Michael Moore talks to a videographer while out shopping in Beverly Hills

Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore is in intensive care with pneumonia in New York City. Moore, who has has taken an active role in protesting the Flint water crisis, is asking fans to help get the word out about his latest film, Where to Invade Next?. He wrote on Facebook Friday,

“Between bustin’ it 4 my movie opening next wk, plus in & out of Flint, plus Election work, I find myself today in an ICU w/pneumonia. I’m now worried about my film’s release. I can’t fly, I have to recover, and in one week (February 12th) this great movie I’ve put so much of my life into is going to open in theaters — with little or no assistance from me.

So, would it be OK to enlist your help in a sort of quickly cobbled-together “army” of grassroots foot soldiers, wherein you could pitch in where you live (and on social media) to let people know about my movie? I could post some ideas tomorrow of things you and your friends could do.”

He goes on to say the grueling schedule to promote the film led to him ending up in the I.C.U.

“Let’s just say things didn’t look good Sunday night. But thanks to a combination of good doctors, decent hospital food and 2nd term Obamacare, I’m doing much better.”

Moore, among others like Bowling for Columbine, made the brilliant Fahrenheit 9/11, which remains the highest grossing documentary in history. He himself remains a political force with his latest, Where To Invade Next? focusing on what America can learn from other countries as he “invades” the countries to see what they have to offer.

Screen Shot 2016-02-07 at 12.58.08 AM

Naturally, we had to find out what the Queen Diva thought about working with Queen Bey. Freedia said:

It’s was amazing to slay on the Queen Bey track! I love her energy, and I love her—you best to believer!! 🐝🐝

Freedia also explained to Fuse:

It was a total shocker when I got a call from Beyonce’s publicist and she said Beyoncé wanted me to get on this track. When I heard the track and the concept behind it, which was Beyoncé paying homage to her roots (New Iberia, La.), I was even more excited! It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life and I was beyond honored to work with the original Queen B. I think it turned out amazing too!

February 7: It’s YOUR Birthday, Bitch!

#BornThisDay: Olympian, Mark Tewksbury

twekes

February 7, 1968Mark Tewksbury:

“Keeping up the image of Canada’s boy next door, while feeling a lot like the girl next door wasn’t very easy.”

2016: Leap Year, Republican and Democratic National Conventions, a Presidential Election, The End Of The World, and the Rio De Janeiro  Summer Olympic Games!

Johnny Weissmuller, Ian Thorpe, Matt Biondi, Michael Phelpes, and of course Mark Spitz… I am zany for Olympic swimmers! In 2013, lovely, lithe Tom Daley beat the tabloids at their own game: he came out, entirely on his own terms. Not that unusual in the 21st century, but still a rarity in sports. On his own YouTube channel, Daley announced he had something to say: he had fallen in love, and it just so happened to be with a guy. I like the new matter-of-fact method of opening the closet door. When Mark Tewksbury won Olympic gold in 1992, there were no gay characters on television and talking about his sexuality was considered taboo. There were no positive gay role models in sports.

Olympic medalist Tewksbury was closeted throughout his competitive swimming career, but since coming out of the closet, he has become a strong advocate for LGBTQ rights. Going into 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Tewksbury was ranked 4th in the world, and most experts picked him as one of the powerful American swimmers to win the gold medal. Tewksbury’s winning gold was Canada’s first at the Barcelona games and the first Canadian gold medal in swimming since the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, which Russia had boycotted. Tewksbury also won a bronze medal in the relay event in Barcelona. He made the cover of Time Magazine. He was inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall Of Fame, the Canadian Sports Hall Of Fame, & the International Swimming Hall Of Fame, and he was named Canada’s Male Athlete Of The Year for 1992.

In December 1998, Tewksbury told the world that he was gay. He was the first Canadian athlete to voluntarily state his gayness and his announcement drew a lot of public attention. In 1998, he lost a very lucrative contract as a motivational speaker because he was “too openly gay.

Like most athletes that happen to be gay, Tewksbury competed for years while in the closet, winning medals and making money doing endorsements.  Tewksbury:

“The only gay swimmer I knew of was Greg Louganis and he was spoken of terribly behind the scenes because of his sexuality. So in that regard, it pushed me further back into the closet.”

