Meet Nicolás Eduardo Aramayo:

Nicolás Eduardo Aramayo is a senior at Yale University. They uses the pronouns they/them/their, and identifies as nonbinary and trans masculine. Here’s Nick in their own words:

“I wish people would understand and accept that gender is not an inherent part of being human. Gender is constructed by societies. That does not mean that it does not exist! It simply means that we should be critical of essentializing gender and should instead be open to changing ideas around it because it is a concept that was constructed and can just as easily be adapted or changed.”

The hostess with the mostest: or shall we say, the roast?! Samantha Bee and her team are organizing a counter-event the night of the White House Correspondent Dinner in Washington on April 29th. This alternative gala, which is being called “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner” and was announced on Monday, will be at the Willard Hotel. Ms. Bee said that it was not an attempt to comment on or compete with that other, better-known banquet, but a night to include jokes about Mr. Trump that she and like-minded comedians want to make.

“We’re not trying to supersede it,” she said in a telephone interview. “We just want to be there in case something happens — or doesn’t happen — and ensure that we get to properly roast the president.”

Ms. Bee said that she and her “Full Frontal” producers got the idea for their event after Mr. Trump’s election in November.

“We were talking out loud about whether we thought the White House Correspondents’ dinner would change during a Trump presidency, or if it would even exist,” she said. “And then we thought, Why don’t we just do one, just to do it in the way that we would want it done if we were hosting it?”

The “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner” will probably be shown on TBS in some form; Ms. Bee said that those details were still being worked out, as was a lineup of talent.

“We have binders full of people, but we don’t have any specifics to offer yet,” she said. Ms. Bee said that proceeds from her event would go to the Committee to Protect Journalists.

The decades-old dinner held by the Correspondents’ Association, which advocates press accessibility at the White House and gives out journalism awards and scholarships, has come under scrutiny in recent years.

Some news organizations and observers regard it as a too-chummy atmosphere for reporters to hobnob with the officials they are supposed to be covering objectively and adversarially. (The New York Times stopped sending journalists to the dinner in 2008.)

I don’t know why this would be controversial, it’s been nearly 20 years since Jason Biggs got it on with a warm apple pie in American Pie. But Sundance was all aflutter last week over a sex scene in the upcoming Call Me By Your Name involving a 17-year-old boy, his 24-year-old tutor, and a bit of, um, self-pleasuring via a split-open peach.

The movie is based on André Aciman‘s 2007 novel of the same name and stars yummy Armie Hammer and Timothee Chalemet.

Below, director Luca Guadagnino explains the controversial scene, via interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

Armie plays a 24-year-old student who visits Italy in the 1980s and strikes up a romance with a 17-year-old boy, played by Timothee. The film is based on a book that features some explicit love scenes.

“Call it by luck of the universe. Armie and I really hit it off,” Timothee told Variety. “I haven’t had a friendship like that with someone that I’d worked with. There was something about being plucked from our respective areas and being brought to this small town in Italy where we really had to depend on each other. This wasn’t the plan, but we became such good friends that it made the chemistry onscreen palpable, because we really did like each other in real life.”

Call Me By Your Name will be released by Sony Pictures Classics, but it doesn’t have a release date yet.

Brian Douglas is 50 years old. He was born intersex, was operated on as infant and raised as a girl. But for much of his life, he never felt comfortable with that gender assignment. Now he’s living as a man.

Here’s Brian Douglas in his own words:  “I wish people knew that gender, for millions, is not as simple as an ‘F’ or ‘M’ on a birth certificate. For millions of people around the globe, gender is NOT ‘cut and dry’ nor is it ‘black and white.’ I wish everyone would stop trying to force someone who is gender diverse to conform… stop trying to fix them. Just let them be in their own uniqueness. They have a right to their own individuality… embrace them.”

We all know that Azealia Banks speaks before she thinks most days on social media. Well, the Banks storm has hit again, but this time she picked a fight with the wrong woman who happens to be Rihanna. The argument began when Rihanna made her feelings public about the Muslim Ban instigated by Emperor Trumpatine.

Banks went in, and both of the women started a social media war that somehow ended with chicken nuggets and both of their cell phones numbers being leaked!

The two deleted their numbers, and have gone back to posting their regular glam photos. While Rihanna’s NAVY swarmed in to protect the Barbados queen, Banks was left to fend for herself.

Hopefully Banks will get her head in the game, and stop jumping on people who have her best interests at heart..

