It’s Christmas in June! The new Ninebot by Segway miniPRO is arriving in the U.S. today. The miniPRO is really a Segway, the brainchild of inventor Dean Kamen, but since he unveiled the mobility device that was supposed to change the way we get around, the company has changed hands several times. Now Segway/Ninebot is owned by Chinese tech giant Xiaomi.

Unlike most hover boards the miniPRO has a pair of solid rubber wheels, a pair of inflatable, 10.5 inch tires and a stem that sticks up from the middle, that is a Knee Control Bar. It fits between your knees and gives the rider a level of stability and control that they might not feel with hoverboards.

It can be also remote controlled via the app and can go 14 miles on one charge of its battery at up to 10 MPH.

The U.S. has new, stricter UL certifications after the rash of hoverboard fires last year and Segway was one of the first to get the new safety certification. Other safety features include headlights and backup lights and a battery indicator.

It also includes app-based anti-theft technology that will launch an alarm if someone other than you tries to touch your miniPRO. The pre-sale is live on Amazon RIGHT NOW and deliveries could happen as soon as the end of the month –and they are just $1000. I want one! Now THIS looks like the 21st century. Watch.

Rabid Lady Gaga fans are LIVID with Madonna and Mariah Carey, who they feel are appropriating gay culture for their own nefarious purposes. To combat those “old hags,” Little Monsters have started a petition on Change.Org which states:

Madonna and Mariah Carey, who are straight, have been exploiting the gay community for years (especially Madonna). Neither have done anything concrete for our community like Lady Gaga has. Mariah Carey recently received a GLAAD award for no reason whatsoever, while Lady Gaga has set up her Born This Way Foundation, which aims to help millions of LGBT youth. Madonna and Mariah Carey must donate a portion of their money earned (at least 10 percent) to the Born This Way Foundation.

Ah, youth. So sure of itself. So quick to judgment on things they know nothing of. Madonna has done NOTHING for the gay community? Really? Madonna, one of the earliest and most outspoken LGBT allies, who was there for the gay community during its darkest hours, who personally lost dozens if not hundreds of friends, and who galvanized the music industry to rally around GMHC and GLAAD and other organizations.

But if Little Monsters think she’s done nothing, well, that MUST be the gays.

“Misery” is the third single off her album This Is What The Truth Feels Like and was directed by frequent collaborator Sophie Muller. “Misery” isn’t about Misery at all, it is, in fact, an upbeat pop song about her “her newfound happiness with boyfriend Blake Shelton.”

She recently told Entertainment Weekly:

“I’ve never had a record that’s been about happiness, so that feels really good and different. And I’ve never had records come out while it’s going on.” Lyrics like “Put me out of my misery/ hurry up come see me” and “You’re like drugs to me/ I’m so into you totally” echo the sentiment.

People magazine is reporting that America’s sweetheart Taylor Swift and her ab-tastic DJ boyfriend Calvin Harris are breaking up.

“There was no drama. Things just don’t work out sometimes,” says an insider.

Sad. And oddly timed, as Calvin is recovering from a recent car crash and Taylor has been the very model of a doting GF, spending every minute by his side.

For a gay man of a certain age, coming out of the closet was a major, if not the defining event of your life. So, I especially appreciate the very casual manner in which young gay celebrities these days break the news by casually mentioning it in paragraph seven of a magazine profile. Thank you, Ellen Page, Neil Patrick Harris and Matt Bomer. That is real progress. It’s the 21st century, Kevin Spacey!

Zachary Quinto credits his role in the Tony Award winning 2012 Broadway production of Tony Kushner’s modern masterpiece, Angels In America, in which he played a gay man who leaves his AIDS-afflicted boyfriend, for helping him to come out of the closet and putting him further in touch with the struggles faced by other gay Americans.

