opposite a then unknown Barbra Streisand in an Off-Off-Broadway play in which the pair of future Gay Icons played lesbians and had a kissing scene.

Rivers:

“This was before she was singing, before anything. I knew she was talented, but you never know what someone will be. She was a fabulous kisser, that’s what I knew.”

Rivers was also one of show business’s most vocal supporters of LGBTQ equality. She was speaking out, having gay guests on her television shows and serving on the board of the HIV services organization God’s Love We Deliver from its very start.

“My gay fans have been wonderful from day one. I remember when I was working at the Duplex in Greenwich Village at the beginning of my career and the only ones who would laugh at my jokes were the gay guys. I think if I had started out in straight clubs & bars I never would’ve gotten anywhere.”

I am acquainted with several people that knew or met Rivers and they all claim that she was a most generous and loving friend. My buddy on The Facebook and Instagram, the handsome and talented David Dangle, a three time Emmy Award winning designer, was Rivers right-hand-gay and is CEO of her QVC brand. He suffered a terrible loss at her passing and has praised his dear friend’s generosity and spirit.

At her Fifth Avenue palace, Rivers had a pillow and stitched on it was the phrase: “Don’t Expect Praise Without Envy Until You Are Dead”. Rivers had long stated that when she left this world she would be sanctified just like her hero, Lenny Bruce. That adage proved to be true. After her passing in early September 2014, the praise came from friends and foes, all naming her as a trailblazer and a force of nature.

Even in death, Rivers still delivers a wallop. Christie’s auctioned off her collections a year ago.  Her world class Fabergé collection, plus pieces from TiffanyChanel and Harry Winston were all available for bidding.

Rivers’ apartment, a gold-gilded showstopper that would have make POTUS and his wife jealous, contained such items as a Tiffany silver dog bowl with “Spike” engraved on it, estimated to be worth $800, and a Chinese black lacquer 12-panel screen with an estimated value of $10,000. Because we are talking about Rivers, the auction had the sort of objects that would put Liberace to shame: Two candelabras decorated with porcelain lions and ornamental metal flowers and grape leaves ($5,000); a silver palm tree centerpiece with dangling cut-glass inserts ($1,500); and an ochre gown by Oscar de la Renta, featuring leather and sequin adornments and enough fabric to upholster a sofa $2000). The auction brought more than two million dollars for River’s favorite charities and her grandson’s college fund.

Her apartment sold two years ago for $28 million. When it had been on the market briefly in 2011, Rivers stated:

“Qaddafi wanted to rent it for that whole U.N. thing. People said it is blood money. I said, ‘Oh, I can easily wash blood off dollar bills.’ But they didn’t like it. It was too close to a synagogue”.

#LGBTQMustSee: “Pride”, The Movie

$

In the 21st century, LGBTQ Rights became all about Marriage Equality and serving in the military. But, with these goals archived, I think this it is time for baby queers to look at the LGBTQ experience from the past as a useful way to prepare for whatever is possibly going to come next. It might get really bad with a President Pence.

Pride (2014) is an account of the real-life 1984-85 alliance between the London fundraising group Lesbians And Gays Support The Miners (LGSM) and the people in the small town of Onllwyn in Wales. But, like many other nostalgic films, Pride has the future in mind. It is a thoroughly engaging, goofy, heartfelt, inspiring movie.

Pride is a spirited tribute to join-up activism during an era of profound Conservatism. If it had been fiction, the story would have seemed hackneyed: a city versus country culture clash tale. Pride takes place over exactly a year, set against Britain’s last grasp at popular Socialism and the rise of AIDS panic and outright homophobia.

Even with the progress in equality for LGBTQ folks, this 2014 film might have been off-putting for mainstream audiences when it was released, but the filmmakers of Pride put the project together with an accessible approach. Its director, Matthew Warchus presents the film in a straightforward, simple style, with moments of handheld camera suspense, and a rousing soundtrack of pop and traditional music, nudging emotions, but also bringing a smart sense of the 1980s period.

