Nipples! We got nipples! And not just ANY nipples: MEN’S Nipples! JAPANESE Men’s nipples! A whole magazine devoted to them! Because men’s nipples don’t get nearly the love they deserve!

The magazine is a fan-made dojinshi, which is a Japanese term for self-published magazines, novels, or manga. Its title literally translates to “Everyone Loves a Man Nipple: Photobook.” And it stays true to its name – the cover carries a close-up shot of a male nipple, along with the names of all the nipple-models used in the issue. The inside is filled with nipple-shots too, clicked from every angle imaginable.

The magazine was created by a certain Mr. Minazuki, who says he came up with the idea after a “mipple” Twitter post of his went viral. He then found 19 guys and asked them to be his nipple models and voila – the birth of GENIUS.

The magazine was distributed to the people who attended the first day of the most recent Comiket (Tokyo’s comic market). But if you’re interested, it still is available for purchase online at Melonbooks. Commenters have been mostly positive: “Wow, male nipples are so much more powerful than I ever imagined!” said one. “Little ones, big ones, they’re all just as different as the people whose chests they reside on.”

Just in case you needed more of a reason to celebrate other than today just being Friday. Britney, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, and Missy Elliott opened the 2003 Video Music Awards at Radio City in New York city and CHANGED THE WORLD! First Britney came out in wedding dress à la Madonna at the 1984 VMAs doing a rendition of “Like a Virgin” atop a giant wedding cake. After that, Christina came out in a similar get-up. Then Madonna popped out of the top of the wedding cake, the song switched to her most recent single at the time, “Hollywood”, and she pranced down the stairs and kissed Britney. Unfortunately most of us didn’t even realize she leaned over and kissed Christina after that because we were all in shock over what just happened! AND because the camera swiftly switched to Justin Timberlake, Britney’s ex, who had attended the same award show with her just two years before in head-to-toe denim. Why am I explaining this like you don’t know? Just relive the whole thing for yourself. Don’t you feel old?

Ellen Page spoke to Time magazine about her role in the upcoming movie Freeheld, being an LGBT advocate, and why you should NEVER call her brave.

“When people are called brave in regards to playing LGBTQ people, that’s borderline offensive,” she said. “I’m never going to be considered brave for playing a straight person, and nor should I be.” PREACH, HONEY.

In fact, she doesn’t think actors should be called brave, period. “Maybe this is a bad thing to say, but I have a hard time when people call actors brave. I don’t really get that, because our job is to read something on a page.”

RIGHT? RIGHT? It’s called ACTING. People do it every day! By the same token, let’s stop commending gay actors for being convincing when the play it straight (*cough. NPH. cough*).

Unfortunately, we need to brace ourselves for a whole new round of this “offensive” practice because this fall we have Eddie Redmayne playing transgender pioneer Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl, Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara falling in love in Carol, James Franco in I Am Michael, and then of course there’s Stonewall…. I feel like we’re going to be subjected to MONTHS of hearing how brave they all were…. And nominating them for taking on such daring projects…. GROAN.

Anyway, Ellen went on to talk about needing diversity in films –

“That’s obviously the huge issue, particularly for the LGBT community, but any minority. Native American and Native Canadian people: Where are these stories? I want to see these stories! And I’m hoping the shift is going to come really quick now. It’s evident from what people are watching on television that people want diversity. They want it. Whether they consciously know it or not, I’m not sure, but look at Orange is the New Black. You’re seeing actors that, if that show didn’t exist, we might not have ever seen—that are extraordinary. It makes me excited because the whole reason to go to a film is to disappear into another world, and to have your humanity connect with someone else’s, who you might not ever meet in your life! To be moved and have more compassion, that’s the wonderful thing all art can do, and particularly film! I want to see gay stories, of course, because I’m gay, and I want to connect to a reflection of my life on film. But I also want to see what it’s like to be a young Native person, African-American, African-Canadian. Hopefully that will keep changing.”

Carpenter on L with George Merrill

August 29, 1844– Edward Carpenter:

“I might have simply settled down into an armchair literary life. I really don’t know exactly why I didn’t.”