Quinto:

“As a gay man I look at the gay kids committing suicide from being bullied and there’s a hopelessness that surrounds it, but as a human being I look at it and say ‘Why? Where’s this disparity coming from, and why can’t we as a culture & society dig deeper to examine that?’ We’re terrified of facing ourselves. When I found out that young Jamey Rodemeyer killed himself, I felt deeply troubled. But when I found out that Rodemeyer had made an ‘It Gets Better’ video only months before taking his own life, I felt indescribable despair.”

“In light of Jamey’s death, it became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality. Our society needs to recognize the unstoppable momentum toward unequivocal civil equality for every gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered citizen of this country.”

But, Quinto has really been an advocate for Gay Rights even before his coming out of the closet. He put out his own It Gets Better video in 2011, feeding the speculation about his own sexuality, as did the fact that he’s played a number of gay roles on stage and film.

“The fact that these things are such hot-button issues right now, socially & politically, I would much rather talk about that than talk about who I sleep with. I would love to be a voice in this maelstrom of chaos & obsessive celebrity infatuation that says, ‘Let’s talk about something that matters.’”

Last year, I stayed with NBC’s limited series The Slap after the first episode because of Quinto’s strong work playing a particularly brutish heterosexual with real intensity and conviction. It was worth it, the series was provocative and well-acted. Quinto’s own gayness seemed to have been wonderfully ignored in reviews of the series. He can play sensitive also, gathering strong reviews for the 2013-14 Broadway revival of Tennessee William’s classic The Glass Menagerie, playing opposite the openly gay Cherry Jones.

Quinto inherited of the iconic Mr. Spock role in JJ Abrams‘ Star Trek reboot (2010, 2012). He has had interesting, idiosyncratic roles on television in Heroes, Girls, Hannibal, plus two  seasons of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story, and in the film Margin Call (2011), which he also produced. Quinto was Executive Producer of the terrific Robert Redford starring vehicle, All Is Lost (2013).

In 2015, Quinto worked on two films with gay themes: I Am Michael opposite my boo James Franco, which garnered terrific buzz at the Sundance Film Festival, and also portraying gay guy Glenn Greenwald in Oliver Stone’s Edward Snowden flick Snowden, to be released in September. Also out next month, the hotly anticipated Star Trek Beyond, returning as that pointy-eared dude. Quinto has that ability to be an emotional shape-shifter, easily charming, and at turns dangerous and volatile.

Quinto became good friends with the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy. Quinto:

“I just enjoyed spending time with him and I recognized a lot of qualities in him that I aspire to and I found him incredibly generous and intelligent and compassionate and funny. Leonard and I were like family. I knew that Leonard was leaving the world imminently, but he wanted me to focus on my work and take care of myself.”

My sources tell me that Quinto is committed to play George Gershwin in a Steven Spielberg directed bio-pic. This seems like a very good idea to me.

He once dated cutie-pie Jonathan Groff, star of the already missed HBO’s Looking and currently on Broadway in a little musical called Hamilton. My sources say Quinto recently purchased a loft in NoHo neighborhood of NYC with his new BF, an artist/model, Miles McMillan. I’ve seen pictures; together they make a whole lot of cute.

“OK, yes, there’s a lot of gay actors that are open, many more now than there were 10 years ago. But I still feel like I’m occupying kind of a unique space. I believe in the power of intention to change the landscape of our society and it is my intention to live an authentic life of compassion and integrity and action.”

Quinto was a big Barack Obama supporter in the last two elections, but he says he is undecided in 2016.

Quinto seems secure in the knowledge that, unlike many of his openly gay predecessors, he is eminently employable.

“I work more now than I ever did when I was in the closet and I’m doing a wider range and variety of roles than I ever did before I came out. I feel like that’s what I need to keep demanding of myself and what I need to keep demanding of the industry.”

I find Quinto to be quite delicious and super-talented. He could do a yummy Vulcan mind-meld on me anytime.

Wow. Just wow. Clueless actress/FOX News correspondent/professional troll Stacy Dash was on Entertainment Tonight promoting her new book There Goes My Social Life: From Clueless to Conservative.

