Breaking News: Grindr Cannibal Killed In Prison

0
0

The 50-year-old meth-addict (above) who murdered, then ate, a gay police officer after a Grindr date gone horribly wrong, has died in prison custody.

Via the Guardian:

Stefano Brizzi, 50, was found guilty last month of murdering Gordon Semple, 59, in April. A court heard that he lured the officer to his London flat for sex and drugs before strangling him, dismembering his body and dissolving it in acid in a bath, copying the method of corpse disposal used by Walter White, the lead character in the US TV series.

In gruesome details that emerged in court, the prosecution also accused Brizzi of cannibalism after bite marks were found on the dead officer’s rib and it was revealed that the Italian had cooked other parts of his body.

Brizzi admitted dismembering and disposing of Semple’s body, but claimed the officer, who served in the Metropolitan police for 30 years, died accidentally during a sex game after a dog leash around his neck slipped.

Simple apparently met Brizzi on Grindr:

The court heard that on the day of the murder Brizzi was tired and bad-tempered because he had been engaged in heavy drug use, had not slept and had been let down by someone else on Grindr. He was also dissatisfied with Semple’s appearance, describing him as fat, ugly and unattractive.

Brizzi and Semple had been trying to persuade other gay men in the area to join them for a “chemsex” party, but when one man agreed to join them he was sent away by Brizzi, who told him via intercom: “We’re having a situation here. Someone fell ill but we’re taking care of it. So our party is cancelled,” the court was told.

Pathologists believe he killed the officer after the pair had sex.

Semple’s body was discovered on April 7 after a neighbor alerted police to a “smell of death” coming from the flat. Semple’s dismembered body was found dissolving in a bath of acid. Brizzi reportedly dumped body parts in the River Thames and attempted to boil his flesh away. He also ate some of it:

Officers found a pool of fat and grease inside Brizzi’s oven, which had a blood-stained handle. Semple’s DNA was found on chopsticks, a cooking pot and the oven.

Brizzi, who answered the door to officers wearing pink underpants, initially confessed to deliberately killing Semple, telling police at the scene: “Satan told me to.” But he later changed his account, claiming it was an accident caused by sexual asphyxiation.

According to the court, Brizzi’s behavior was due primarily to his Crystal meth addiction:

The judge said there were “terrible features” of the case and that Brizzi’s drug addiction had ruined his life. He added: “Regret you express now for Mr Semple’s death has to be seen against what you did over a number of days to his body.”

The defendant sat in the dock with his head bowed throughout the hearing.

Before the murder, Brizzi had been a £70,000-a-year web developer at Morgan Stanley, but lost his job because of his crystal meth addiction. The court was told he sought help from a users’ support group, whose organiser described how Brizzi had been obsessed with Breaking Bad.

‘Cash Me Outside’ Girl Gets Physical on Spirit Airlines and Is Escorted Off the Plane

Danielle Bregoli – aka the ‘Cash me Outside’ girl – punched a female fellow passenger on her Spirit Airlines flight before takeoff at LAX last night after the woman got into an altercation with her mother.

I assumed Danielle hated her mother since she treats her like a piece of garbage, but I guess she’s the only one who’s allowed to disrespect her mom. All three women were escorted off of the airplane, but no one was arrested.

Golden Girls-Themed Cafe Opens in Washington Heights

Rue La Rue Café, the eagerly anticipated Golden Girls-themed cafe in Washington Heights, has “soft opened” for business – serving up breakfast and lunch on a limited schedule right now, and hoping to debut dinner service soon.

Owner Michael J. LaRue says the new eatery is open Tuesday through Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., as a trial run of sorts.

“It’s just to give the staff a chance to practice,” LaRue told Gothamist. “As soon as I’m confident we’re ready, we’ll set dinner hours as well.” LaRue says that despite the clipped hours, “we were packed Saturday and Sunday,” with patrons sampling recipes from Rue McClanahan‘s personal collection as well as dishes Golden Girls fans may remember from the show (cheesecake!)

LaRue was close friends with McClanahan, who says his cafe is filled with memorabilia and photos of the star, as well as a timeline of McClanahan’s life.

From Gothamist:

One of Rue La Rue Café’s biggest expected draws is its collection of memorabilia—LaRue inherited McClanahan’s personal belongings and show business gear after she died in 2010, which he stores in Corona, Queens. Selections of her stuff will be on display. “I have a whole warehouse going to keep rotating memorabilia and costumes, forever,” LaRue said.

Rue La Rue Cafe is now open at 4396 Broadway in Washington Heights, website.

Below, the Betty White cake and an assortment of Golden Girls-themed cheesecakes.

February 8th: It’s YOUR Birthday, Bitch!

#BornThisDay: James Dean

0
0

February 8, 1931James Dean:

“Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today.”