In 1984, 20-year-old Joe, who is in the closet, arrives in London from the suburbs for his first Gay Pride march and falls in with a group of gay men and lesbian Steph, who meet at the bookshop of flamboyant Jonathan and his Welsh partner Gethin. Gay people are being threatened by Margaret Thatcher and at the same time, there is a miners’ strike in response to Thatcher’s mine closures. Northern Irish activist Mark Ashton believes that the gays and the miners should show solidarity. After reluctantly organizing, a bus load of LGBTQ folks arrive in Onllwyn to help raise funds for the striking miners. Slowly, the villagers are won over by the sincerity of London gays and with the help of some groovy disco moves, they persuade most of the community that they are all fighting the same fight. When a homophobe tries to sabotage the new alliance with a tabloid smear, the gays turn the whole thing around with a hugely successful London concert to benefit the miners to which most of the villagers, now in complete solidarity with their gay friends, turn up.

Even of the filmmaking is conventional (in a good way, think Milk), it avoids clichés. It is not driven by the budding romances or seething personal vendettas; it is very much a story about public actions rather than private feelings. Or rather, the personal is political: not only is one leading character’s first kiss not the beginning of a romance, it coincides with the rousing finale of a speech about solidarity.

In fact, Solidarity is what this film is about. There is some explosive violence here, and there is still shock and indignation at the belittlement of both the miners and the gay people by their government. Small moments of thoughtless homophobia and union-bashing bring empathy between the wide differences of the two groups. Pride is a feel-good commentary on the totally timely notion that systems of oppression and discrimination inevitably overlap and are most successfully considered and confronted when groups band together. Or, to put it another way, disco and brass bands go together better than you’d expect.

The film, so appropriately named, delivers a moving story about Pride, Friendship and Solidarity. When I wasn’t laughing at the incredible performances from the top cast, I was crying at the emotional and moving story.

The film could have gone tragic or over political, but instead, and to its benefit, is beautifully written and balanced. The clear messages come through with humor and nuance.

The cast is magical: with distinguished character actors like the great Imelda Staunton, Paddy Considine, and Bill Nighy; hotties Dominic West and openly gay Andrews Scott, and young Ben Schnetzer, Joseph Gilgun and George MacKay.

For Pride Month in June, Pride is a perfect LGBTQ Must See.

The Gay Essentials: The 50 Movies Every Gay Man NEEDS to See

$
0
0

Reposted for Pride Weekend:

The camp classics that defined generations of gay men seem to have been all but forgotten lately. After the jump, I’ve listed the 50 most captivating, inspiring, and important movies that you absolutely NEED to see before you die. It’s Homo 101 on the WOW Report.

(You don’t need to watch them in this order, but I’d start with the handful at the top and work your way down. And for God’s sake, DON’T WATCH THEM ON YOUTUBE. I mean, really.)

03

1) Auntie Mame: Rosalind Russell is Auntie Mame, the woman who taught gays to be gay. Start here, and if you aren’t captivated, forget the rest of the list. You obviously haven’t got a camp bone in your body.

2) Sunset Boulevard: Gloria Swanson as an absolutely demented silent film star trying for a comeback with the help of her creepy butler, Max, and a reluctant gigalo. Probably the most oft-quoted movie of all time.

3) Breakfast at Tiffanys: Slightly dated, but Audrey Hepburn’s role as a flighty call-girl is still the be-all and end-all of New York chic.

4) All About Eve: Bette Davis’ volcanic performance as a fading theater actress is at turns bitchy, bawdy, and tragic. Another one you’ll be quoting for years.

5) Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?: Towering egos Bette Davis and Joan Crawford are aging sisters locked in a deadly power struggle. Gorgeously grotesque performances all around.

6) Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?: Real-life married couple Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton viciously and deliciously mind fuck each other while torturing their guests at a boozy after-hours party.

7) Suddenly, Last Summer: Homosexuality! Cannibalism! Dementia Praecox! and Elizabeth Taylor in a see-through white bathing suit. One of the nuttiest movies ever made, based on the play by twisted sister Tennessee Williams. It’s the movie that made me the queen I am today.

8) The Women: The 1939 original, darling, not the anemic remake with Meg Ryan (shudder). The Women stars the greatest female stars of the ’30s (not a man in sight) as society dames who gleefully rip each other to shreds. “JUNGLE RED!”

9) The Thin Man: Three reasons to see this: Myrna Loy, Myrna Loy, Myrna Loy. She’s witty, sophisticated, and able to drink her husband under the table – who doesn’t want to be her?

10) Gypsy: Another Rosalind Russell powerhouse performance, this time as a smothering stage mother trying to make her daughter a star in vaudeville.

11) Sweet Charity: Shirley Maclaine as a plucky dime-a-dance girl looking for love in ’60s Manhattan. Come for Shirley’s unforgettable performance, stay for the awesome Bob Fossee dance numbers

12) Valley of the Dolls: Based on Jacqueline Susanne’s all-time best-seller, this lurid show-biz drama traces the ups and downs of three young women as fame, booze, pills, and men get the better of them. Trashtastic good fun.

13) A Streetcar Named Desire: Vivien Leigh as a fragile Southern belle who takes refuge at the home of her sister and her sister’s savagely sexy husband (played by Marlon Brando at the height of his hubba-hubba hotness)

14) The Roman Spring of Mrs Stone: Vivien Leigh as an over-the-hill actress who moves to Rome so she can sample the local cuisine, by which I mean pick up street hustlers.

15) Lolita: A man marries his landlady so he can take advantage of her teenage daughter in one of the most wickedly funny and intellectually challenging movies of the ’60s.

16) Cabaret: Liza Minnelli wows as a free-spirited singer at a divinely decadent cabaret in pre-war Berlin.

17) Barbarella: ’60s psychedelic-sci-fi- meets-soft-porn marvel featuring Jane Fonda and her anti-gravity breasts.

18) Midnight Cowboy: Naive country bumpkin Jon Voight moves to New York to become… a Times Square hustler? Fantastic must-see cameo by Sylvia Miles and a groovy Warhol-esque party scene (starring actual Warhol superstars).

19) Rosemary’s Baby: It’s all about Mia’s hair here. And a chance to watch Ruth Gordon chew some scenery.

20) Freaks: Tod Browning’s 1932 cult masterpiece about circus life starring real-life sideshow freaks. Chilling and heartbreaking. “Gooble Gobble, one of us!”

21) I Want to Live!: Powerful story of the life and execution of Barbara Graham (Susan Hayward) a perjurer, prostitute, liar and drug addict. Now THAT’S acting!

22) Harriet Craig: Joan Crawford as an over-the-top, tough-as-nails, slightly mannish bitch-goddess. In other words, herself.

23) Straight Jacket: Joan Crawford, in the twilight of her career, as a recently paroled axe murderer, clinging to what’s left of her sanity.

24) Now Voyager: Bette Davis transforms from dumpy spinster into soigné society beauty due to the love of Paul Henreid.

25) Of Human Bondage: Young Bette Davis at her volatile best as a tawdry Cockney waitress who absolutely DESTROYS poor Leslie Loward.

26) Long Days Journey Into Night: Long and talky, but Katherin Hepburn’s turn as an Edwardian morphine addict is one for the ages.

27) Picnic: William Holden is a little long in the tooth to play the studly drifter who drives everyone wild with passion, but Rosalind Russell delivers one of her best performances ever (and that’s saying A LOT) as a sexually repressed school marm. Her big scene at the picnic will haunt you for the rest of your days.

