Major side-eye around the internets today as news of a Young Adult novel called Max by Sarah Cohen-Scali is being published in America by Fierce Reads, the YA home of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group.

The book’s cover – depicting a fetus wearing a swastika – is generating the lion’s share of controversy on Twitter, for obvious reasons. Many YA authors and fans are already upset, as perhaps this isn’t quite the time in our country’s history to have a young, Nazi protagonist.

The synopsis:

“Nazi Germany. 1936. The Lebensborn program is going strong as German women are carefully selected by the Nazis and recruited to give birth to new representatives of the Aryan race. Inside one of these women is Max, a fetus waiting to be born and fulfill his destiny as the perfect Aryan.

“Max is taken away from his birth mother as soon as he enters the world. He will be raised under the leadership and ideologies of the Nazi Party. As he grows up without a mom, without any affection or tenderness, according to Nazi educational precepts, he soon becomes the mascot of the program. But things don’t go according to plan.”

And here’s the original synopsis from the French edition:

“19 April 1936. I am going to be born in a minute, I am going to be born on the 20th of April, the anniversary of our Fürher, so I shall be blessed by the Germanic gods and will see in me the firstborn of The supreme race The Aryan race The one who will now reign supreme over the world I am the child of the future Designed without love Without God Without law Without anything other than strength and rage I will bite Instead of breastfeeding I will scream instead of chirping I will hate instead of loving Heil Hitler!”

A fascinating and disturbing historical fable that can not be let loose. A shock reading, remarkably documented, of which one does not emerge unharmed.

Hmmm. Guess Macmillan is one-upping Simon & Schuster’s Milo Yiannopoulos book. Prepare for alt-right lit to become a “thing,” I suppose.

Vivica A Fox showed her homophobic true colors last week on the on The Breakfast Club radio show when she strongly objected to the idea of gays coming out to see her strippers.

“Aw, hell no,” she said, then doubled down on that, saying: “Back all that up. No! NO!”

Now TMZ is reporting that her comments pissed off Jean-Claude LaMarre, the director and producer who made her male stripper reality show possible – and now he plans on cutting ties with her.

He tells TMZ … “The comments were out of order, and it does not represent our attitudes toward the LGBT community. All are welcomed.” He added, “Vivica speaks for herself not the business or the show.”

LaMarre will remain an Executive Producer on the reality show, and made it clear he wants Black Magic to succeed – he just doesn’t want to work with Vivica anymore.

Emerging in 2018, comes a new convention titled Universal Fan Con, that will focus on the inclusion of women, the LGBTQ community, the disabled and people of color! The Kickstarter that has greatly surpassed it’s asking amount, mentioned why they thought this type of con is important for our existing society.

We’ve all been to cons. We do so because we are proud geeks, who love geek culture and want to celebrate its awesomeness with others who love it as much as we do. We go because we relate to the characters, so much so that some of us dress up like our favorite heroes or villains. But often times, we don’t see the incredible inclusiveness that is in our communities as a whole represented at cons.

Many cons, no matter how well meaning, limit the idea of inclusion to a diversity panel, never really integrating the spirit of an inclusive world into the fabric of the con itself. This can leave many feeling isolated and marginalized, in essence, like the outsiders so many of our heroes tend to be.

Yet, so often festivals that are focused on “diversity,” end up being divisive, more about forming exclusive groups instead of building an inclusive respect for differences. For the fan community this is all too common. Universal Fan Con provides an inclusive forum to celebrate intrinsic personal and interest-based identities, offering different groups a place to revel in fandom, while also experiencing the kick-ass otherworldly immersion that an epic con can bring! According to this JUST RELEASED dossier from Buzzfeed – which is “a collection of memos written over a period of months” – a lot!

According to Buzzfeed News, a British Inteligence officer has come forward with the dossier, which is unverified, claiming that Russia has compromising information about President-elect Donald Trump.

From Buzzfeed:

A dossier making explosive — but unverified — allegations that the Russian government has been “cultivating, supporting and assisting” President-elect Donald Trump for years and gained compromising information about him has been circulating among elected officials, intelligence agents, and journalists for weeks.

