This White House is a disaster. They cannot even organanize an Easter egg hunt. Usually THE biggest event of the year at the White House, with almost 40,000 people attending, this year’s is being thrown together at the last minute.

The First Lady is responsible for arranging the event since 1878, but as Melania Trump has not yet appointed all of her staff –and lives 200 miles away in New York City– it’s no big surprise the event has been a mess. The New York Times reports that the event is being “quickly thrown-together”, with the hope of attracting around half the usual crowd.

• The White House usually orders huge amounts of wooden eggs from Wells Wood Turning, which are then handed out to guests and sold as souvenirs. Despite the fact that the company reached out to the Trumps on social media two months ago, warning the family that they were about to miss the deadline for the eggs to be made in time. But they failed to put the order in on time, and so there are no eggs from the company.

• A spokesperson for the schools in Washington D.C. saying they haven’t received any invites, so local school children have also not been invited. This despite usually getting around 4,000 tickets for kids.

• AND members of Congress were not sent tickets for their constituents, as is customary.

• AND no celebrity entertainers have been booked, either. (much like the innaugural distaster)

Of course despite this, the White House claims it will be the greatest Easter Egg Roll EVER.

This has all been BAD for Melania Trump’s image as First Lady, so, she made an unannounced visit to children at HomeSafe, an organization that supports victims of abuse and domestic violence in Lake Worth, Florida.

But of course, she put her foot in it, because even when trying to polish her image while seeming to do good, she wore sparkly over-the-top way-too-expensive shoes. They are by Rene Caovilla and retail for $1150.

She spoke to the girls and presented them with Easter baskets and stuffed bunnies.

“I’m here to support you and help you. I want to encourage you, and do whatever I can to help you achieve your dreams.”

Great. How does giving out Easter baskets in expensive shoes help abused children “achieve their dreams”?

Anyway, tomorrow she’ll be home safe wrapped in luxury because, once again, the asshole in chief will be at Mar-A-Lago this weekend, planning to blow up the world, no doubt.

As you may have heard, Sean Spicer was once the White House Easter bunny, so perhaps, as with half of the other disasters in this administration, it will be his job to make excuses for why it went off the rails.

It was odd if you had never seen the original; Bette Davis in 1962 singing Whatever Happened To Baby Jane? on The Andy Williams Show. But Susan Sarandon‘s rendition was a rather cheap imitation, if you ask me but it’s still fun to compare her Bette on Feud with the real McCoy. (The full Bette Davis version is at the bottom.)

Last night Coachella headliner Lady Gaga took the stage in a black police hat and leather trench coat and surprised the crowd by performing a new song, The Cure, about 45 minutes into the set.

During the song, she told fans she loved them and they helped sustain her during difficult times.

“You cure me every time with your love.”

It shot to the top of the charts before the sun came up Sunday, with a fan tweeting,

“Just imagine when everyone in America wakes up, most people still havent heard it.“

Doesn’t this scene make you want to hit the gym in preparation for swimsuit season?

Bazille was born to upper-middle class family in Montpellier, France. His father was a rich landowner and wine producer.

In 1862, he moved to Paris to study to be a doctor, but spent most of his time at the École des Beaux-Arts where he painted and hung out with Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Émile Zola and Alfred Sisley.

His work was inspired by the paintings Gustave Courbet and Édouard  Manet.

Bazille is a relatively unknown and underappreciated figure.

He was killed in battle during the Franco-Prussian War. He was just 28-years-old when he was taken, bringing his promising career to an abrupt and tragic end.

He is currently the subject of Frédéric Bazille And The Birth Of Impressionism at The National Gallery in Washington, DC, up until July 9.

This week’s SNL cold open had Donald Trump played by Alec Baldwin and host Jimmy Fallon as Jared Kushner but didn’t include the most memorable White House gaffes, possibly ever. White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said that Hitler didn’t “sink to using chemical weapons,” even though he had gassed millions of Jews. On Passover no less. Awful.

Melissa McCarthy replayed it for us, reprising her angry “Spicey’ later in the show behind a lectern and in an Easter Bunny outfit. (He was once the WH Easter bunny, when George W Bush was POTUS, you know…?)

“Yes, you all got your wish this week, didn’t you, huh? Spicey finally made a mistake. As you all know, President Trump recently bombed Syria while eating the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake America has ever laid eyes on. That’s a fact!”

