It takes a LOT to shock the internet these days, but after it was confirmed that large chunks of Melania Trump‘s speech last night of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, were plagiarized from First Lady Michelle Obama‘s speech at the Democratic National Convention in 2008 the floodgates were OPENED. And a new hashtag was born #FamousMelaniaTrumpQuotes. See below and my early post for the jaw-dropping “similarities”. And enjoy this barrage of Tweets & comments.

#LoveForLeslieJ: Leslie Jones Leaves Twitter In Tears After Racist Bullying

Ghost5.png

The fab, Leslie Jones, one of the stars of Ghostbusters, left Twitter last night after being bullied repeatedly from racist and mean-spirited trolls. The tweets on her page, she said, made her life

a personal hell.

A new Twitter hashtag #LoveForLeslieJ has been posted in support of the star, but the hate-filled tweets on her race, her dead brother, the color of skin which used pictures of apes was too much. She dropped off the social medium, even though behind the scenes director Paul Feig and Sony were able to get Twitter to suspend some of the accounts of some of the more hate-filled posters. Feig tweeted,

Any personal attacks against us are attacks against us all.

Judd Apatow, Anna Kendrick, Margaret Cho and Jada Pinkett Smith have come out in support of Jones, but it didn’t stop deluge of hostile posts.

In addition to the nightmare, someone was able to post a hate-filled message that looked like it came from Jones. This fraudulent Tweet was then was re-tweeted and others who were offended reacted to it with even more hate.

There sure are a lot of assholes out there. Show some love, people.

What Would Jake Wear?: Out of the Office & Into The Woods

Our social media guru Jake Thompson has worn Stranger Things, but in the spirit of Winona Ryder’s spooky return to television, he decked his chest out in his most sinister of blouses. This look screams, “I’m the bloody Mary, you’re the Rhoda!” It’s versatile if you’re going straight  “Out of the Office, and Into the Woods.” Combine it with a pair of low-rise (new, for Jake) cigarette flare dark denims and a (not-sure-if-it’s-a-knock-off) Chanel clutch, and you’re ready to run. For. Your. Life. Living!

What Would Jake Wear - World of Wonder

Where to get the look:

  • Oxford Top – $7.99, Goodwill
  • Chanel Clutch – $5.99, Goodwill
  • High-Waisted Dark Denims – $8.99, Goodwill
  • Vintage Black Ankle Boots – $9.99, American Way Thrift

#NoTimeForLosers: Adam Lambert & Queen Are PISSED That Trump Used “We Are the Champions”

$

qt
Donald Trump made an entrance at Monday night’s Republican National Convention, worthy of JLo at the Grammy’s, walking out to Queen‘s We Are the Champions but not everyone was cheering. The RNC and the Republican Presidential (it’s official as of last night) are under pressure to cease and desist. Queen tweeted yesterday that the song’s use at the convention was “unauthorized” and “against our wishes.”

Adam Lambert, the current lead singer of Queen, tweeted a photo of frontman Freddie Mercury, writing,

If your politics party spends decades treating gay people as second-class citizens, guess what: You don’t get to use Freddie Mercury’s music at your convention.

In a statement, Sony/ATV Music Publishing said it was “frustrated” by the “repeated unauthorized use” of the song by the Trump campaign.

“Sony/ATV Music Publishing has never been asked by Mr. Trump, the Trump campaign or the Trump Organization for permission to use ‘We are the Champions’ by Queen. On behalf of the band, we are frustrated by the repeated unauthorized use of the song after a previous request to desist, which has obviously been ignored by Mr. Trump and his campaign. Queen does not want its music associated with any mainstream or political debate in any country. Nor does Queen want ‘We are the Champions’ to be used as an endorsement of Mr. Trump and the political views of the Republican Party. We trust, hope and expect that Mr. Trump and his campaign will respect these wishes moving forward.”

But this isn’t the first time Trump has been scolded by the band’s label for using its song. The popular anthem played as Trump walked out to his victory party at the Trump National Golf Club in New York after the last of the Republican primaries on June 7. Guitarist Brian May denounced Trump’s use of the song on his website, saying it was without permission that Trump used the song.

Regardless of our views on Mr. Trump’s platform, it has always been against our policy to allow Queen music to be used as a political campaigning tool.

According to ABC News,

Republican National Committee Communications Director Sean Spicer responded on Twitter that the convention paid to license the song, which another RNC official also confirmed.

