Did you catch Miss California on last night’s Miss USA pageant? Poor dear. Nadia Mejia – that’s her name – caught some flak for flubbing the answer to her question about economic inequality
After stumbling, closing her eyes, and pausing for what seemed like an eternity, she said:
“I think that the rich need to be able to be giving and I think the poor need to work hard and I think the middle class need to come together and find an in-between,” she eventually said.
Awwww. She tried.
Social media went into a feeding frenzy, of course, and mocked her rather relentlessly.
Mejia answered her critics on Instagram, writing that she was praying to God for the right words and He answered, “It’ll take longer than 30 seconds to answer that, babe.” She also posted a video of her singing “I don’t know about the economy” to the tune of the Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way.
But here’s what you DIDN’T know. Twenty-year-old model Nadia is ALSO the daughter of 1990s one-hit-wonder singer Gerardo, of “Rico Suave” fame. YES, THE SHIRTLESS ECUADORIAN SEX GOD WITH THE WEIRDLY ALTERNATING HAIR LENGTHS, WHO SET OUR HEARTS AND LOINS AFLAME AND CHANGED THE DIRECTION OF POP MUSIC FOREVER. My GOD I loved him. Not a day has gone by since 1990 that I have not wondered what life would be like as Mrs Gerardo. Now I know my answer. We’d have a wonderful life with our lovely daughter Nadia.