Gay Rights activist, socialist, feminist, pacifist, vegetarian, nudist, mystic, poet, essayist, sandal wearer… an apt description for the short biography to accompany my byline? Wrong. I would never wear sandals.

Challenging capitalism & the values of modern western civilization, Edward Carpenter had an important impact on the cultural & political landscape of the late 19th & early 20th centuries. Carpenter enjoyed lasting friendships with some of the greatest characters of his era: Walt Whitman, Robert Graves, Mahatma Gandhi, Oscar Wilde, E.M. Forster, Isadora Duncan & Emma Goldman. After reading Whitman’s Leaves Of Grass, Carpenter blissfully visualized a world of brotherly love that would do away with class systems & bring true freedom & democracy.

Carpenter graduated from Cambridge & then held a position there once filled by Leslie Stephen, the father of writer Virginia Woolf. He gave public lectures for the working class. He didn’t like to save his best ideas for the ruling elite. In 1891, after meeting by chance on a train, he & George Merrill, an uneducated worker, became lovers. In 1898, when Carpenter was 54 years old & Merrill was just 32 years old, they set up house together, unheard of in England which was profoundly anti-gay in sentiment after the Oscar Wilde trials.

They lived openly as a couple for 30 years, until Merrill’s passing, & their love affair, crossing the classes, was the direct inspiration for their friend E.M. Forster’s novel Maurice (1913, published in 1971) as well as D.H. Lawrence’s straight version of the story Lady Chatterley’s Lover (1921).

American Gay Rights pioneer Harry Hay credited Carpenter’s writings for galvanizing him to start the first Gay Rights organization, The Mattachine Society, in LA in 1950.

Carpenter felt strongly that people tend to settle down into a single deep permanent union, but along the way they should be experiencing a variety of relationships & sexual adventures. He warned that the ideal of exclusive attachment could easily lapse into stagnant 2-way selfishness. He saw a society with love & devotion between individuals without the quality of their love being defined by exclusiveness based on jealousy, a sense of the other person being private property, or social opinions & legal unions. He believed that those sorts of relationships suffocate love. Carpenter considered sex as a good thing & not a sign or cause of human frailty & sinfulness. All Carpenter’s opinions were considered revolutionary in his era, just as they are today.

Merrill left this incarnation suddenly & unexpectedly in January 1928. In May 1928, Carpenter suffered a stroke that left him mostly helpless. He lived another 13 months before he left this world on a perfect summer afternoon, June 28, 1929, exactly 40 years before the Stonewall Riots.

In 1910 Carpenter wrote:

“I should like these few words to be read over the grave when my body is placed in the earth; for though it is possible I may be present & conscious of what is going on, I shall not be able to communicate. Do not think too much of the dead husk of your friend, or mourn too much over it, but send your thoughts out towards the real soul or self which has escaped to reach it. For so, surely you will cast a light of gladness upon his onward journey, & contribute your part towards the building of that kingdom of love which links our earth to heaven.”

In 1967, gay Beat poet Allen Ginsburg interviewed Gavin Arthur (grandson of President Chester A. Arthur), a world traveler, adventurer, & later a San Francisco based astrologer, about his experience as a young man of 23 years old, visiting England & having sex with the 80 year old Carpenter. Carpenter told Arthur of his own sexual experience, as a 33 year old man, with the 58 year old Walt Whitman. When the young Arthur asked how Whitman ranked as a lover, Carpenter replied: “I will show you.” The account of their night together is very sweet.

Although Carpenter made no secret of his long relationship with Merrill, he remained discreet & the couple lived in isolation in the beautiful English countryside. His controversial books avoided prosecution despite having been investigated by the morals police many times. Good karma was on Carpenter’s side.