“We Are the Champions” is licensed by Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) If the RNC has a blanket license with BMI, paying an annual fee to use all the songs in its catalog, the RNC can most likely legally play the song even if the band objects.

Even with a blanket BMI license, it’s still “recommended” to ask the artist or copyright holder for permission. But legal experts tell ABC News it’s common to use songs without that permission.

The band could potentially sue for “false endorsement” (leading the public to believe the artist endorses you) or “grand rights” (dramatizing or illustrating a song without permission) but these lawsuits are very hard to win.

We’ll see if Donald gets sued fr the 4,000th time. As World of Wonder‘s Fenton Baily said in a post about the use of the song and the GOP’s attitude toward the LGBTQ community,

They hate us, but they can’t live without us.

What he said.

Maya and Marty, NBC‘s 6 episode summer replacement, starring Maya Rudolf and Martin Short is finished now. It had an SNL comedy pedigree and last Tuesday was the finalé with Sean Hayes guest-starring. This noir detective thriller spoof is called Burt Cassidy: Gay Detective. Amazing it had never been done before. It’s an instant classic. Could be a series, honestly.

Have you heard about Logo’s Finding Prince Charming? It’s hosted by Lance Bass, and will include 13 hot gay bachelors, living together and competing win the heart of an eligible gay heartthrob. Sound familiar? It’s basically the gay version of The Bachelor, except that there’s no proposal at the end.

So who’s the first guy? According to TMZ, it’s this beefcake, Robert Sepúlveda Jr., an Atlanta interior designer.

But if memory serves, this isn’t the first gay-centric Bachelor-type show, right? Bravo‘s Boy Meets Boy aired in 2003, for example, but the twist in that show was that the potential suitors were a mix of gay and straight men. Bachelor franchise producer/host Chris Harrison has been ambivalent about making a queer person the center of a Bachelor or Bachelorette season. He told the New York Times in 2014,

The question is: Is it a good business decision? Is our job to break barriers, or is it a business?

Yes, “business” seems to be the operative word on The Bachelor and The Bachlorette, not love. Hey, speaking of girls, how long before the lesbian spin-off? Would that be called Finding Cinderella?

Finding Prince Charming is out on Logo this fall. Stay tuned. In the meantime enjoy this #HumpdayHottie’s pics.

#TheGoodNews: Study Says Masturbating A LOT Is Good For Your Health!

Yes, it’s National Masturbation Month. (I know, that’s EVERY month, but this is official.) As always diet, exercise and cutting down on the booze is great for your health. But a new study published in European Urology confirms a link between men ejaculating regularly and a reduced risk of prostate cancer. Researchers tracked 30,000 men for almost 20 years to come up with their results. (That’s a lot of porn, guys!)

The study showed found that men in their 20s who ejaculated at least 21 times a month were 19 per cent less likely to develop prostate cancer than those who did seven times a month or less. (Btw, you don’t have to masturbate, sex with a partner does the job too, as long as you cum.)

Men in their 40s who jacked it were 22% less likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer. Author Jennifer Rider told AP,

Ejaculation frequency is, to some extent, a measure of overall health status in that men at the very low end of ejaculation – 0 to 3 times per month – were more likely to have other (medical problems) and die prematurely from causes other than prostate cancer.

… ejaculation and safe sexual activity throughout adulthood could be a beneficial strategy for reducing the risk of prostate cancer.“

See, those nuns who said masturbation is ‘self-abuse’ WERE wrong. Here’s to your health… and a link to Porn Hub.com.

#NSFW: RNC Attendees Are Looking for “Hot Gay Sex” on Craigslist…

RNC-pic-998x699
Since Grindr, Scruff and Tinder‘s invention you’d think that the “Casual Encounters” listings on Craigslist might be suffering, but not at this year’s Republican National Convention.

If you are stuck in Cleveland and looking for your own “RNC bitch boy” or some fellow “beefy hairy RNC visitors” that is one place to find them.

Odd that so many ads for man-on-man sex are being pegged to a gathering for an historically homophobic political party? But this isn’t the first time that anti-LGBT politics and gay sex have met behind closed doors. (In a closet?) But considering Donald Trump‘s choice as is homophobe Mike Pence, who has a history of defending antigay laws, it’s a dangerous, two-faced game these guys are into.

No secret that the GOP plays dirty… on the floor of the convention and apparently, their hotel room floor too.