ET’s Nischelle Turner asked her about fellow Republican Caitlyn Jenner, and Dash let loose a barrage of hate filled comments, saying (in effect) she shouldn’t have to suffer for the rights of transgender people:

“It’s tyranny by the minority. Why do I have to suffer because you can’t decide what you wanna be that day? … It’s your body! So, it’s your decision, right? We all make choices.”

Turner then noted that gender identity is not a choice, to which Dash replied:

“OK, then go in the bushes. I don’t know what to tell you, but I’m not gonna put my child’s life at risk because you want to change a law. that you can be comfortable with your beliefs — which means I have to change my beliefs and my rights? No.”

First of all, why would Entertainment Tonight give that homophobic/transphobic twit a platform to spew her hate speech? And even if they thought she was just going to innocently publicize her book or whatever, the MINUTE she started on her anti-trans rant, shouldn’t somebody have pulled the plug? Or at the VERY LEAST not run the piece? Or edit that crap out? WORSE, when Dash makes her “go in the bushes” crack, Turner gasps, then lets out a laugh. LET’S OUT A LAUGH.

SHAME ON YOU, NISCHELLE TURNER!

Also, lets just point out, as we always have to with Republicans who wish to take our rights, the needs of the many do not outweigh the needs of the few.

A wise man once said:

Majority in numbers isn’t an acceptable excuse to sacrifice the needs of anybody to fulfill the needs of someone else. To believe otherwise would give those in the majority, for no other reason than their majority, the absolute right to unlimited predation on any minority so long as the majority believed themselves bettered by it.

RadarOnline has published the names of celebrity clients in Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss‘ infamous “little black book.” The red Gucci day planner is said to contain the names of world-famous actors, musicians, sports figures, movie producers, directors, agency execs and politicians. Hollywood has been whispering about who is listed in the tome since her arrest in 1993.

Until now, the only name publicly identified was Charlie Sheen, who has acknowledged he was a longtime customer.

According to Radar, the who’s who of Hollywood listed include

Johnny Depp; “Star Wars” creator George Lucas; Hugh Hefner; rocker Billy Idol; billionaire Steve Bing; O.J. Simpson defense attorney Robert Shapiro; movie producer Robert Evans; “Beverly Hills Cop” producer Don Simpson; and late businessman and international financier Bernard “Bernie” Cornfeld.

There are also numerous entries that could correspond to the rich and famous, including a mention of “Mario (Formula One),” which could indicate race car driver Mario Andretti and “Sultan Ben Abdul” — a likely mention of former Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Sultan bin Abdelaziz.

Radar’s story comes with the caveat

There is NO SUGGESTION any of these men procured call-girls from Fleiss — however their names appear in her private journal that is floating around the shadowy underbelly of Hollywood, and has seen by multiple Radar investigators.

“It is beyond shocking!” said a source who has seen the book’s pages containing scribbled names, phone numbers and johns’ sexual fetishes.

“When the full list of these names get around, it’s going to cause a sensation — as well as the beginning of the end for many a celebrity’s career!”

Hmmmm. I don’t know how shocking – or career-ending – it is to discover that Charlie Sheen, Johnny Depp, Billy Idol, and Robert Evans procured call girls 25 years ago.

It should be noted that Fleiss has long refused to detail her clients and did not provide the cavalcade of celebrities Radar.

In various images you can find Andy Warhol hanging in Washington Square Park with Basquiat; watching Michelangelo paint the Sistine Chapel; paying visits to a Frida Kahlo Retrospective, and Groovy Bob’s art scene.

In the Studio 54 panel, I instantly recognize Liza, Halston, Elton John, James Brown, Grace Jones, Michael Jackson, Disco Sally, and John McEnroe. Other pics contain references to Keith Haring, Dalí, Koons, Michelangelo, Botticelli, and Gilbert & George.

From Dangerous Minds:

In each panel, the task is to pore over the image and detect the acknowledged master of pop art, always wearing a white-and-blue striped shirt and always wearing sunglasses (you can usually tell the decoys because they aren’t wearing the sunglasses).