28) Bringing Up Baby: Katherine Hepburn is positively incandescent and Cary Grant is boner-inducingly adorable in  the definitive screwball comedy of the 1930s

29) Qui Ete Vous, Polly Magoo?: ‘60s Fashion 101. Scathingly satirical art house movie spoofing the fashion world and its excesses.

30) Mahogany: Diana Ross as THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MODEL IN THE WORLD, determined to become a designer instead. Camp beyond camp.

31) Funny Face: Audrey Hepburn is a reluctant supermodel, Kay Thompson is a Diana Vreeland-esque fashion editor “(“THINK PINK!”), and Fred Astaire is a Richard Avedon-like photographer. Absolute heaven.

32) Funny Girl: Arguably Barbra Streisand’s best role. As the legendary stage star Fanny Price, Barbra is a revelation. If you aren’t gasping at her big “Don’t Rain on My Parade” number, well, you just aren’t gay, that’s all.

33) Some Like It Hot: Arguably Marilyn Monroe’s best role. With Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis doing booger drag. Vaguely insulting, but the drag revolution had to start somewhere, I guess.

34) Die! Die! My Darling!: One of your only chances to see the iconic Tallulah Bankhead on screen. Schlocky ’60s horror, but, oh, that voice. Like a foghorn dipped in molasses.

35) Mommie Dearest: Fay Dunaway absolutely CHANNELS Joan Crawford in the most important biopic you’ll ever see.

36) Manhattan: Woody Allen’s elegiac ode to New York, both sidesplitting funny and timelessly romantic. Don’t let Woody’s creepy affair with the 16-year-old Mariel Hemingway ruin the film for you.

37) Annie Hall: Woody at the absolute pinnacle of his genius (I know, I know, a controversial thing to say these days). One of the greatest movies of the 20th century, though, no doubt bout it. Dianne Keaton at her la-di-da best, setting fashions and inspiring a generation of actresses.

38-40) Pink Flamingos/Female Trouble/Polyester: I list all three John Waters peerless masterpieces starring the late, great Divine, because you can’t choose just one, obviously. I suggest an all-night Saturday night marathon with friends.

41) Andy Warhol’s Trash: Drag superstar Holly Woodlawn is absolutely heartbreaking (Paul Newman campaigned to get her an Oscar nomination!) in this low budget art house classic, also starring a frequently nude Joe Dallessandro (only the hottest guy of the ’60s).

42) Pink Narcissus: ’60s experimental homoerotic classic. Once you see it, you’ll notice it’s influences everywhere, from the photography of David LaChapelle and Pierre et Gilles to the fashions of Jean Paul Gaultier.

43) Double Indemnity: The noirest of films, with Barbara Stanwyk as a ball-busting bitch plotting to kill her husband for the insurance policy. My GOD, she’s magnificent.

44) Imitation of Life: Lana Turner stars in this three-hankerchief weeper about an actress who sets up housekeeping with a homeless, black widow and her light-skinned eight-year-old daughter who rejects her mother by trying to pass for white. A favorite of your old, gay uncle’s.

45) Leave Her to Heaven: A rare Technicolor film noir, with Gene Tierney as perhaps the nastiest femme fatales ever to appear on screen.

46) Choose any of the following Marlene Dietrich/Joseph Von Sternberg collaborations: The Scarlet Empress/Devil Is a Woman/Morocco/Blonde Venus/Shanghai Express

47) Choose any of the following Douglas Sirk movies: All that Heaven Allows/Magnificent Obsession/Written on the Wind

48) Mildred Pierce: Joan Crawford fights her way up from the gutter to own a chain of diners. Her snooty daughter Vida is embarrassed of her mother’s lower class roots. It’s Joan at the absolute height of her Joanality.

49) My Fair Lady: Not one of my favorites – I find the premise rude and the character of the professor nasty and misogynistic – WHY WOULD SHE WASTE HER TIME WITH HIM? – but the Ascot scene (by gay god Cecil Beaton) is beyond sublime, and the Lerner & Lowe songs are among the best ever written, so…. yes, you need to watch it, sigh.