In 2006, Tewksbury published a book, Inside Out: Straight Talk From A Gay Jock, where he writes of the infighting among organizers of the Olympic Games, as well as the International Gay Games, newly formed Out Games. He resigned from the International Olympic Committee over the lack of accountability, accusing the International Olympic Committee of rampant corruption. He was also part of a group of former Olympic athletes who pushed for the resignation of IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch. Only months after the scandal surrounding the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games broke, Tewksbury became known as an outspoken critic of the IOC and he demanded reforms to the system. Part of what Tewksbury stood for was integrity in sports, and he “had a complete crisis of faith in the leadership of amateur sport,” including the IOC, from which he resigned. With a number of others jocks, he founded Olympic Athletes Together Honorably (OATH), a group dedicated to reforming the IOC to eliminate cronyism and lack of real accountability.

Tewksbury:

“I gazed around the room slowly. The best swimmers from Russia, Cuba, the United States, Spain, Germany and France were in front of me. & I was different. I was the fag. And in that moment I owned my truth completely. I thought: ‘If these guys knew how hard it was for me to get here, they wouldn’t believe it. They have no bloody clue what I have been through. Or how strong I am.’ ”

Tewksbury is candid about embarrassing, humorous and unflattering things about his personal life, including his involvement in a serious 3-way relationship with a gay couple and his persistent pursuit of a professional male escort.

In December 2008 Tewksbury was invited by the government of France to speak at the United Nations in NYC on the day that a declaration was introduced that affirms International Gay Rights and seeking to decriminalize homosexuality around the globe. Tewksbury remains a spokesman for The International Day of Sport For Development And Peace which highlights the role sport can play in achieving sustainable progress and change. This year’s celebration is on Wednesday, April 6th.

In 2009 Tewksbury was inducted into Canada’s LGBT Human Rights Hall Of Fame in honor of his outstanding achievements and his efforts to end discrimination in the world of sports. He was named the Chef de Mission (a sort of team manager) of the 2012 Canadian Summer Olympic team.

Tewksbury lives in Ottawa with his longtime partner Benjamin Kiss, a former Swiss figure skater and now working as an actor.

#RealEstatePorn: You Really Won’t Believe What This Suburban House Looks Like on the Inside!

$

tumblr_inline_o19xyeq7bD1tchuoh_1280

Outside, this home is like any other in Newport, Oregon. Inside, it’s a Renaissance-era castle with hand-carved doors, stained-glass windows from old English churches. (It might seem more like a crazy ex-royal lives here…) Close, it is owned by the Right and Honorable Dowager Countess of Shannon, Almine Barton. She’s also a seer, spiritual master and Mystic-Visionary, according to her website… OK.

The home has undergone major additions since Barton moved in and her reasoning is that she didn’t want her tax bill to go up, which is nutty. But she claims she left the exterior unchanged and never “let the tax man through the door”. Barton bought the property in 1979 for very little and now she has put it on the market for $399,000, which seems a bargain, if it comes furnished and at the same time, she’s not likely to get that amount.

“It was an ordinary suburban house. The owner built it with just basic materials in a very, very sturdy way. But when I went in and saw the small little space, it just didn’t feel right to me.

One of the first things you might notice is that the house looks reasonably dark inside. Normally American houses aim for light. But there’s a reason for that. We have 18th-century stained glass in many of the windows, and just like in a cathedral, the darker interior makes these windows light up like gems throughout the day. As the light changes, the windows change.

It’s like living inside a Rembrandt painting.”

Before Barton had a stroke two years ago, she traveled around the world — sometimes twice in a year but now she’s looking to downsize to a smaller home that’s a little more manageable. But it’s hard to say goodbye to the house it took her 40 years to carefully design, curate and craft. Take a look. It goes on for days. Her buyers pool is small if you use the whole U.S. but in the small town of Newport, Oregon, it must be a handful, if that.