#BornThisDay: Poet, Hart Crane

crane

July 21, 1899Hart Crane was a quintessentially American poet, born and raised in Ohio. His father was the inventor of Life Savers Candy and his mother was overbearing, flashy, and a hypochondriac. The parents drank, fought bitterly and eventually divorced. An unhappy childhood provided the perfect set-up for a young poet’s successful writing career.

Crane began writing verse as a young teenager, and although he was basically self-educated he read the works of the Elizabethans: William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe, and John Donne, along with the 19th century French poets: Charles Vildrac, Jules Laforgue, and Arthur Rimbaud.

Crane finally had enough of family life in Ohio and he dropped out of high school to move to NYC in 1916. He found work as a copy editor and wrote poems for small literary magazines. He often needed to borrow money from his father in order to survive.

In NYC, he partied with many important literary stars of the era: Allen Tate, Katherine Anne Porter, e. e. cummings, but his heavy drinking and emotional instability frustrated most attempts at a lasting friendship. Crane admired the poems of T. S. Eliot, and his own work combined the influences of the modern European writers with a particularly American sensibility inspired by our greatest poet, Walt Whitman.

Like Whitman, Crane lived in Brooklyn. With his lover, Emil Opffer, he shared digs at 110 Columbia Heights in Brooklyn Heights. Crane was crazy for the views the house afforded him. In spring of 1924 he wrote:

“Just imagine looking out your window directly on the East River with nothing intervening between your view of The Statue Of Liberty, way down the harbor, and the marvelous beauty of The Brooklyn Bridge close above you on your right! All of the great new skyscrapers of lower Manhattan are marshaled directly across from you, and there is a constant stream of tugs, liners, sailboats in procession before you on the river! It’s really a magnificent place to live. This section of Brooklyn is very old, but all the houses are in splendid condition and have not been invaded by foreigners.”

The Brooklyn Bridge served as the inspiration for his greatest poem, The Bridge (1930), his own answer to Eliot’s The Waste Land (1922). During his time, the area below the bridge on the Brooklyn side was notorious as a place for homos to meet to have sex.

As his work was published, some praised his poetry, but most critics scoffed at it. Crane’s poems are often criticized as incomprehensible; he was certainly that for me when I attempted to get through his collected works in American Poetry 301 in college. Crane was emotionally crushed by the bad reviews his poems received.

Tormented by his attraction to other men, Crane had a rapturous affair with Opffer, a Danish sailor, the inspiration for his epic erotic poem Voyages (1926), the center piece of his first book of published poems, White Buildings.

Crane lived a lifetime of profound problems, both social and personal. His failed love life was partly due to his obsession with men from the navy. Ernest Hemingway (they share a birthday today) noted:

“Poor Hart Crane, always trying to pick up the wrong sailor.”

Crane’s own self-image held him back from any real lasting happiness, but booze was the major reason for his downfall. Under the influence, he would become flirty; frequently finding himself in the wrong situations at the wrong times. Haven’t we all been in that situation on a lonely Saturday night?

Crane went to live in France as a guest of Harry and Caresse Crosby, an American couple who owned the fine arts Black Sun Press. From their home in the French countryside, Le Moulin du Soleil, Crosby wrote in his journal:

“Hart Crane back from Marseilles where he slept with 30 sailors and he began again to drink Cutty Sark. Crane got drunk at the Cafe Select and fought with waiters over his tab. When the Paris police were called, he fought with them and was beaten. They arrested and jailed him, fining him 800 francs and spent six days in prison at La Santé.”

Crane made an attempt to clean up his act and play it straight to please the people in his life. He tried, but he was miserable. Drinking and rough-trade made his life bearable and yet, made it worse.

Crane attempted to marry a girl, Peggy Crowley, the recently divorced wife if his good friend, writer and critic Malcolm Crowley, but everyone knew it was all a conceit.

On April 26, 1932, while on board a cruise ship in the Caribbean Sea, Crane was badly beaten by a crew member that he had made a pass at. The following morning, a friend found him in his room, drunk and inconsolable. She told him to dress for lunch and left. Shortly before noon, Crane was seen on the deck, looking down at the water. He yelled out: “Goodbye, everybody!” and then he jumped overboard. His body was never recovered. He was just 32 years old.

Tennessee Williams, the most devoted of all the many writers and artists who venerated Crane, left instructions that his own body was to be buried at sea in the Gulf Of Mexico at the very spot that Crane drowned. Instead, William’s family buried him in St. Louis, the city Williams so desperately tried to escape.