Agree or not, according to Paper thinks you should know these five queens. (It’s not insignificant that three of the five are Drag Race Alumni);

Way before Divine‘s explosive Pink Flamingos performance or RuPaul‘s meteoric rise. It’s only fitting that the town, despite its size, remains one of the most significant drag communities around with both resident performers and reality superstars paying tribute to the Ptown’s vibrant scene. Below, Paper highlights five such queens you need to know. (…but probably already do)

1. Dina Martina – Ptown’s reigning resident Queen, Dina Martina has been performing for over 10 years at the Crown and Anchor and has a loyal and loving fan base. With her signature oversize lips, Martina hits that special spot between hysterical and horrifying — not unlike a drag version of Mimi from the Drew Carey Show. Watch and you’ll see.

2. BenDeLaCreme – Best known for her appearance in Season 6 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, her show Terminally Delightful is running through August at the Crown and Anchor. Despite winning the Miss Congeniality title on Drag Race, she was booted off earlier than many would have hoped — but at least the experience has provided fodder for her show.

3. Jinkx Monsoon – The season 5 winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race is performing in two shows at The Art House: a one-woman act called The Inevitable Concert, and Return to Grey Gardens co-starring Peaches Christ. Jinkx is a singer and performer through and through, prior to the her work on Drag Race she starred in a Portland=based production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

4. Varla Jean Merman – With perhaps the most diverse credits among the group, including roles on Ugly Betty, Project Runway, and All My Children, Varla Jean is legendary in Ptown and is also doing double duty as both a performer in Designing Women Meets the Golden Girls and her own show, Varla Jean Merman’s Big Black Hole.

5. Bianca Del Rio – The bitingly funny winner of season 6 of RuPaul’s Drag Race is performing her acclaimed show, Rolodex of Hate, at the Art House from Aug. 10th through Sept. 4th. Bianca was a standout on the show for her wit and insultability, both of which will be in full force during her show. The run in Provincetown is also part of a nationwide tour that started back in January and ends in Portland in September.

Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans ten years ago this month and Brad Pitt is celebrating. He’s been working to rebuild destroyed houses in the hard-hit Lower Ninth Ward since the hurricane left its path of destruction. He told the New Orleans Times-Picayune;

“We went into it incredibly naïve, just thinking ‘we can build homes – how hard is that?'”

A LOT harder than he thought, it turns out. But that didn’t stop him, his foundation Make It Right, or the residents from plugging along. Now, 109 colorful, well-built, ecofriendly homes dot the area that a decade ago was reduced to rubble, mud and debris and wrecked lives. As a part-time NOLA resident and architecture buff, Pitt wanted his foundation to build homes that not only suited the residents’ needs, but were well-designed and not only cheap(er) to make, but to live in.

“I get this well of pride when I see this little oasis of color and the solar panels. I drive into the neighborhood and I see people on their porch, and I ask them how is their house treating them? And they say, ‘Good.’ And I say what’s your utility bill? And they’ll throw something out like, ’24 bucks’ or something, and I feel fantastic.”

Some of the world’s best architects, including Shigeru Ban, Thom Mayne, and even Frank Gehry, designed some of the futuristic homes at Pitt’s urging. The area has now become one of New Orleans’ tourist attractions but it wasn’t easy getting to this point. Pitt says that he had no concept of the bureaucratic snags he would have to hurdle. But he was determined to make the homes aesthetically pleasing too and allow the residents to give their input. THEY were the ones who would be living there.

“The inhabitants, the families are the ones who designed the neighborhood. They had choices in front of them. They picked the houses to suit their needs. They picked the colors.

You do not have to build low-income housing with the cheapest materials that keep families in a poverty trap. Whether that be running up high utility bills or with toxic materials that run up your doctor bills. It doesn’t have to be that way.”

It’s nice to hear the good news once in a while, isn’t it?

Ashley Madison CEO Noel Biderman stepped down this week in the wake of the hacked leak that exposed information on everyone from Josh Duggar, to family evangelist Sam Rader and on and on. But the biggest scandal of all seems to be there were virtually NO WOMEN on AshleyMadison.com. Gizmodo published a survey on the women of the site that suggests very few of the female accounts on the site were held by real women.

Nearly all of the accounts attributed to women on the site were likely fake accounts run by employees of the company, and if there were really women cruising the site, they rarely ever opened their inboxes. Out of 5.5 million female accounts, roughly zero percent had ever shown any kind of activity at all after the day they were created.

