Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky take first baby Charlotte home

“Marc and I are overwhelmed with gratitude and love as we celebrate the birth of our son, Aidan Clinton Mezvinsky.“

Aidan is the second child for Chelsea and Marc Mezvinsky, an investment banker. Their first, a daughter named Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky, was born on Sept. 27, 2014.

Hillary Clinton frequently mentions her granddaughter, Charlotte, at campaign stops, often saying,

“FaceTime was invented for grandparents.“

Hillary and Bill Clinton said in a statement Saturday that they were “overjoyed to be grandparents again.”

“We are all over the moon as Chelsea and Marc welcome Charlotte’s little brother to the world and grateful for our many blessings. Chelsea and Aidan are both doing well and enjoying this very special time together.“

Jackie 60 was a Tuesday night party created in 1990 by Chi Chi Valenti, DJ Johnny Dynell, dancer/ choreographer Richard Move, London fashion designer Kitty Boots, and MC Paul Alexander, as an affront to what they thought was the sanitized club-going experience at the time. Mother was the final space that hosted the night, owned by Chi Chi And Johnny. It closed it’s door at the end of 1999.

Artist/director Rob Roth, one of the most pivotal members of the Jackie Factory collective, has now put together Night Paving: The Aural History of Jackie 60 & Mother– an audio installation that takes the form of a ‘silent disco’, and presents a soundscape journey of storytelling and music with the producers, performers, and attendees of the legendary space, including stories from Debbie Harry, Anohni (Antony and the Johnsons), Alba Clemente, Basil Twist, Marc Jacobs, Jack Doroshow (aka Flawless Sabrina), Joey Arias, Justin Vivian Bond, Amanda Lepore and more! Night Paving: The Aural History of Jackie 60 & Mother takes place Thursday, July 21, 10pm-midnight at The Highline in NYC, Tickets and more info HERE.

June 19, 1566– King James I commissioned what we now call The King James Bible and that version of the holy book is dedicated to him. King James loved men and he had sex with them, lots of sex. I wonder if Pat Robertson thinks about that while on a rant quoting Leviticus.

The title page of The King James Bible boasts that it was: “newly translated out of the original tongues”, but the work is actually a revision of The Bishop’s Bible of 1568, which was a revision of The Great Bible from 1539, which was itself based on three previous English translations from the early 1500s. So, the men who produced The King James Bible not only inherited all of the errors made by previous English translators, but invented some special ones of their own.

Without King James I of England  (he was also King James VI of Scotland, but that makes this post even more confusing), the most widely used Bible in Christiandom would never have been produced. When I was in Presbyterian Sunday School as a tot, I wish the teacher had thought to mention that the quoted scripture reading was from the Big Gay Bible.

When Mary Queen of Scots was forced to abdicate, her one year old son James became the King of Scotland. At 14 years old, James fell in love with 38 year old hipster Esme Stewart, a dude, the 1st Duke of Lennox. Accounts from the time claim:

“Stewart was in such love with him as in the open sight of the people often times he will clasp him about the neck with his arms and kiss him.”

The disapproving Scottish nobles forced Lennox to choose between James and his Catholicism. He chose James. Afterwards, Lennox’s life was threatened and he fled to France.

When Queen Elizabeth I died in 1603, James became King James I of England. His sexploits with men were well known and snooty Londoners snidely said:

 “Elizabeth was King, now James is Queen”.

In 1607, James fell in love while he attended a jousting tournament when got a gander at 17 year old cutie pie Robert Carr as he was being thrown from his horse, breaking his leg. James made Carr a gentleman of the Order Of The King’s Bedchamber. He showered Carr with gifts, among them the divorce decree for the married woman that Carr was in love with. When Carr married her, James gave Carr as a wedding gift the title 1st Earl of Somerset. Carr actually preferred the wife to James, even when it was revealed she had poisoned his BFF Sir Thomas Overbury, who had been very much against their marriage.  After she was arrested, in order to save her life, Carr threatened to reveal his own sexual relationship with King James at the trial. Carr didn’t, but his wife confessed her crime and they were both sentenced to death by beheading. James held them in the Tower Of London for seven long years, and then he pardoned them. He even gave them a country estate with their chance to begin anew.

James next fell for hunky George Villiers, whom he later made 1st Duke of Buckingham. Buckingham became very chummy with James’ Danish wife Anne (James had married her by proxy when she was just 14 years old). Anne called Buckingham her “dog”. But she addressed him tenderly in affectionate letters begging him to be “always true” to her husband. Buckingham wrote in a letter to James:

“Sir, all the way hither I entertained myself, your unworthy servant, with this dispute, whether you loved me now… better than at the time which I shall never forget at Farnham, where the bed’s head could not be found between the master and his dog.”