Solange Knowles and husband Alan Ferguson in NOLA before their wedding day

Solange, Beyoncé’s chic younger sister, was celebrating Mardi Gras in her adopted hometown of New Orleans by participating in the kick-off. Riding in the Krewe of Muses parade on a float, she tossed out plastic beads to revelers. In the process she accidentally threw her wedding ring into the crowd, along with the beads. The ring was designed by Solange and jewelry designer, Lorraine Schwartz. A reward has yet to be announced, but the super-unique ring can easily be spotted if someone tried to pretend it was theirs. As far as Mardi Gras throws, that’s a good as it gets, but hopefully whoever finds it will do the right thing.

Trans Model Ben Melzer Covers Men’s Health Magazine

Screen Shot 2016-02-08 at 2.32.07 PM

Men’s Health magazine has put a trans model on their cover… but it wasn’t Aydian Dowling (frownie face emoji). It was fitness model Ben Melzer, and the cover was for the Geman edition of the magazine, making him the first trans person to ever cover a men’s fitness magazine in Europe. He will appear on the cover of the April collectors edition, which hits newsstands in March.

From Towleroad:

Melzer’s cover came about after he entered German Men’s Health‘s cover-model contest.

Ben, who was born Yvonne, told us, “I started transitioning at the age of 23 and I always had a passion for fitness but because of the surgeries it was hard to achieve my goal.” He added, “After about 3 years everything was finally done and I started to concentrate on my training and diet.”

Melzer also recently spoke to Bild.de about his experience being raised as a girl. “I was never a typical girl. Pink was a no-go,” Melzer says in the video, pointing to a picture of him when younger, saying, “That’s why I’m crying [in] this picture. Because they made me wear pink.”

Of his life post-transition, Melzer says, “This is me and I’m very happy with the person I became. My inside and my outside finally fit and that’s why I’m not at all ashamed to talk about it.”

Melzer says he hopes he can use the publicity he’s receiving to give hope to other trans individuals.

“Many ask me: Why do you do this, why did you public and tell your story? But that’s easy to answer. When I was in that situation, I had nobody to talk to, nobody to ask all [these] questions. That’s what I want to do. I want to give the community a face, stand up and answer those questions for people. If there is one person out there I can help, I will succeed.”

Melzer told Towleroad, “I wanna show the world that we’re just normal guys. I wanna educate and give hope to others.”

Congratulations, Ben!

Frontiers Magazine Asks 7 Gay Porn Superstars the Hard-Hitting Questions

My old chum Stephan Horbelt, editor in chief of Frontiers magazine, recently asked Bennett Anthony, Boomer Banks, Landon Conrad, Brent Corrigan, Steve Cruz, Jimmy Durano, and Adam Ramzi – seven of the biggest gay porn stars in the biz – the questions everyone wants to know.

From Frontiers.com:

How did you come up with your on-screen name?

Cruz: I kept my first name and gave myself a new last name. I wanted something that felt like a real person you’d want to get to know. I had this idea I didn’t want to take myself too seriously or be pretentious, which, looking back, is pretty hilarious.

Anthony: Bennett had a nice little Southern ring to it, and Anthony is my middle name. Chatted it over with my agent and put it on lock.

Ramzi: My on-screen name is close to my actual first name, and Ramzi was one of the many nicknames I was given over the years. I also liked the somewhat ethnic ambiguity of it (vaguely Middle Eastern), and if you JLo’d my porn name, it’s my real first name. So it’s rooted in truth.

Conrad: I always liked the name Landon and wanted to change my real name when I was younger. So when I decided to do porn, I was like, “Here’s my chance!” And I just so happened to be watching MTV’s The Hills at the time. [Laughs]

Do you watch a lot of porn yourself?

Cruz: Nope. I’m planning, editing or filming porn every day. When you work behind the camera you see it all as the product. You recognize hot sex, but you’re constantly looking at lighting or maintaining the pace; you’re too in your head. I did get a little hard for, like, three minutes shooting the last scene I directed, though, so maybe there’s hope for me yet!

Anthony: I watch about three to four movies per week. Mostly bareback interracial muscle worship shit.

Ramzi: I love porn, and I always have.

Banks: I watch a lot a drag. Different strokes for different folks.

Conrad: Not a lot, but I do watch my fair share. That’s actually the reason I got into it. I admired and wanted to be like these hot guys. Porn sales aren’t legal in Utah, so I drove 90 miles to the Nevada border where there was a little porn store just so I could get my hands on some. Obviously this was before you could get it online!