Crane’s life story is a troubled tale of a talented gay man trying to find where he belonged in the world. If he had been born a half a century later maybe Crane would have been able to write and publish his poems with some glimmer of happiness.

My boo, James Franco, presented as his Masters thesis for his MFA in Filmmaking from NYU, The Broken Tower (2011) a black-and-white film that he directed, wrote, produced, edited and stars as Hart Crane. It is not exactly a bio-pic, but rather a filming of the poem The Voyage. It is nearly incomprehensible, but then, Crane’s poetry confounds me and his life leaves me circumspect.

From Legend, part of White Buildings:

We make our meek adjustments

Contented with such random consolations

As the wind deposits

In slithered and too ample pockets

For we can still love the world, who find

A famished kitten on the step and know

Recesses for it from the fury of the street

Or warm torn elbow coverts

We will sidestep, and to the final smirk

Dally the doom of that inevitable thumb

That slowly chafes its puckered index toward us

Facing the dull squint with what innocence

And what surprise!

And yet these fine collapses are not lies

More than the pirouettes of any pliant cane

Our obsequies are, in a way, no enterprise

We can evade you, and all else but the heart:

What blame to us if the heart live on

The game enforces smirks; but we have seen

The moon in lonely alleys make

A grail of laughter of an empty ash can

And through all sound of gaiety and quest

Have heard a kitten in the wilderness

Michael Moore’s 5 Scary Reasons Why Trump Will Win in November

$

Screen Shot 2016-07-21 at 9.34.10 AM

As Donald Trump enjoys a post-convention bounce in the polls, here’s more bad news to mull over. On last night’s Real Time with Bill Mahr, über-liberal documentarian Michael Moore made a terrifying prediction: Trump is going to win by a landslide in November because the Democrats (as usual) are too lazy and too complacent.

“One of the things I’ve been concerned about this week is we’re all sitting in our bubble, having a good laugh at this total, as you said, shitshow, but the truth is that this plays to a lot of people that he has to win to become the next president,” Moore said of the chaos that has unfolded at the Republican National Convention, like when the crowd starting screaming about locking up Hillary Clinton.

“And I have to say, I’m sorry to be the buzzkill here to early on, but I think Trump is gonna win,” Moore said to boos from the crowd, who didn’t like the suggestion that the U.S. election could go the way of the Brexit vote.

Here are his 5 reasons to be worried:

1. The Rust Belt/Brexit Strategy

“Mitt Romney lost by 64 electoral votes. The total votes of [Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania ]… 64,” Moore told Maher. “All he has to do is win those four states.”

2. The Trump Family

Trump’s main surrogates—his own family—have become Republican National Convention superstars, and their testimonials really cause voters to consider, “well if he raised them, he can’t be so bad, right?” Moore points out that the family members are not really looking like the “hostages” liberal voters might have thought they would. In fact, “between [Melania] and the children, none of them have offerered any of the sort of anecdotes that you would expect,” Moore pointed out.

3. Make America Great Again? How About Just Reality Television

Moore believes Trump doesn’t even want to be in the White House; that he’ll give it to Mike Pence and his children after buying an estate in Fairfax. “The thing that we’re describing… ‘Make America Great Again’… He’s gonna turn his presidency into a reality show; a literal reality show. But if I say that, millions are gonna go, ‘F*ck yea,'” Moore said.

4. Angry White Men Vote

While statiscally, Trump needs as many as 7/10 white guys to win the presidency, Moore insists that angry white men are incredibly dependable when it comes to voting. “White men over 35 are only 19 percent of the country, but that’s 40 million voters, and I’m telling you they’re going to be out there [at the polls],” Moore said.

5. The Two Sides Don’t Even Talk Anymore

It’s worth investigating the yearlong conundrum of why poor, middle-American voters identify so well with an ego-centric real estate mogul from New York. “When you say, he hasn’t read a book in his adult life, you’ve just described the majority of Americans. Get out of your bubble, everybody!” Moore urged.

Hmmm. That first one is the scariest to me. If anyone knows how the Rust Belt thinks, it’s Michael Moore. (via alternet)

Hey Shanae, were you a fan of The Nanny growing up?
I was too young to appreciate the show when it originally aired, but I do have memories of it being on TV and remember being fascinated by Fran Drescher’s voice and laugh. I’d only seen the show in reruns, so in December of 2014 I decided to binge watch the entire series.