50) The Boys in the Band: I haven’t included many gay films here – you know, movies about actual homosexuals – because usually they’re either too dreary or too earnest and lack that certain “quotable quality” that makes something camp. The Boys in the Band, however, manages to be both an important milestone in queer cinema AND catty good fun.

Agree? Disagree? Well, these are MY gay essentials. Feel free to tweet me your own @JSJdarling #gayessentials

VH1 finally brings our girl back to the screen! The self-proclaimed, icon of reality television, Tiffany “New York” Pollard, hosts a variety of celebrities on Brunch with Tiffany and this week just happens to be our ‘current f*cking reigning’ Drag Race champion… Bob The Drag Queen!

Tiffany leads the show stating every HeadBitchInCharge needs to have a good first meal. Happily, she brings her leftovers (pizza and vodka) to share with Bob at Therapy Bar in New York.

The NYC queens tease one another by comparing themselves to each other, Bob Ruveals his fantasy RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars cast, and spills how a jealous rival from Drag Race genuinely hit him as he was celebrating the win.

No. I’m not kidding. Neither is Bob. One of the drag queens hit him. Bob even states, “My mom says don’t touch my face like you want to fight.”

Tiffany is well informed that Bob knows how to enter a room. But, how does one exit!? Bob’s departure will have you gagging for more!

The video below is a MUST SEE! The banter between the both of them is absolutely hysterical!

Make sure you tune in to VH1 tomorrow, Friday, June 9th at 9/8c to see which queen is the next to go!

Everything You Need to Know About the LA Pride/Resist March This Sunday

The Los Angeles Resist March, Sunday, June 11, will start at Hollywood and Highland, since there is a subway station there allowing participants to arrive by mass transit. The march will begin at 8AM and follow a 3.1 mile path down La Brea Avenue, turning onto Santa Monica Boulevard and ending at San Vicente Boulevard, the entrance to the Pride festival.

Organizers are expecting 250,000 to 500,000 marchers to participate, which sounds MAJOR.

So far, the performers on the WeHo stage this year include Brandy, Chromeo, Young M.A., Erika Jayne, Aaron Carter, Brooke Candy, ILOVEMAKONNEN, Spencer Ludwig, Tish Hyman, Leon Else, Connell Cruise, Kat Dahlia and Jesse Montana, with more to be announced.

Single-day tickets for both Saturday and Sunday are $25. Two-day tickets are $35. Beyond the ticket price, you’re also willing to donate a bit extra. Get yours HERE.

Via The Source:

  • The Resist March is beginning right outside the Metro Red Line subway’s Hollyw00d/Highland Station. Expect crowds at that station. If you want to avoid those crowds, you can also exit at Hollywood/Vine Station, a .8-mile walk to Hollywood/Highland.
  • •On Sunday, Red Line trains will be running every 10 minutes with six-car trains. Both Blue and Expo Line trains will be running every 12 minutes with three-car trains.
  • •If riding, we encourage you to buy and load your TAP card ahead of time to avoid long lines at TAP vending machines. You can buy TAP cards and load fares at any Metro Rail or Orange Line station; here’s a system map.
  • •As the march takes place, streets will be closed and traffic in the area may not return to normal until late in the day, so your best option for getting around may be Metro Rail.
  • •The city of West Hollywood will have bus shuttles running Sunday to help people return from the march to the Red Line’s Hollywood/Highland Station. There will be three stops: at the Pacific Design Center (8687 Melrose Ave.), Santa Monica Boulevard & Fairfax Avenue and Santa Monica & La Brea. From there, the buses will run an express route to the Red Line’s Hollywood/Highland Station until about 5:30 p.m.
  • That’s the information for the Resist March. As for the rest of the Pride Festival at West Hollywood Park, there is plenty of bus service:
  • •The city of WeHo is running free shuttles throughout the weekend, with some shuttles running all the way to the Red Line’s Hollywood/Highland Station — see the map above for routes and stops. On Friday, the last bus to Hollywood/Highland will be about 9 p.m. On Saturday, the last bus to Hollywood/Highland is about 1 a.m. On Sunday night, the WeHo shuttles will run on Santa Monica Boulevard only between Robertson and La Brea.
  • •On Friday and Saturday nights, the last Red Line train from Hollywood/Highland to North Hollywood leaves about 2:35 a.m. and the last train to Union Station is about 2:30 a.m.
  • •Several Metro Bus lines provide service to the festival or nearby, including the 4 and 704 on Santa Monica Boulevard, Line 10 on Melrose Avenue, Line 30 on San Vicente Boulevard, the 105 on La Cienega Boulevard and the 217 and 218 on Fairfax Avenue. Please keep in mind there will be bus detours on Sunday due to the Resist March — and possibly at other times over the weekend. Additional Metro staff will be available Beverly/La Cienega and Beverly/San Vicente to provide service info and wayfinding assistance. To check if your bus will be detouring, visit our Service Advisories page. You’ll also be able to find real-time information throughout the day on Twitter @metrolosangeles and @metroLAalerts.
  • Finally, a reminder that Metro will be hosting a pop-up shop on June 11 outside of Division 7, located at the intersection of San Vicente and Santa Monica Boulevard. The pop-up shop will have Pride TAP cards pre-loaded with $1.75 for sale, as well as limited edition Ride with Pride T-shirts, tank tops and tote bags available for purchase. Hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until supplies run out, so make sure to swing by early.

We were all a little starstruck this week when the thoroughly scrumptious Nico Tortorella joined us in the WOW Report studio to promote the upcoming Menendez: Blood Brothers (on Lifetime! Sunday night! Eight PM!). He’s quite seductive in person, you know. Almost panther-like. And that HAIR! Oy. I was so dazzled, I don’t reeeeeeeally recall what we discussed, although I know at some point we discussed his podcast “The Love Bomb,” working with Courtney Love, his new friendship with onscreen brother Myko Olivier, his sexual fluidity, and OF COURSE I had to bring up that iconic bisexual shower scene in The Following  (I still get moist just thinking about it).

Check out the fun we had, below.

And starting tomorrow, you can now WATCH the unedited WOW Report Radio Andy show on Sirius XM! We’ll be posting the videos every Friday!

“Menendez: Blood Brothers” MEGAPOST: Reviews! Interviews with the Stars! Trailers! & MORE!

A compendium of all things Menendez: Blood Brothers, including (but not limited to!) interviews with the directors and stars, reviews, promotional stills, trailers, and Menendez ephemera. Let’s get started! And don’t forget, Menendez: Blood Brothers premieres SUNDAY NIGHT! ON LIFETIME! at 8PM!

– InTouch gives you a thoughtful refresher course in the Menendez Brothers and their trial here.

– Here’s a Facebook video which gives you a visual history of the boys (with stills from the LIFETIME movie).

– A fabulous talk with directors Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato at Unicorn Booty Here they are discussing working with Courtney and shooting the big murder scene:

With a rather well-known history of gun violence in their lead actress’s family’s past, Barbato and Bailey were sensitive to the fact that the Blood Brothers story recalls one of recent history’s most gruesome acts of violence.

“It was a very emotional day,” Barbato says of shooting the film’s murder scene, to which Bailey adds, “We talked about being able to do as much of it with Courtney off-set as possible, but in the end she was there for all of it. She just gave herself over to it. I think it was an incredibly emotional day for her, and super intense, but I also think everybody felt it.”

“And her performance in that scene is really harrowing,” says Barbato.

“It stays with you,” Bailey adds.