As you may already know, #DeleteUber happened this past weekend, thanks to real life Scrooge – Uber’s CEO Kalanick – in which he stated in a (non-spam) e-mail to Uber employees that they “need to work with Trump.” That horrible catchphrase aside, he made drivers show up at the Immigration Ban protest at LAX in Los Angeles, California where protestors were fighting for basic human rights, so he could exploit them/staffers for his own commercial gain.

We here at WOW want to make things in your life easier now that the political climate is seriously outta pocket these days. A lot of our readers were wondering how to delete their Uber account (not just the app off their phone), so I put together an easy how-to so you can say #boybye, Uber, and hello, Lyft!

Travis Kalanick and his company endorsed breaking a picket line striking in solidarity for basic human rights this weekend, thereby turning his employees into scabs for his own economical gain and actively ignored the protest that affects the moral fabric of our country. Kalanick actively colludes, collaborates, and empowers fascists. He enriches himself economically while exploiting his employees. To me, his tactics are almost alkaline with Trump’s and since he’ll never be my president, you’ll never be my ride service again.

STEP 5: Now go into your Uber App’s settings, click LOG OUT, and delete the app!

“Starting today, we will accept and register youth in the Cub and Boy Scout programs based on the gender identity indicated on the application.” The Boy Scouts of America made the official announcement today lifting its ban on transgender boys joining the organization, saying that it would abandon a policy that determined eligibility by using the sex listed on birth certificates to Buzzfeed.

“Starting today, we will accept and register youth in the Cub and Boy Scout programs based on the gender identity indicated on the application,” Effie Delimarkos, a spokesperson for the scouting group with more than 2 million members, said in a statement to BuzzFeed News.

She added that the group’s previous “approach is no longer sufficient” given different community expectations and laws.

Local laws and the old policy may have clashed when a Boy Scouts chapter in New Jersey expelled eight-year-old Joe Maldonado, a transgender boy, last year. As CNN reported, Delimarkos explained at the time Maldonado did not “meet the eligibility requirements to participate in this program.”

But Maldonado planned to file a discrimination complaint with the state’s Department of Law and Public Safety’s Civil Rights, the Jersey Journal reported Friday. Maldonado’s complaint alleged the group violated a state law that bars discrimination in places of public accommodation on the basis of gender identity.

“While we offer a number of programs that serve all youth, Cub Scouting and Boy Scouting are specifically designed to meet the needs of boys. For more than 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America, along with schools, youth sports, and other youth organizations, have ultimately deferred to the information on an individual’s birth certificate to determine eligibility for our single-gender programs,” Delimarkos said in explaining the thinking behind the new policy. “However, that approach is no longer sufficient as communities and state laws are interpreting gender identity differently, and these laws vary widely from state to state.”

After a child is registered, she added, “our organization’s local councils will help find units that can provide for the best interest of the child.”

January 31, 1921– Carol Channing:

“The first 80 years are the hardest.”

In just six weeks, Gay Icon Bette Midler returns to the Broadway stage after 50 years. The announcement last year that she would be playing Dolly Levi in a new production of Hello, Dolly! caused some Musical Theatre fans to faint, and the comment sections of posts on The Facebook were filled with opinions, both smart and cruel, about the casting.

It was one of my most favorite musicals as a gay youth. I had the Original Broadway Cast album of Hello, Dolly!, and I augmented my collection with Hello, Dolly! cast recordings featuring Pearl Bailey and Ethel Merman, plus the Japanese and Finnish productions, along with the London cast featuring Mary Martin as Dolly Levi. But none of them was better than the original with Carol Channing.

Channing is a singing, dancing, acting force of nature, one of Broadway’s biggest stars, and a true Gay Icon. Yet, even with all her fabulous talent, it is difficult to pinpoint exactly what is Channing’s appeal. Her face and voice are instantly recognizable, yet in her long career, she has worked in only five films, including the LSD themed comedy Skidoo (1968), often cited as one of the worst movies ever. Channing did make one good film, and she was rewarded with a nomination for an Academy Award and won a Golden Globe for her work in the charming Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967), playing off the late, great Mary Tyler Moore. But, Channing’s real triumphs have always been on the Broadway stage. And what’s wrong with that?

Channing is beautiful in a truly original way. She was never a bombshell, and she is rather demented without being risqué or grotesque. She’s a belter in the manner of Merman, but without being as brassy. She was often cast as a gold-digger even though there is nothing seductive about her persona. I shouldn’t “get” her, but I certainly do, although I am not quite sure her personality and appeal makes sense in a new Post-Gay world.

