Colton Haynes Is Now…a Fashion Designer?!

That’s right kiddos! Colton Haynes, the hunky actor from Teen Wolf and Arrow who recently came out of the closet, is going to be releasing a clothing line!

Although not much at ALL is known about the clothing line, Colton promises that he’ll give us all the details – like the name of the line, what the line will consist of, price points, and where it will be sold – as soon as he can. He said on Instagram:

And let’s not forget that Colton isn’t just another pretty face. I mean he IS that, too, but he’s also been modeling for the likes of Abercrombie and Fitch and even Vogue for over a decade now. His brother-in-law Scott Culley is also a clothing designer. He recently launched the LGBT children’s clothing line Gayby Apparel.

#LGBTQ: Hillary Clinton on the Orlando Massacre in Her Own Words, “I See You. I Hear You. I’m With You.”

0
0

hillary-clinton-lgbt-hillary-clinton-prideMy old pal, writer Lori Majewski just posted this and tagged me. Her friend Billy Manes is the editor-in-chief of Orlando’s LGBTQ+ newspaper Watermark who just published this impassioned editorial from Hillary Clinton in his new issue. It’s a must read.

Stanley. Amanda. Oscar. Rodolfo. Antonio. Darryl. Angel. Juan. Luis. Cory. Tevin. Deonka. Simon. Leroy. Mercedez. Peter. Juan. Paul. Frank. Miguel. Javier. Jason. Eddie. Anthony. Drew. Alejandro. Brenda. Gilberto. Kimberly. Akyra. Luis. Geraldo. Eric. Joel. Jean. Enrique. Jean. Xavier. Christopher. Yilmary. Edward. Shane. Martin. Jonathan. Juan. Luis. Franky. Luis. Jerald.

We know where and when and how they died. And we know that every one of their stories represents someone who won’t get the chance to live out the future they deserved.

Our hearts are broken, and our thoughts are with the survivors still fighting for their lives. And to the LGBT community – in Orlando and across America – know this: I see you. I hear you. I’m with you. And I will do everything in my power to prevent future tragedies like this act of terror and hate.

That means acknowledging who was targeted in this attack. From the raids on the Stonewall Inn in New York, to the arson attack on UpStairs Lounge in New Orleans, to the detonation of a bomb at the Otherside Lounge in Atlanta – too often, places that should be safe for the LGBT community have instead been targets for violence. For all the progress we’ve made, it’s still far too dangerous to be gay in America.

LGBT people are now more likely than any other group to be the target of a hate crime. LGBT people of color face intersectional pressures and dangers. And a full 70 percent of victims of anti-LGBT murders in the United States are people of color – and the statistics are particularly striking for transgender people of color. So there’s a reason so many people seek out safe spaces.

In Orlando, that sense of security was shattered. The gunman specifically targeted the Latino LGBT community. In fact, it was “Latin Night” during Pride Month, a time that should have been a joyous celebration. When that feeling of safety comes under attack, all Americans must stand in solidarity with our LGBT brothers and sisters.

After the massacre, LGBT people from all over the country came forward to share how much this hit home. That’s because so many communities in America have somewhere like Pulse, where people can find a community and feel free to be themselves.

Yes, this is a time for reflection. But more importantly, this is a time for action. We need real plans to prevent future attacks and ensure the safety of the LGBT community and all Americans. Here’s mine.

First, we need to take on the epidemic of gun violence in America. Prohibiting suspected terrorists from buying guns – and expanding background checks so that terrorists can’t easily avoid that prohibition – should not be controversial. We can’t legislate hate away, but we can make it less deadly. That’s why I was so proud to see Democrats staging a sit-in on the floor of the House of Representatives, demanding a vote on commonsense gun reforms that the vast majority of Americans support.

Second, since we know that the gunman in Orlando was radicalized by terrorist propaganda, we need to disrupt and dismantle the global online network that groups like ISIS use to communicate and to inspire these horrible acts. As president, I’ll set up a task force to track and counter the threat of lone wolf attacks like these.

And third, let’s continue to fight for the ideal this attack intended to target: that no matter who you are, or who you love, you are equal in America. Let’s fight to enshrine that ideal in our laws—by passing the Equality Act. And let’s call out hateful rhetoric whenever and wherever we see it in our daily lives.

The attack at Pulse shook so many of us to our core. But in the weeks since, we have seen moving demonstrations of support – from the thousands of people attending vigils across the country, to the Council on American-Islamic Relations calling for donating blood, to the people and groups on the ground in Orlando who have come together to support their LGBT friends, neighbors, colleagues, and loved ones.