– Nico talks to Access Hollywood about portraying convicted murderer Lyle Menendez, his friendship with Courtney Love. Plus, Nico plays a round of Access Hollywood Live’s “Spin the Bottle” with Natalie and Kit. (NOW WHY DIDN’T WE THINK TO DO THAT?)

– Here’s the Nico interview with Pride Source that’s getting all the buzz. In it he talks polyamory, his ever-evolving sexuality, and when we can finally see him naked (!!!!!!!!).

– Here he is talking to PARADE magazine about getting into Lyle’s head. (Read the whole interview here)

PARADE: This is a pretty dark story. Did you have any second thoughts on playing a man who killed his parents?

NICO: This is a new genre for me. The fear that I had was knowing the toll that it takes on me, as an actor, to dive into these types of characters. This was an 18-day shoot of a movie and not a multi-year contract for a television show. To be honest with you, I think that I was more nervous to get into the head space of the sexual abuse than I was to get into the head space of the final moment, taking the gun and killing your parents.

I think that these guys really needed to be in therapy for a really long time. This is a really serious topic and these are real people’s stories, so I took it really seriously. This wasn’t just another fun little horror movie that I went to go do. I did all of my research. It’s a dark space to live in, but that’s part of my job. As much work as it takes to get into this kind of space, it takes as much work to get out of it. I can say that I’m in the clear as of now.

– Courtney talks to Good Morning America‘s Michael Strahan, below, on how she prepare for the role: “There’s not a lot on Kitty,” she said. “There’s like four photos, a little tiny clip of video. I kind of had to make her up and I read as many books as I could, saw as many things as I could and did as much research. We kind of got the point that she was in life not happy.”

– And here she is on Late Night with Seth Meyers (being too, too fabulous!)

– Here’s a fun little Menendez ’90s artifact from the Menendez: Blood Brothers screenwriter:

– Inside Edition covers the upcoming LIFETIME movie, and has these two fun tidbits from Courtney, Nico, and Benito Martinez (who plays the father, Jose Menendez)

“When you look at the number of times she was shot, there was a level of rage there,” she said. “They went to the car, got more ammunition and shot her again. They hated him so much but really, really hated her.”

Nico Tortorella plays Lyle. He told Inside Edition that he actually feels sorry for the man he portrays.

“Do I feel sorry for Lyle and Erik? Yes,” he said. “These kids went through hell with Jose. Murder is not the answer to anything, but these kids went through hell.”

Actor Benito Martinez plays millionaire businessman Jose Menendez, the father of the two songs.

“He was a beast,” he told Inside Edition. “He was a monster. He was so wealthy and so demanding, the way he raised his boys created a very dangerous atmosphere in the house and that played out.”

– Nico and Myko spoke to TOO FAB, check out a brief portion of their interview below.

“With this story, we’re taking their perspective, their argument and trying to say well, what if this is what really happened,” Olivier told TooFab. “It is a relatively sympathetic view of their understanding, which hopefully makes it interesting.”

“I don’t think murder is the right answer, just want to put that out there,” he added. “They don’t deny that they killed their parents.”

“The issue is the court system denied any other issue that was happening with these two,” Tortorella chimed in. “I think it was really important for us to tell their side of the story because I think these two real life human beings were so overexposed and they were kind of stereotyped as like these two rich kids that killed their parents for money and that’s just not really what happened, right?”

– WWD talks to Courtney (and the wardrobe designer) about Kitty Melendez’s look for the movie: “Lots of high-waisted jeans, silk blouses, big hair and big shoulder pads — Eighties glamour, baby.” (And might I interject here and say SHE LOOKS AMAAAAAAZING. I would wear every single one of those outfits!)

– And here’s a Courtney-centric trailer

– Oxygen’s SNAPPED has a special two-episode examining the notorious case of the Menendez brothers: their background, their crime and the stunning trials that made history. Watch it HERE.