Is that when you realised the weight of her wardrobe?
I knew she wore a lot of Moschino because I had read articles that listed them as her designer of choice, but otherwise I just thought she wore really cute clothes. I didn’t know they were all designer.

Your Instagram really goes into detail, it’s not just the designer but the specific collection and sometimes you even post picture of other contemporaries in the look. How long does it take you to identify those outfits?
It is very time consuming, as you might imagine. Sometimes it takes 34 hours to find something, other times it takes five minutes.

How do you do it? It doesn’t feel like something you can just Google.
I put in a lot of research, I watch all the episodes and I take screencaps of every single outfit. I started at first with a basic Google search of her more popular Moschino outfits, but I had already seen other people post those so I was interested in finding and identifying the ones no one had talked about before. For that I had to get a lot more creative with my research, I found myself digging through online vintage market places, 90s magazine ads and I also look to the top supermodels of the time. Basically, I use a combination of methods in order to correctly ID an outfit.

Did the show work directly with designers?
I know that Todd Oldham is a good friend of Fran Drescher and he lent her and Brenda Cooper, the costume designer, a lot of his pieces. I’m not exactly sure how closely they usually worked with the designers. Brenda Cooper did leave a comment on an outfit I identified as Herve Leger saying that it actually was a replica she had to make because the real dress they rented from Herve Leger had to be given back before they even had time to film Fran wearing it.

A lot of this went over our heads as kids, but do you think the show was part of fashion culture at the time?
Fran Fine also wore a lot of outfits that the 90s Supermodels wore on the runway, so I think seeing Fran wear those same looks made the outfits more relatable and accessible to ordinary women. She embraced short dresses, skirts, very bold patterns and wasn’t fazed by what people had to say about her crazy style.

“Have you seen me? Have you seen me in the magazine? “asks the fierce-as-fuck Chicago-born, Brooklyn-based gender non-conforming rapper Mister Wallace in his new single “It Girl. The song is from his debut EP, FAGGOT  which was released in February via FUTUREHOOD, a label he started with fellow Banjee Report collective member aCeb00m. Mister Wallace and director Ahmed Ibrahim shot the video – which dreams of fame, glamour, fashion shoots, fast cars and speed boats (except they’re all beautifully broken, decayed, and up on blocks) – in 10 hours with a budget of $400 and a crew of two people.

“It’s all just play. I find the social pressure of being glamorous, famous and successful in America to be unbearable. We made this video for those who still find glamor and dignity even in their worst conditions.”

“I wrote ‘It Girl’ over the course of 2014 as the Black Lives Matter movement was gaining national recognition,” Mister Wallace told FADER. “It became clear to me that before I could realize any dream of being a successful artist, I was more likely to become world famous for being gunned down by a racist cop under the protection of the law. I started to imagine how my image would be used by the media to perpetuate this horrific narrative to younger people and it sent me over the edge. ‘It Girl’ became my anthem and it kept me alive at a time when lovers and employers felt my blackness and my queerness had gone too far from what’s acceptable to mainstream society. My hope is that this song, my truth, gives you LIFE and inspires you to appreciate the lives of those who look and feel like me.”

A frightened Rhode Island family was driven from a playground when they spotted a haunted blue swing flying around all by itself… as if occupied by some invisible ghost child!

In a video uploaded on Facebook last month, Scotty Denton and his three young children are seen watching the swing set at the Warwick playground IN ABSOLUTE HORROR.

“We’re at the playground, and the kids don’t want to go anymore because look at this shit,” Scotty Denton says before introducing the world to the so-called “haunted swing.”

“There’s no wind right now either,” he insisted.

Of course, some commenters insist there IS a bit of wind (you can see some trees swaying when he scans the area with his iPhone), and some SCIENCE GEEKS are saying that the chair is moving because it has the most surface area which picks up the wind, while the smaller chairs have holes in them which allows air to pass through, BUT, REALLY, WHAT DOES SCIENCE KNOW? This is obviously THE WORK OF SATAN.

Watch for and decide for yourself.

For all “the haters,” Denton returned to the park on Tuesday and shot a new video that asks, “Do you see a ghost?”

“It’s perfectly still,” he says while showing the blue swing resting in the now sunny park. “Just making a video for all you haters that said it’s always swinging. No strings tied to it.”

“This video is for all the haters out there who said that the video was bullsh-t. Obviously, it’s not,” he says as he films the surrounding park ― and a skateboarder wearing a white sheet flies by in the background.