So know that you have allies who are looking out for you. People like Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, whose leadership and support during this crisis ought to be a model for other local leaders. And you have millions of Americans celebrating Pride Month alongside you.

I’m one of them. And I’ll never stop fighting for your right to live freely, openly, and without fear.” –Hillary Clinton

Caitlyn Jenner Praises Trump on LGBT and Women’s Issues AGAIN

0

Screen Shot 2016-06-29 at 10.14.33 AM

Girl, bye.

Caitlyn Jenner spoke to Stat News about the upcoming presidential election and, once again, defended Donald Trump, saying his record on women’s issues and LGBT issues is superior to Hillary Clinton‘s:

“I’m on the conservative Republican side,” she said when asked about issues facing the transgender community. “I’m not excited with what Obama has done to the economy, to our Constitution, all that kind of stuff. But as far as the transgender community, they’ve actually been very good.”

“Everybody looks at the Democrats as being better with these issues,” she added. “But Trump seems to be very much for women. He seems very much behind the LGBT community because of what happened in North Carolina with the bathroom issue. He backed the LGBT community. But in Trump’s case, there’s a lot more unknowns. With Hillary, you pretty much know what you’re gonna get with the LGBT community.”

As HuffPo points out, that’s bunch of hooey.

Trump has time and again insulted, belittled, sexualized and stereotyped women. And his record on queer rights, while less well documented, is also abysmal and includes a promise to consider appointing judges to overturn SCOTUS’ marriage equality ruling and a recent meeting with 400 of the country’s most anti-LGBT conservative Christians. And while he originally criticized North Carolina’s anti-queer HB2 law, he shifted his position a day later and said that states should have the right to do what they want.

How WILLFULLY OBTUSE can she be?

Having political differences is one thing, but to sell your community down the river time and time again is simply beyond the pale. It’s time to wash our hands.

Supermodel Christina Estrada Demands Ex Support Her $262 Million Lifestyle: “It’s What I’m Accustomed To”

48905877.cached

Supermodel Christina Estrada (um, WHO?) is seeking up to $262 million in compensation for her 13-year marriage to Dr. Walid Juffali, a 61-year-old Saudi billionaire.

“I am Christina Estrada,” she announced in court this week.  “I was a top international model. I have lived this life. This is what I am accustomed to.”

Well, alright then. You go, Miss Thing.

Estrada claimed she was “standing up” for women by fighting for case, and regardless of how luxurious her lifestyle sounded insisted hers was a “hard life full of responsibilities.” In fact, it’s SO HARD, she began sobbing on the witness stand when describing a phone call with her daughter who said to her, “Mummy, you are going to make me a poor girl.”

Heartbreaking, really.

Here’s how the $262 million price tag breaks down:

$73 million for property, a $1.3 million-a-year clothes budget, including $53,000 for fur coats (THAT’S ALL?), $146,000 for haute couture dresses and $28,000 for shoes every year.

Estrada found what she felt was an acceptable home in London’s Eaton Square for $73 million that would cost another $8.7 million to decorate as she wished. Another property, costing $8.7 million was dismissed because it would have meant Estrada would have had to share a floor with her staff.

Share a floor with her staff?

YUCK.

I mean, can you IMAGINE?

What is this, the slums of Calcutta?

She also needed $37,000 for Wimbledon tickets, and $13,300 to attend Sir Elton John’s annual white tie ball.

Estrada’s list of demands included a further $5.9 million dollars needed for a country home, and almost $454,000 for staff. The Mail further listed $647,000 to rent a yacht for two weeks, $6,439 to tip the crew, $330,000 for a Paris holiday at the Presidential Suite at the Ritz, plus $99,000 for the nanny’s room; as well as many other thousands of dollars for a vacation in the south of France, beauty treatments, luxury handbags, casual handbags, clutch handbags, mobile phones, new suitcases, face cream, and sunglasses.

The Mirror reported that Estrada’s ex-husband’s lawyer asked her: “You are claiming for 55 pairs of boots and shoes, at a cost of £58,000 every year. Can you not see that that is a lot of money?”

“Not really,” Estrada replied. “That is what they cost. That is the standard I am used to.”

The 35 watches she needed were part of a collection, and necessary as “it depends what I am wearing and needs to go with my outfit.”

Estrada’s entertainment bill demand—$16,000 a year—was possibly undermined when, asked to name another opera besides La Traviata she had been to see (in Paris, no less), Estrada replied, The Nutcracker, which—as was pointed out to her—was a ballet.

Her ex-husband’s lawyers have labeled Estrada’s claims as “excessive, exaggerated, and firmly in gasp territory.”