I had the above Dennis Stock photograph from 1955 as a poster in my dorm room in 1972. Original, huh? Because no other young male actor in the late 1960s and early 1970s was looking to James Dean for inspiration.

Until he was 18-years-old his name was Jimmy Dean. He lived in a small town in Indiana, and he was a short, nerdy, basketball player with coke-bottle glasses and a big cowlick.

Six decades after the meteoric career of James Byron Dean, one thing now seems clear to me: This talented young man was truly gay. Just take a look at the outtakes from Rebel Without A Cause (1955) where the sexual heat between Dean and Sal Mineo is fully displayed. His affairs with men, mostly older father figures, are well documented now, more than a half century later, even if they were smartly hidden during his lifetime.

Dean had been groomed by the studios to be the vulnerable young male innocent, tormented, longing for freedom, and the true love of the right girl. They made sure that he acted it out in real life by setting him up on dates with starlets to be seen with in public.

In 1951, Dean had a job parking cars at CBS Studios. That is where he met Rodgers Brackett. Dean was a struggling 20-year-old actor and Bracket was a very successful 35-year-old executive at a prestigious advertising agency. The two guys began a romance and Dean moved into Brackett’s stylish Los Angeles apartment. Brackett bought Dean nice clothes, took him to the best restaurants and introduced him to the people who might help his career. It was a classic “kept boy” scenario.

Dean’s agent expressed concern about the young actor living with a known homosexual. Dean’s explanation was: “I have my own room”. When his friends would whisper that his roommate was “a queer”, Dean answered: “Yeah, I know”. It may have appeared that Dean was using Brackett to further his career, but they remained buddies for the rest of Dean’s short life.

Brackett gave money so that Dean could move to NYC to study at The Actors Studio with famed acting coach Lee Strasberg. At The Actors Studio, Dean took a class taught by Marlon Brandon. He stayed after the class to meet Brando, and they began a year long affair, but their friendship lasted forever. Dean emulated and adored his older actor buddy. Dean’s method of acting, even his gestures, was a copy of Brando.

Later in life, Brando wrote: “Like a large number of men, I too have had homosexual experiences, and I am not ashamed.”

Dean’s first role on Broadway was as a boy who seduces an older male tourist in André Gide‘s The Immoralist (1954). A month later he was back in Hollywood to film East Of Eden.  Dean had been introduced to the director, Elia Kazan, by Brackett.

Noreen Nash, who played Lana Lane in Giant (1956), wrote how Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson had a bet over who would have Dean first. It seems that Hudson won that bet just a few days after shooting began. With Sal Mineo in the cast also, it must have been hot in Marfa, Texas during the shoot.

I have read several accounts that Dean was bisexual, but screenwriter Gavin Lambert told me that everyone in Hollywood understood that he was only interested in men, and that his one great love was his Rebel Without A Cause director Nicholas Ray.

The studios set Dean up on those dates with women, but privately he dated actors Clifton Webb, Brando, and Jack Simmons. Dean avoided the draft by registering as a homosexual.

Rumors about Dean’s gayness began to spread as his fame increased and he quickly became engaged to fellow actor Pier Angeli. She abruptly broke off their engagement leading to even more gossip. In that era, like today, it was absolutely impossible for male leading men to be openly gay, and most gay actors like Rock Hudson agreed to the studio arranged marriages.

62 years ago, this September, while driving in his new Porsche 550 Spyder on US 101 near Salinas, Dean left this world. Forever after, there would be no reality left to mess up his myth. He was just 24-years-old. Dean famously enjoyed driving fast cars. George Stevens, the director of Giant banned him from driving during the shoot. In a public service announcement Dean filmed just two months before his car crash, he urged young drivers to practice highway safety, saying:

“The life you save might be mine.”

Dean’s name appears in the screen credits of only the three films, but he also worked as an extra in at least four other films: Sam Fuller’s war drama Fixed Bayonets! (1951), the Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis comedy Sailor Beware (1952), Has Anybody Seen My Gal (1952) starring Hudson, and the John Wayne football drama Trouble Along The Way (1953). He performed in dozens of early 1950s television shows like Kraft Television Theatre, Robert Montgomery Presents, and General Electric Theatre. One of his earliest roles was for the CBS series Omnibus in an episode titled Glory In The Flower, with Dean portraying just the type of disaffected youth he would later immortalize.

Dean became the first actor to earn a posthumous Oscar nomination and the only actor to earn two posthumous nods. He lost both times. He wasn’t nominated for his defining role.

Tennessee Williams wrote of Dean:

“He was a rare combination of deep sensuality and deep sweetness.”

It is because Dean only starred in three films and lived a very short life that he has become a symbol for so many different and contrasting things. Had Dean lived to enjoy the stardom that he achieved after his death, he probably would have eventually ceased to be such an enigma. Today, Dean remains such a romantic and misunderstood figure. At least it can be said that he never made a bad film.

