Growing Pains star/talk show host Alan Thicke has died of a heart attack. He was 69.

TMZ is reporting that he suffered a heart attack while he was playing hockey with his 19-year-old son, Carter. He was transported to Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center around noon Tuesday, December 13th, and pronounced dead there.

Thick has had a long and varied career as a sitcom star, a game show host, a talk show host, and a theme song composer (for Diff’rent Strokes, Wheel of Fortune, and Growing Pains) – as well as being the father of “Blurred Lines” singer Robin Thicke. Most recently, he was seen on Fuller House, Scream Queens and This Is Us.

Emma Tapping, a mother-of-three from the Isle of Man in the UK, has been accused of spoiling her children by getting each of them 96 presents for Christmas.

From Oddity Central:

After Emma posted a picture of her Christmas Tree buried in a mountain of presents, last year, it went viral and made the rounds online with the caption “Nearly time for all the materialistic parents to compete and broadcast how many presents their kids have on Facebook! Just remember there’s some children’ who don’t get much.” After being approached by various news sites and TV shows about her Christmas shopping habit and the effect it has on her kids, the woman said that she only spoils them on Christmas, because she loves seeing the joy on their faces when they’re opening presents.

“If you ask me if I spoil my kids, I say at Christmas yes I do but I don’t throughout the year. They get the necessities, the school uniform, the things they need but we don’t go on holidays abroad or big shopping sprees,” she said. “Anything they want, they get for Christmas.”

Many online commenters accused her of “abusing” her children by showering them with so many gifts. Emma doesn’t care, though.

“When it first happened I felt like I had to stick up for the kids and say they are not spoilt. I felt I had to justify what I was doing, but now I couldn’t give a toss what anyone thinks,” she told Channel 5. “I will put a picture of my Christmas tree up this year, if you don’t like it scroll on and it is a good job I am not your mum.”

The kids, of course, love it.

Teenager Mia, nine-year-old Ella, and toddler son Tatum love their mother’s Christmas present obsession. “I love getting the amount of presents we do, who wouldn’t?”, Mia said. “I wouldn’t say we are spoilt. Everything we might of got throughout the year we get on one day. I love it.”

Hmmm. I’ll leave with one final quote from the article that sort of hints at a larger truth:

Emma and the kids admit that some of the presents from last Christmas have gone unused after being unwrapped. “I couldn’t be bothered putting it all away. Some of it got boxed on top of my wardrobe as there wasn’t room for it,” Mia said.

Since winning the sixth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2014, Del Rio has traveled the world performing well-received routines on several stand-up tours, including the current Not Today Satan Comedy Show, which concludes in San Antonio, Texas, on Nov. 9.

In addition to her career as a stand-up comedian and reality television star, Del Rio (real name Roy Haylock) headlined her first feature film, the crowd-funded Hurricane Bianca, which was released Sept. 23 on VOD and co-stars Rachel Dratch, Margaret Cho, RuPaul, and Alan Cumming.

A new documentary Growing Up Coy (directed by Eric Juhola) – about the transgender six-year-old whose family fought for her right to use the girls’ bathroom in a landmark civil rights case that prompted a nationwide debate – will debut on Netflix January 6.

Via Deadline:

The film follows the case of little Coy Mathis who started transitioning from male to female in kindergarten with the support of his family and teachers after it was clear that he felt he was a girl. Coy was also allowed to use the girls’ bathroom at the Colorado elementary school until an administrator stepped in and put a stop to it. That prompted the Mathis family to sue the school for a civil rights violation in 2013. The case made national news, and prompted The New York Times to cover the story on its front page and then went viral internationally.

“The film will be in 190 countries now, and I don’t think there’s any other distributor that could get it in front of that many eyes on the same day,” Juhola told Deadline. “We’re very excited. The whole point of making this film was to try to make a difference in trans rights and trans youth rights. One of the ways to do that is for people to actually see the film and get an understanding of the transgender experience.”

“When we were doing our festival tour, we learned that coming to a screening in a public place can be very intimidating for transgender people,” he added. “So by being able to live-stream the film in their living rooms, it gives those who feel that way a safe place to view it, especially in states and countries where there are anti-transgender laws and discrimination.”

Former opera prodigy (and America’s Got Talent winner, 2010) Jackie Evancho announced this week that she would be singing the national anthem at Donald Trump‘s presidential inauguration next month (after every other performer in the free world declined). What makes her decision a bit odd is the fact that she has a trans sibling. A trans sibling who is often attacked online by bigoted trolls.

“My family is kind of a big target. I have a transgender sister and so a lot of hate goes towards us,” Evancho tells People magazine

So….. she thinks aligning herself with Trump/Pence and their rabidly homophobic supporters is the way to go?

The family has reportedly sued over bathroom use in their home district. And yet … they think it’s a good idea to serenade a man who has explicitly promised to roll back LGBTQ rights and protections? A man who initially said he was against the North Carolina bathroom law before walking that stance back? A man rumored to be ready to offer virulently anti-LGBTQ ex-Gov. McCrory of North Carolina a consolation job?

It’s just so damn counterintuitive. I don’t understand people anymore.

Jackie will be performing a duet with opera superstar Andrea Bocelli, who Boy Culture reminds us, is a bit of a wackadoodle, himself.

Bocelli is staunchly Catholic, anti-choice and was an indefatigable Berlusconi supporter, so he’ll be right at home.