Frances Hughes, representing Estrada, said in a statement: “The tactics deployed by Dr. Juffali’s legal team have the sole aim of publicly humiliating Ms. Estrada, whose claim for £196m ($262m) represents a tiny proportion of his wealth and a very significant downgrade on the standard of living to which she and her daughter became accustomed to during the marriage.”

For a more detailed breakdown of her demands, go here.

Artist Vincent Desiderio on Being the Inspiration for Kanye’s “Famous” Video, “I Was Almost in Tears”

Artist Vincent Desiderio

Artist Vincent Desiderio

In the new music video for Kanye West‘s Famous, which you likely heard about, shows a row of nude celebrities, including Taylor Swift and Donald Trump, asleep in bed with the rapper and his wife, Kim Kardashian. The video was directly inspired by Vincent Desiderio’s painting Sleep, a fact the artist did not learn until Friday, the morning of the video’s premiere. According to the New York Times, the evening before, Mr. Desiderio, 60, was told cryptically that he was wanted in Los Angeles immediately.

I couldn’t hear properly when my gallery called, and when they said ‘Kanye West,’ I thought they said ‘Condé Nast.’”

Despite not being told why, and though he had only a passing knowledge with Kanye’s music, Mr. Desiderio made the trip from New York — the flight was paid for — and without even stopping at his hotel, was whisked to meet the rapper.

It was almost as if they were throwing a small surprise party for me. They were all smiling like the cat who ate the canary. Then they sat me down and asked if I’d like to see what they’d been working on.

I was almost in tears. We just hugged each other.”

Back at his studio in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., the artist, who is also a senior critic at the New York Academy of Art, discussed his impressions of Mr. West and the bridge between the art world and hip-hop. Below are edited excerpts from the NY Times conversation with the artist,

What was your initial reaction to the video?
As I’m watching the thing, they’re smiling and filming my response, and all of a sudden, I realized that it is my “Sleep” painting: “Holy [expletive]! Oh my God!’ I was really speechless. Kanye saw things in it that I don’t know how he could’ve seen. Kanye is truly an artist. Talking to him was like speaking to any of my peers in the art world — actually, more like talking to the brightest art students that have their eyes wide open.

Were you familiar with his work?
My children would talk about him. The craziest thing that’s happened so far is that all of a sudden, I’ve achieved the status of a demigod among them and their friends.

Did you give legal permission for Kanye to refer to your painting?
As far as I’m concerned, it has nothing to do with copyright. A work of art goes out there, and there’s a stream that activates and widens the communal imagination. It was an honor that I was being quoted. There was no money involved at all.

Did he offer?
It wasn’t offered, but I wouldn’t have taken it. That would’ve cheapened the whole thing — this building of an amazing bridge between aesthetic realms that are feeding off of the same information.

Recently we’ve seen rap interact with contemporary art more, as in Drake’s using James Turrell-inspired visuals for “Hotline Bling,” and Jay Z working with Marina Abramovic for “Picasso Baby.” Is there any part of you that feels icky for being sucked into this world of celebrity?

First of all, a lot of art that makes the crossover into hip-hop is not interesting to me in the least — and not so interesting to Kanye, at this point. For Kanye, who lives in this world of celebrity and fame, the way I understand him now is that he’s much more like Andy Warhol. He said one time, “I am Warhol” out of frustration. But he’s like an exploded internet version of Warhol allowing these celebs to hang themselves with their own words while he sits there and says, “That’s fabulous.” Warhol was a mirror for the times. When Kanye goes through all these shenanigans, he’s mirroring the times. He said it himself: It’s performance art. His whole life is performance art.

Did you recognize everyone portrayed in the video?
I did, except for some of the hip-hop people. That seems to be the thing people are focusing on more — I’m sure he did it to be incendiary — but the real subject of the video is that many of these people in the bed are repulsive. But everything about the video kept me at bay in regard to making a judgment on them. Every time I would think a thought like that, I would see them sleeping and vulnerable, like babies. We’re all the same. They’re just famous.

Lena Dunham wrote that the video “feels informed and inspired by the aspects of our culture that make women feel unsafe even in their own beds, in their own bodies.” What do you make of that?

Artists are not saints. They’re not people whose first obligation is moral correctness.

As much as I like Dunham and appreciate her, art goes to dangerous places. And this is not to sound like Donald Trump, whom I loathe, but if you want to make it amenable to a certain political class or agenda, what a disaster that would be. It’s like saying, ‘Hitchcock, that guy must’ve really loved killing women.’ Or Dostoyevsky — ‘I don’t like that guy very much.’ It’s horrible to look at, horrible to hear, but there’s also the kernel of salvation. That tension between those two things is where art functions.“

Coming Soon: A New Musical Based on “Paris Is Burning” Drag Legend Dorian Corey!!!

