#HypocriteOTD: Dennis Hastert Rose To Power on the Wings of (Gay) Sex Abuse

Hastert

Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert was indicted last week;

“on charges that he structured bank withdrawals to avoid federal reporting requirements and later lied about it to the FBI.”

Hastert apparently paid over $1.7 million to a high school student to conceal sexual misconduct. This of course makes one recall the scandal with former Florida Congressman Mark Foley (R), who was forced to resign in 2006 after news came to light that he had engaged in “inappropriate courting” of young men who worked as pages.

This latest scandal explains one reason Hastert would drag his feet on holding Foley accountable: Hastert had his own dark secret involving both sexual misconduct and his closeted homosexuality. Ironic and even more MAJORLY hypocritical, considering Haster’s own crusade against Bill Clinton’s affair against Monica Lewisky, and his vote for impeachment. Hastert has also promoted himself as a crusader against sexual abuse of children.

Which he why he’s The Wow Report’s Hypocrite of the Day, and serious nominee for Hypocrite of the Month… but, hey it’s just the 1st of June, so there time for aspiring hypocrites to et busy. (via Raw Story)

Stevie Phillips has waited over 45 years after Judy Garland‘s death to write a memoir filled with shocking revelations about the troubled star. Judy’s one-time agent held little back. In Judy & Liza & Robert & Freddie & David & Sue are that Garland got off by having lesbian sex during limo rides to her concerts. Phillips says that during one ride, Judy had her hand on her agent’s knee;

“…her hand was now fully in my crotch and she was staring straight ahead. Then she turn and smiled. In an instant my body turned rigid and I stopped breathing while every possible weak-kneed simpering response like, ‘I don’t thing so.’ “‘Please! Not my thing.’ ‘I wish you wouldn’t” -collided in my head.

I mustered all the courage I had and turned in her direction. Take another breath and say something, I commanded myself. Nothing would come out.”

She continued to represent Judy for four more years, saying she was…

“a demented, demanding, supremely talented drug addict.”

‘I will show you a woman whose mind was destroyed by prescription drugs and alcohol.”

Phillips details an incident at The Plaza in New York where Garland set her nightgown on fire;

“Every possible terror collides in me at once as I grab the blankets and smother the flame about to consume the pale-blue nylon gown.

After the fire was out, Garland examined a burn on her leg and said ‘I better wear tights.'”

Between acts of one of her concerts the Boston Garden that same year, Phillips writes that Garland suddenly slit her left wrist and the surging blood spewed all over Phillips’ clothes…

“My hands. My hair. I stood there horrified. This was her normal. This is who she was.”

A doctor came in, Garland was bandaged up, bracelets were bought to cover the bandages. Phillips writes that the incidents were about manipulation and control.

“No one wanted to institutionalize her because they were busy exploiting her.”

After she left Garland, Phillips became an agent at Creative Management Associates and guess who her first client was? Liza Minnelli. More dirt there too. I might have to read this book now! It’s available on Amazon tomorrow. (via The Daily Mail)

3248100078_1_5_Q5HtY1hW Mika just released his new song, Good Guys, about his apparent frustrations with guys, especially gay ones, from his fourth studio album No Place In Heaven. He sings;

“Where have all the gay guys gone?”

And in the chorus, Mika he quotes Oscar Wilde;

“If we are all in the gutter, it doesn’t change who we are/cause some of us in the gutter are looking up at the stars.”

In one verse, he credits some of the most inspirational gay figures of the 20th century, from W.H. Auden, James Dean, Jean Cocteau, Wilfred Owen… see which others you can pick out. It’s catchy too. Watch.

16 years years after, Reese Witherspoon, Selma Blair and Sarah Michelle Gellar got together in L.A. for a girl’s night out to see the (unauthorised) musical parody of their film Cruel Intentions. Selma and Sarah decided to recreate their famous on-screen kiss (which they won an MTV Movie Award for, btw) an Instagram snap. Referring to how her character taught Selma’s naive Cecile how to French kiss;

“My lessons paid off!!”