He dredged up the awful “Holocaust centers” comment again, too.

“I know they’re not really called Holocaust centers. Duh! I know that. I’m aware.

I clearly meant to say concentration —clubs.”

I am sensitive to the fact that they were sent there on trains. But, hey, at least they didn’t have to fly United, am I right? That one just jumped. That one just jumped right out of my mouth.”

She ends by referencing the threat of North Korea coming us by jumping on a motorized cart ramming the podium and white picket fence saying,

“This Easter, eat as much candy as you want, it might be our last one.“

Until the 1916 overthrow of the Tsar, Carl Faberge‘s jewelery workshop made 50 Easter eggs for the royal family, each taking a year or more to craft. But the third egg ever made was on the brink of being melted down for scrap recently; Tsar Alexander III‘s 1887 Easter gift to his wife, Tsarina Maria Feodorovna. The 3.2-inch egg is on an elaborate gold stand supported by lion paw feet with three sapphires suspend golden garlands around it, and a diamond acts an opening mechanism to reveal the Vacheron Constantin watch inside.

In 2013, An anonymous Mid-western man who had been left financially stretched after he apparently overestimated what the tiny golden egg would be worth once it was melted down. He’d been hoping to make $500 on it. In a fit of desperation last year, he typed three letters “egg” along with the name engraved on the clock it contained, “Vacheron Constantin” into Google and his search brought up a 2011 article describing a “frantic search” for the item, estimated to be worth $33 million.

The man contacted Fabergé expert Kieran McCarthy and flew to London to visit McCarthy’s workplace, Wartski jewelers in Mayfair, where the egg was just displayed from April 14 to 17 for only the second time ever. McCarthy said he had no warning about the visit.

“A gentleman had walked in wearing jeans, a plaid shirt and trainers. His mouth was just dry with fear. He handed me a portfolio of photographs, and there was the egg, the Holy Grail of art and antiques. He didn’t look upon a work of art at all. He saw that it was pretty and it was nice, but he was buying on intrinsic value. He bought and sold.“

The egg was thought to have been lost after the Soviets listed it for sale in 1922 as part of a policy of turning “treasures into tractors”. Eight, including the Third Imperial Egg, were thought to have been lost and two others are thought to have survived, but their locations still remain a mystery. The egg was purchased by a private collector who allowed the public to glimpse it for three days at Wartski before it disappeared from the public again. (Photos, Wartski; via CNN)

Yesterday, I posted a story comparing the real Joan Crawford at the 35th Academy Awards with the Jessica Lange version yesterday and a friend asked me if they used the real necklace in Feud: Bette and Joan that Crawford wore to the Oscars and I said I doubted it as they weren’t the same. Michael Schmidt chimed in and claimed it,

“I did it!”

Michael said,

“Here’s a comparison shot of the Van Cleef & Arpels necklace Joan Crawford wore at the 1963 Oscars and the version we did for Jessica Lange. Given the limited time and the scarcity of clear images of the original we had to work with, I suppose we got somewhat close.

I’m sure the original was borrowed for the Oscars and returned to Van Cleef & Arpels and then likely purchased by someone, but who knows? VC&A might even have it in their archives, but producers don’t like to borrow the real thing and have it on their sets for security purposes.

It’s not a perfect reproduction, but sometimes compromises are a part of the process. That’s frustrating, when you’re a perfectionist.“

I would ague, it’s almost better that it’s “similar”, in that Lange isn’t imitating Crawford as much as reinterpreting her, and that’s what Michael Schmidt has done.

Self-styled Human Ken Doll Rodrigo Alves, 33, was photographed in NYC this week, wearing an lovely outfit of raspberry-red shorts, white shirt, and Gucci belt, before he jets off to India to have his eye colour permanently changed in a risky cosmetic procedure. So far, the celebutante has spent a staggering half-million dollars on 57 surgeries to achieve the perfect look. This week’s eye-color change will be his 58th.

In an exclusive interview with the MailOnline, Rodrigo explained his new surgery (which doctors in the UK and USA have refused to perform)

‘My next surgery will be a permanent eye colour change,’ he said. ‘I wear hand painted coloured lenses made by an artist here in the USA. Each pair is $500 and I have 14 different colors.My natural eye colour is dark brown and I’m tired of wearing coloured lenses.’