Yes! Yes! The lady! The LEGEND! The one and only Dorian Corey! Of COURSE, you remember her from Paris Is Burning. Sitting backstage, slathering on layer after layer or makeup, dispensing her hard-earned wisdom to the children:

“I always had hopes of being a big star. But as you get older, you aim a little lower. Everybody wants to make an impression, some mark upon the world. Then you think, you’ve made a mark on the world if you just get through it, and a few people remember your name. Then you’ve left a mark. You don’t have to bend the whole world. I think it’s better just to enjoy it. Pay your dues, and just enjoy it. If you shoot an arrow and it goes real high, hooray for you.”

Heartbreaking and oh-so true.

Makes me GASP every time I hear it.

But there was more to her story. MUCH MORE.

Remember the whole bit about the mummy they found in her closet?

Yes, A MUMMY!

dorian_corey_mummy_in_the_closet

..several months after Dorian’s death, a few of her former children were going through her sewing room looking for Halloween costumes when they found a trunk that contained a mummified human body. It was wrapped in strips of leatherette and covered with baking soda. It proved to be the corpse of a black man in his thirties, who had died of gunshot wounds and who had been dead more than twenty years (which meant the body had been moved out of and into several different apartments). Pinned to the body was a note that said, “This poor soul broke into my apartment and I was forced to shoot him.”

Tragic, yes. But LEGENDARILY SO.

Anyway. Now there’s a musical based on her life!

Dorian’s Closet is a musical written by Los Angeles-based playwright Richard Mailman with music by Ryan Haase, the artistic director of Stillpointe Theatre in Baltimore. The production, directed by Joseph Ritsch, will run from April 26 to May 14, 2017 through Columbia, Maryland’s Rep Stage.

“It is not a musical version of the documentary,” Ritsch told The Baltimore Sun. “This really spans Dorian’s life, especially the incident after she passed away from AIDS, when they found a mummified body in her closet, the body of a man who had been dead 15 years. That part is really intriguing. There is a whole bunch of theories trying to explain it. [Mailman] is exploring his fantasies about what really happened and why.”

Let’s get this show up and running and TOURING THE COUNTRY! Take it all the way to BROADWAY, bitches!

I need some Dorian Corey musical numbers at next year’s Tony Awards!

5 Things We Love About ‘The Neon Demon’

Neon Demon - World of Wonder

The Neon Demon is pretty great. Infact, I would go as far to say it’s brilliant. Besides being visually stunning and an electrifying soundtrack, the fashion and the characters (played by a genius cast), make this summer film a hunt for years to come!

Here’s the Top 5 Things We LOVE about it:

5) Elle Fanning

Neon Demon - World of Wonder

Doe-eyed and exquisite, she brings a certain depth to ‘Jessie’ that keeps you guessing the entire film.

4) The Soundtrack

Neon Demon - World of Wonder
Fandango made a playlist of this creepy, catchy, playlist for the film that will let you slip right into the darkness in a cool and creative way.

Here’s a preview sampling of the tracks:

“So I Cried,” The Myrmidons

“Radio-Activity,” Kraftwerk

“Bubble Sex,” Tommy Seebach

“Cheree,” Suicide

“Drone Logic,” Daniel Avery

“Fade To Grey,” Visage

“Knights In White Satin,” Giorgio Moroder

“Superwoman,” Madison

“Fyt,” This Mortal Coil

“(Theme From) Valley Of The Dolls,” Dionne Warwick

“An Ending,” Brian Eno

“Bela Lugosi’s Dead,” Bauhaus

“Magic Fly,” Space

“The Number One Song In Heaven,” Sparks

“Won’t Somebody Dance With Me,” Lynsey De Paul

“My Elusive Dreams,” Tammy Wynette And George Jones

“Savage Love,” Death In Vegas

“Pop Pop Shoo Wah,” Erotic Drum Band

“Coum,” Death In Vegas

“Boy,” Book Of Love

3) Jena Malone

Jena Malone - World of Wonder
She puts the itch and witch and we’re loving it! Her scary delivery keeps you guessing up to the very end on what her motive is with Jessie (Elle Fanning).

2) Bella Heathcote

Bella Heathcote - World of Wonder
The lesser of two evils, Gigi – one of the two model nemesis’s of Jessie is cool as a cucumber and calculated to boot! She puts the itch and bitch and we love to hate her.