Tune for Today: “Drive” by Pretty Sister

Love this! “Drive” – with its old-school ’90s R&B vibe – is Pretty Sister’s new release that embodies everything there is to love about Los Angeles and those sunny days driving up and down the Pacific Coast Highway with the top down blasting Tupac.

Pretty Sister was born on the northbound 405 freeway in a 1968 Buick LeSabre… “More Bounce to the Ounce” on the radio… old-school nostalgia in the smogged-up air. Defying boundaries of all kinds, the latest exploit from L.A.-bred singer/songwriter/producer Zak Waters now lives everywhere—from the back room of the party at 3 a.m. on a Friday night, to the front seat of a candy-pink low-rider on the hottest Saturday of summer. As the songs usher in the next wave of sex music, Pretty Sister slips way beyond lustful to manifest something shapeshifting and pleasure-bent, libertine and limitless.

Reaching 4.4+ Million plays on Spotify, #3 on “United Stated Viral 50”, #7 “World Viral Top 50”, #3 “Spotify’s Throwback Thursday”, #1 “Alternative R&B” and #1 “Viral Hits Playlist” with his cover of Ginuwine’s “Pony”. Pretty Sister’s new hit “Drive” is quickly getting attention and recognition from major music blogs and publications.

Condragulations! Listen to it below.

Yes, that could be the new slogan for Michigan. For those who violate the ban on anal sex in Michigan, they are now facing up to 15 years in prison. The Michigan Senate passed the controversial bill last week. While the bill does not specifically target the gay community, the legislation outlaws anal sex completely. Sponsored by Senator Dick Face –I mean RICK Jones, the bill is linked to the prevention of bestiality,

“A person who commits the abominable and detestable crime against nature with mankind or with any animal is guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment for no more than 15 years.”

It reads.

If the person is found to a ‘sexually delinquent person’ or an existing sex offender, they will face a life term in prison.”

Eleven US states join Michigan to include anti-sodomy legislation, even though the US Supreme Court ruled them unconstitutional in the 2003. Back to the future is NOT just a movie. (via Attitude)

Big Freedia Continues to SLAY! Read Interviews from Vogue and Fader

Screen Shot 2016-02-08 at 5.32.55 PM

It’s been quite a week for the Queen Diva of Bounce, Big Freedia – and it’s ONLY MONDAY! Over the weekend, Beyonce dropped a surprise single “Formation” that featured Freedia booming out “I did not come to play with you hoes” before letting out her iconic cackle.

Since then she’s been EVERYWHERE, on the tip of everyone’s tongue.

Check out two of her most fabulous interviews.

From Vogue:

Thanks for taking my call. I’m sure you’ve been pretty busy lately.
I am. I’m trying to get ready for Mardi Gras. It’s crazy.

How has it been ever since the video for “Formation” came out?
Oh, my God, it’s been bananas—just all the fans really responding, just knowing the sound of my voice. And you know, they’re just very proud of me of another accomplishment and that I keep opening doors and representing New Orleans.

What’s the craziest thing that has happened since?
Just some of the things that people have been coming up to me to say that the song has made them want to do. They want to pull all their edges out, they want to jump off buildings, they want to get into formation. People are seeing me at the parades and they are screaming and hollering.

How did you get involved with the song?
Well, [Beyoncé’s] publicist gave me a call and said that the Queen Bey wanted to talk to me and that she was about to give her my number, and after that she called. And we talked and she explained what she wanted me to do. She asked me to do a voice-over or go in and give her some ad lib. She explained to me what the song was about, her being a Southern girl. And it was just so exciting; I literally died in my own skin right then and there.

What was going through your mind while you were waiting for her call?
I wondered what was she going to say, what she wanted me to do, because her publicist didn’t really say. She just said she wanted to talk to me personally. And you know, we’ve been in contact before or whatever, but this was bigger than life.

Oh, yeah? When had you talked to each other before?
We hung out at her mom’s birthday party. That’s where you see the picture that I posted, that’s where it’s from.

How did you end up at Beyoncé’s mom’s birthday party?
Solange called me and personally invited me. And they all were there. And we all hung out, dance, ate, and drunk all night. We danced to a little bit of everything.