Rodrigo is planning on getting a brand new eye colour called light icy grey.

He said: ‘Bright Ocular is now making a special eye colour implant light icy grey and the procedure will be performed next month in Delhi.

‘The procedure will also be filmed,’ Rodrigo explained.’The eye surgeon will implant the coloured implant in front of my natural iris making it icy grey forever.’

He said that the procedure would cost around £8,000.

‘Such procedure is also done in the USA and the UK but not for cosmetic reasons,’ the surgery fan added. ‘Some people who don’t have iris pigmentation can have these implants to give them an eye color. In my case it is for aesthetics reasons and there is no money on earth that would convince an eye doctor to do it in the USA or UK for cosmetic reasons.’

He added that he was flying to Delhi on the recommendation of friends: ‘Three of my friends had the procedure done and it looks amazing. From the reference I shall be visiting the same doctor in Delhi.’

Rodrigo is known for his love of extreme surgeries and in the past has indulged in liposuction, fillers, eight nose jobs and chest silicone implants as well as stem cell injections into his face and hair.

Much of his income has reportedly come from properties he inherited from his grandparents and he has invested almost £400,000 in attaining his distinctive look.
Rodrigo believes that plastic surgery will stop him aging.

‘I don’t want to age and I think that I’m doing a great job of it,’ he said.

He also defended himself against people who called him a ‘freak’.

‘People say I’m a freak and addicted to surgery. But I don’t want to look like anyone else. I want to stand out.’

In honor of the series finale of Girls that aired last night, The Washington Post did a very interesting piece on the Girls apartments in New York City, and several other famous NYC flats on TV throughout time. Are they at all realistic, or – like television itself – is it all a fantasy?

The Washington Post says:

Girls is an example of the strides TV shows have made in illustrating New York City living with a degree of realism. But it still falls short of getting it just right. As the HBO series comes to a close Sunday, we looked at how the entertainment industry has represented New York real estate, for better or for worse, from the Bunkers in Queens to our Friends in the West Village. (Oh, how we wish we lived with Monica Geller.)

How realistic the TV apartments of NYC are depends of course on the number of people paying the rent, the salary of those people, the square footage, and of course LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! Those apartments in Manhattan tend to be the most expensive. Check out Hannah Horvath’s apartment on Girls:

Hannah’s abode was in Greenpoint, Brooklyn where you can get a 2 bedroom / 1 bathroom apartment for around $2,500 a month. That isn’t TOO bad if you live in a big city, but if you consider what Hannah does (or doesn’t do) for work and that there have been stretches when she lived in the apartment alone, it doesn’t really add up.

Back in the 1950’s, Lucy and Desi lived in Manhattan in their one-bedroom apartment for – as the show claimed – $125 per month which is pretty realistic compared to the classifieds in the Village Voice around the same time – about $150 a month near the East River. And since Ricky was famous, it totally made sense for them to live there.

The Like That program at Sunshine House in Winnipeg is taking orders all day today for its third annual taco sale, with deliveries going out over the lunch hour Thursday.

The tacos will be hand-delivered by local drag queens and drag kings to recipients’ workplaces and homes between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

“I think that our queens and our kings are really stepping it up this year,” said Bobbi Hudon, the program’s volunteer co-ordinator. “This is going to be an exciting day and I think that everybody should experience this at least once in their lives,” said Bobbi Hudon, the program’s volunteer co-ordinator.

“Like, you have to have lunch delivered to you by drag entertainers at least once in your life.”

Well, yes! At LEAST once.

Every Monday and Wednesday, dozens of Like That participants can discover their gender and sexual identity in a safe and inclusive setting, in part by exploring drag and performing.

The program operates out of Sunshine House, a community drop-in center that focuses on harm reduction, population health promotion and community building.

For some of Thursday’s taco delivery volunteers, it could be one of their first public appearances in drag, Hudon said.

“A lot of them will wind up being new kings or queens or anything in between, and so this may be one of their first opportunities to go out into the community and immerse themselves with supporters of the Like That program,” he said.

“This is their way of expressing themselves internally, but it also works as outreach externally, so we’re able to create community through these new queens and these new kings.”