1) Abbey Lee

Abbey Lee - World of Wonder
Probably the most haunting archetype in the film is Sarah (the counterpart model to Gigi). With a jawbone that will seriously cut a bitch up, and eyes that pierce like vampires, she is the epitome of what the film embodies: “How far will you go for beauty?” She is driven, determined, and dangerous!

1984 was a helluva year. Famine in Ethiopia. Indira Gandhi was assassinated. The AIDS virus was identified. And Satan spoke to June O’Brien of Boca Raton, Florida, through her haunted toaster.

“He had a very low voice, I’d say,” she told Today Show viewers.  “He sounded like Eli Wallach

The Dark Lord also left messages on her toast. “SATAN LIVES” read one piece of hellishly charred bread.

When asked if the toaster was still possessed, June plopped a piece of toast into it, and after a bit of futzing – (“It seems to beware…” she whispers) – IT CATCHES ON FIRE!

BOO! And THERE’S YOUR ANSWER!

Bryant Gumbel‘s reaction is PRICELESS.

What does it mean to you and your cast members, to be grand marshals of Pride in San Francisco this year?

It’s exciting, it’s an honor. Last year, we were in the parade as well, but we weren’t grand marshals. If you were able to see Season One of Transcendent, [the parade] was the finale. It was the first time AsiaSF was in the parade as a company. It was magical, it was fun. This year, to be honored as celebrity grand marshals, is totally awesome.

Before, there as this whole controversy: does the “T” and “Q” even belong with the LGBTQ? We were separated a little bit, we were left out. Throughout the years, I think it’s been getting so much better. The LGBTQ community has really come together. We finally are realizing that we’re all in this together.
Does leading the parade this year feel especially significant, in the wake of the shootings in Orlando?

It was not really a wake up call for me, because I know there’s a lot of hate in the world. But it was the biggest mass murder since 9/11, and it was targeted whether people like to say it or not, it was targeted toward the LGTQ community. It’s just heartbreaking that people can have so much hate for something they don’t know or understand. They took 49 lives. More were injured. It’s all in the midst of pride month, nationwide, so it kind of puts a little bit of a damper on the way I feel about celebrating. You just have to realize, we’re still here. Yes we are mourning our LGBT brothers and sisters, but we have to rejoice in being us, and being LGBT. This is our pride month. We have to celebrate.

I feel that the LGBTQ community, we have to be resilient. We have to always think of the positive, and think of tomorrow, and the future generation. That is what we’re trying to achieve, equality all around. You can’t take two steps back, you always have to move forward. Even though it is hard, and I’ve shed a lot of tears over Orlando, we have to move forward.

“Transcendent” does something so rare and important for a television show, which is to showcase the stories of trans women of color. What does it mean to you to be on television, as someone from these underrepresented communities?
There’s still a long way to go. You know, trans folks are in the media, not a lot, but a lot more than before. Being Asian — there’s hardly any cisgendered actresses. Well, in the United States, at least. I think it’s definitely groundbreaking. I don’t know, who knows? I might dabble in some acting one day too. It would be fun.
Your show is produced by the same team that created “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” One of the beautiful things about drag is that I think it really visibly breaks down the rigidity of gender, and showcases that gender is a really fluid thing. However, there are people who confuse trans women with drag performers. What would you tell them?

The reality is some trans women have found their truth through drag. For instance, one of our cast members, Bionka, started doing drag at a young age. That’s how she realized, “This is actually who I am.” It helped her on her journey to find her truth. I don’t get mad if people confuse one for the other, I just politely correct them. “This is not drag, this is trans.”

I feel that drag performers kind of fit in the “Q” [of LGBTQ] a little as well. They may identify as gay men, but it also fits into the “Q.” Janet Mock always says that there’s a scale of gender, and you can fit anywhere in the scale. It’s not just one or the other.
What is some of the best advice that you’ve given her, or that you would have given your younger self?

I think that probably the best advice that I gave LA was to know her worth. There was a point of time when she was pretty new to her transition, and she was kind of at a low point about dating as a trans woman. She was starting to just get these men sexualizing her and fetishizing her. It was really upsetting her, and she was just like, “That’s all these men want from me. They see me as a sexual object. They don’t want me for me.” I told her, “Honey, you need to know your worth. You deserve everything that you want, so don’t settle for anything less.” I think that transpires to everything in your life, not just dating. Whatever you want and whatever you dream of, that can be achieved, as long as you work for it.
It’s advice I give myself too. I don’t always take it, but hey it’s there. We’re human beings, honey, everybody makes mistakes. Hopefully you learn from your mistakes and move forward, and become a better person and learn from it.