The men’s accounts tell a story of lively engagement with the site, with over 20 million men hopefully looking at their inboxes, and over 10 million of them initiating chats. The women’s accounts show so little activity that they might as well not be there. According to Gizmodo;

Ashley Madison employees did a pretty decent job making their millions of women’s accounts look alive. They left the data in these inactive accounts visible to men, showing nicknames, pictures, sexy comments. But when it came to data that was only visible on to company admins, they got sloppy. The women’s personal email addresses and IP addresses showed marked signs of fakery. And as for the women’s user activity, the fundamental sign of life online? Ashley Madison employees didn’t even bother faking that at all.

The bottom line, the over 31 million men on the site looking to have affairs weren’t even close because the women barely existed at all. THAT’S big-time cheating the cheaters!

Oliver Sacks, the revered neurologist and writer, died of cancer in New York City today. He was 82. In an essay in The New York Times an essay by Sacks in February revealing that an earlier melanoma in his eye had spread to his liver. The London-born academic, whose book Awakenings inspired the film of the same name, wrote:

“A month ago, I felt that I was in good health, even robust health. At 81, I still swim a mile a day. But my luck has run out – a few weeks ago I learned that I have multiple metastases in the liver.”

Awakenings was based on his work with patients treated with a drug that woke them up after years in a catatonic state. The 1990 film version, starring Robert De Niro and Robin Williams, was nominated for three Oscars, including best picture.

As tributes are being paid, Michiko Kakutani, the New York Times writer, praised him;

“[He] was a polymath and an ardent humanist, and whether he was writing about his patients, or his love of chemistry or the power of music, he leapfrogged among disciplines, shedding light on the strange and wonderful interconnectedness of life – the connections between science and art, physiology and psychology, the beauty and economy of the natural world and the magic of the human imagination.”

Lisa Appignanesi wrote in The Guardian of Sacks’s ability to transform his subjects into grand characters.

“For all their lacks and losses, or what the medics call ‘deficits’, Sacks’s subjects have a capacious 19th-century humanity. No mere objects of hasty clinical notes, or articles in professional journals, his “patients” are transformed by his interest, sympathetic gaze and ability to convey optimism in tragedy into grand characters who can transcend their conditions. They emerge as the very types of our neuroscientific age.”

In his memoir, Uncle Tungsten, he wrote about his early boyhood. He was sent away from London during the wartime bombing and bullied at boarding school. Growing up, he witnessed his schizophrenic brother’s treatment with drugs and his torment. His also memoirs reveal that his mother said when she learned of his homosexuality:

“I wish you had never been born.”

He writes of a few love affairs, his road trips and being obsessed with bodybuilding. Sacks had nearly 1,000 journals and more letters and clinical notes upon which to draw for his autobiography.

After he revealed that he had terminal cancer, Sacks quoted one of his favourite philosophers, David Hume. When he discovered was terminally ill at 65, Hume wrote:

“I now reckon upon a speedy dissolution. I have suffered very little pain from my disorder; and what is more strange, have, notwithstanding the great decline of my person, never suffered a moment’s abatement of my spirits. I possess the same ardour as ever in study, and the same gaiety in company.

I am … a man of mild dispositions, of command of temper, of an open, social, and cheerful humour, capable of attachment, but little susceptible of enmity, and of great moderation in all my passions.”

If there’s a “good way” to go, this must be it.

Before architects A.Quincy Jones and Whitney Smith went to work on Brentwood’s renowned Modern architecture community Crestwood Hills, they built this aptly named Pilot House in Mt. Washington to show

“how well-designed homes could be built on steep hillside lots.”