James Dean would have been 86 today. His death was tragic, ironic and iconic. I am sort of grateful that he didn’t live long enough to have played Liza Minnelli’s love interest on the reboot of Arrested Development. Or maybe that would have been really tasty.

“Being a good actor isn’t easy. Being a man is even harder. I want to be both before I’m done.”

#FirstListen: Is K. Flay’s “Black Wave” the FU Protest Anthem We’ve Been Waiting For…?

This morning I got up and Talking Head‘s Life During Wartime was in my head so I posted the lyrics. It’s a 40 year-old song but it fit my mood perfectly in these dark times.

Artist K. Flay‘s brand-new song Black Wave is custom-made for the days we are facing too. She says it’s,

about facing something immense and menacing and choosing not to cower, but to rise up.

Her second full-length album — Every Where Is Some Where — will be released on April 7th. Right now she’s got another new song climbing the charts, the infectious Blood in the Cut.

Flay goes on to say about the album,

I thought a lot about the places that shape us, and how, in turn, we shape those places in our minds. As human beings living on earth right now, we find ourselves in a very particular where. The planet is getting warmer, the internet is getting bigger, the stakes are as grave as ever.

The President of the United States of America is a television celebrity who openly degrades those unlike him (non-white, non-male, non-straight, non-wealthy, non-citizen), whose chief strategist has spent much of his career promoting White Nationalism in a country meant to foster diversity and progress through tolerance. a president who intends to limit our freedoms, foment hatred & silence dissent…

And yet. Every place, every where, is just some place, some where. It’s all arbitrary and fucked up and sometimes lucky. I think you can understand the fact of your own smallness in this world while still celebrating the very particular singularity of who you are and where you happen to stand.“

What she said.

Way, Way, Wayback Wednesday News: Was Judy Garland Molested by Munchkins?

0
0

A posthumous new memoir by Sid Luft (Judy Garland‘s ex-husband) claims the Wizard of Oz actress was “repeatedly molested” by the Munchkins on set.

‘They would make Judy’s life miserable on set by putting their hands under her dress … The men were 40 or more years old,” wrote the producer and business manager, who died in 2005.

“They thought they could get away with anything because they were so small,” he added.

Garland described their behavior shortly before her death. In a 1967 interview with Jack Paar, Judy Garland said,

“They were little drunks … They got smashed every night, and they picked them up in butterfly nets.”

Says People magazine: Rumors about the actors’ bad behavior — ranging from Caligula-like orgies to gambling to prostitution — have been floating around Hollywood for decades. Julie Lugo Cerra, whose father worked near the Wizard of Oz studio in Culver City, CA at the time, told NPR that the hundred and twenty some Munchkin actors “had a really good time” during filming because, for many of them, it was their first time interacting with other little people.

“They were having a very good time and they celebrated a lot,” Cerra added. Her father told her that the Munchkin actors “were all over the place” … “and they would pile them into cars, and they would be even under the dashboards because you could get so many in.” While she denied many of the rumors, Cerra said, “I’m sure that they had a very good time, and I’m sure that most of them remembered it for the rest of their lives.”

You can purchase Sid Luft’s memoir – which details his love affair with Garland, including her drug addictions and multiple suicide attempts – here.

Hiddleston Talks HiddleSwift: “Of Course It Was Real!”

Tom Hiddleston the lovable goofball whose career took a hit when he dated, then broke up with, Taylor Swift, talked to GQ magazine about their scandalous, three-month relationship. Was it real? A publicist’s concoction? What really went down between them?

On Hiddleswift: “Of course it was real. We decided to go out for dinner, we decided to travel… She’s incredible. A relationship in the limelight… A relationship always takes work. And it’s not just the limelight. It’s everything else…. I have to be so psychologically strong about not letting other people’s interpretations about my life affect my life. A relationship exists between two people. We will always know what it was. The narratives that are out there altogether have been extrapolated from pictures that were taken without consent or permission, with no context. And I’m still trying to work out a way of having a personal life and protecting it, but also without hiding. ”

On Taylor: “I only know the woman I met. She’s incredible. She’s generous and kind and lovely, and we had the best time.”

On the I ♥︎ T.S. shirt: “The truth is, it was the Fourth of July and a public holiday and we were playing a game and I slipped and hurt my back. And I wanted to protect the graze from the sun and said, ‘Does anyone have a T-shirt?’ And one of her friends said, ‘I’ve got this. The friend pulled out the “I ♥ T.S.” tank top and we all laughed about it. It was a joke. It was a joke, among friends. I was just surprised that it got so much attention. The tank top became an emblem of this thing.”

On having no regrets: “You have to fight for love. You can’t live in fear of what people might say. You know, you have to be true to yourself. I’m not going to live my life in hiding.”