As Carey Dunne of Hyperallergic points out, the fun of detecting the well-known personages in the panels actually is a pretty decent analogue for Warhol’s own celebrity-drenched life.

Too often, art historical texts suck the soul out of their subjects with dry overanalysis, making the art world seem more rarefied and art in general seem more impenetrable than it actually is. Disguised as just a cute picture book, Where’s Warhol is an antidote to this kind of artspeak-y pretension. Its accessibility mirrors that of Warhol’s work: Pop, colorful, playful, it’s something even non-art nerds might enjoy reading, perhaps while sitting under a Campbell’s Soup Can poster.

Season 6 RuPaul’s Drag Race crowned-queen Bianca Del Rio‘s comedy film Hurricane Bianca about a New York teacher who moves to a small town in Texas, gets fired for being gay, and returns disguised in drag to get revenge on the people who were nasty to him is making it’s debut at the Inside Out LGBT Film Festival in Toronto on Friday, June 3!

Wolfe Releasing got the exclusive worldwide rights to release the film and plans to real it in the fall or winter of this year! Hurricane Bianca was produced by Emmy Award winning filmmaker Ash Christian and directed by Bianca’s good friend (and WOW MCN partner!) Matt Kugelman. Matt said of the film:

In terms of the audience, this is a gay movie about a gay man, but there is a lot of crossover when it comes to interest. It’s a little Mrs. Doubtfire meets Revenge of the Nerds in terms of plot. But in terms of style it’s going to be a little darker. It will still be funny but I think it will have a little bit of a Tim Burton-esque feel. A little Edward Scissiorhands in terms of its tone.

In terms of homosexuals being able to be fired for their sexual orientation, Bianca said:

It was a shocking fact that I was unaware of. When Matt told me I was like, “Are you fucking kidding me?” And the weird thing is that we have gay marriage and adoption rights, which are both choices. You have to have a job! … I was immediately interested in making a movie about it—not to make it a big political thing, but to bring awareness in a comedic way.

It’s been 27 years since our old friend, ’80s nightlife documentarian Nelson Sullivan, passed away. Nelson’s work was hugely influential to everybody at WoW. So much so, that back in the early ’90s, Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey made a documentary about their friend, titling it Nelson Sullivan’s World of Wonder. Later, when naming their production company, they decided upon World of Wonder as a tribute to him.

Now, Nelson is getting some love at a group show at the Night Gallery here in Los Angeles.

Night Gallery is proud to present Aunt Nancy, an exhibition of work by Alexandra Noel, Andy Robert, Anna Rosen, Chloe Seibert, Nelson Sullivan, and Sam Lipp. Aunt Nancy is titled after the aunt of Nelson Sullivan, whose prolific video practice documented his life and friends in downtown New York in the 1980s, as well as visits to his hometown of Kershaw, South Carolina, where Nancy lived.

Aunt Nancy appears in many of Sullivan’s videos, presented as a simultaneously sympathetic, strong, and vulnerable figure. The works included in the exhibition were created from personal memories, found photographs, knick knacks, and the art of storytelling. Nelson Sullivan’s portrayal of Aunt Nancy embodies a number of interpersonal dynamics underlying the works in the show: parent to child, adult self to childhood memory, and self to home—that is, the hometown you find yourself in versus the home that you make for yourself as an adult.

Sam Lipp was born in 1989, and lives and works in New York. Recent exhibitions include X Bienal de Nicaragua, Managua; Balice Hertling, Paris; Ellis King, Dublin; Éric Hussenot, Paris; Central Fine, Miami; Neochrome, Turin; Bodega, New York; and Arcadia Missa, London. Lipp is also the co-director of Queer Thoughts, a gallery in NYC.