James described the marriage to Anne as: “The greatest earthly felicitie or miserie, that can come to a man.”

In their correspondence, James addressed Bucky as his spouse stating:

“I desire only to live in this world for your sake. I had rather live banished in any part of the Earth with you than live a sorrowful widow’s life without you. God bless you, my sweet child and lover, and grant that ye may ever be a comfort to your dear dad and husband”.

King James I was unashamed of his love for Buckingham and he told his critics:

“I, James, am neither a god nor an angel, but a man like any other. Therefore I act like a man and confess to loving those dear to me more than other men. You may be sure that I love the Earl of Buckingham more than anyone else, and more than you who are here assembled. I wish to speak in my own behalf and not to have it thought to be a defect, for Jesus Christ did the same, and therefore I cannot be blamed. Christ had John, and I have George.”

Anne left this world in 1619 when she was just 44 years old. James did not attend his wife’s funeral, claiming that he felt sick.

Buckingham was at his side when James took his last breath in 1625. He was just 50 years old and had probably drank himself to death. You can visit him now at Westminster Abbey.

If he had lived, King James I would be celebrating his 450th birthday today, June 19th. He probably would have had a small gathering, serving a special cake made by his French baker plus a little bubbly at Sir Elton John’s place in London’s posh Holland Park neighborhood,  along with assembled guests: Simon Callow, Stephen Fry, Lady Gaga Of Manhattan, The Beckhams, Dame Helen Mirren, and my boo, Harry Windsor.

Aside from his translation of The Bible, James’ legacy includes a theme park named Jamestown, located in the New World colony of Virginia. They feature a Mary Queen Of Scots Guillotine Ride and a Bubonic Plague Fun House featuring giant rats.

The King James Version of The Bible is my preferred version of the Christian book, with its powerful and poetic language in the manner and style of William Shakespeare.

It floats above the cobblestone streets like a pale, dreamy cloud. Pastel silks, hand-embroidered wallpapers, and cool swaths of marble punctuate the space, which balances centuries-old techniques and antiques with a confident, breezy modernism.

The gigantic bed in the master bedroom (so enormous that sheets had to be custom-made) was designed so every last family member can sit together on it, cousins and pets included. Now that the family in question is solidly based in LA, the apartment is for sale —giving us a chance to finally see it.

“Projects like this just don’t come along,” says Robin Standefer, principal at Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors (The Ace Hotel, the Boom Boom Room in The Standard hotel in New York, the goop MRKT pop-up in New York’s Time Warner Center, to name a few) with her husband Stephen Alesch

A lot of people have a problem with Princess Paltrow –not me. I met her once in Paris with her best friend, Stella McCartney. My old art dealer had a mosaic business and she has just done a bathroom in this apartment and we chatted about that and my work, until pal Michael Stipe showed up and she shifted to him but she couldn’t have been nicer.

But being practically perfect, rich, famous, gorgeous, talented, well-spoken, well-bred, well-connected –if I was a woman her age, I think I might be just a little bit jelly. My question always is, if you have loads of cash and created this beautiful place, why sell it? The answer is, who knows? Maybe she needs the $13 million.

This is Texas perfection. Austin is arguably THE most desirable place to live in the state and a house on Lake Austin, the ultimate. The Rockmoor Estate is a huge 60s residence on 660 feet of waterfront with 5 bedrooms and 5 baths, with a private (fenced in) boat dock and a swimming pool.

In the 1960s Gary Morrison and his wife Anna Mae commissioned George Page to design a modern home that would accommodate their expanding family. Grand daughter Anna Lee says,

“My siblings, cousins and our children had the pleasure of growing up there. The home was a place we went to fish, visit our grandparents, enjoy parties, host birthday parties and use my grandmother’s boat to learn to ski.“

It’s certainly a perfect time capsule of that period that looks unchanged in 50 years. It needs some updating but the location needs no improvement. If you can afford the $35 million, you can do whatever you want.

Actor Anton Yelchin, who appeared in the Star Trek films and Terminator Salvation, died early this morning in his rep has confirmed to People. Yelchin’s representative said in a statement,

“His family requests you respect their privacy at this time.“

The L.A. County Medical Examiner‘s office confirmed that Yelchin’s body was found pinned between a car and a gate at a home in Studio City, California. No cause of death has been declared yet while the coroner completes the autopsy. However, preliminary results were that he had head and chest injuries.