Channing’s contradictions made a little more sense when I read her engaging autobiography Just Lucky I Guess: A Memoir Of Sorts (2002). In the book, Channing is candid about her messy break-up with her husband of 41 years, Charles Lowe. Carol discloses that she and Lowe had only ever had sex “once or twice in our 41-year marriage and that was 41 years ago”. She stuck to her wedding vows the whole time and didn’t engage a liaison with anyone else. What opportunities did she pass up? Can you imagine? Channing might have slept with JFK, Frank Sinatra or Warren Beatty.

Lowe spent most of Channing’s hard earned money, and to make her tale even more bizarre, her husband turned out to be a big ol’ homo. A Gay Icon with a gay husband is shocking, but it isn’t as shocking as her 41-year dry spell. Even after 37 years, The Husband and I manage to knock one out once a year on our anniversary.

Channing’s memoir also reveals that her grandfather was African-American. In 1937, when she was 16-years-old and ready to leave San Francisco for Bennington College in Vermont, her mother told her that her father’s birth certificate had marked him as “colored,” because his mother was black.

Even with her resilient image, Channing has had her hardships. She triumphed on Broadway as fortune hunting Lorelei Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1949), but Hollywood cast Marilyn Monroe in the 1953 film version. Monroe had seen the stage show over and over, borrowing Channing’s best bits. Channing really owned the role of Dolly Levi. She is the first and most famous star in the role. But, director Gene Kelly thought casting her was too risky and gave the role to Barbra Streisand who was decades too young for the role (Streisand would be perfect now) for his much-anticipated film version in 1969.

It is so wonderful to have a film record of Channing’s special charms. I just love her so much in Thoroughly Modern Millie, playing wealthy, madcap matron Muzzy Van Hossmere. She made her entrance flying in a biplane, quaffing champagne. She blew my little 13-year-old gay mind with her two big musical numbers Jazz Baby, where she tap dances on a xylophone, and Do It Again which begins with Channing being shot out from a cannon. Channing taught me about all about Camp.

I saw her live only once, in a tawdry mess of a musical, Lorelei (1974), a sort of sequel to Gentlemen Prefer Blonds. The show was a stinker, but Channing managed to still wow the audience with her crack comic timing and considerable star wattage.

Channing played Dolly Levi over 5,000 times to packed houses around the globe without ever missing a performance. I feel sorry for her understudies. On tour with Hello, Dolly! in the 1960s, Channing never missed a performance even while undergoing chemotherapy. I did 28 performances of Hello, Dolly! at Seattle Civic Light Opera in 1989, playing Horace Vandergelder, not Dolly. I’m also noted for never missing a performance.

President Richard Nixon’s infamous Enemies List included journalists, labor leaders, antiwar activists and civil rights activists; also listed were unabashed liberal actors Paul Newman, Barbra Streisand and Channing.

The first Super Bowl Games in the 1960s only featured college marching bands for the half-time show. Channing was the first celebrity to entertain when she sang When the Saints Go Marching In at Super Bowl IV in 1970. Thankfully, without a wardrobe malfunction.

In May 2003, Channing married her fourth husband, Harry Kullijian. He was Channing’s junior high school sweetheart, who reunited with her after she mentioned him fondly in that memoir. They had nearly a decade together before Kullijian left this world at the end of 2011.The school’s auditorium was renamed The Carol Channing Theatre in her honor. The city of San Francisco proclaimed a Carol Channing Day, celebrating her advocacy of Gay Rights and she has regularly acted as the host of the Gay Pride events around the country.

Channing:

“The gay community is responsible for so much of my success, and I love them. It’s a mutual love affair, really. They make the better audiences too, because they laugh often and loudly. Applause is obligatory, but laughter is a reward, and gay audiences reward me often. Years ago, I was made their Queen in San Francisco, which is so much better than legend or icon. I was told that on that day, there wasn’t a blonde wig to be found in stores. Isn’t that wonderful? I don’t like to think of myself as a gay icon. The moment you do, then you’re not. There are so many talented people that have been called a ‘gay icon’ that have no similarities at all.”

I recommend the excellent HBO documentary Carol Channing: Larger Than Life, available On Demand. Channing continues to perform in her 95th year. I have friends that know her and they have let me know that she is a total sweetheart. Do not confuse her with Channing Tatum as I sometimes do.

Yesterday rumors were flying and many news sources (including The Wow Report) said that the next thing on Trump‘s agenda was to go after LGBT rights. But he has vowed today to continue to protect the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people working for federal contractors under an executive order signed by his predecessor President Barack Obama in 2014. The White House said in a statement,

“The President is proud to have been the first ever GOP (Republican) nominee to mention the LGBTQ community in his nomination acceptance speech, pledging then to protect the community from violence and oppression.“

Coming from an administration that believes in #AlternativeFacts, a known Liar-in-Chief and given Vice President Mike Pence‘s record on LGBT rights, I don’t feel THAT reassured, but I’ll take it anyway. No #GayBan –for now.