Anna Rosen was born in 1984 in Arlington, VA, and received her BFA from RISD in 2006 and her MFA from Columbia University in 2010. Rosen has been included in exhibitions at Silberkuppe, Berlin; and at Murray Guy, American Medium, and Derek Eller Gallery, New York. In 2016, she will have a solo exhibition at Kerry Schuss, New York, and will also be included in exhibitions at Lyles & King, New York, and at Night Gallery, Los Angeles. She had a two-person exhibition with the artist John Miller at Malraux’s Place, Brooklyn, in 2014, and a solo exhibition at Night Gallery in 2013. Rosen is based in New York.

Chloe Seibert was born in New York in 1989, and lives and works in Chicago. Recent exhibitions include Balice Hertling, Paris; Efrain Lopez, Chicago; American Medium, Brooklyn; COOPER COLE, Toronto; and Atlanta Contemporary. Upcoming exhibitions include Queer Thoughts, New York; and Courtney Blades, Chicago.

Nelson Sullivan was born in 1948 in Kershaw, SC, and lived in New York during the 1980s, where he documented the now-legendary Downtown scene in a prolific and seminal body of videos. His work has been featured in numerous film festivals in the United States and Europe, and has also been shown in museum and gallery exhibitions, most recently Greater New York at MoMA P.S.1 in 2015-16. Sullivan died in New York on July 4, 1989.

Alexandra Noel was born in 1989, and lives and works in Los Angeles. Recent exhibitions include Bodega, New York; Neochrome, Turin; Hester, New York; and Shanaynay, Paris. Her first book By Rote was published by Holoholo Books in 2015.

Andy Robert was born in 1984 in Les Cayes, Haiti, and received his MFA from California Institute of the Arts in 2011. He attended the Whitney Independent Study Program in 2014-2015, and in summer of 2016 will attend Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Robert has exhibited at the Bienal de las Fronteras (Instituto Tamaulipeco para la Cultura y las Artes) in Tamaulipas, Mexico, Papillion Art in Los Angeles, Dimensions Variable in Miami, and the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York. Robert is a recipient of the Rema Hort Mann Foundation Grant, and he is based in Los Angeles.

When New York City’s dilapidated downtown was starting to wake up and smell the cocaine, the South Carolina expatriate Nelson Sullivan had already quit his music-store job, moved into an old building in the Meatpacking District (where all manner of meat was still being packed), and begun videotaping 24/7 what would become the city’s most decadent decade: the 1980s. With his old-school camcorder strapped to his shoulder like a third arm, Nelson manouvered through streets and past doormen, getting up-close and personal with the big and small stars of the new scene, all the while providing a continuous chatty narration in his southern drawl, y’all. He was always welcome, whether it was backstage with the Pyramid drag queens, at Limelight with the clubkids, or visiting Sylvia Miles in her kitchen. Everyone felt comfortable talking to him and his camera. Over the course of his short life (after making an eerily prophetic tape sitting by the Hudson River on July 3, 1989, he died suddenly of a heart attack at age 41 the next day), he had amassed nearly 1,500 hours of tape, the footage including the likes of everyone from Andy Warhol to Keith Haring to John Sex to Cookie Mueller to Deee-Lite to a not-yet-famous RuPaul (always a delight!) to drag queen Christina and other denizens of the Chelsea Hotel to anyone who was anyone, which in those days was everyone. -Stephan Saban

“At the time, we were broke, living in a sixth-floor walk-up in crack-infested Alphabet City. It had that inverse kind of glamour that people bedazzle as ‘bohemian’: drug dealers, addicts, hookers, and even a psychotic murderer. The fag-end of the American dream. We loved almost every minute of it!

“There was a lone club, the Pyramid, on Avenue A and 7th Street – the very edge of civilization. There was something about the place. It pulled people in. Fabulous drag artistes. Hapi Phace. Tabboo. Faye Runway. Sister Dimension. Lypsinka. And occasionally, from Atlanta, the not-yet-famous RuPaul and Lady Bunny. Todd Haynes debuted his notorious Karen Carpenter film there. Victor Weaver and Trey Speegle hosted “Straight to Hell” strip parties on Sunday nights. And on hand almost every night was Nelson Sullivan, a gentleman charmer with the most languid southern drawl and a fag in his mouth, videotaping everyone and everything.