Selma posted the snapshot on her Instagram too, along with the words:

“Back with my girl @sarahmgellar Still my favorite kiss. #bittersweetsymphony.”

The pair seemed more than happy to oblige their fans and began making out on the red carpet at Rockwell Table & Stage, as third wheel Reese looked on.

Penny Dreadful’s Dorian Gray, played by Reeve Carney and trans-hooker, Angelique convincingly
portrayed by Jonny Beauchamp

Penny Dreadful‘s transgender surprise wasn’t really that shocking to me. I knew that Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney) was in for something extra when he met lady-for-hire Angelique (Jonny Beauchamp) When he shows up at Angelique’s brothel for a Victorian-era paid booty call, the “lady” opens up her dressing gown to show off a lithe body with a penis attached. Dorian seemed pretty okay with that! This got me to thinking about Victorian drag…

So, you thought Lady Bunny‘s drag was old? – here’s a nice collection of historical “drag” dating back to the 19th century and then onwards. “Drag” is in quotes is because it’s not clear if these folks are transgender, cross-dressers, dressed up as women for theatrical purposes or just for the “thrill of it” as Frankenfurter says in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Anyway, they’re all pretty sickeningly gorgeous. Doesn’t that last shot look like it could be Max‘s great great grandmother?

We’ve been in love with Arca for some time now. The Venezuelan producer (now living in London) made a major splash recently by producing six songs on Bjork’s Current album, and four songs on Kanye West’s Yeezus…He’s basically a genius…and sexy as f*ck! This morning he woke up to his Instagram account being deleted, apparently because of a racy illustration by his long-time friend and collaborator artist Jesse Kanda (She’s also friends with FKA Twigs) for his new single Vanity

ginger minj ooh lala lala

Pageant queen Ginger Minj is a big girl with HUGE talents. On this season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Ginger proved to be a triple threat..singing, dancing, and turning out slapstick comedy. In her first single Ooh Lala Lala, she stays true to herself in a rockabilly/big band tune that will have you screaming in the streets.

“Go big or go home, right?!”, says Ginger. “It was important to me that whatever music I released was a true representation of who I am as an entertainer. I could have dropped a dance song like the other girls, but I don’t think I would have been proud of it because it wouldn’t have spoken to who I am. ‘Ooh Lala Lala’ is a bit of a different sound just like I’m a different sort of queen.”

Part pin-up girl, part dominatrix, clearly Violet Chachki has a sickening side! A fan favorite on this season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Violet stole the show when she revealed her super tiny, corseted waist (clearly she’s been waist-training since she was an infant). In her first video for single Bettie, from forthcoming album Gagged, Chachki draws inspiration from her time working with a mistress in a dungeon.

“I worked for a mistress,” says Violet. “She was the dominant type, hired to humiliate subservient men. She’d have me dress the men in drag and parade them in front of her friends. I like the fetish world because the line between right and wrong is blurred in a controlled, safe way. Also, I love the fashion!”

Watch Violet Chachki get spanked in the vid below…and don’t miss a fab cameo by Pearl Liaison! Oh…btw…she’s got a naughty toy site too! Get into it HERE.

It’s Birthday, Bitch

#BornThisDay: Actor, Zachary Quinto

Quinto

June 2, 1977- As a gay man of a certain age, coming out of closet was a major, if not the defining, event of your life. So, I especially appreciate the very casual manner in which young gay celebs these days break the news by casually mentioning it in paragraph 7 of a magazine profile. Thank you, Ellen Page, Neil Patrick Harris & Matt Bomer. That is real progress. It’s the 21st century, Kevin Spacey!

Zachary Quinto credits his role in the 2012 Broadway production of Larry Kramer’s Angels In America, in which he played a gay man who leaves his AIDS-afflicted boyfriend, for helping to come out of closet & put him further in touch with the struggles faced by gay Americans.

As a gay man I look at the gay kids committing suicide from being bullied & there’s a hopelessness that surrounds it, but as a human being I look at it & say ‘Why? Where’s this disparity coming from, & why can’t we as a culture & society dig deeper to examine that?’ We’re terrified of facing ourselves. When I found out that young Jamey Rodemeyer killed himself, I felt deeply troubled. But when I found out that Rodemeyer had made an ‘It Gets Better’ video only months before taking his own life, I felt indescribable despair.”

