An episode of the inspiring WOW docuseries airs on the Discover Health & Fitness channel on April 13 at 10PM (and again at 1AM). You can watch episodes on the DHF website.

World of Wonder’s six-part series Sex Change Hospital, which first aired in the UK, is exactly what the title would lead you to believe. Based in Trinidad, Colorado, the sex change capital of the world, each one hour episode is a self-contained journey following 2 people as they take the final step in their transition from one gender to another. In this episode: Emeri is a 20-year-old male-to-female college student who would like to have her surgery complete before the semester begins at school. And Donna, formerly Donald, is a truck driver who comes to the hospital for male-to-female genital reassignment surgery.

Here’s an excerpt from David Hinckley’s review in the New York Daily News:

“For some, the high hurdles will come in two areas of this documentary-style report: first, the whole idea of transgendering, and second, some fairly graphic details about what’s removed and what’s added for patients going in either direction. On the other hand, the human part of the story – the things that patients and the people in their lives go through – provides familiar dramas about conflict, doubt and reconciliation. Often touching, those stories can resonate with everyone.”

… and it looks AMAZING. The McCann Advertising Agency commissioned photographer Nick Meek to promote Sony’s new 4K TV with this incredible artistic statement. Apparently, it took the creative team and the inhabitants of an entire village in Costa Rica over two weeks to pluck all the petals of the brightest, most vibrant flowers they could find. Some on YouTube are calling it “an incredible waste of resources, time, and money” and saying things like:  ”Really sad that an campaign causes so much environmental damage just for an ad when there’s already so much beauty in the world.” I suppose, but this is JUST MAGNIFICENT. I mean, the flowers were going to die eventually ANYWAY. And the petals are all biodegradable, so what’s the problem? I’d love my village (Larchmont, btw) to be covered in flowers. (via WeTheUrban)

As flowers erupt majestically from a volcano and sweep through Costa Rica’s vibrant landscape, the ad conveys the emotional power of seeing Ultra HD for the first time and experiencing the deeper, more natural tones of the unique TRILUMINOS Display showing more of the colour spectrum.

Everything was shot in 4K with Sony’s revolutionary F55 and F65 cameras, as used on movies Oblivion and After Earth.

Miley’s very, very selective about her magazine covers, you know, and firmly declined Seventeen‘s offer to be their May cover girl, saying she didn’t want to be any part of it. But the tenacious editors weren’t going to let a little thing like Miley’s wishes stand in the way of their DREAM COVER, so they went ahead and put her on anyway!

The teen magazine made her their cover girl without her consent and used stock photos and write arounds that were not approved by the singer or her team.

“Seventeen readers love Miley Cyrus, and we cover her every chance we get,” said a Seventeen spokesperson. “She ranked high on the March issue’s Girl Power List. Our readers asked for more, so we responded as quickly as possible. Miley’s currently on tour promoting ‘Bangerz,’ so what better time than now to celebrate her and give our readers what they want.”

According to Stylite: “Even more importantly, Cyrus sells. Seventeen’s newsstand sales have declined 20 percent, and according to WWD, her March 2013 cover of Cosmopolitan sold 1.1 million copies on the newsstand.”

I asked our resident Miley superfan, Adam Asea, his opinion: “Although genius, Seventeen magazine should have respected Miley’s wishes. At the end of the day it just makes them look low budg.”