“That camera was like a pirate’s parrot, permanently perched on his shoulder. He said that one day he was going to edit his thousands of hours of material into a public access cable show. But on July 4, 1989, he dropped dead of a heart attack. Nelson’s death was our call to action. We didn’t really know what public access was, but we soon learned. Cable companies had to make a couple of channels available for local community access. In other words, people could make their own shows and get them on TV. Simple as that. They could be about whatever they wanted them to be. There was no editorial screening process. Slots were assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Manhattan’s public access channels presented a glittering seam of talent. Willa Sands – possibly tipsy – hosting Happy Hour. John Wallowitch – no less tipsy – banging out “Sing Along in Lithuanian” on the piano and knocking back Long Island Iced Teas. He was friends with Warhol, reportedly. Mrs Mouth, who painted a face on her upside-down chin then talked about picking her nose. And, for the adults, Voyeur Vision, where viewers could call in and talk to comely Lynn lying on a bed, touching herself where they requested. And veteran fixture Robin Byrd, in her trademark crocheted bikini, introducing strippers.

“It was pure Videodrome, but without the inconvenience of sprouting a video vagina. We figured there was no reason we couldn’t make a public access show, so we came up with the idea of Flaunt It! TV, a talk show taped once a week at New York’s Limelight nightclub, and hosted by us. Quentin Crisp, Kate O’Toole, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Michelangelo Signorile, Michael Musto, and a monosyllabic Stephen Saban were some of the long-suffering guests on the short-lived show. It wasn’t exactly ratings gold. It ran for four episodes before we collapsed in exhaustion, followed by a prolonged period of deep depression. Not that failure ever stopped us. In the long run it was our fuel.”

Witnesses say Colin Murphy, a 23-year-old Ohio man, was spotted stumbling around a Kroger grocery store in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Cincinnati, slurring his speech and reeking of booze. Suddenly, hestripped naked in front of a male employee, leapt up onto the a scanner at the self-checkout register and emptied his bowels on the U-Scan It.

What a crappy thing to do.

Murphy was charged with public indecency and disorderly conduct and taken to the Hamilton County Jail.

He was later released on $2,000 bail and barred him from returning to the soiled Kroger, according to WLWT.com.

In an AOL Maker’s interview, Caitlyn Jenner revealed that during their 24-year marriage, Kris laid down the law, telling her she wasn’t allowed to wear women’s clothing at home.

“The rules, kind of, for Kris and I [were] don’t dress up, certainly around the house,” she disclosed, adding that her wife told her, “If you really feel the need to do that, when you’re on the road take stuff and do that.”

“So I’d go on the road for speaking engagements, take a bunch of stuff, dress up at the hotel, walk around, do whatever I wanted to do, just to feel a little bit better about myself,” she said. “And I kind of dealt with it that way.”

While she did most of her dressing up while she traveled, Caitlyn admitted that in the early days of their relationship, she and Kris dressed up together a few times …

“…but then she didn’t want anymore part of that.”

“I respected that and kind of kept it away but it was always there,” she added. “A lot of times too when you have somebody in your life that’s diminishing that, you can deal with that but it gets tougher and tougher and tougher with time.”

Sad. As anyone can tell you, dressing up at home is one of life’s great pleasures. My 3AM fashion shows for the stuffed animals on my bed are among my absolute happiest times. It’s a shame that Kris would stifle those impulses. (via US magazine)

On that list? AIs rounding up humans for concentration camps, committing spermicide against humanity, and nothing less than the destruction of the the planet, a significant portion of the solar system, or even the universe!!! Channel 4 in the UK is airing a new documentary about “pup play,” the act of dressing and inhabiting the role of a dog while another person takes on the role of handler or trainer. The Secret Life of Human Pups tackles the sexual (or not – totally up to you) subculture that grew out of the BDSM community and has exploded in recent years.