It is believed the vehicle was not properly parked before Yelchin walked to the rear of the vehicle and that it rolled and pinned him against the gate.

Born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, Yelchin and his family moved to the United States in 1989. His parents were celebrated Russian ice skaters Irina (Korina) and Viktor Yelchin. His last photo, a selfie during a trip to Nantasket, Massachusetts, was posted two weeks ago on Intstagram.

Yelchin is in the third entry in the rebooted Star Trek film, Star Trek Beyond due out this summer. The actor’s final film will be Thoroughbred, which he wrapped in Boston just two weeks ago.

He was 27.

Was there more to yesterday’s sad death of Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin than meets the eye? Lindsay Lohan seems to think so. As TMZ reported Sunday morning, Yelchin died when he was pinned between his Jeep and a brick mailbox attached to his home’s security gate. To make matters sadder, it probably could have been prevented, as his car had been recalled because of a shifting mechanism that made it difficult to tell which gear it was in. Anton thought his car was in “park” while it was actually in “neutral,” causing it to roll on the incline that led to his house.

Again: Tragic, but certainly not suspicious.

Lindsay Lohan though took to her Instagram and thoughtlessly inferred that somehow “Hollywood” was to blame. Huh?

HBO’s Looking. You either WORSHIPPED it or LOATHED it. Very few in-betweens. I loved it, but only the second season when wowlebrity Danny Franzese came on board as the lovable bear/god Eddie.

After being unceremoniously dumped by the network last year, though, the whole gang returns next month to wrap up the loose ends.

In News You Might Have Missed: Five people have reportedly been killed in a mass shooting at a gay bar in Mexico last month. On May 22, three gunmen entered La Madame, an LGBT bar in Xalapa, and carried out a mass shooting. According to a statement by the state prosecutor, five people were killed, 14 injured, of which 12 have been discharged from hospital. Contradictory reports, however, claim there may have been many more deaths.

Via Gay Star News:

Regeneración reports a witness who entered the bar at the time of the shooting says he took refuge in a cupboard as soon as he heard the shootings. He says three males with weapons entered the bar, and soon started massacring people. He could hear screams.

Photos are said to show at least seven killed.

Luis Donaldo Rivera Calderon was one of the victims named by the media. A promising athlete and student, he had gone to the bar with his uncle Luis Manuel Rivera Aguilar.

‘They opened the doors violently and drew their guns. There were shouts,’ the uncle told local media. ‘They had no mercy. Bullets ricocheted everywhere. The white tiles were stained red. Those who wanted to escape slipped in puddles of blood.’

‘It was a slaughterhouse,’ he added.

A 24-year-old employee told reporters at El Noreste she witnessed an armed group enter the bar and shot into a crowd of more than 200 people. She said there were at least 15 dead and multiple wounded, who were taken to various hospitals.

Police said they launched a search for the gunmen, implementing ‘special security protocols for several hours’, but no arrests were made.

Zúniga Martínez, the mayor of Xalapa, has said La Madame will be shut down after it appears one of the injured victims was a 15-year-old girl.

Apparently, it wasn’t until last week’s mass shooting in Orlando that the international press deemed this story worthy of telling.

Senators couldn’t muster enough support to pass a series of gun control measures today. The measures Monday each went down in succession largely down party line votes.

The Senate rejected first a Republican proposal to update the background check system for gun purchases, which would have required states to add more information on mental health records to a national database.

A second proposal to expand the background check system for those buying guns to require checks at gun shows and for online purchases went down 44-56. Connecticut Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy, who launched a nearly 15-hour filibuster sponsored the proposal.

A Democratic option that sought to bar all gun sales to those individuals on the terror watch list failed 47-53, the second time the proposal went down to defeat after a mass shooting. California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein originally pushed the proposal in December after a shooting in San Bernardino, and revived it after the Orlando nightclub shooting.

Feinstein’s plan did garner the support of some in the GOP, including Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire who is facing a tough re-election campaign this year.

Sen. Mark Kirk, another Republican up for re-election, voted with Democrats on all of the four amendments. The NRA who holds powerful sway among Republicans and moderate Democrats rote saying,

“They’re blaming you, the (National Rifle Association) for the terrorist attack in Orlando and taking advantage of this tragedy to push their gun control agenda while emotions run high.”

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, meanwhile, blasted Republicans for withholding support for his party’s plans, saying on the Senate floor that

“Senate Republicans should be embarrassed –but they are not, because the NRA is happy.”

Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar told CNN’s Jim Sciutto that while there remains fierce resistance in the House –where Republicans outnumber Democrats 247-188– the push for action in the wake of the Orlando terror attack reflects new momentum in the gun control debate. Klobuchar said,

“I don’t know that it’s going to be different than when we had votes in the past, but there is one thing that is different. People are starting to talk. There are starting to be negotiations going on. I think that’s very important.”

According to PAPER magazine:

His gender-fluid collection called “Picnic in the Society,” featured scowling male and female models with bonafide blemishes adorning their normally porcelain faces.

It’s unclear if the blemishes were artificial, but some of the breakouts look startlingly real and aggressive…

So throwaway the Clearasil, it’s time to embrace your adult acne. Wear those pus-y pimples with pride! Check out some of the images, above and below.

Selma Blair was removed from a Delta flight on a stretcher, this evening, after a bizarre on-air freakout in which the The People VS OJ Simpson star seemed to hint that something deeply troubling was going on in her life.

According to TMZ

Witnesses on a flight from Cancun, Mexico to LAX tell us, Blair was in first class and drinking wine. The witnesses say it appeared she put something in the glass and mixed it in.

We’re told she suddenly started crying, “He burns my private parts. He won’t let me eat or drink.”

The witnesses say she continued, “He beats me. He’s going to kill me.”

We’re told 2 nurses on board came over to help and checked her bags for pills.

TMZ sources say the pilot radioed ahead saying there was a passenger on board who had been mixing alcohol and meds. When the plane landed, Blair was taken off on a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital.

This is all very peculiar. What could she have been talking about? “He burns my private parts” “He beats me” “He’s going to kill me”?

I hope it’s just drug paranoia and not something more worrisome. Well, that’s not true: I hope it’s NOT drug paranoia either… But either way, I think it’s time somebody took a deeper look into what’s going on with Selma.

In 1976, a chemistry teacher at the George Stevens Academy, in Maine, wanted to see how long it would take for a fresh Twinkie to decompose. He unwrapped it, put it on the chalkboard, and 40 years later, that question is still unanswered, as mould simply refuses to grow on the world’s oldest Twinkie.

Libby Rosemeier, George Stevens Academy’s dean of students, was a student in Professor Roger Bennatti’s class on the day the experiment began.

“We were studying the chemistry of food. We went next door to the store, bought Twinkies and we gave them to Professor Bennatti and [asked him], ‘How many chemicals do you think are in something like this?’” Rosemeier recalls. “He said, ‘Let’s find out and see how long it lasts.’ He opened the Twinkie package, ate one, and put the other one on top of the [chalkboard].” The popular treat remained in his classroom for the next 28 years, until the chemistry teacher retired. From then on, the world’s oldest Twinkie became Rosemeier’s responsibility, and she had her father make a glass case to store it in.

Hostess officially states that a Twinkie’s shelf life is 25 days. Clearly, that isn’t the case. Professor Bennatti’s now iconic Twinkie has been sitting in a glass case for four decades now, and even though it might not be safe to eat, it still retains its color and shape…. and, as Oddity Central points out, if mould hasn’t grown on it so far, chances are it never will.

Although many perceive this famous Twinkie as an indictment of processed foods and preservatives, Bennatti said it is simply an ongoing science experiment, one that may never end. He does admit that the ancient treat’s fame, after it was featured on popular channels like MTV, CNN or BBC, was certainly bad publicity for Hostess. “I’m surprised they haven’t sent a SWAT team to come destroy it,” he jokingly told Bangor Daily News, 3 years ago.

Apparently students volunteer all the time to take a bite out of it, but Rosemeier says it would be a shame to stop the experiment prematurely. Therefor the Twinkie will likely remain in its glass case at George Stevens Academy until the dean retires in a few years, when  it will fall into someone else’s care. “And it will probably keep changing hands for the next 100 years, or more.”

Dangerous Minds and Cultura Inquieta have curated galleries of bizarre early hairdryers, including the world’s first in 1888 (above), from a beauty salon in France owned by Alexandre Godefroy that attached to a pipe for a chimney or a gas stove and blew hot air through a giant alien-looking metal helmet. Below, other quirky hot-air contraptions from throughout the decades that make me gag just looking at them.

Some of these space-aged looking gizmos date as far back as the early 1920s and could be found in public bath houses. In 1930, German hair care company Wella debuted a motorized dryer that looked like it was straight out of a scene from Fritz Lang’s Metropolis (pictured below). Others are just too wacky for words but as a girl with long hair—I get it. Before the advent of the hair dryer women would dry their hair by a fire (yikes!) or just let it dry on its own. In the words of those Virginia Slim ads “You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby” when it comes to hair maintenance. Lots of images of far-out looking hair dryers of yesteryear follow.