“In light of Jamey’s death, it became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality. Our society needs to recognize the unstoppable momentum toward unequivocal civil equality for every gay lesbian bisexual & transgendered citizen of this country.”

Quinto has been an advocate for Gay Rights even before his coming out. He put out his own It Gets Better video in 2011, feeding the speculation about his sexuality, as did the fact that he’s played a number of gay roles on stage & film.

 “The fact that these things are such hot-button issues right now, socially & politically, I would much rather talk about that than talk about who I sleep with, I would love to be a voice in this maelstrom of chaos & obsessive celebrity infatuation that says, ‘Let’s talk about something that matters.’”

This winter I stayed with NBC’s limited series The Slap after the first episode because of Quinto’s strong work playing a particularly brutish heterosexual with real intensity & conviction. It was worth it, the series was provocative & well-acted. His own gayness seemed to have been wonderfully ignored in reviews of the show. He can play sensitive also, gathering strong reviews for the 2013-14 Broadway revival of Tennessee William’s The Glass Menagerie along with openly gay Cherry Jones.

Quinto inherited of the iconic Mr. Spock role in JJ AbramsStar Trek reboot (2010, 2012). He has had interesting, idiosyncratic roles on TV in Heroes, Girls, Hannibal, 2 seasons of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story, & in the film Margin Call (2011), which he also produced. Quinto was Executive Producer of the terrific Robert Redford starring All Is Lost (2013).

Later this year Quinto will appear in 2 films with gay themes: I Am Michael opposite my boo James Franco, which garnered terrific buzz at the Sundance Film Festival this past winter, & also portraying gay guy Glenn Greenwald in the Edward Snowden biopic Snowden, to be released in December.

My sources tell me that Quinto is committed to play George Gershwin in a Spielberg directed bio-pic. This seems like a very good idea to me.

He dated cutie-pie Jonathan Groff, star of the already missed HBO’s Looking. My sources say he just purchased a loft in NoHo neighborhood of NYC with his new BF, an artist/model. Together they make a whole lot of cute.

“I believe in the power of intention to change the landscape of our society & it is my intention to live an authentic life of compassion & integrity & action.”

I find Quinto to be quite delicious & super-talented.

Why Buzz Bissinger Was The PERFECT Writer To Cover Caitlyn Jenner (Spoiler: He Likes Wearing Women’s Clothes, Too)

Buzz in boots

Talk about breaking the internet! Caitlyn Jenner and Vanity Fair stopped the planet yesterday, huh? That cover! The name reveal! The behind the scenes video! The story! The fastest Twitter account to 1 million followers!

I’m a VF subscriber so I downloaded it ASAP to see the rest of the incredible pics by Annie Leibovitz. I compared the pose to Philippe Halsman‘s shot of Marilyn Monroe, not saying that Caitlyn resembles Marilyn, but rather the pose, attitude and “ultimate female” vibe she had was being transmitted by Annie’s instantly iconic cover. But all anyone else could talk about was the resemblance to Jessica Lange, Cindy Crawford or Janice Dickinson. Well, not bad for your first (public) day as a woman, CJ.

But as I was reading the incredible article by the Pulitzer Prize–winning author Buzz Bissinger, who was given exclusive access to Jenner, I came across a sentence that I had to go back and read again. Twice.;

“… I have been a cross-dresser with a big-time fetish for women’s leather and an open critic of the often arbitrary delineation between men’s and women’s clothing…”

OK. That peaked my interest, so me and Mr. Google went to work. While writing for The Philadelphia Inquirer Bissinger won the Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting for his story on corruption in the Philadelphia court system in 1987. He’s the former host of The Buzz Bissinger Show on CBS’s Talk Radio 1210 but he is perhaps best known for his book Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream, which was turned into a successful film and TV series. He’s been a Vanity Fair contributor for years and in 2013 wrote a piece for GQ, My Gucci Addiction, which caught my eye. He sold 2 million copies of Friday Night Lights, but he also must be independently wealthy.