– NewNowNext calls Menendez: Blood Brothers “just as dark and dramatic as you would expect.” Lots of promotional stills and trailers there, as well.

– Did Hollywood Medium Tyler Henry Just Summon the G-G-Ghost of Nico Tortorella’s Dead Grandfather? Watch here.

– Pitchfork, NME, and Rolling Stone all seem to enjoy the trailer (and especially Courtney)…

Fenton and Randy talk to Awards Daily about choosing the project and their their ongoing obsession with true crime… (read the whole interview here)

Awards Daily: What made you want to take this project on?

Fenton Bailey: Randy and I were gripped by the story when it happened and over the years. The Menendez brothers were kind of hot, and it just seemed like such an interesting story. We’re always attracted to subjects that are over-exposed but yet under revealed.

I just remember thinking, “Are they really these cold-blooded murderers?” It just seemed weird. It was a crazy time in L.A. with the riots and Rodney King. At the time, we didn’t do anything about it because life goes on. With the anniversary coming up, it’s been 25 years. I thought this was such a juicy and interesting story.

Randy Barbato: I also think as filmmakers, most of our work is making documentaries. We did Party Monster the documentary and then the scripted film. We just felt it was time to be doing more scripted stuff. All of our stuff is about similar over-exposed but under-revealed stories. We’re attracted to the same kinds of story, but it’s all storytelling. With this film, the idea of working with Abdi Nazemian who’s this amazing screenwriter and with this incredible cast, all the pieces fell into place for us to be able to transfer our sensibilities in all the work we’ve done in documentary into a great script, a cool cast, and an amazing story. We hope people will get to see it and be open to the ideas that are explored in it.

It’s not necessarily the popular notion. We’re not trying to defend their horrific actions, we’re just trying to take a different look at what might have inspired those actions.

Awards Daily: We’re so obsessed with true crime. I remember when this happened. As you said, it’s been 25 years, and we’re still obsessed. What is our obsession with true crime?

Fenton: I think it’s the similar thing that fascinates people about O.J. Simpson. I wonder if it’s true crime or was it this intersection of crime and popular culture as well. It wasn’t just true crime, it was money and glamor, right?

And finally, BoyCulture interviews Fenton and Randy and an provides an interesting review in the process:

The film contains a lovely, fragile performance by Olivier and a surprisingly stolid one from Tortorella as the mastermind who hasn’t thought things through; you can see the wheels turning in his head, but his dead gaze betrays his lack of true cunning. The film also finds a way — that you will love or hate — to feature plenty of screen time for Love, even though her character is eliminated early on. Similarly, her take on a feckless, enabling society wife will either excite you or leave you cold, but her director Barbato boldly calls her a “contender” in the role. Will she generate Emmy buzz the way she once generated Oscar buzz, for The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996)?

“She was the first choice from the get-go,” he says. “She just embodies the character in so many ways.”

Interestingly, the movie is devoid of camp, even though it features a scene in which Courtney Love’s Kitty tears off Lyle’s toupee — and that’s a neat trick.

It does, however, have a lot of skin. “Sex is present in the whole story,” Bailey stresses. “We don’t shy away from that at all. There were rumors about Erik being gay and Lyle being gay … In talking with people who’ve been sexually abused and victims of incest, they question their own sexuality and their own willingness to be in that situation. It’s very complex, it’s very layered.”

Indeed, though the film is steeped in sex, it’s unlikely to provide jack-off material. Barbato says, “We don’t shy away from controversial material. This is controversial on emany levels. Just having a discussion about sexual abuse with men is still, to this day, not really something that’s discussed in the mainstream, yet it is something that occurs.”

The film’s sexuality is dead-serious, but at the time the boys used their alleged molestation as a defense, people mocked it. Bailey argues, “You see things that are on the edge of the culture … people laugh about it and mock it at first. We’ve seen the same thing regarding gender in the last few years — there’s been so much change.”