When she asked you to ad-lib, had you heard the song before? Or did you improvise without knowing what the song was going to say?
I hadn’t heard the song before. I kind of knew what the song was going to say, but I only had a very small snippet. It was very small. It was very particular about nothing being released or being out beforehand, so it was a very small piece that I was just being creative with.

Well, her chorus sings “Cause I slay, slay,” while your bit announces, “I came here to slay.” Was that just a happy coincidence?
Oh, no. I knew she was going to be slayin’. Definitely.

What do you think is so irresistible about bounce music?
It’s something that everybody can enjoy, from zero to 99. It’s the music that’s fun and it’s cultural and motivating to everybody. And people love the sound, people love the feeling. It’s a happy music, so kids love it, adults love it. Hopefully we can get on the whole world loving it.

What’s next for you?
I’m working on Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce season five. My book is out now, too, so I’m doing all types of promoting for that. And I’m getting ready to drop a new single on the 23rd of this month called “I Heard,” and working on my new album as well.

You have been called the ambassador of bounce music. Do you think that’s an accurate title?
Oh, definitely. I’ve been at the forefront of it for the last five years and working tremendously hard traveling all around the world, traveling nationally and internationally, making people aware of the sound and of the culture of New Orleans. And definitely, I deserve most of the credit for getting [bounce music] to where it is now.

What did you think of the choreography in the video?
Oh, I love it. I just love it.

What would you say is your signature move?
For myself? My signature move is my hands in the air and I’m shaking that ass.

If you could recommend one bounce song that everyone has to listen to, which one would it be?
“Ass Everywhere,” because it’s something that everyone can have fun with. It’s a very good song and it’s my song. It will pull asses of the masses together.

Can we expect to see you at the newly announced Formation World Tour?
Hopefully you can!

From FADER:

Speaking to The FADER on the phone Monday just before making an appearance on CNN, she said that she and Beyoncé kept in contact after meeting at a birthday party for Tina Knowles-Lawson in New Orleans last year. Below, Freedia explains how her appearance on “Formation” came together, and how she thinks bounce music will grow in 2016.

How did this all come about?

I got a call from Beyoncé’s publicist. They said that Bey wanted to talk to me, and then she explained exactly what she wanted me to do on the song. She gave me a little history of the song and I just lost it. I dropped dead in my own skin when she called. I was just literally at home losing it, not knowing exactly what I’m going to do when I got to the studio. I was just excited for the call and I was very gracious and appreciative that the queen called the other queen to come do something on her track. It was just a blessing and I was just overwhelmed and still am.

With your lines on the song, were you given direction from her at all?

Yes, definitely. That’s why she called me to give me directions and backstory. It was very interesting and the most exciting phone call I’ve ever gotten in a long time. I was very happy.

News outlets are picking up that Certain people feel that the song is anti-police. Do you have any thoughts on that? The video features a shot where she’s sitting on top of that New Orleans cop car that sinks.

That’s about creativity and coming up with a new style. She may not even knew about it until the director or whoever had put it together. There’s not much I can say on that.

Your show is still the highest-rated show on Fuse, and now this song has made bounce music even more visible. Does bounce being in mainstream pop culture change the music at all?

Oh yeah, definitely. I think that it definitely will change it to a certain extent. I also would have those songs that will stay original to the roots, the core of bounce music. Just like the new song that came out with Missy Elliot is a New Orleans-feel song, a bounce-inspired song. The bigger artists are definitely looking and paying attention to the culture and the style of bounce music.

Your line in the song references corn bread and collard greens. What are the best places for those two things in New Orleans?

You would have to taste Big Freedia’s edition of them. Definitely.

And be sure to check out other interviews with the Queen Diva in Forbes and Fuse

I’d never heard of Amanda Chantal Bacon before until this gorgeous angel showed me the way. Amanda Chantal Bacon is the owner founder of Moon Juice a Los Angeles juice shop for people who read Goop. She was asked by Elle.com about her daily food intake, and some estimate the price of the food she listed exceeded most people’s monthly food allowance. But forget about that pretentious boob. Jarrett Sleeper is the TRUE star of this post. He did a parody video of Amanda Chantal Bacon’s ridiculously expensive food diary that is quickly going viral, but just look how damn cute he is!!! Those eyes!!! And the beard!!! I’m in love. Watch the video, and Jarrett, if you’re out there and you see this, REACH OUT! xoxo

Critics everywhere have been swooning over The Witch since it scared the crap out of everyone at Sundance last year. But if that isn’t enough of an endorsement for you, The Satanic Temple has just given the movie an official sanction, declaring it as a “transformative Satanic experience.”