As one of Gucci‘s biggest clients, he was flown Business Class for “five pampered and feted on an all-expenses-paid four-day trip to Milan and Florence”… follow along, this gets interesting…

Photo, Phillip Toledo to illustrate Bizzinger's GQ article, My Gucci addiction

Photo, Phillip Toledo to illustrate Bizzinger’s GQ article, My Gucci addiction

“There are other clients coveted and important to the retailer, who will also get the royal Gucci treatment. We five got lucky. We are Team Gucci, with representation from Argentina, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. We are for the moment Gucci Olympians who have spent Olympian sums and will presumably spend Olympian sums during the week.

I have an addiction. It isn’t drugs or gambling: I get to keep what I use after I use it. But there are similarities: the futile feeding of the bottomless beast and the unavoidable psychological implications, the immediate hit of the new that feels like an orgasm and the inevitable coming-down.

It started three years ago. I have never fully revealed it, and am only revealing it now in the hopes that my confession will incite a remission and perhaps help others of similar compulsion. If all I buy is Gucci, I will be fine…

I own eighty-one leather jackets, seventy-five pairs of boots, forty-one pairs of leather pants, thirty-two pairs of haute couture jeans, ten evening jackets, and 115 pairs of leather gloves. Those who conclude from this that I have a leather fetish, an extreme leather fetish, get a grand prize of zero…

Some of the clothing is men’s. Some is women’s. I make no distinction. Men’s fashion is catching up, with high-end retailers such as Gucci and Burberry and Versace finally honoring us. But women’s fashion is still infinitely more interesting and has an unfair monopoly on feeling sexy, and if the clothing you wear makes you feel the way you want to feel, liberated and alive, then fucking wear it. The opposite, to repress yourself as I did for the first fifty-five years of my life, is the worst price of all to pay. The United States is a country that has raged against enlightenment since 1776; puritanism, the guiding lantern, has cast its withering judgment on anything outside the narrow societal mainstream. Think it’s easy to be different in America? Try something as benign as wearing stretch leather leggings or knee-high boots if you are a man.”

See? The perfect guy to interview Jenner, right? Hats off to VF‘s longtime editor, Graydon Carter, who made the excellent call. You should read the whole story. But here’s a bit more of the juicy bits.

Was I homosexual because so much of what I wore is associated with gays? I did experiment. And while I don’t think it is my sexual being, I can tell you that gay men as a group are nicer, smarter, have a shitload more fun than straight whites. Was I veering toward becoming a dominant leather master in the S&M scene, the leather fetish an obvious influence in most of the clothing I purchased and in much of high fashion itself? I did experiment. Was I a closeted or maybe not so closeted transvestite? Tom Ford makeup is divine; the right foundation and cheek blush and eyeliner and lipstick can do wonders for the pallid complexion. Thigh-high boots add to any wardrobe, although walking on six-inch stilettos for hours is just a bitch and therefore confined to the privacy of my house, seen only by the UPS man, who at this point could not possibly be surprised by anything. But a dress or skirt just doesn’t look good on me, and I can’t ever do a thing with my hair. The look I was going for was more David Bowie androgynous.”

I did engage in a relationship with a dominatrix after the failure of my second marriage. I left the scene after two years. But I clearly missed it, the trappings of leather increasingly irresistible. I liked extreme feelings of restraint and taking pain. But I was also interested in everything.”

You can read it all here, but spoiler alert… here’s the ending;

“I was dressed in tight black faux-leather stretch pants, a black Gucci T-shirt, and a black leather Gucci jacket lined with shearling. I looked so hip that the owner of the club put us in the special VIP section overlooking the jammed dance floor.

I ordered a bottle of Cristal. Another member of the party ordered a magnum of Veuve Clicquot. Then I ordered a bottle of Patrón tequila. At first we all took little shots out of little plastic cups carefully rimmed with salt. Tequila? That’s no stinking way to drink tequila. I bit hard on a lime, licked down some salt, took a long pull straight from the bottle, and passed it along. We swigged like sailors, laughing, cheering, dancing, singing. I finished the bottle off. I beat the Argentinians, no small feat when it comes to partying. I did my country proud that night. I was proud. I felt alive. I was alive. I felt myself. I was myself.