“Good news“

But twitter wasn’t ready to celebrate the news just yet.

Dory arrives in America with her friends Marlon and Nemo and she ends up at the Marine Life Institute behind a large wall and they all have to get over the wall. And, you won’t believe it, but that wall has almost no effect in keeping them out.

Even though Dory gets into America she ends up separated from her family, but the other animals help Dory. Animals that don’t even need her, animals that don’t even have anything in common with her. They help her even though they’re completely different colors, because that’s what you do when you see someone in need. You help them.”

Judy Garland’s stone in Ferncliff Cemetery

Judy Garland’s remains were exhumed and sent from the Ferncliff Mausoleum in Hartsdale, New York to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles at the request of her daughter, Liza Minnelli.

Garland was apparently moved to the West Coast because Ferncliff didn’t have enough room for the rest of her family — including children Liza, 70; Lorna Luft, 64; and Joey Luft, 61 — who want to be be buried alongside her.

The actress will be re-interred at the star-studded Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where other celebs like filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille and George Harrison are spending the rest of eternity. Btw, Garland was already in A-list company at Ferncliff where Joan Crawford is also interred. A Hollywood Forever spokesman declined to provide details on where exactly Garland’s new resting place would be,

“At this time, it’s a private family matter.”

But what will happen to her old “slot” and headstone?

“We haven’t decided what to do yet but we think because she’s been here so long, we will just leave it here and memorialize her.“

As a side note, one of Judy’s biggest fans won’t be “Over the Rainbow” about this news. The unidentified super-fan purchased the space next to Garland — a piece of real estate that sells for up to $15,000.

“It’s funny because there’s a man who specifically flew in from California because he is a big fan of hers.

He purchased a plot near her so when he dies he could be next to her. I don’t know what he is going to do now.”

Judy had been interred at Ferndale in crypt No. 31, Unit 9 since 1969, when she died of a barbiturate overdose.

Hava Celebic, an 80-year-old woman from the Bosnian village of Crnjevo, has been cleaning people’s eyes by licking their eyeballs for decades now. She says her patients turn to her out of desperation, after modern medical procedures fail to solve their problems, and that her tongue is apparently infallible when it comes to locating and removing various debris – pieces of lead, iron, coal, sawdust and glass – from people’s eyes.

“There are a lot of those that modern medicine could not help,” Nana Hava said. “They came to me out of the hospital with swollen eyes, I clean them and remove the speck.” The tongue healer claims she has helped cure over 5,000 people in her lifetime. In fact, Hava is so valuable to those who believe in her gift that she’s been told that when she dies. villagers will cut off her tongue so that it can continue to cure people.

How does she do it?

According to Oddity Central:

It’s fairly simple, actually. She starts by sterilizing her mouth with alcohol, after which she will ask the patient to hold their eyelid raised, and begin searching for speck in the eye socket with the tip of her tongue. Sounds pretty disgusting, doesn’t it. Her kids seems to agree, which is why she has been unable to pass down the bizarre practice to them.

“Unfortunately I can not pass this to my descendants, because my children are too disgusted to put their tongue on someone’s eye,” the woman says. Can you really blame them though?

Nana Hava usually charges 10 euros per cleaning procedure, but she makes an exception for those who can’t afford to pay.

“I don’t charge licking for those who are not employed and have no money but my service fee normally costs around 10 Euros,” she said.

Well if this doesn’t brighten your day, I don’t know what will. Variety just announced that Lifetime has greenlit a film about the Menendez brothers and that – HOLD ON TO YOR WIG – Courtney Love will play the mother, Kitty Menendez!

Oh, this is going to be fun.

Lifetime’s TV movie will reveal the extreme abuse the brothers endured at their father’s hands, while their mother looked the other way.

Based on the true story, the flick explores the inner lives and motivation behind the murders of entertainment executive Jose Menendez and his wife Kitty at the hands of their sons Lyle and Erik in 1989. During their trial, the brothers testified that the murders were driven by a lifetime of sexual abuse by their father. They were ultimately sentenced to life without parole, and both remain in separate prisons today.

And if all that wasn’t fabulous enough…

Lifetime’s untitled Menendez brothers film will be directed by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato. The script is written by Abdi Nazemian. Production will begin next month in Vancouver.