From IndieWire:

In an official statement made by The Satanic Temple, the group says it “is confident [the film] will signal the call-to-arms for a Satanic uprising against the tyrannical vestiges of bigoted superstitions, and will harken a new era of liberation and unfettered inquiry.”

Added The Satanic Temple’s National Spokesperson Jex Blackmore, “We are empowered by the narrative of ‘The Witch’: a story of pathological pride, old-world religious paradigms, and an outsider who grabs persecution by the horns.” She goes on to praise the film’s plot, which “departs from the victim” narrative of witchcraft and stands as a “declaration of feminine independence.”

To celebrate, the Templet will be launching premiere screenings of The Witch beginning in New York City on February 10 that will include interactive performances and ritualized pronouncements of a “new Satanic era.” Screenings will follow in Los Angeles (February 12), Austin (February 16) and Detroit (to be determined).

Watch the trailers again (they’re AMAZING, I promise)

Written and directed by Robert Eggers, who won the Best Director Prize at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. It opens Feb 19th.

From IMDB:

The New York Times Drags Gaga for Not Being Beyoncé

After what was, by all accounts, a TRIUMPH for Lady Gaga Sunday afternoon – her pitch-perfect rendition of “The National Anthem” SLAYED – The New York Times oddly decided it was the PERFECT TIME to do a hatchet job on her. In an article entitled “Beyoncé, the Past Is Calling, and It’s Lady Gaga,” Times writer Wesley Morris said, in effect, that while Beyoncé and Gagaloo may have been pop equals six years ago when they made “Telephone,” that was a long time ago. The times have changed. Now

Beyoncé now has an astronomical lock on the world’s attention. We orbit her. All she did on Saturday was release a song and a video — “Formation” — and the planet seemed to stop.

True enough. Beyoncé WAS peerless Sunday afternoon, as Morris claimed. She was dressed like Michael Jackson. She moved like Tina Turner. She was as political as Nina Simone. “You were encouraged to think that her equals aren’t with her in the present. They’re communing with her from the past.”

Meanwhile, Lady Gaga seems content to be past.

Wait, what? That seems uncalled for. But there’s more. He’s just getting started on his epic takedown. Here’s where things get REALLY nasty.

Gaga’s work now is like a long-term art project that’s put 50 years on her persona, and at 29, she’s five years younger than Beyoncé. She’s been cooing with Tony Bennett on their “Cheek to Cheek” tour; she’s wearing stuff that you’d find on Fanny Brice. Her Gucci pantsuit could have been from the Céline Dion collection or from Liza Minelli’s closet. So, too, could the strength of her singing and chest thwaps.

She’s given herself a coating of the geriatric, of respectability, of Vegas.

At last year’s Academy Awards, Gaga near-perfectly performed a medley from “The Sound of Music,” and her earnestness was touching even as you had no idea why this was happening — to us, to her. She cleans up awkwardly. If this is “art-pop,” as Gaga’s last album was called — trying out nostalgia for eras in which she never lived, tearfully accepting a Golden Globe for her work on “American Horror Story: Hotel,” playing a version of the winking grotesque creature she started as — it seems designed to keep her out of the mainstream fray: away from Adele and Rihanna and her former collaborator Beyoncé. Lady Gaga has aged herself past what’s trending. She’s willfully become the living embodiment of what’s trended.

Ouch. “Geriatric?” “Vegas”? “Celine Dion pantsuits”? “A winking grotesque creature”? “The living embodiment of what’s trended”?

That was WAY HARSH, Wesley.

What do you think? Just because Beyoncé slays, does that mean that Gaga doesn’t? Isn’t that a false equivilancy? Or a false dichotomy? (I’m forgetting my fallacies). My point, though: Why is it one or the other? Why can’t two people be fabulous at the same time?