All for $638,412.97.”

"92637,

On the red carpet at the CFDA Fashion Awards last night, Kim Kardashian told Access Hollywood that her brother Rob did not recognize his stepparent, Caitlyn Jenner, when he saw her on the cover of Vanity Fair.

“It’s so funny because, all the girls, we knew that Caitlyn was shooting this, but my brother had no idea,” she said. “So I sent it on a mass text to everyone and my brother was on it and he said, ‘Kim, why are you sending me this? Who is this woman? And why do I care?’ And I was like, ‘Rob! That’s Bruce! That’s Caitlyn!’ … And he was like, ‘Oh my God, she’s beautiful!’ And then he called her and they had a love fest and it was so cute. But the moment was so funny.” (via HuffPo)

Los Angeles is Ass-Backwards – Well, At Least Our Weather Is…

Los Angeles just had it’s first ‘reverse’ meteorological spring since 1921, nearly 100 years! And it’s only happened three times since weather has started being recorded. A ‘reverse’ meteorological spring simply means that March – the first month of spring – was the warmest and May – the last month of spring – was the coolest. Weird, huh?

From the LA Times:

Downtown Los Angeles had its first “reverse” meteorological spring in nearly 100 years due to drier and warmer-than-normal conditions.

The meteorological spring — defined as March, April and May — was unusual for downtown Los Angeles this year because March was the warmest month and May was the coolest, making it “reverse of the climatological norm,” according to the National Weather Service.

This rare weather event has not occurred since 1921, nearly a century ago.

Reverse meteorological springs have occurred three times since record-keeping began in 1877.

“It’s unusual to see we are so dry and so warm this time of year,” said Stuart Seto, a weather specialist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

The weather event, however, is not necessarily an indicator for the future, Seto said.

The months of March, April and May were warmer and drier than normal this year across southwestern California.

In downtown Los Angeles, the average monthly temperature for March was 68.2 degrees. In April, it was 65.8 degrees, and in May it was 64.1 degrees.

Average monthly temperatures from 1981 to 2010 for March, April and May in downtown Los Angeles were 60.6 degrees, 63.1 degrees and 65.8 degrees, respectively.

So far this year, only January had a lower monthly temperature, but by just 2.1 degrees. February’s average temperature mirrored May’s weather.

June 3, 1901– How astonishingly gay was that cast of Bewitched (1965-72): Paul Lynde, Dick Sargent, Agnes Moorehead, plus the star of the series Elizabeth Montgomery, a supporter of gay rights before it was cool?

American TV audiences of the 1960s might remember Maurice Evans as Samantha‘s father, Maurice (the character was originally named Victor when he was introduced), on Bewitched. I knew, of course, but most viewers were most likely unaware of Evans’ stellar Shakespearean resume. Evans insisted that his first name was pronounced the same as the name ‘Morris’. It was ironic then that his Bewitched character demanded that it be pronounced: ‘Maw-REESE’.

Evans first appeared on the stage in 1926 & joined the Old Vic Company in 1934, playing Hamlet, Richard II & Iago in his first season. His first appearance on Broadway was in Romeo & Juliet opposite Katharine Cornell in 1936, but he made his biggest impact in Shakespeare’s Richard II, a production whose unexpected success was the surprise of the 1937 Broadway season & allowed Evans to play Hamlet in 1938, the first time that the play was performed in its entirety in NYC. Also on Broadway where he was much loved: Falstaff in Henry IV, Part I (1939), Macbeth (1941), & Malvolio in Twelfth Night (1942) opposite Helen Hayes as Viola.

During WW 2, Evans was in charge of an Army Entertainment Section in the Central Pacific & he played his famous ‘G.I. version’ of Hamlet that cut the text of the play to make Prince Hamlet more appealing to the troops, an interpretation so popular that he took it to Broadway in 1945.