Even though it looks fifties and is quintessentially mid-century modern, it was built in 1948 and it was designated a city monument in 2002. The house stretches across its corner lot and has incredible views of the surrounding hills out of its many angled windows. There are multiple patios and a modest pool by LA standards. By Hollywood standards, the place is really more guesthouse-sized, but the two-bedroom, 1,524-square-foot house would be a perfect LA pied-à-terre for moi. It’s on the market $1.125 million. Vogue‘s September Issue is always a whopper. This year is no exception. One story is SO SO perfect and so perfectly Vogue, I thought I’d share it here. Supermodel Cindy Crawford and her model good-looks entrepeneur husband, Rande (with an e) Gerber, who are business partners and best friends with the other perfect Hollywood couple, Amal and George Clooney in Casamigos Tequila. This story is like a Ralph Lauren ad, if he was selling perfect people. (Come to find out, Alfredo Paredes, a Ralph Lauren executive and good friend, helped with the decorating of the place.)

Thirteen years ago when friends invited them for a week to this spot in Ontario, they fell in love with it. The live in Malibu the rest of the year (of course) but they are “lake people”, they say. Rande spent his summers at camp in New Hampshire, while Cindy’s family used to rent a cabin in Minnesota, where she’s from.

Over the years, the couple, who have now designed seven houses together, from the Upper East Side to Cabo San Lucas, think about their living spaces differently.

“Rande pictures every place filled with people socializing and I’m always saying, ‘But what about when no one is here? Then where are we sitting?’ ”

Cindy turns 50 next year (STFU!) and if time is on her mind, at the lake, it slows to a standstill. She never puts on a watch, and there are no clocks anywhere in the house.

“The point here is to slow everything down. Life moves quickly, but it will wait.”

See the perfect couple, with their perfect kids and their perfect summer getaway. It’s enough to make you sick – if they didn’t seem like the nicest people too.

Miley with RPDR’s Season 7 finalists

Full Disclosure: Yes, I do write for The Wow Report, but I really have no inside knowledge about what RuPaul’s Drag Race queens do. Swear. But if you pay attention to the internet buzz and rumors, SOMETHING is up with Miley Cyrus and the VMAs. Miley is of course hosting tonight and Inquisitor is reporting juicy details about it;

For weeks now among Drag Race’s devoted fan base, concentrated most strongly at the show’s subreddit. As it’s also rumored that the show’s All Stars 2 season is currently being filmed, many wondered how some of the show’s hottest competitors could miss out on a such a huge press event like the VMAs. After several of the rumored queens returned to social media suddenly, it seemed certain that Cyrus would be pulling from RuPaul’s stock of girls.

Through chats on Periscope and various probing on the queens’ social media accounts, Miley pulling out the cast of gender-bending entertainers is practically set in stone. Drag Race’s presence at the 2015 VMAs has also been confirmed by Hollywood Life, where an anonymous source revealed a little of what viewers should be expecting to see during Miley’s final number on Sunday.

“During her performance she will have 30 drag queens. Balloons and streamers will also drop… Miley is dead set on providing a MTV VMAs that people won’t stop talking about. She’ll be outrageous, funny and really push the envelope as long as it shocks people.”

Other rumors have also been circulating about Drag Race Season 7 winner Violet Chachki coming along as Cyrus’ date, though it’s still uncertain if any queen will walk the red carpet.

This all sounds exciting, huh? But is it true? I guess we’ll find out together in a dozen hours or so. Did you guys just see the EPIC closing of the MTV Video Music Awards with Miley Cyrus and TONS of your FAVORITE #QUEENS from RuPaul’s Drag Race?! The performance was announced by the stars of Miley’s #InstaPride campaign, including Gigi Gorgeous and Brendan Jordan, and the performance saw Miley Cyrus marching out with a SLEW of RuPaul’s Drag Race queens.

I spotted Delta Work, Courtney Act, Tammie Brown, Carmen Carrera, Shangela, Laganja Estranja (doing a death drop!), Alyssa Edwards, Victoria “Porkchop” Parker, Willam, Pearl, Violet Chachki, and Alexis Mateo, but there were SO many more! (I’ll try to update the post as I  figure them out!) THEN, Miley Cyrus announced she has a BRAND-NEW album AVAILABLE NOW! FOR FREE! I think they broke the internet! CONDRAGULATIONS, GIRLS!