The dossier, which is a collection of memos written over a period of months, includes specific, unverified, and potentially unverifiable allegations of contact between Trump aides and Russian operatives, and graphic claims of sexual acts documented by the Russians. CNN reported Tuesday that a two-page synopsis of the report was given to President Barack Obama and Trump.

Now BuzzFeed News is publishing the full document so that Americans can make up their own minds about allegations about the president-elect that have circulated at the highest levels of the US government.

The document was prepared for political opponents of Trump by a person who is understood to be a former British intelligence agent. It is not just unconfirmed: It includes some clear errors. The report misspells the name of one company, “Alpha Group,” throughout. It is Alfa Group. The report says the settlement of Barvikha, outside Moscow, is “reserved for the residences of the top leadership and their close associates.” It is not reserved for anyone, and it is also populated by the very wealthy.

The documents have circulated for months and acquired a kind of legendary status among journalists, lawmakers, and intelligence officials who have seen them. Mother Jones writer David Corn referred to the documents in a late October column. Harry Reid spokesman Adam Jentleson tweeted Tuesday that the outgoing Senate Democratic leader had seen the documents before writing a public letter to FBI Director James Comey about Trump’s ties to Russia. And CNN reported Tuesday that Arizona Republican John McCain gave a “full copy” of the memos to Comey on Dec. 9, but that the FBI already had copies of many of the memos.

Last year I wrote about the upcoming film Urban Myths, with Joseph Fiennes cast as Michael Jackson. Yes THAT Michael Jackson. It seems like a joke, but the 9/11 road trip Jackson reportedly did or did not do with Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor has been made into a film. The new trailer for the series—which debuts in the U.K. on January 19 —that also serves up appearances by Bob Dylan, Timothy Leary, and –wait for it– Hitler.

The series centers on popular urban myths, like the idea that Cary Grant (as played by Ben Chaplin) might have introduced Timothy Leary (Game Of Thrones’ Aidan Gillen) to LSD, or the story that Dylan showed up at the wrong person’s house and asking to be brought to Dave. The casting is top-notch, especially Stockard Channing as Taylor and Brian Cox as a sarcastic Brando, mocking Jacko and Liz from the back seat of the getaway car. Fiennes as Jackson? Well, YOU decide.

Religious Right nut jobs, David and Jason Benham, were the guests on Liberty Counsel’s Faith and Freedom radio show. You remember these douchebags, right? HGTV cancelled their show Flip it Forward, after a watchdog group published controversial comments David Benham had made publicly about abortion and gay marriage in years past.

Now David is saying that marriage equality is a satanic attack on God that is a consequence of society having been taken over by those with a “darkened heart” and a “depraved mind.”

“We’ve deconstructed gender. It’s an ultimate attack on the Creator … So this is where we find ourselves as a culture, is with a depraved mind where we’re celebrating and even forcing others to participate in immorality.

What the Lord wants. He wants us to have life and this whole deconstruction of gender, this whole redefinition of marriage, all of these things is a mask for Satan who is robbing and killing and destroying these people who desperately want life. They want to seek the love of a father, trying to find it in the arms of another man and they’ll never find it there.”

Ex Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield just can’t seem to stop making out with men. On Sunday, the actor upstaged the Golden Globes this week when he was puposely caught on camera smooching Ryan Reynolds.

He was asked about the kiss by Stephen Colbert on The Late Show.

“I just wanted Ryan to know that I loved him no matter if he won or lost. I wanted him to know it’s how you play the game, it doesn’t matter, he showed up and gave it all and it doesn’t change anything in my heart. I just wanted him to know I love him very much.”

Colbert then asked if he was “comfortable kissing other men”

“I don’t even understand the question.”

The pair then shared a passionate kiss as the audience cheered.

Garfield has spoken out after hacked emails from the Sony film studio revealed that all variants of Spider-Man are contractually banned from having same-sex romances under strict Marvel Comics licensing rules. The guidelines state that the Spider-Man character must be straight until Marvel decides otherwise.

“I’m excited to get to the point where we don’t have to have this conversation, where we can have a pansexual Spider-Man. The richness of the world we’re in, the diversity of the world we’re in; you look at the animal kingdom and you see it reflected.

You look all over… what are we so scared of? Why are we so, ‘No, it has to be this way, a man and a woman.’ Why is that even a conversation?”