Evans specialized in the works of George Bernard Shaw, notably as John Tanner in Man & Superman & as King Magnus in The Apple Cart. He was also a successful Broadway producer of plays & musicals in which he did not appear.

Evans was a true pioneer, appearing in more American TV productions of Shakespeare plays than any other actor. Evans brought his Shakespeare productions to Broadway many times, playing Hamlet in 4 separate productions for a total of 883 performances, a Broadway record.

My favorite of Evans’ film roles is as Rosemary’s friend Hutch in Rosemary’s Baby (1968). Some of you kids might know him as orangutan Dr. Zaius in Planet Of The Apes (1968).

In my research I was not able to find out much about his lovers. Possibly, like other British actors of his generation, he preferred working class blokes & rough trade. Evans lived a great deal of his life in the USA, but in his last years, he returned to Britain. It does seem that one of Evan’s former lovers was his business manager David ‘Taffy’ Barlow,  who made Evans’ last days all the more comfortable by hiring young rent boys to strip down & lie in the bed with him. This quite shocked some of his deathbed visitors. Evans took his final bow in 1989, taken by that damn cancer. He was 87 years old.

Mike Huckabee Jokes About Being Transgender In High School “When It Came Time to Take Showers in PE”

huckabee

Yes, POTUS candidate Mike Huckabee joked earlier this year that he wished he could have pretended to be transgender in high school when addressing the National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville;

“For those who do not think that we are under threat, simply recognize that the fact that we are now in city after city watching ordinances say that your 7-year-old daughter, if she goes into the restroom cannot be offended and you can’t be offended if she’s greeted there by a 42-year-old man who feels more like a woman than he does a man.

“Now I wish that someone told me that when I was in high school that I could have felt like a woman when it came time to take showers in PE. I’m pretty sure that I would have found my feminine side and said,

‘Coach, I think I’d rather shower with the girls today.’ You’re laughing because it sounds so ridiculous, doesn’t it?”

And yet today we are the ones who are ridiculed and scorned because we point out the obvious… there is something inherently wrong about forcing little children to be a part of this social experiment. I’m not against anybody. I’d just like for somebody to bring their brain to work some day and not leave it on the bed stand when they show up to govern.”

Did I mention this guy is running for President –of the United States…? in 2015!? In contrast, our current President had this to say to Caitlyn Jenner after her Vanity Fair cover came out Monday;

“It takes courage to tell your story.”

Thank you, Mr. President, it does, doesn’t it? Watch, if you can stomach Huckabee’s sanctimonious BS…

Caitlyn Jenner and daughter Kim Kardashian said that watching Transparent as a family helped them with Jenner’s transition. Speaking yesterday at Tuesday’s Brass Ring Awards, show creator Jill Soloway said that Jenner has been invited to show’s set in L.A.

“I don’t know if she’d want to act, but we definitely want to incorporate the fact that she came out into this season. Just to have that base conversation somewhere in a scene, for sure.”

I feel like the change in the transgender community has happened because of the lived lives of trans people. There is a sea change happening right now, a revolution and we’re definitely in there a part of it. Sometimes I just trip on the fact that she’s the patriarch of the most famous family on the planet. There’s an international resonance with people recognizing that trans people are people too.”

The series Transparent is based on Soloway’s own father, who came out as transgender just four years ago. She told Variety about watching the “About Bruce” episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, where Jenner opened up to his family;

“The whole family transitions because everybody’s changing. If one person becomes more authentic, everyone comes to be more authentic. If you’re not being yourself, you can’t have an honest communication with someone who is being themselves. So everyone really grows from it. It calls everyone into their higher self.”

Soloway said Jenner’s Vanity Fair cover was beautiful but also called attention to Laverne Cox’s blog post about trans women.

“There’s the glamorous part of being trans, then there’s the reality, which is the trans movement is just starting. It’s still unsafe for trans people to use bathrooms. It’s just beginning and there are miles to go on this life’s journey so hopefully (Jenner will) get to be a part of the community and I know she will be because she will be an activist for change.”
